I'm starting to get super frustrated with this bell bloat. everything else uninstalls fine on my rooted G3 using titanium backup except the bell bloat.
When trying to uninstall using titanium backup i get "Failed to locate the apk file"
When trying to uninstall using es file explorer mounted as r/w i get "Uninstall not successful"
I can manually find the apk files in es file explorer in /Vendor/app-bell/Bell so why wouldn't titanium backup or es file explorer be able to find them? i'm guessing just deleteing these apk files manually wouldn't have the same effect as a proper uninstall?
I know that this maybe isn't the solution but it still is better than nothing: freeze them. Back when i was using galaxy s3 ive read about something similar and it was the only thing the guy could do.
Wysłane z mojego Lg G3 d855 3/32 gb
I found a solution like 10 seconds after making this post, after trying to remove them for 2 days...
Anyways, before making this post i tried moving the bell apks to the main app directory where all the other apks were installed but they still wouldn't uninstall, i made this post and then got back to thinking.
I noticed while i was browsing my main app directory everything had a .odex file belonging to it, but after my bell apks were transferred to this folder there still weren't no .odex files for my bell apks.
So the solution was to RESTART my g3 AFTER i moved these apks so it would build new .odex files for the dalvik, after the new .odex were present for my bell apks titanium backup uninstalled them no problems at all :victory:
UPDATE: so after removing these bell apps (icons were removed from apps drawer and everything) i restarted my phone just to see them re-installed and running again... so i took a peek in es file explorer and the apks were infact gone but the apps were reinstalled again and running and they also showed back up in titanium backup but would give me a "failed to locate the apk file" error when i tried to uninstall them, so i kept digging through my filesystem and found more bell stuff in the /data/app-system folder and after moving those to the /data/app folder then reboot to build dalvik i then proceeded to uninstall again, successfully this time. and then rebooted to make sure and NOW i no longer have any bell apps or running services, THEY ARE HISTORY :good:
So to sum everything up in simple steps:
Step 1. Move stubborn apks from directoy (mine was /system/vendor/app-bell/bell) over to /system/app
Step 2. Move more stubborn apks from directory (mine was /data/app-system) over to /data/app
Step 3. Reboot (very important)
Step 4. Proceed to uninstall the way you usually do (i used titanium backup)
Step 5. Reboot (very important)
Step 6. Proceed to uninstall them AGAIN for the second time, the way you usually do (i used titanium backup)
So for anyone having issues with bloat that they can't remove, please try this!! Hope this helps

Before we try and figure this out i just wanna make sure you are already rooted right?
In es explorer you should do the following 3 things before looking for the bell apks.
1. In es file explorer, Enable Root Explorer.
2. In es file explorer, Enable Show hidden files.
3. In es file explorer, You need to mount the system file as R/W.
Make sure you have done these 3 things before and try again, if you need help doing any of this just let me know, i'll help you out.

awesome. thanks man. I really appreciate it.
There is a ton of bloatware on my G3. Is there a list of which are safe to remove using titanium? I could only find tentative lists.
One last question. Say I do delete something important could i just do a factory reset to get everything back? (if for any reason i didnt want to use the restore function on titanium.)
Thanks again.

Once you remove bloat it is completely removed forever, the only way to put it back on is using a backup of that app or doing a stock firmware flash, a factory reset WILL NOT restore any bloat you removed, but it's very easy to use titanium backup to backup and restore an app you remove.
If you have certain apps removed and do a factory reset while those said apps are missing it can make your phone act funny and break certain functions, I can make sure you 100% avoid this if you wait for me to update this list.
Here's a partial list of apps i removed (I removed alot more and will update this list shortly).
I will update the functions and purposes of most of these apps within the next couple hours, i would HIGHLY recommend to wait until i update this so you know exactly what you want to remove and what you want to keep. and i can explain a few very important things about removing certain apps within my list

No problem. Take your time. I check back on the thread every few days. Thanks for the update.

Yes, Even Titanium can't find that app. It's just not showing up.
SOLVED
When you see a pop up : This applications want to acces your google account, press DENY. Ofcours you also have the option to APROVE.
This is a workaround to fix the battery drain caused by the recent Updates Google is installing on our devices.
The main culpid for causing this battery drain are the new Play Services, which are getting autoupdated everytime you have a internet connection, but also the changes made to the PlayStore, Maps and Youtube.
To get rid of all those wakelocks caused by these apps and so almost all the time keeping your phone active, I came to a workaround which still allows you to use the Playstore and apps like Maps and Youtube without causing such a huge battery drain, even if Network Location is still keept enabled.
So what you need:
1) A modified Playstore which doesn´t update itself and the Google Play services. http://uploaded.net/file/n0qykeja
2) The older versions of Play Services, Maps and Youtube. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p7fsu00r3zhat0l/google-fix.zip
3) App Backup & Restore and Root Explorer.
First disable all internet connections like WiFi and Mobile Data.
Then go to Settings> Apps and search for Google Play Services, Maps and Youtube. There delete the cache and data for those apps and uninstall them. For the Playstore just delete cache and data.
Open Root Explorer and install the Installer for the modified Playstore you downloaded from the first link.
After you installed it, launch the installer and select the very first Playstore offered on top. This will patch your Core.jar and replace your Playstore with the modified version.
After you got your Playstore replaced you can uninstall this installer again or keep it installed if you whish to revert back one day.
In CM9 open Root Explorer and go to System/Apps and delete there the Market-Updater.apk. (In CM10 it´s not present)
Now copy the Apps from the secound link into your App Backup & Restore backup folder.
Open App Backup & Restore and restore the older Google Play Services, Maps and Youtube.
Reboot your device and accept all the services.
Enable your internet connection, Launch Playstore and disable there all the notifications and autoupdates.
Just in case recheck if the Play Services didn´t got updated again. In this case go again to settings>apps and repeat the step above to delete Play Services. Finally restore them once more with App Backup&Restore.
Now you can use Maps and Youtube like before but without all the wakelocks keeping your phone active.
Last but not least greenify apps like maps, youtube or for example facebook.
This is a temporaly fix as long Google doesn´t fix this battery drain issue again.
Having just got my new Gemini - I'm interested to know how to remove a lot of the Google junk that I don't need - i.e. gBoard, Duo etc. If try to uninstall them - it seems to only remove the update - not the actual apps. I certainly really don't nee update to the Korean keyboard etc (I'm UK only) we seem to be forced on me via gBoard?
How do you disable these apps and stop them nagging for updates?
Thx
I rooted my phone by following the guide on Planet website about flashing rooted Android: support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Flashing_Guide (I am a new user - no links, sorry) installing TWRP and from it Magisk. I tried several apps but finally Titanium Backup allowed me to uninstall system apps (be careful though, some really are needed).

Go into Settings>Apps
You will see a list of apps (both the ones you know about and some hidden, behind-the-scenes programs). Find one you want to disable, tap on it, and you should see a button that says Disable.
Warning: Don't disable software Android needs to operate. On my device it seems it won't let me disable core items, but I have seen other devices offer to let me disable things that might badly break things were I to click.

I have a Sprint variant (yuck). I don't particularly want to root it since I will lose some functions I use. But does anyone have a list of the commands to remove the Sprint bloat?
I also would love to get rid of Samsung native apps and replace with Google, like sms and all that. Is this possible without running into issues? I know deleting certain apps can make the phone act all wonky. Thanks in advance.
You can disable all the bloatware you do not want/like, via ADB commands, or, using ccswe and package disabler pro, which is way easier

I tried the last two with no luck, says apps like Amazon are system apps and can't uninstall. I'll have to set up ADB later and try that.
system apps can only be disabled (unless rooted) . Adb or otherwise.

With the onboard storage this device has, just disabling the unwanted stuff is good enough, furthermore, uninstalling certain things may lead to some troubles, it is safer to disable rather than uninstalling, package disabler pro can handle some system apps that ccswe can not, I use both apps
I Pixelized my Note 10+. First, use ADB to disable many Samsung and bloat apps (some Samsung apps are actually more functional than the Google versions so choose carefully). You can even find a patched version of the Google Phone app to replace the Samsung one, then enable it in default apps. Then you can install HEX Installer and Android 10 Q theme plugin from the Play Store.
The phone is much faster and cleaner looking and I don't mind the UI anymore.
I was just curious for the reason for that.
I am just trying to find the root apps that ( all the smart people agree ) are the best.
I had a big problem with trying to stop background apps from stealing cycles / battery.
Shame about Greenify. Shame about TiB. I am only using Titanium Backup Pro for its freeze and unfreeze.
SD Maid Pro is a 'big' winner ! Nice cleaner but then also a ( system ) app freezer and app remover. So I can say bye, bye to an old friend . . . TiB.
Wow. Help ! Anyone have a safe and sane list of 'system apps' that can be frozen / removed ? Looks like 50+ system apps and a lot have cryptic names.
The easiest way to "freeze" a lot of "system apps" is to install an alternative and more minimalistic system. I recommend the security minded "GrapheneOS".
Generally speaking, and as an expert, I will tell you very simply that you DO NOT WANT ANY "root apps" unless there is absolutely no way to avoid them, and in this case, they absolutely MUST NOT be closed source programs installed from play store. EVERY ONE of those programs you have listed is a non-starter. Throw them all out.
Now of course, BACKUPS are a highly useful and reasonable use for root. You have your mind stuck on the untrustworthy closed source dinosaur "titanium backup". Delete that and install in its place "oandbackupX", which is open source, well maintained, and available from F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.machiav3lli.backup/ -- and yes, it has the ability to disable packages as well. When you select a package, there is a button with a crossed-circle icon. That does the job you're looking for.
Some custom system images, grapheneos included, incorporate "seedvault" for making backups. Its not as powerful as oandbackupX, since it is forced to respect application manifest flags that indicate if an application is allowed to be backed up or not. It does, however, allow you to make your backup to a custom location (i.e., a Nextcloud server), but it doesn't give you the option to create a NON-encrypted backup (even if you back it up to a fully trusted location), which makes it more challenging to manipulate the backup if needed.
Personally, I use a combination of seedvault and oandbackupX. Seedvault for the regular automated backups, and oandbackupX for a few other packages that seedvault won't. Note that Seedvault does at least tell you the list of packages that it refuses to touch, so you know what to hit with oandbackupX.
