I tried using the quickremote app and only see the option to add a TV and Cable Box with limited options. Looking on the G2 forums for the QuickRemote I see people talking about adding their Xbox, receiver, etc and also mention a custom option for having it learn devices not built in. Am I missing something or are we dealing with an limited version of the app?
Maybe I'll have to try an alternate IR app. Would really like something that can do activities similar to the Harmony remotes. I still use my Harmony One with a broken screen.
True, true. Looks like the G Pad got something like a light version of the G2's QuickRemote. I was searching for 3rd party IR remote controls but haven't find anything.
I used an ir remote app on my Samsung tab 3. But it doesn't work on the G PAD. And here is why:
" Unfortunately our app doesn't work on the*G PAD*(or any other*LG*device), because*LG's IR Blaster access is locked and encrypted and we haven't been able until this point to crack that encryption. The only way to access the blaster is through*LG's sdk, which doesn't allow the use of our own database, but instead only being given access to devices already configured through QuickRemote."

That sucks, thanks for the info. Hopefully they will update the app or allow 3rd parties to access the IR.
Anyone try the Quick Remote app from the G2?

I tried to install QuickRemote.apk from G2 (moved apk and odex in system / app and installed the necessary rights), the application starts, but the functionality remains the same (
I think I might just bite the bullet and get one of these.
logitech.com/en-us/product/harmony-ultimate-hub?crid=60
It will have way more functionality than the QuickRemote app will ever have and also work with my wife's Nexus 10 and both our smartphones.
Also nice that it doesn't have to be in IR line of sight view for it to work.
Bought this pad for almost only one reason, to have it as a remote in my cinema.
But can only say that I fell for it to hard to change to a samsung tab instead.
As you already have implemented the remote functions of this device are worse than bad at the moment. But I emailed the folks of the TouchSquid app a while back. By the looks of it is the best suited remote app for me.
They said that when LG finally will release their codes, the TouchSquid app will be able to handle the G Pad. :highfive:
Hope it wont take to long for LG to release it though....

Just curious, but what's the advantage of using QRemote over, say, a Logitech Harmony remote?

At the moment I got a Harmony 1100, the worst thing with the remote is that it is so slow. Then there are other minor problems.
The G Pad will also be a universal remote for the whole home. Heat, light, surveillance, curtains and so on. So I want "one to rule it all" -kinda way remote for the house.

Forget it, dude, QR won't work like that. For all that stuff (heat, light etc.) you will need a complete control system connected to wifi and an app for that, or stuff something like that. QR's app and IR won't make it...

The G Pad uses IR to control TVs, etc. Do all of your other devices also respond to IR? Also, IR requires you to be in the same room, so it's not very well suited to the kind of whole home automation you're talking about. With IR, you would have to walk around with the device to point it at the things you want to control. A system using radio would make more sense.
As far as the functions QRemote is designed to do, i.e., IR control of TV's, etc., a regular wand-style Harmony remote is a lot cheaper and does a good job.
I know it won't work with the IR, never said it either. Going to use a network based station and controll it through wifi.
It may be cheaper with a harmony remote (specially when I already got one) but where's the fun in that.
Have you tried this app Smart IR Remote? If so, does it work well?
Thanks in advance

I have that app on my HTC One and love it. I thought I could use it on the GPE edition but it will not work. Here is what the developer told me "Unfortunately our app doesn't work on the GPad (or any other LG device), because LG's IR Blaster access is locked and encrypted and we haven't been able until this point to crack that encryption. The only way to access the blaster is through LG's sdk, which doesn't allow the use of our own database, but instead only being given access to devices already configured through QuickRemote."
Less feature packed Quick Remote than is on LG G2(on G Pad, no "off brand" televisions for selection and only TV & settop boxes can be programmed, whereas LG G2 you can do numererous types of devices from air conditioners to Blu Ray players...

Yes, this was a big disappointment for me.
I have a Samsung 40" TV and a couple of IR controlled fans in my apartment and I would have loved to be ablet to controll all of them instead of just the TV...
IR blasters are becoming very common (which is a very good thing for me) among both smartphones and tablets but unfortunately very few of them can be fully taken advantage of...
I don't care much about pre-sets, all I want is a "learn function" (i.e. an IR receiver/sensor and not just a blaster, plus of course the SW to manage it).
Defiantly disappointing that the quick remote is so limited on the g pad vs the g2 weird that LG would gimp it like that hopefully they will upgrade this app to be like the phone version in functionality.

I just bought the G Pad for the same reason, to use it to control my TV and cable box, and this sucks!!!!! the QuickRemote doesnt have my TV and Cable box, and can't use 3rd party app to use the IR blaster, has anyone found a solution? if not I'm returning this....
Hello,
I'm the owner of a brandnew G Pad 8.3 and I'm very happy with it. I just found out, that you can actually use the infrared sensor to turn on/off your devices (TV, Video-Audio Receiver, etc.) but the pre-installed app is limited to TV, Bluray players and DVD players. I found some other apps to simply learn IR codes for other devices but they dont work on my G Pad. I've heard, that one can only access the IR sensor with the LG SDK, and most (probably all) apps wont be able to use this sensor. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Best Regards
I've looked everywhere for a solution but no success..Also wrote to a couple of developers and they told me the same!

This is strange. I dont understand the philosophy of LG. I would understand it, if they restrict the usage of their built-in hardware to force users to use LG software. But to restrict it and then not develop a good tool to use it is just ridiculious, It is like: "Here have this awesome, usefull piece of hardware, but you cannot use it".

It's even more ridiculous for the GPE version of the gpad - the IR blaster in that is flat out unusable!

The tin foil hat wearing part of me always thought the GPE versions of the gpad were the ones which failed the IR Blaster internal tests... I have no proof of this and it seems like the hardware is slightly different so... probably not true, but it makes me laugh none the less.
The encrypted ir blaster is bad enough but coupled with the cut down version of QuickRemote on the G Pad it's down right punitive. I would love to see the business justification for doing this. Yes, they provide an SDK with documentation... So compelling that ZERO apps have been developed with it. LG needs to step up and unlock the ir, integrate code translation into an update and just set it free. Doing things this way isnt't going to win them any hearts and minds, least of all mine.
I haven't had any problems with 3rd party apps with it on my vk810 vzw. You saying that you can't get it to learn codes? Wouldn't it have to have a ir reciever also? Or do the it emitter work both ways?

What ROM are you running and what 3rd party apps have you tested that work with the ir blaster? There is no ir sensor so I know it can't learn codes. The hardware interface to the ir blaster on the V500 is encrypted and to date only works with the LG QuickRemote app.

Couple of possibilities here. Either they used different ir hardware in the otherwise nearly identical LTE version or there is something in the software that unlocks it. I'm hoping software. Can you name a couple of the apps that worked by name so that us V500 users can try them to verify if they work or not for us?(won't work ) Then I guess it's off down the road of stirring up some interest to pick apart the stock vk810 ROM to see what's up with this unlocked ir blaster. Thanks! :good:

Have this problem on the LG Pad 7.0 lte, while using a digital cam I can see the IR with the stock app, other apps don't send the IR signal.
LG has not opened up the api. Therefore the non stock remote apps do not work.
Any news on this? Could we not just replace the locked LG IR 'driver' with an open one? (I'm aware that 'driver' isn't the right word, but forgotten the android equivalent >_<)

With my admittedly small experience in this area, I would guess someone would have to write one from scratch / reverse-engineer the original one in order to get anywhere.

Nice update
The update work for anyone? I got it but have been unable to set any of the new faces to the watch. They don't show up. Maybe something screwy with my oneplus....

I have it and it is working. You may need to give it a few minutes for the new faces to be transferred to the watch. They appear just like the original stock faces.
It is nice to have the award winning Moto but it is a shame they didn't add any of the additional features such as weather or battery percentage. I think the clone of the face that boostr29 did for facer is still nicer. The Motorola face likely uses much less battery power though. Wear 2.0 should let people create much more involved faces that can display more information such as unread email etc.
If you havn't got the update yet or want to see what they are like, I took a photo of all the new watch faces:
http://imgur.com/a/XJXT5
Pascuals a favourite, I'm sure the My Design will be better in time... It won't be good for anything beyond casual usage though - you need to crop the image for it yourself, and the ticker hands you can't customize outside of the preset options they have.
Yeah, the My Design is quite limited for now, and you can't set large preview cards on it. But at least there's now the option/toggle to add the date to all of the other watchfaces too, which is handy.
Generally this is a bit of an odd update, as it just adds Moto Body features that replicate existing Fit ones, except for Calories. Now we have again the typical Android mess of duplicated features, despite Google's efforts to control Wear.
I dont understand how anyone can use a white face. That flat tire looks terrible. I always run a black face, so its not too noticable.

Try to restart the watch. It worked after I did a restart.
Same issue here. I've restarted the watch, reset the watch, uninstalled and reinstalled both Android Wear and the Connect app. None of the new apps or watch faces will show up on the watch.
I just wish the date option was a bigger font. My old eyes have a hard time seeing it.

The app is a ton of fun, hopefully they continue to expand it. I have several pictures that work great with the DIY watch face.
Yeah I'm loving this, the custom pictures are nice and hi resolution!
Thx for sharing. Had moto connect app disabled.
How are u guys getting the update? I don't see it on playstore?
---------- Post added at 10:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ----------
Nvm. Odd. I had to search for the app and then it said update. Would not show up automatically.
My phone wouldn't find Connect update (kept telling me Connect was up to date)
On my PC, I visited -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.targetnotif while it said installed, when I clicked the Install button I was able to pick my Moto X, and click OK.. After that, the X notified me of the app downloading and installing. I now have the update.
Seems like the best faces are the one's that create the illusion of a round face by having some sort of inner circle that is not disrupted by the flat tire look. Basically you tune it out since all the major eye candy is above it, only the tiny hash marks are broken which you barely notice anyway. Having a full white face or roman numerals makes it very obvious there is a screen break at the bottom.

I wound up having to reset the Moto X altogether. Somehow, I think swapping between a work-week phone (Note 4) and a weekend phone (Moto X) got some apps stuck on the watch that weren't on either phone anymore. When I reset the Moto X and then reset the 360, it stared to work correctly.
Too bad beelink dont work anymore else can easily switch devices with the watch.

Any roms or cool tips?
That's a great question, I'd like to know this too.
Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk
There's an outdated ROM called Gohma that hasn't been supported since January 2015. That's about it. So to answer your question, there isn't one. Building the cable necessary to do it is kind of fun, though, even though I'm pretty sure that I shorted something on my watch by attempting to use it.
Yea it would very cool to have different roms . Let me ask you this can you set the default fitness tracker on the moto? Like if i don't wana use moto fitness. Can I use Google fit. Also does Nike running work with moto 360? Thank you I am thinking of getting one
Well, for me, I would use "advanced settings" which needs rooted device to increase vibrations, because I can't feel notifications, or increase vibrations through system files. And I'm sure, there has to be some file, where I can completely disable heart sensor, because imho it consumes battery alot.

I don't use any of the fitness functions of my 360, but I do know that you can block the notifications of any app that shows up on your watch. So in your case, you can block the notifications of moto fitness (It's called Moto Body, actually) and keep the notifications of google fit. This is a native feature of the OS. No rooting or ADB trickery required.
Oh okay. Because I don't want to use a moto body. Does the moto have 360 have GPS?
No, Moto 360 does not have gos.
For me, the biggest thing it being able to disable screen wake on touch. Honestly, I don't understand why they didn't include that option in the settings.
Rooting just isn't possible on 5.1.1, from what I've read, anyway. It would be nice if @okibi updated Gohma to 5.1.1, but we'd have to downgrade first and I don't think that's possible.

It's present there from Android KitKat (4.4.4.) if you didn't observe. Its true that it does the same job of unlocking the device but the new face unlocking API implemented in Android 8.0 is much faster, better and more reliable than smart lock.
It checks for persons eyes after confirming the correct face

If you are on a custom ROM with Android 8.0 or above there are ways to unable it but if you are on stock (7.0) then you can't use that even with the 'Motorola Face Unlock APK'.
If you are trying the smartlock @masivb mentioned then use Autoinput plugin along with it so it unlocks with just one click
