N7 Crash on Lenovo Tablet (B6000-F) - fixed with restart (but important info)
Crash: on first open, and subsequent opens, app crashes. Have sent report via app (not Google). Team should have it.
Restarted and the app works.
------
Detials:
App: 2.4.2
Device:
Android 4.4.2 (3.4.67) stock.
Lenovo "Yoga 8" Tablet: B6000-F
---
App crashes on "open". First time: Crashes after a few seconds on black screen. Error: Application Crashed! com.nmobile.nplayer.
Report showed it crashed whilst scanning for music.
Thoughts: I assumed ti may have something to do with the insanely long filenames that n7 make, as I deleted my library and then copied it from my phone (which has n7 and works fine) and recieved errors saying several of the file names are too long.
EG:

This may still have something to do with it as i deleted all of my album art.

Problem is from file name definitely. Yes we saw the error log. In fact the error was from Android itself and not from the app by itself. We will look to solve the issue. Thanks for the prompt feedback!

More crashing / information.

Hey Mate,
It seemed to work for a while (Since my last post) but as of this morning it has started crashing again. I've sent 4 reports -
1. Report after first crsah
2. Report after cache/data wipe & restart
3. Report after uninstall/reinstall
4. Report after uninstall/full data wipe (delete full 7n folder - 152MB)
After report no.4 I restarted again and rescanned my collection and it works fine. All album art is showing. I have managed to replicate the crash, but I still have on idea what has caused it, as I can't isolate it. When I tried I wasn't able to make ti crash a third time.
Sequence of events:
I was using n7 briefly before closing it. I then plugged the tablet it in to USB (charger only), then switched my internet on, installed iDisplay, switched my USB mode over to media & debugging . I tested iDisplay and didn't like it so I closed it, then turned on the Dolby Digital app and switched it's preset from Movie to Music. I then opened up n7 and it crashed.
I followed the sequence to the point where I installed iDisplay & switches USB/Wifi and then it crashed (so pretty sure not the Dolby App) but playaing with the wifi and USB and iDisplay individually makes no difference.
Note - this is the unlocked/paid version.

The applications you are using are conflicting with the application unfortunately

Video Encoder - Sound in sync??

I spend quite a lot of time travelling, and find my HD2 has an ideal sized screen for watching films on when on the move.
Previously I had the Touch HD - which was also great.
I've been using a program which I found on here called MP4forHD - which works great - but all the videos are slightly out of sync. I'm processing them on a quad core 2.83ghz PC with 8gb or RAM, so I don't think its the PC thats the problem. When I check them on my PC once they've converted - they're already out of sync - so its not the phone.
The program converts directly from a DVD or file - which is exactly what I want.
Prior to MP4forHD, I was using another tool I found on here which was just called Encoder. It only did files, so I had to use DVD Decryptor, then VOB joiner to make a file that it could re-encode. I've tried it just now, and its also out of sync.
Both these programs have a setting for HTC Touch HD - so they encode at the correct resolution. I've tried fiddling with settings, but no matter what I do, it always seems to be out of sync.
What programs are folk using to get a good video file - and what settings? I'm away tomorrow morning on holiday and have a pile of out of sync films to watch! I hope I can get some suggestions so that I can re-encode a couple of them to be in sync
Cheers...

I just use the standard Manilla player as its the only one that utilises the GFX chip on the phone. I do have Core Player, but it doesn't play the movies any better.
I've just been hunting through Core Players advanced options and realised that there is an A/V offset - which if I set it to about -0.3 seconds works perfectly!
Ideally I'd still like the films encoded in sync, so if anyone has any magical programs / untilites then please let me know. At least I'll manage to watch in Core Player in sync on my flight tomorrow
I use avidemux, which is good because it has lots of options and is free. I hear handbrake also works well, and microsoft even has their own, which worked well for me the one time I've used it
Microsoft Expression Encoder: http://www.microsoft.com/Expression/products/Encoder_Overview.aspx
Avidemux: http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/
Handbrake: http://handbrake.fr/
On a side note: If you have the time, could you see how high you can get the bitrate on a h.264 WVGA video before it starts stuttering?

Some basic questions

Hi - I am new to Android and am struggling with some fairly basic concepts:
1. Unloading images, and video: I have Win7 and using the built in Windows image importer - it tries to unload all other images - not just camera. So I get lots of bookmark thumbnails etc; etc; I have also tried doubleTwist but that seemed overly complicated?
2. Sharing recorded video with others: The Desire seems to record to a format that no one can play. Well the video does but the sound does not. I have read that there is no way round this and you can only play it on your phone!!?? Surely thats not right? I just want to email friends some videos - surely thats not tricky!?
3. Multiple calendar reminders: When I get a reminder I get the option to Snooze All or Dismiss All - but I cant seem to dismiss just one reminder. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help

1. The beauty of using a non-Apple smartphone is that you don't have to use a special application to manage your files. Just connect your device to your PC as a disk drive. Browse to it with your file explorer and just drag&drop.
2. Not sure what you mean here. Windows Media Player on Windows can play the videos recorded with the Desire. And Quicktime on OSX can as well.
3. Yeah, there's no way around this one. Bummer...
In terms of photos, why don't you just drag and drop...you don't really need to use an importing tool. That seems overly complicated for what you want.
On the video side of things, you have two formats to choose from. 3gp and Mp4. When you're shooting video there's a tab on the left. Pull it out and at the bottom is the settings. You can then choose "Encoding type" and switch. I believe you'll get the best compatibility with Mp4.
The reminders thing? I have no clue.
1. Issue with sync - OK I will drag and drop. The importer utility is normally quite handy as it only unloads images that havent already been unloaded etc; etc;

I have the choice out of H.263 and MPEG4. Both options output a .3gp file (I presumed that MPEG4 should output a .MP4). Both .3gp give the following message in VLC player "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "samr". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." Media player doesnt give me a message it just doesnt give audio. Google this tells me that there is no easy way to solve this. So how come it works for you?
3. "...Yeah, there's no way around this one. Bummer..." Bummer indeed
Oh well - thanks for your answers guys but I would really love to try and sort this video issue. Incidentally its the same with sound recordings - they use the same samr codec which basically cant be used
Ah, well it seems both RealPlayer and Quicktime can play back the videos encoded with the mp4 or H.263 format.
EDIT - And also Windows Media player. I have read that VLC can't play them due to licensing issues for the AMR sound format.
download and install the k-lite codec pack it will include the classic player which is more than capable of playing these videos. I did have an issue with my vids i was recording when i was making a recording that lasted longer than 10 minutes, it was almost as if the card was too full record properly however the recorder still carried on going, this can be recognised when you press stop on the video recording and it goes straight back to the desktop instead of the camera. when this occurs nothing will play the file as it is corrupt. it must have been a third party program i had installed as when i defaulted the device the problem stopped and it would record as normal.

Html5 video tag doesn't work in Android with local video files

Hi everyone.
I am not able to reproduce local video files, using video tag of Html5 in an Android application, even developing an Android cross walk application, the video Html5 tag only works fine with videos located in a http server, with local files includes in the application only works in full screen mode, otherwise only the audio is played, the video is showed as a black screen.
I think the issue could be related to the Web browser for Android, I tested the application in the latest version of the chrome Mobile browser and the behaviour is exactly the same.
Anyone know how to solve this issue?
By the way, the Android version where I am trying is 4.1
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards
David
the issue is not with browser.its with the video. i too had the same issue when playing mp4 videos locally in webview. i tried different versions/ encoders when converting video and it worked without any code changes. just try converting the mp4 to different encoder or better try with a 3gp format. it will work
Thanks si much, I did some tests just related to you mean, but it doesn't work for me, may be if you could me the encoder, format, bitrate, etc. I will able to solve as you did.
Do you remember the combination you used.
Thanks a lot
Regards
David
I was able to execute correctly the app in other device, with mp4 and with webM video format, but in the initial device doesn't work fine, there, the video only works in full screen mode or if the video is located in Internet, if the video is located locally it only is reproduced if I tap the full screen icon of the Html5 video tag controls.
For this reason, I am not sure that the problem is related to the video, but with the Web browser, or may be with the device, the app works fine in other device with Android 4.2 and Android 4.4.
Any idea about how to try to solve for Android 4.1?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards
David
The problem is that the local files have "file://" protocol so they can't be played by just using the video tag, you need to use a video cordova plugin like:
https://github.com/moust/cordova-plugin-videoplayer
https://github.com/nchutchind/Streaming-Media-Cordova-Plugin
Hope I helped
Suggestion
I would suggest checking that the local file exists.
Perhaps a popup-box or console log that displays the url, and manually navigate to the URL.
This is almost always the issue for me -- other than file corruption it's self.

Video Playback Issues

I got a new Moto G5 here in the UK on O2 network 2 days ago. I've noticed an odd issue streaming certain HD channels streamed from my PC TV tuner, and playing back certain files too, using both VLC and MXPlayer. The players keep defaulting back to software rendering and, as such, the playback is very choppy and slow. I am wondering if this is a known issue with this phone, as someone has mentioned a similar issue over on another forum, though playback of the same stream and files is fine, and hardware accleration is enabled, on my friend's Moto G5 Plus.
I have a link to a short clip of that file I am having issues with but am unable to post it in here due to being a new user.

Post the link and I'll test it although I'm using lineageos 15
Just put spaces in the link if you can't post link
Iv never had problems with any kinds of streaming or video playback
I suggest not only do you install mx player but also install the armv7 neon codec

Iv tested the file and it plays perfectly fine on my g5 although its playing on software decoder as hardware acceleration is not supported on this file on lineage 15 and I'll assume the same is true for stock
The only thing I can suggest is wiping the data of the mx player app in case you have changed some settings that have caused the issue
You can do this by going into settings - apps - selecting mx player - storage - clear data
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app will also do the same thing
I also tested it on vlc and it plays but is choppy I would avoid vlc and stick to mx player

Question Dolby Vision files are not displayed correctly

Hi,
does anyone else has a problem with playing dolby vision movies? Normal hevc 10bit hdr files are playing fine (although very dark). But dolby vision files ether don't have the correct colors (the typical purple/green color issues)
https://imgur.com/8Y8oUhH
or, if dolby vision gets recognized, it gets cut off on the top and bottom. The resulting aspect ratio is something like 1:6, so it is really really bad
https://imgur.com/1jtUhTb
both screenshots from the same movie
I tried the different dolby profiles using the dolby muxer from thier github (dvhe.05,dvhe.07,dvhe.08...).
Also i tried of course different players (kodi, kodi hdr edition, mx player, mpv, build in) but they all just use the hardware decoding and therefore have the same problem.
Also the ONLY file that i found that worked correctly was a demo from netflix (http://download.opencontent.netflix.com/?prefix=TechblogAssets/Meridian/encodes/)
Container also doesn't matter (thinking that metainfo has been given to the hardware decoder for correct aspect ratio). I tried ts, m2ts, matroska, mp4...
The same happens to me, unfortunately. Tried Plex too and has the same crop/colors error.
i found a solution for a few movies (e.g. some movie about a guy that has a license to kill).
If you have a movie in DV in an mkv container and the pad does not recognize it (puple/green colours) look first with mediainfo for the codec id. If it says on Codec ID dvhe this will not work, if it says V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC the following will work. (Both videos report the same HDR format "Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.05.06, BL+RPU")
demux the mkv to a hevc and audio/subtitle files (ffmpeg, tsmuxer,...)
mux it to an mp4 using the dolby muxer from github
mp4muxer --dv-profile 5.09 -i video.hevc -i audio.ac3 -o out.mp4
Add subtitles or whatever you want.
I have no clue why the aspect ratio is wrong on the dvhe files, i blame the HW decoding driver of the Pad.
Did you download the extensions?
1. Dolby Vision Extensions
2. HEVC Video Extensions
Available on windows store
Make sure to play DV files using windows video players, since DV is proprietary, most video players don't support it (even if you've got the extensions installed)

Sorry i gave up on DV. This thread is now a year old and i am on a custom rom. So i don't really want to say that it does not work as i didn't try it for some time with miui (like half a year). But Just Player uses Exoplayer which is used by a lot of players (exceptions are mpv and vlc i think).
Currently on ArrowOS:
mpv (by far the best player in my opinion): wrong colors, the fix is afaik not yet merged in the android release https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/7326
although this does also not work on my pad

just player (and any exoplayer): black screen on Arrow (but i think it had wrong colors on miui)
Thanks for your reply anyways
