Hey guys, i just got a used M8 and the previous owner hard reset it before giving it to me..
So i lost everything from the internal sd, could someone upload a back up for me?
I'm looking mostly for the items in the following folders:
.data
.showme
DCIM
Download
Music
and the root of the sd..
Thanks in advance for any help!
Of course the previous owner deleted everything , but you lost it.....that's kinda weird because what is your stuff doing on another person's phone ! What you expect ?
If an app needs it's folder it will create it. Not sure what your problem is ?
I didn't had my stuff on the phone. I wrote that i want back the stock stuff that htc put's in storage, like stock photos, music etc..
Anyone?

Had this happen, as I factory resetted (from bootloader) because I was having random reboots. Wasn't expecting to lose all the preloaded media, to be honest I usually weed out any unwanted stuff anyway, but though that surely that stuff should survive a factory reset. Thankfully, after updating firmware the reboots appear to have gone.
Below is a thread for restoring T-Mobile preload I found, as I have the international model I wouldnt be using this but was going to have a look at the compressed archive to see if anything can be extracted.

This archive only has some apk's and some png's for the camera effects. I already have those since i'm using a custom rom.
I just want to get back the preloaded pictures, music etc..

HTC's response at the link below. I hadnt backed anything up as I thought this stuff was 'built-in' and store internally and so wouldnt be affected. I hadn't really set the phone up properly, which is also why I didnt try to back up anything. So unless someone who is possibly rooted can extract the files there doesnt seem to be any other way of getting them.

Hello all,
So I bought my HTC Wildfire S Virgin Mobile on black friday like everybody else. I waited a few days and then rooted. And then I had the brilliant idea to try installing the CM 7.1 Mod for it. And well, I didn't do a Clockwork Backup, and well, it didnt work very well. The phone got stuck on the HTC screen. So finally I installed a different ROM, JikantaruROM, and I managed to get past the bootscreen but I can't use my carrier anymore. So I was wondering if anybody could either tell me how to flash CM 7.1 Unoffical release to my phone, or if anybody knew a way I could get back to the original Virgin Mobile software. It seems that you have all the other stock roms, so I would REALLY appreciate if someone could share the Virgin Mobile rom too.
Thanks in advance,
Wieland959
Seconded. Although I think mine is in a slightly worse case; I kept flashing roms and ended up in a state where it turns on, screen remains black, then the phone vibrates three times and evidently does nothing. So Wieland959, I'd advise you to stop flashing until someone posts the ROM.
And if someone could let me know how to recover from my current state, I'd very much appreciate it.

Your in the same boat I was just in. My solution was to go back to radioshack with the receipt and tell them it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Just doing the 3 vibrations. I did spend hours trying to search about how to fix it, but I dont think theres a way unless you use a jtag hookup and some sort of fancy programmer.
@Wieland959, If you want. I just tried to do the OTA update through the settings on the phone itself. It would let me download the file(I believe it should be flashable through the cwm recovery), but when I tried to let the phone install the file, I would get the android with the exclamation mark after the reboot. Ill try to post here, if it will upload. But......
DISCLAIMER!!!!
I take no responsibility for anyone damaging their phone using the file here. This file, as far as I know, should only work with the Wildfire S Virgin Mobile USA CDMA model A510C as this is the phone the file was downloaded from.
Thank you for the file, but I couldn't flash it. What might work though, if you are willing is, if you have rooted your phone, to make a cwm backup and upload that here. From there I should be able to recover and then factory wipe my phone. But thank you anyways for the file. I will keep kicking until the phone doesn't boot.
How are you planning on restoring from backup if the phone doesn't even boot?
Sorry, I'm new to this...

Okay. I managed to boot my phone and am able to send/receive texts. The rom I used? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367701] It seems to work pretty well. However, I would still like to have the original rom if someone could still upload it.
VM USA Stock Clockwork Backup
Well, I don't know much about stuff like this, but here is my clockwork mod recovery backup. It's just the stock VM USA w/HTC Sense. I have realized that I deleted the bloatware, so that's the only thing that isn't 100% stock. Hope it helps.
*Unzip the file before placing on you sd card. (Contains the clockwork folder, which contains the backup folder, and then the folder that contains the backup itself.)*

Is this a good rom? I'm looking for some senseless roms that will work with our version of the WFS. will you post if you are able to go back to the Stock Virgin backup that I have posted? Also how much memory is on the rom that you posted?
With the a2sd enabled, you get 150 to 175. It's nice.

I tried it and found my phone only had 75mb of internal storage available!!! Weird!!
Nevermind I figured out the problem. Ok. Just one question is there anyway I can get the nice clock back from the stock ROM?
Is anybody else having mms issues with the experimental ROM?

Thanks for the backup! It worked perfect for me!
would you mind if i posted the link on another forum? i know of a couple people looking for a backup aswell.
You should be able to switch back with the recovery no problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to install boot into recovery, install from SD, select specific, and select the zip of the rom. Also, I don't have my phone on me so the wording might be a little different.
MMS is a known issue with the rom from what I've read. I don't have it installed personally.
@brandonhun, Thank you so much. You're a life saver. As far as the rom goes, it still have sense on it and there are tons of MMS errors. So just wait and eventually something will pop up.

Just a heads up wieland, when you get a voice mail and you try to check it from the notifications make sure it's your number, because I ended up giving brandonhun a call. Going through the activation app and rebooting fixed the problem.

I haven't done this ROM change but if its the stock HTC Sense go to personalize and get HTC widgets (perhaps its get more HTC widgets) and you should find an update to the clock widget. That should give you the original clock plus a bunch more new ones.

I unlocked my Bootloader today and without knowing basically wiped my SD card of all personal files including music, text message backup files, my backup root files, ALL files. I honestly dont care to recover all files that were deleted but am dying to get my pictures back. Is there anyway i can get them back without the guide used to get back all deleted files as seen in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705 guide? I was trying it but it doesnt wanna play right with my laptop(Windows 8 and it keeps saying i dont have "permission", even though im the main and only user). I tried the disk digger app but its finding all kind of random pictures i never remember and things like that, just too much. So please if anyone knows anyway i can get them back share some insight.
Anything????
That was a super fast bump...you could try recovering everything with disk digger and trying to pick out what you're looking for after it finishes. The recovery applications look for anything that has not been overwritten in memory (even if it was deleted), it won't pick and choose the most recently saved stuff for you; you usually need to do that yourself.

I updated it on 12/09/2013 and I can only see pictures back until that point and not before! I noticed it too late..
Man I tried every thing I could. ****, I downloaded the entire internal memory and converted it to VHD so I could run Recuva but still most of the recovered files are in huge zips and cant open them with any 7zip/winrar type of software. I downloaded other picture apps and they dont see it either. The SD card has it's stuff still there so thats not a problem.
I have been told its because the first roll out of 4.3 was bad and some people had issues. I want to able to downgrade to 4.1.1 but for some reason most of the methods out there are for people who have a non-stock 4.3 OS and not the OTA update.
Can anyone help me? I really want those pictures/videos back!
So, how can I go back to 4.1.1? It might be my last chance to get it right. I have Clockwork recovery and tried to put on the stock tmobile OS but it always fails via Odin and Rom manager. Phone still works. please help!

Take a quick look in data/media/0 or data/media/legacy
Easy way to tell instead of looking thru all your folders.
Is the space still taken? If yes, then it's there somewhere, if not, then they are most probably done for.

Have been using exclusively mrRobinson's method (ODIN + pre-rooted images) ever since I got my S3. Have not paid close attention until recently, when I noticed the many empty folders with the _x (x = 1, 2, 3, etc...). Any idea if I could just get rid of them?
And a related question: if I would like to start "clean" with the next new image mrRobinson may release any time now, knowing that I have all my data backed up, what would be the best way to go after it? Wipe data/factory reset, prior to ODIN-ing the new? Else?
TIA

Make a backup and see. I don't really mess around with folders I don't know about. They could be places to store temporary files or something.

Since some days I have this mnt_ directory on my S4 (Android 4.3). It came up with problems of directories in Locus - map software.
They can not be deleted or changed.

You dont.
They are obviously vital to the system if they keep getting rebuilt. Like I said, likely just directories for temporary file storage.

SOLUTION FOUND, much thanks to @DocHoliday77
See here for "bootanimation", "bootsamsung", and "bootsamsungloop" files or bottom of this post.
I unziped and I copied "bootanimation" to /system/bin and changed the permissions, I only needed the "bootanimation" file, I had to change permissions to rwe-re-re, other combinations might work/be better. If someone needs to use the other two files, they go in /system/media
Again, credit to @DocHoliday77 for the files!
*******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Hey everyone,
So, I tried changing my boot animation, and now I don't have any (it's just a black screen with the original sound)
(I'm on Candian Telus, with 4.4.2)
Basically what I'm asking/looking for is someone to attach a couple files off there phone so I can replace the ones that were altered through this tutorial, and hopefully get a boot animation back.
I'm not 100% sure if I need all of these, or if I may need more, but I have a pretty good idea of what was likely altered:
/system/bin/bootanimation (the extension-less file, this is one that I'm positive that got altered)
/system/bin/samsungani (possibly just and additon fr tutorial, unsure if needed. Information on if others have it would be awesome)
Any information on my situation would be amazing!
Have you tried factory reset (you'll lose data this way)?
Can you flash your ROM again (data will be wiped though)?

No, I haven't tried either. I'm trying to avoid losing any data, if possible.
Also, I'm not sure if it will fix the problem since the files have been altered directly. (I'm not sure if it will just reset with the file it has now or not)
Any thoughts?
Factory resetting won't help since boot animation is on /system.
If you can't find them here you can always copy them from a stock rom.
Make sure the binary file is from the same build as your current rom. It might not matter, but it just might.

Yeah, I'm really hoping someone is nice enough to copy and paste their bootanimation file in here, but I doubt it'll happen...
Any tips/ideas on how to go about copying from a stock rom? (I'm new to a lot of this stuff, so I'm unsure of how to go about this)
you can search on google and download boot animations.
but like doc said , ' make sure is from same build cause it might just matter. i DL cm 10.1 from internet and works great .
just a thought.
err on the side of kindness
@mrrocketdog
It's not so much a boot animation itself that I'm having trouble with, but the actual system file called "bootanimation".
I believe when I tried to install a custom animation I/the files from a tutorial I was using altered it, and now it doesn't work whatsoever.
If you know of any boot animation tutorials/files that could fix this though that would be sick!
Either way thanks for the input!
You can try these if you like. I'm running Likewise rom right now, but they should work fine for you.

There should be a thread(s) in the Themes and Apps section. I wouldn't use any not confirmed or made for the S3 though. And I wouldn't mess with that binary file either. (Unless specifically told to do so in one of our threads.) Any we have here should work fine just using the actual animation files.
Some threads may also have a return to stock zip file you can flash in recovery.

Are you referring to the one you linked to? To be perfectly honest I wouldn't try it. It was for the HTC One, right? I just don't know enough about HTC devices. It might be safe to use the animation, but it may just not work. (I doubt there'd be much danger of a hard brick though, but better safe....)

No problem. It could be perfectly ok to use, but since I don't know, I consider it a higher risk is all. Another thing to consider is if it's dpi is different the images probably wouldn't display correctly.

@DocHoliday77
So after a while of researching I was thinking of downloading CyanogenMod, and the using that to do boot animation stuff, thoughts?
As long as it's from the S3 versions of cm, I believe it would be safe to try. Probably the worst that might occur would be no animation, like you already experienced. I don't use CM though, and don't really mess with the boot animation much to begin with, so it is possible it wouldn't work as expected, I'm just not sure on that. But it should be simple enough to get back to the stock animation with the files I posted before.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I guess that's really the worse that could happen, I've made a backup of my stock ROM so I should be able to go back if needed. Again, thanks for all the help!
