I can use Google voice search to set a reminder or send a text but if i ask a question, it just opens the browser and nothing else. Running v10h on D855. Is this working for anyone else?

Do you have root? Have you updated the app? Cleared it's defaults and cache?

Hi
I was updating this earlier and had a message come up asking to download a voice command program but I skipped it by accident.
This I take it was to give commands via voice.
Pls can somebody tell me the name of the program I need to activae this as I can't find it
i think your talking about the voice to text thingy, which is in settings > text to speach and install voice data see if that works
Mm, not sure, but I think it may be something to do with Google Maps Navigation (well, beta... finally becoming available for the UK. As I cant post actual links, just amend as necessary:
hxxp://xxx.reghardware.co.uk/2010/04/21/google_maps_navigation_uk/
At this moment, google navigation only works in UK and US. So any other countries JUST PRAY HARD!

Hi
I've used RomCleaner on Revolution rom and disabled the google talk app. Installed the rom, and indeed there is no "talk" in the app page. But - now i get "talk" notification, about friends sending me messages in google talk, and when i press the notification, nothing happens...
I guess the app is installed only as service or something like that. And i can't get it to log me out of it.
What can i do?
thanks
yair
I had some fun playing with S Voice when I first got my phone, but it quickly got frustrating. I use my Bluetooth earpiece a lot (DH calls it my Borg Implant...) and I'm used to using voice control on my Vibrant. I'm finding that when I try to do the same on the S3, that S Voice gets it wrong way more often than right. I'll tell it to call my Mom by name, it'll call my Mother In Law. Or random numbers. I had to change Mom's name in my contact list to "Mom." I also can't get it to work with playing music in Google Music.
I'd prefer Google search with my bluetooth but I don't know how to make that happen. I've tried going in to the apps and disabling S Voice, and that did indeed not cause it to come up when I touch the button on my bluetooth, but nothing happened.
Is there a way to cause Google Search to be the default again when I want to search for something, play a song, compose a text, or call someone?
Thanks for any advice.
I would love to know this as well. If there's a way to override S Voice with Google voice search, I will do it in a heartbeat. Anyone?

Good Luck.

Get titanium backup and "freeze" S-voice is a solution I would suggest. As well as clearing the data and cache of S-voice in app manager under system settings because it should clear the S-voice being default. Please thank me if I have helped you. Take care
Try this. Double tap Home to open Svoice. Press menu, then settings and disable everything!
Next go to Settings - Language and Input
Press Voice Recognizer and you should be able to choose Google.
Then press Voice Search to configure.
If you can't choose Google, try switching to the Swype keyboard, then try again.
I hope this helps!
I got this partially, enough to be getting on with. I went into my app manager and disabled S Voice. Now when I touch my bluetooth, it gives me Google's voice dialer.
I wouldn't mind S Voice so much if it actually worked.

Thanks for the suggestion! What I ended up doing (because I'm not rooted) is I disabled S-Voice, then installed an app called Home2 Shortcut (can't post link to Play Store - sorry!). That allowed me to choose the app I want to launch on double-tap of the home button. Works flawlessly!!
Hey does s voice work on 4g/3g? because i tried it and it said network error and then i try with wifi and it works fine!
Hi Everyone,
I installed the 4.2.2 ROM from vijendrahs, which runs great on the Desire.
But I cannot get Voice Actions to work. When I say "call xxx", I get the web search result of "call xxx" instead of the "xxx" contact like I expected.
Voice parameters are in french, but I tried english and it does not work better.
Has someone figured out a fix for this yet?
Thanks,
lejnfns
I'm experiencing the same problem on my GN2 (SCH-i605) running imnuts' Tweaked VZW remix. Every time I try a voice command it performs a web search instead. The developer of the ROM stated that it's working fine on his so that leads me to believe it's probably a setting we've accidentally toggled or maybe an app we have that's interfering with it and not the ROM itself.
I hope someone can shed some light on the situation.
Thanks,
Bodie
Edited to add solution: I went into the app manager and found com.google.android.voicesearch and cleared the cache and data and then did the same for the Google Search app and rebooted. As of right now mine is working again

Awesome, I'll try that!
So this happened after the app update...wtf is this?
I have this same problem. I've noticed that it happens after I've used the Amazon music app. The only fix I've found was to force stop the Amazon music app and it clears these blank messages. I'm now on Android 8.0.0 and had this issue as well with the latest Android version 7, I was on. I have the Pixel 128gb on Verizon.
Its a problem with android messages
Yeah, I don't think it has anything to do with the Amazon music app running in the background anymore. Previously, when I saw the prompt that Amazon music was running in the background, if I started the messenger app, I got those blank threads and as soon as I force stopped Amazon music, the blank threads disappeared. Now, they stay and just go away on its own. Even with the recent update to messenger 2.5.211, it still does it.
It's definitely an issue with messenger.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I'm having the same issue.
I have this problem also after restoring the sms with the sms backup and restore. Basically the messages are there but I can't see them, only those ghost threads/messages and I cannot scroll down on the message list to see more of them.
same problem. here is what i did.
I downloaded hangouts and manually set it as default app for sms.
Then i opened up hangouts and went through all the threads that messenger wouldnt show.
Then i went back and forced stopped messenger, cleared data, and set it back as default.

Unfortunately the hangouts is not supporting sms anymore and is though unable to be set as a default sms app.

i have no idea why i had typed hangouts, must have been late. i meant to say verizon messages.
I got it working. Just disable the messages app and choose yes when it asks if you want to go back to factory app. Then clear cache and data and enable the app again. Then you can view all the messages. After this updating the app through play store is also safe and the messages remain visible.
