2g/3g switcher - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any app that will switch my radio automatically as I turn the screen on and off? I use intelli3g on my nexus 4, but it will only work on AOSP roms.

Have you tried it on the g3? Worked perfectly on the g2 but I've not rooted yet to test it.

4G On by default when I boot the phone

After Sprint Cust support messed with my phone, now 4g in on by default when I restart my phone. I dont have 4g in my area so all it does is drain the battery. I tend to forget and leave it on. How can I change that. I want it off by default like it use to be. Please help.
For now the only way is to probably root the phone and flash a custom rom otherwise you have to wait on Sprint/HTC to release another build of froyo. Thats taking a chance too because who knows if it will even be fixed on the next release.... I've never had this problem rooted with custom roms.
This happened before I rooted my phone. Now I'm rooted with custom rom and still have the issue..

It happens to me sometimes too. I think it's the widgets (SwitchPro etc) that might be turning it on.

Yeah, if you are using switchpro it will turn 4g on by default

If you use switch pro, that is the cause. Either stop using switch pro, or use an automation app like tasker. You can set your phone to boot with 4g off. I use switch pro and have to do this to keep 4g off when booting.

You are absolutely right. Its switch pro the cause.

I contacted the developer to see if they can get a fix made.

I did too and he responded. Downloaded the update and everything is fine now. Great Support. I highly recommend Switch Pro.

[Q] what app can do screen off auto turn to 2G,screen on turn back to 4G?

I want to save battery life ....
I do not know about the app but there is one problem. Sometimes I download large files and i do not want to keep my screen awake all the time. But if it switches the connection to 2g from 3g (or vica versa) it disconnects for one second and the download fails.. So that could be a problem for downloading large files.

if can set the timer, that problem can fix
Juice defender can do that I think. Haven't tried it myself I don't use that app anymore, but I believe there was an option in it to toggle between 3g and 2g. However, you have to have root access and a kernal/rom that supports it. Stock kernals don't support allowing you to switch between 2g to 3g without doing it manually yourself through the settings, so you probably need to find a custom one that does.
Im using easy battery

You'll need a mod ROM to get full use of Tasker for battery improvement. Stock ROM doesn't allow 2G/3G switching.
I understand that CM10 allows this.
Someone should confirm, as I've stuck to rooted stock rom in SIII and plan to keep the same on Note II.

[Q] Will I Get Charged From (Wifi Tether)?

I just Rooted my Brand New LG Optimus G.
I also just installed the (Wifi Tether) app from the Play Store. I was wondering if I would be charged for using this application to tether.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Oh! I was also wondering if there were any custom ROMS available for the LG Optimus G. (Sprint)
If (Wifi Tether) won't work. What will work to not get charged?
If (Wifi Tether) works, are there certain settings I should put in? If so, what are they?
No, you will not be charged by Sprint for using the Wifi Tether app.
There are no Custom ROMS at this moment but the devs are currently working on making some in the near future
Generic ICS/JB wlan0 ...settings in WiFi tether that'll work.

Does that actually work? I had tried that the other day and even if I am able to get the connection to show is running, I can't get any device to see the signal. Once I was able to get my laptop to see the connection but when I tried connecting it went nowhere.
I get a Bluetooth hot spot without any root. Works great. Foxfi works fine.

Yes, it does work. I am using Wifi Tether (the one with the yellow icon) and have no problem connecting tablet or laptop to my phone, data works as well. Check the setting and make sure you are broadcasting the ssid

Please and Thank you.
It's an option in GravityBox (Xposed Module). No one has been able to reliably get it to work when turning it on (due to lockscreen issues I think), but it works fine when turning the phone off.
This is built into Tweaked ROM (TSM Parts in Settings) and works flawlessly. On my Note 8 I have it working via the XBlast xposed module (with Civato's KK ROM), but don't use that module on the Note 3.

G4 Suspends Wifi Calling in Airplane Mode?

So, after being unable to use T-Mobile inflight texting and Gogo not being able to tell me much about why, I finally tried to see if I could connect to wifi calling at home (where it has and still does work regularly) while in Airplane mode. To my surprise, I couldn't, and the moment I turned Airplane Mode off, wifi calling came right back. Has this been everyone else's experience as well? Any known workarounds?
TIA

Because airplane mode turns off the WiFi radio?

But I can turn wifi back on and use it with airplane mode on. Wifi calling never comes back, and I didn't have this problem with my T-Mobile Note 3.

I can definitely use wifi calling while in airplane mode. Are you getting a REG99 error? or an ER81?
I'm getting the REG99 error indeed. And if I pay for gogo, I can connect and use the WiFi, just can't use the WiFi calling.

Nope, I had the same error while on the plane. I've made three trips recently, and all of them have failed. I hit up the customer service through their website on my phone, and each time, was granted a two hour pass (duration of the flight) to use hangouts instead.
This occurred on different airlines with all three flights.
TMO was not able to figure this out either, since I had them look into this since the first time it failed on me.
Yeah, definitely seems like my phone won't do WiFi calling when airplane mode is on.

There are documented problems with wifi calling and xposed. As I recall, the gist of it is that with xposed installed, Wi-Fi calling works only if lte is available. Without xposed, wifi calling will work with wifi only, as it's expected to.
There's a thread somewhere here about this on the t-mobile section. Basically if you install a deodexed rom, wifi calling works as it's supposed to.
Thanks for the heads up! Guess I won't be wifi texting on flights.

Circling back, flashing a deodexed ROM indeed fixed it. Thanks! [emoji106]
