This thread is for the C6506 users since C6506 is usually the last to get the updates lol.... If you have gotten the 4.4.4 update post where your located and when you received it.
Nothing out for me yet; OTA or PC companion
Location: Canada
Service: Rogers
Also, do I need .230 OS to get .283 update or will it show the latest regardless ? Just wondering since I choose to stick with 4.3 due to all the problem
4.4.4
I'm in Telcel from Mexico and they don't have even the 4.4.2 update :v only 4.3, really bad service.
can i flash the FTF file from a c6503?? i have the c6506 (lte north america)
Wait for C6506 version... not worth it to rush

I know, I'm also on Telcel Mexico and I left their ftf since 4.4.2
Of course you can flash c6503 FTF, just be sure you exclude TA and Baseband. The system is the same, just the eLabel would show your XZL as a c6503 instead of c6506

thanks that's what i'll do...
with all the bloatware of this company(telcel) LOL is boring
Nothing on generic 6506
I am also on Rogers in Canada, but when I got my ZL back rom a Sony Repair, it was the generic software, not the Rogers bloated version.
Anyway, I as still showing 10.5.A.0.230 as the latest version.
I would like to keep th C6506 / generic version but just might jupm to 6503 to update sooner.
Even with wake lock killer I havs some bad battery days and I am getting sick and tired of that.
OP thank for starting this thread.

Just curious as I also have a C6506, but what would happen if I flashed to a C6503 version of the 10.5.1.A.0.283 firmware?

I'm using C6503 10.5.1.A.0.283 on my C6506, and I have no problems at all, nor before when I was using 4.4 and 4.4.2 C6503 FTF while C6506 got its release.
BTW, up until now, battery life seems the same, it's just that Google Play Services is not draining battery anymore, don't know what is, Top in battery usage is "Android OS".

Hmm..so if I flash 10.5.1.A.0.283 to my C6506, do I lose all my apps/settings/etc, and I'll have to reinstall everything?
lol..sounds like they just moved battery usage from play services to android OS..are there still the overheating problems tho?
If you come from anything else but C6503 Stock, you will have to do factory reset, if you have Stock factory reset is recommended as always, but not necessary.
Until now, I've had no overheating problems, but it has been only about 12hrs, and nearly half of them connected to a power outlet. Still testing.

ohhh..yeah I'm probably on C6506 stock so I'd have to factory reset..meh. I'll just wait for the official C6506 firmware to be released.

Could you do quick and dirty instructions on how you went about flashing it? Or is it the same as normal? Also how do you acquire & flash kernels so I can root 4.4.4.

To flash KitKat 4.4.4 you will need the following:
- C6503 10.5.1.A.0.283 ROM [STOCK ROM][FTF] Xperia ZL (C6503) Android 4.4.4_10.5.1.A.0.283_Customized_RU
- Flashtool
1. Download your choice of .283 ROM, in my case I got "C6503_10.5.1.A.0.283_Commercial_and_Journalists"
2. Make a backup of your data, since you will need to do a factory reset unless you are comming from another Stock C6503 ROM, besides it is recommended to do a Factory Reset after flashing Kitkat 4.4.4
3. Flash your 10.5.1.A.0.283 ROM using Flashtool making sure you exclude TA and BASEBAND
4. Start phone, setup and restore all your data. You may use TitaniumBackup for the backup, in this case you just need to setup your phone before attempting root.
To get root you will also need:
- Working KitKat 4.4.4
- C650X 10.5.A.0.230 Kernel Stripped Downloads for [STOCK][C650X][4.4] Update to 10.5.A.0.230 [Root & XZDR]
- Rooting method. Mine was TowelRoot
1. First, download and install TowelRoot to your phone. WiFi and Mobile Data may not work while rooting.
2. Shutdown phone and flash Stripped Kernel FTF, again excluding TA and BASEBAND
3. Restart phone, open TowelRoot and "click" on the lambda, you will get a message saying Root was successful and may not require restart.
4. Once rooted, shutdown phone and flash your .283 ROM, this time excluding TA, BASEBAND, SYSTEM, and making sure no wipe options are checked (APPSLOG, CACHE, DATA).
5. Install SuperSu and update Binaries
6. PROFIT
Thank you for the detailed instructions, I'm charging my phone up now and will report back after I've flashed.
edit: thank you again, your instructions worked perfectly and now my C6506 is running 4.4.4. I don't think I have LTE anymore, but that's the least of my concerns right now I just want a phone that doesn't die within 2 hours.

I'm not positive if i lost LTE I haven't had a chance to do a complete test, but it seems I have because whenever i disconnect from WIFI it connects to HSPA+ instead of LTE. Other than that everything seems to be great, got 3 hours SOT last night and still had 40% battery life.

LTE preferred has already been selected, it does appear however that I indeed lost LTE, as my phone is only picking up HSDPA+. That's fine though, I'd rather that over bad battery life.
Update is out now.

Hey guys I've recently updated my Xperia Arc LT15a with flastool to 4.0.4 /4.1.B.0.587. The thing is that when ever I did this I won't get any signal of any carriers of my country I'm currently in el Salvador. So I wanted to ask is there anything wrong that I did or am I the only one with this issue, because before the signal work fine.

You have LT15a phone, most likely you installed LT15i firmware. These 2 phones use different 3G frequencies, so firmware/baseband are kind of different. You need to find LT15a firmware in a FTF file or use Update Service to install correct firmware.

im aware of that, and i have install LT15a firmware in FTF file using Flashtool already on the phone and, i just connect the phone to Update Service and it said that i already install the updated firmware.
I've gotten some PMs on how to downgrade from 4.2.2 (10.3.A.0.423) back to 4.1.2 (10.1.A.1.434 or 10.1.1.A.1.253), and thought I'd go ahead and post the steps for all to use. This works for both locked and unlocked bootloaders, and obviously keeps their state intact. The basic idea here is to use Flashtool to simply flash the stock FTF from Sony, no more, no less. It is the same process as restoring your phone via PCC/SUS/Mac Bridge, with the exception here that Sony isn't forcing the latest firmware on you and thus allowing you to select your choice of firmware version.
Rooting Notice
I know for certain you can root the 434 (4.1.2) firmware via Bin4ry's method, and I know for certain you can root the 423 (4.2.2) via DoomLoRD's method. However, I'm fairly sure you cannot root the 253 (4.1.2) firmware via any available method, unless you update from 434 to 253 via an OTA update...which is no longer available. So, if you need root, flash 434, if not, then 253.
The Standard Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for any damage that may happen to your phone by following these instructions. Do so at your own risk.
What You Need:
Flashtool (Official Site)
Correct FTF that matches your device's customization (e.g. Generic US 1270-7584)
To check your customization, dial *#8#7378423#*#*, Service Info > Software Info
You can search this forum for FTFs posted by fellow users, or get them from here. You can downgrade to 434 or 253, it's your choice. Just keep in mind that if you go back to 434, you won't be able to update to 253 via the OTA, you'll have to use this method again.
Before You Begin:
BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA!! When flashing the stock FTF, your phone is wiped 100% clean, as if right out of the factory. Even if you have a custom recovery installed, that will be gone as well.
Flashing Instructions:
Switch off your phone and make sure the USB cable is unplugged from the computer (leave it attached to the phone)
Make sure all Sony software (PCC, SUS, Mac Bridge) are closed and not running on the computer
With the phone completely off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and plug the USB cable to the computer.
You're not going to see anything happen on the phone, but this will put it in Flashmode
Fire up Flashtool
It should say phone is connected in Flashmode
Click on the lighting bolt icon (Flash Device)
When prompted for Flashmode or Fastboot Mode, select Flashmode (default selection)
Navigate on your computer to where the FTF is stored
Flashtool will then display the details of the FTF
When flashing a stock FTF, make sure you keep Wipe Data/Cache/Appslog checked, and all Excludes unchecked.
Click Flash
At this point, the Flashtool will start the flashing process and should take anywhere between 10-15 minutes
If the Flashtool errors out or crashes, 9 out of 10 times you forgot the Sony software running in the background. Close, and try again.
After it's done, simply unplug the USB cable and start the phone.
The phone might prompt you for an NFC update, followed by a Power Off or Use Phone selection. I usually select Power Off and start the phone back up again to make sure the update completed all the way, but that's just my paranoia
Once if I use flashtool to downgrade firmware, Would I still be able to get updates officially from SONY via SUS or OTA or PCC, or I will have to always use flashtool to update?

Thanks so much for taking the time to create this. I just got the ZL yesterday and it was buttery smooth, I then got the 4.2 update notice an hour later, updated and it is not smooth anymore.
I see that you mention two 4.1 versions - .434 and .243 . Which one do you recommend? Honestly I wish I had taken note which one exactly came with my phone out of the box, I want to go back to that but obviously can't verify what it came with since I am on 4.2
THANKS!!

Ps I forgot to add I do not need to root, I was just curious solely on the two different versions of downgrade and what was best choice if there were different.
Congrats on your new ZL.
Yeah, sadly Sony dropped the ball with the latest update, but some of the blame also falls onto the Android 4.2.2 itself...it wasn't the smoothest. I'm actually testing out the latest 4.3 on my Nexus 7...seems like an improvement.
Anyway, the .434 firmware is Android 4.1.2, where as .423 firmware is Android 4.2.2. So with that said, you need to flashback to 4.1.2 with the .434 firmware, which is what your phone came with, and thus will take your phone back to being buttery smooth
As for rooting, follow Bin4ry's method and you'll be good to go.

Hi guys,
I am new to android coming from apple. I am looking to update my xperia zl 4.1.2 build number 10.1.a.1.395 to android 4.2. I have never flashed the phone before but i do however rooted my phone using i believe doomlords mod. I have also an issue with the in ear peice when calling i notice the volume is extremely low when i am making calls. If someone would let me know the steps to fix this issue and the update that would be great. As far as i know i need flashtools and the 4.2 android update? Just want to know which update i would need. My phone is originally a rogers xperia zl but its been unlocked to use any carrier. The bootloader is also locked on this phone.
Thank!
Update your phone over the air. (settings, about phone, software update) and use doomlords tool to root again.
Sent from my C6506 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Trying to get the update from OTA wont work in your case since you have never flashed the phone and are probably on the stock Roger's firmware meaning you wont see an update available until Rogers pushes their 4.2.2 update with their own bloatware which may take a while.
Just flash the latest FTF firmware C6506_10.3.A.0.423_Unbranded.ftf (stock Sony firmware) found on here on XDA and flash it with Flashtool. Then use doomlord's method to gain root. Very easy stuff... Dont wait for Rogers to update unless you want to wait forever... Carriers are usually slow to update their stuff.
I just bought a couple of days ago mi new Xperia ZL, i think the phone is great, but today when i tried to get mi phone rooted, i realized the bootloader is locked.
Im kind of new at this, but i really dont know why mi phone is on that status, so does that mean that i never be able to fully root mi phone?
I tried to do it with a dooloard applicatiĆ³n, but it seems that the android compilation version is not compatible with the doomlord software.
Could someone help me please! i want to erase all the garbage from my service provider.
I have a Xperia Zl C6502, 10.1.1.A.1.253
By the way, Im From Guatemala, sorry for the crappy english.

A locked bootloader doesn't stop you from rooting. Mine is locked (and is unlockable) and I have root.

In order to root the 253 build, you need to follow Nut's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2299092
Read everything carefully before doing it, I think the build 253 was the most complicated build to root not because it's hard but it has more steps than any other builds.
Why don't you upgrade to the latest 4.2.2 build 244. It's very stable and good. Plus, it's easy to root.... :good:
Even if your BL is locked, every build can be rooted.

You are not getting the OTA because your carrier is not pushing it. If your phone is branded to xyz carrier than you need to wait for them to push their new bloaded firmware via OTA.
If you flash the Sony generic firmware, you will be getting OTA's as soon as Sony pushes them out.
If you want to flash your phone to the latest Sony generic, you will need:
Flashtool : http://androxyde.github.io/
PC Companion
C6502 FTF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389305
Installed drivers for your Xperia ZL (can be found inside Drivers folder when flashtool is installed)
This thread has screenshots on how to use flashtool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Don't forget to Turn on "Unknown sources" and "USB Debugging" before flashing the phone.
Once you have flashed this firmware, you will root by
1 - Flashing the FW 423 Kernel ONLY
2 - Reboot and root with DoomLord's latest exploit (v.18)
3 - Flash back the FW 244 Kernel ONLY
4- Reboot and you are done!
Happy flashing!! :highfive:

Don't forget to Turn on "Unknown sources" and "USB Debugging" before flashing the phone.
Once you have flashed this firmware, you will root by
1 - Flashing the FW 423 Kernel ONLY
2 - Reboot and root with DoomLord's latest exploit (v.18)
3 - Flash back the FW 244 Kernel ONLY
4- Reboot and you are done!
Happy flashing!! :highfive:

Unlocked bootloader allows you to flash custom kernels so that you can flash cooked roms which may require a custom kernel. If you like the Sony stock rom and just want to root on it then dont bother unlocking it.
Also, rooting doesnt void your warranty, unlocking your bootloader does.
Glad everything worked out for you!
I was on 4.2.2 rooted 6506 and tried to do the rogers 4.3 upgrade through ota and it downloaded the file rebooted and began to install and then failed. Any others having this problem. If so did u resolve and how? I want to use the ota method because supposedly it preserves root.

Are you kidding me, are you saying that Rogers released through OTA their modified C6506 4.3 firmware before Sony even pushed out the generic 4.3 via PC Companion for the C6506 model.
THIS REALLY BLOWS MY MIND....having a little trouble believing it

Wow, impressive. Carriers are usually slow to release updates. I'm still going to wait for the generic 4.3 update from Sony. I really don't like the bloat-ware Rogers installs. I believe root will be able to be obtained with Nut's DualRecovery method just like the tablet Xperia Z.
Your way to preserve root is a 50/50 chance. It worked on previous firmwares but since your system files have been modified, it may be the reason why the update gets interrupted.
To root the tablet Xperia Z from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 was via OTA just like you are trying to do (survival mode) but I don't think it works anymore on 4.3
Good Luck!!
Survival mode in SuperSU worked for me when going to 4.4.2 from 4.4 stock on my N7.
Not sure about 4.3.
I am now on a rooted generic US rom and on a Rogers ZL and I'm still waiting. Hard to believe Rogers released anything at all...
Lets see pics!

Here is the screenshot, tried again no luck stops install after download. I download the file, the phone reboots, I see the green android with a file status bar for about 20 second and it reboots and tells me upgrade was unsuccessful

There is an option if you unlock superSU pro (you can unlock the app from the playstore for free). You tick it and system tries to preserve root after an OTA update. Didn't worked for everyone but oh well, Nexus 7 is so easy to root anyway! ?

Sony Canada just posted up on FB that they have 4.3 on PCC.
I tried it with my ZL c6505 but no update popped up.
I just checked on PCC and it is still telling me I have the latest firmware. I'll keep checking throughout the day.
Fingers crossed!
I got my 4.3 last night and it came through the air without PCC
Wow shocking for rogers. They usually suck I'm in rogers and I hate them but good to see updates.coming.fast for once

Has anyone been able to update a Rogers ZL to 4.3 and either keep root, or get root
(with the NOT-unlockable boot loader).
I have been seeing the OTA alert for a week now, but I don't want ot risk loosing Titanium and Xpose Framwork.
Thanks,
C
How can I get back on Stock Rogers 4.2.2? where could I find this FTF I want to get off this generic 4.3 and update it the proper route
