So I recently updated my Tab 3 7.0 with the latest rom off the samsung site, thinking I could test it out and the go back to my custom rom that I was using. It seems as if the latest update has locked the bootloader and I am now unable to root/install any custom rom.
If there is a way around this, could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Have you tried .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681110
It may at least get you root back

This is new. I been saying to be careful with new KK Stock Roms as they are starting to show new bootloaders. It will happen soon!. But not that soon.
What make you think you have a "locked bootloader"?
You only say "the latest update has locked the bootloader and I am now unable to root/install any custom rom."
Lets forget for now about root.
What message you received from ODIN when you try to install your OLD 4.2.2 Stock Rom?
Or what, Odins install but you get a error message or boot loop?
Are you sure you have a good 4.2.2 Stock Rom that matches your exact old model?
Please enlighten us.

Before I start I will say iI did check out the search function for more than one hour and felt pretty lost amidst the technical discussion going on. I'm still reading about Android and learning so your help will be greatly appreciated.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747M) soon after its launch in Canada. It came with Jellybean and after a while I updated it to Kitkat using the "check for updates" area in the phones settings.
My question is basically is out possible to root the device after I updated it. Or is it possible to go back to Jellybean and then root it from Jellybean?
I have tried to flash the stock Jellybean ROM onto it and it just doesn't work at all. Odin loads stuff for 5 seconds and it fails.
Other than going back to Jellybean is there any way to Root my phone if it's on Kitkat now? I'm not concerned about warranty etc due to age of the device and it would be gone already anyways.
Thank You!

Once you are on KK, you cannot downgrade the bootloader so don't bother trying to downgrade to JB using firmware from sammobile.com. Do this may brick your phone.
Does your phone have a custom recovery? If not, you could try flashing Philz for the d2lte and install supersu from recovery.

No it does not. Thanks I'll try that. How do you install super so froom recovery and would i get root access?
Thanks so much!!!
In order to flash supersu, you will need to install a custom recovery onto your phone. Doing this will automatically void your warranty.
I'm currently running CM12.1 on my phone. I love it, but I want to return to stock and give my phone an "out of the box" feel, and return it to the way Samsung made it to be.
I follow the typical instructions found here, but I always get an error (no screenshot available. Sorry!). I'm running Windows 10 and I have the proper drivers installed. Is there something I'm missing?
If the phone is running a 4.3 or newer bootloader, you cannot flash back to stock using a stock rom from sammobile.
Before flashing anything, I recommend verifying the bootloader and modem before flashing anything else. An improper bootloader and modem combination could brick the phone.

Alright. Thanks. A bit disappointed, but thanks anyway. Besides, CyanogenMod isn't bad.
I was just running CM 12.1 / 13 and I was able to revert back to Roger's Stock ROM Android 4.4.2
Try Odin3 and installing the stock rom. But you should always verify the bootloader.

If the OP is running the i747, it is the the AT&T version of the s3. AT&T never released a full firmware release for use in Odin after 4.1.1. AT&T only released OTA updates that upgraded the phones from 4.1.1 to 4.4.2. In order to flash a stock AT&T 4.4.2 ROM, it needs to be done from TWRP.

hello all, i have a fresh out of the box T999, firmware ver 4.1.2, kernel ver ends w/ MD5. i need to upgrade the firmware on this phone to 4.4.x so i can run the Amazon Flex Delivery app on it, and am kinda confused as to what the proper route is to get there from stock 4.1.2... im reading about 4.3 adding Knox, tripping 'Modified' switches, etc and really just need to know what the upgrade path is and proper order. im familiar w/ using Odin and custom recoveries, but also read that just installing a custom recovery on this phone will trigger it into modified mode in a permanent way. dont care about being rooted, i dont even think the Amazon Delivery app will run on a rooted device.
any advice or info would be greatly appreciated, thx in advance all..
The last official update to the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 was Android 4.3. If you want 4.4 or higher, then you're going to have to flash a custom ROM. If you aren't comfortable flashing ROMs, then you'll need a newer phone.
I suggest using Odin to flash the latest ROM to your phone, install the app, and see if it runs.
I'm trying to update my Note 2 to at least Lollipop, but haven't found a custom ROM that supports t03g phones. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Tried to update to Cyanide 6.0.1 l0lte, but it bricked me and i'm in the process of putting the stock rom back on my phone.
If the bootloader is locked, you can't use twrp or cwm to flash a custom rom.
Hello everyone,
I have a TMO Note 3 running Lollipop at this moment, the phone is rooted, but I tried flashing a new ROM and it soft bricked on me. ODIN stopped at the very beginning of flashing and just bricked the phone. Also TWRP was not working either and still not, but I was able to bring the phone back from the semi-dead state it was in. I want to flash it again but now I don't know if I did something wrong (most likely) and I just need some feedback on what to do. I wanna go to a stock rom so i can upgrade to the actual Lollipop Rom from T-mobile but I was also wondering if I can just flash a stock 5.0 rom that runs better than the one I have. Additionally, I just cant get TWRP to stick at all; every time I try to flash it and try to go into recovery, phone goes into boot loop. Here are some screenshots of the current "about phone" section. I am sorry if i am not asking the right questions but I gotta start somewhere. Thanks everyone in advanced!

If you can get into download mode, flash the latest stock rom from Sammobile.com.
