This may not work if the BIN file has already been used.

You'll have to go through the process again on HTCDev to re-unlock your bootloader. You will get a new unlock code BIN file to use.

Not sure, but that's exactly what happened to me. I re-locked the bootloader before installing a custom recovery, and my old unlock_code.bin file would not unlock the bootloader again. I'd get some error in the terminal window when I tried to do that. Then I decided to try the whole unlock procedure again on HTCDev, and I got a new unlock_code.bin file, which successfully unlocked the bootloader.
thanks for replying
i installed sunshine, and made my bootloader unlocked and changed S-ON to S-off
this is magic

Thanks, I give those threads a try and report back
I'm in the same boat and it seems that the HTCDev Bootloader unlock tool won't do anything, it keeps saying it needs to update the software to .2 but it won't and stays at .15
Any ideas?

Skip the ruu part on the htcdev site as you probably already have an unlockable bootloader.

Even if in fastboot it says: LOCKED (00W) and has a HBOOT of 1.02.0000?

You need to go to the htcdev site and follow all the steps skipping the ruu (hboot update). After you skip the ruu part it will have you use fastboot to get a code from the phone and paste it to the site and submit. Htcdev will then send you and unlock_token.bin file you fastboot flash to unlock the bootloader. Then you can fastboot flash recovery.
Has the phone previously been unlocked? If so do you still have the unlock_token.bin file?
Thanks cmlusco! Don't mind my post count lol...so forgot about scrolling down after the RUU thing...long day simple mistakes

No problem, Tampered flag means that you tried to unlock the bootloader.
After you unlock bootloader you need to flash a custom recovery to be able to root.
Are you following a guide?

Sunshine S-Off will be your best bet. It's $25 though.

So did you try to contact Sunshine team as per the instructions?
yes no help from them..
You'll need to unlock your bootloader at HTCDev if Sunshine won't work.... And obviously that's not a good idea if you're sending it in.
Not sure what you can do... You're a bit stuck.
Flash an untouched firmware for your device version with external_sd method. It'll install the stock recovery.

Sunshine S-OFF unlocks the bootloader too I believe. It's $25. Not aware of any other method, just Sunshine and HTCDev that I know of.
I thought so, found nothing when searching.
thanks

Do you even need to unlock the bootloader with S-off? What happens if you just try to install custom recovery?

I honestly never used towelroot so I can't answer that, but it almost seems like it should from this thread.
[Android][Unlock/S-OFF] SunShine for modern Motorola & HTC devices
How to use with TowelRoot:
If you are having difficulties with TowelRoot, or SunShine saying you are not rooted, you need to use a specific version of TowelRoot. The version on his main page does not currently work with HTC.
First go to http://towelroot.com, and then from that page go to https://towelroot.com/tr3.apk (hot link blocking, cant go straight to the apk).
Then install TowelRoot, and click "Welcome" three times. This will open the hidden "modstrings" option. Change the modstrings to "1337 0 1 0 4 1" and click "Make it Ra1n". Then run SunShine. After SunShine reboots your phone, you will have to repeat the process before running SunShine the second time.

If your device is S-Off as you mentioned, you don't really need to unlock bootloader to flash recovery. Just use the RUU mode to flash a firmware.zip with your CID/MID matching in android-info.txt and put the custom recovery in that firmware.zip.
In fact you only need the android-info.txt and the recovery.img only, no need other things. Main point is flash it in RUU mode, then you can boot to custom recoveryto install root/SuperSu
or use the 0P6BIMG.zip method
Check this for reference on how-to - http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...-Recovery-(UNOFFICIAL)-v2-8-0-0-(2-8-0-5-Test)
then unlock as shown in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571

yes, it is. I did it to my new M8 a couple of weeks ago. I'll post what i did shortly.
Edit: Here is what worked for me. I was S-On, and did this to get unlocked and s-o ff without using HTC Dev
1) reboot device into System (might be unnecessary, but i always like to start with a reboot)
2) Install Sunshine and run it. It will give you temproot before it starts the process to s-off your device. You can cancel the Sunshine process after it performs the initial check on your device. After you do this, do not reboot until after you do step three or you will lose temproot.
3) Once you have temproot, follow these directions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
I hope that helps. Consider donating to the Sunshine guys since you're using their temproot functionality.

That is what I suspected (that you don't need to unlock the bootloader once s-off).
Why won't the usual "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to install custom recovery work in this case?

Never go deep on why ... but fastboot command like fastboot boot and fastboot flash need an unlock bootloader to run command, so I guess fastboot oem rebootRUU will temporarily unlock the bootloader to execute the command

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I was s-off, rooted and decided i wanted to return to stock.
Anyway,i did the following
downloaded correct nandroid ruu and flashed it all ok
I then decided to flash the recovery back to stock so can install the ota updates, i had the htc one toolkit at hand so did it through there and it all said success
Opened fastboot and relocked bootloader all fine.
I rebooted and download the first ota update however it seems the recovery did not flash and am still ion twrp, so could not install ota update.
I tried to reflash it, of course it wont because bootloader now locked
when i try to unlock using fastboot oem relock i get the [ERR] command error
I cant unlock using htcdev as i still have the custom recovery.
Does anyone have any idea on how else i can get back to custom recovery, while the bootloader is still locked, or is there any other way to unlock the bootloader?
Many thanks
steve
Why don't you install the latest RUU using the sdcard method?
Btw I believe you can unlock using htcdev. Just flash the unlock token you got the first time.

That doesn't work either ! ......you have to "flash" the unlock token again, the one he got the first time.....he can use it again !
And if you use a RUU on a S-OFF device you do NOT have to relock the bootloader.
And the RUU he used wasn't an original RUU......an original RUU always flashes the stock recovery !

Oh right, indeed, that is true. It's been a while for me since I last done that. Probably back when I had my HTC Legend.
