[Q] Can I downgrade by flashing a custom rom? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Im currently using stock rom with root access on my note 2 n7100, android v 4.4.2, I once flashed a custom rom with android version 4.1.2 and I encountered a bunch of glitches, the biggest one was not being able to call ( no service), if I flash a custom rom with android version 4.2.2 , will everything work smoothly?

Flashing a custom rom is no up- or downgrade at all. As on 4.4.2 forget about downgrade forever.
You may flash most 4.3 and all 4.4.+ custom roms for N7100 and you will be fine without problems.

So 4.2.2 is a nono :C?

Maybe it will work, but make a backup in case.
BTW: I don't remember any 4.2.2 custom rom.

The latest official stock ROM in my country is JB 4.1.2 ..... Am i missing something ??
If you don't use custom rom. No matter just put the latest firmware.
If you enjoy custom you must put a custom kernel and another recovery like pgilz or twrp
Which 4.1.2 build are you running? Anything after dll7 I think should have the fix implemented.

If I install a stock based 4.1.2 rom such as alliance and do not install any special kernel, will I be safe?

It's the build number/version. Can't exactly remember how to check it on Samsung roms, I think you dial something like *#1234# in the dialer.

Try rooting and installing custom rom. It might solve your issue also as it resolve my random restart problems before.
Btw I used android revolution hd v17.

Can someone post if it works good cuz I am looking for a new rom right now which is stable and smooth..
Thanks!
If you try it you know and if it doesn't work you can always reflash your current firmware ... just make sure to make a backup

[Q] [SOLVED] How to update baseband version from Custom ROM?

I am currently on CM10.1 for Galaxy Grand (Custom ROM) and right now the baseband version i have is I9082XXAMD1. The latest updates to stock ROM through Samsung, updates the baseband version to I9082XXAME4.
How can i update my baseband version while using CM10.1?
With AMD1, CM10.1 is running absolutely fine (disregarding the bugs known). If i update to AME4, can it (will it) somehow affect the functioning of phone/call feature ?
Anyone?
You get no reply because you seem to confuse "baseband" to "firmware" version. The firmware XXAMF7 has baseband XXAMC4. Baseband pertains to the modem. If you have dual sim grand it will surely enable 2 sims on XXAMF7. CM10.1 works only on 1 sim.

No.. there is no other easier way.. If you flash only the kernel file.. U will get unknown baseband issue.. So better flash the stock firmware then revert back to cm10.1.. this is the safest method..

Maybe flashing the modem not the kernel will solve the OP problem? AFAIK kernel flashing does not change the baseband. Pull the modem.img from the stock then add it to rar using winrar for example then flash over cm10.1 using odin. Anyway I have not tried it so OP you are on your own.

Answer
Why you don't try out to install rom through official recovery already installed in Grand.
I've got the same dilemma, I've got an s4, so I flash stock rom, then have to root that rom after update and reflash cyanogenmod?

No straight way to update baseband version
I'm on an i9295 with CM11, but the baseband (modem) version is leftover from the stock Touchwiz 4.2.2 I was using ages ago. It doesn't seem to be any fast/smart way to update it. I'll have to spend some time on this. The only way I can think of is the one proposed by rejocie001. I'll have to flash a newer Touchwiz firmware, which will update the baseband version, then I'll have to push CWM via Odin, which will hopefully allow me to flash the CM11 zip again.
If anyone has a better way to do it, please speak up, it can save me a lot of trouble. Don't leave me in the dark here.
Thanx.
only 3g
please help. i flashed my note 3 with cm12 and cm13 but i only get 3g connection. how can i make 4g again?
thanks

Sure, there are lots of them.....
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/development
Those roms are all TWRP flashable custom and semi-stock rooted roms.
Many of those are 4.3 custom roms, check it out.
Any of those roms are fully compatible with your phone.
Good luck!

I tried a couple of 4.4 and Jovys 4.3 but went back to 4.2.2. There are certain Xposed modules that don't function properly. It is a hassle just for App2SD. I just use FolderMount and call it a day. Don't fix what ain't broke.

I'm confused..should I take the OTA or not ?

I'm not rooted, running stock out of the box 5.0.2 tmobile us 64 gb edge.
If i take the OTA to 5.1.1 with the latest build, will i still be able to root and flash twrp with a rom etc?
I am not new to odin but new to the s6 way of things. S5 was so easy to root.
if youre not rooted go ahead and do it..
i just updated and lost root.. im missing my root!!... XPOSED ... NOOOOO!!!!:crying::crying::crying::crying:

I have taken every OTA so far and they have all worked with out TWRP posted by Aou.
I haven't yet tried it on the latest firmware, OH6, but there is no reason it shouldn't work. Just Odin flash twrp after downloading a custom ROM to your internal memory and then immediately boot to twrp and you should be able to install any S6 ROM provided it is bundled with the unikernel or if you flash a kernel that supports the ROM and the G925T.
And as for Xposed you'll need to flash a deodexed ROM to get it working. There are several choices out there, Xtre Sto Lite is a popular one.
Hmm will try that..
Xtrestolite is a good rom, but you will not have VoLTE and WiFi calling,
There is one rom that is deodexed/debloated with VoLTE and WiFi calling. . RAPTURE is the name g920t
But dev left development. . And it's of8.
