[Q] changing the partition map sizes - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok so i want to change the partition sizes of my galaxy s3. Like shrink system & cache size and raise the internal Storage size (See layout below)
how to i go about doing that? i see theres guides for different phones but how do i do this for my Sprint galaxy s3?
back in my xperia play days changing the partition sizes was done in the kernel.

ok let me give you guys a baseboard then.....
i have found a tool that allows you to edit a galaxy's PIT file. [Thread here!]
The pit file is the file responsible for all of the internal memories partition sizes. As you may already know the galaxy s3 has one unified NAND like chip called eMMC, not going into details but its one chip that can dynamically grow or be software modified my this Pit file as oppose before in older android devices that the system and data were hardware locked sizes. the pit file tells Odin how big and what block does one partition start and begin e.g here
Now editing a PIT file can allow you to tell Odin i want this system partition to be 600mb and the cache partition to be only 50mb.
now with all that explained your probably it seems like you have already have it down, but here's my new dilemma.
now that i have found out how to edit this i now
1. have to now figure out how many blocks are in a sector?/kb?
2. and the total amount in a 16gb galaxy s3, how to add the reminding kb on another partition
if theres any advanced devs who may know how to calculate this please tell me.

[Q] CWM backup

I think no1 read Q&A thread. Pls someone post this bug root+cwm thread cos this forum is lame and i cant post it. " only if u have 10 or more posts, plaaplaaplaa, jaadijaadijaa"
If your CWM Recovery is 6.0.0.0 and higher then the small backup size is perfectly normal... There is another folder called blobs which actually stores the most of your backup data
The way the new CWM works is it makes a shared folder ( blobs ) that all recovery instances use... for example ( easiest example ) if you make a recovery of a fresh new device, then install a few apps , then make a recovery again , the blobs folder will hold the data that is used in both of those recovery images, and the their respective folders will only hold data that is exclusive to that particular image...
kinda like this :

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
the 2 gray circles are 2 recovery images , and the white area they intersect within is what they both have in common ( the blobs folder )
that way if you make many recovery images, the wont be 800MB each, they will be 15-30MB with one folder that has the stuff they "have in common"... saves on space and time
im not good at explaining , but i hope you can understand it xD
Ooh, thanks

Resizing the main partition.

Anyone have a link to a tutorial or utility that details how to re-size the main partition.
The default 2GB size is never large enough to hold all the apps I install, and quickly fills.
I know you can configure Android to either install apps onto the SDcard by default or just move apps to the SDcard, however, I don't want to lose widgets. Therefore I'd rather re-size the main partition to about 3 or 4GB so everything can install without fear of running out of space.
Thanks for any advice.
I don't think that is possible

Thanks for the replies, but forget it.
I was reading around on tutorials about how to edit your pit file and change the partition size. I was able download my pit file using heimdall, edit the partition sizes of the pit file, though I must of screwed up somewhere, because when I uploaded the pit file back to my phone I super bricked it .
Yep, the blue light of death. I must of wiped the partitions clean off the EMMC using heimdall.
So, ya, I done goofed.
I bought a phone off ebay for $30 with a broken lcd, and a clean ESN, so I'm hoping to just swap out my logic board when I get it. If all works well, then it was a $30 fail. Maybe I'll be able to recover $10-15 selling the other phone for parts.
Let this serve as a lesson for those looking to attempt this. DON"T DO IT. Unless you either have the equipment to jtag your phone and re-flash your EMMC if you brick it, or there's some rock solid proven fail-safe method of re-sizing the partitions on the E4GT.

If it's easy I'd suggest you take it back and replace it, you've clearly been sold someone else's return after they've stuffed it up. You read enough on here about how people bugger up their tabs then return them hoping the retailer won't notice what they've done. Mine is packed with apps and system memory is less than 6gb.

Mine says 5.63gig you must have a lot of stuff running.
Thanks for answering me
Actually I bought it over seas
That's the problem
How do I know what did they stuff it with so I use root explorer to delete it if it's easy
Or pit file signed with reparation so I fix it
B, r
at last i fix it
here is the solution incase some one have the same problem or need signed pit file for p600 wifi only
just flash the pit file with odin
after that flash stock rom and thats it
now used space is 5GB

Can't mount /storage/extSdCard after partition SD Card CWM NOT WORKING AT ALL

Hi, I'm hearkenoath and I have to bear with a Galaxy Fame GT-6810L ;P Not complaining so much recently though.
I partitioned mi 32 GB SD class 4 Card Adata (if the brand helps) using Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition like sayhellotwoheaven posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126363 I followed his steps and numbers. Even though I knoe that partitions should be only 20% of the total space.
And I know, I know: maybe our kernel doesn't support EXT4. I'm using Corsifame ROM from this forum but the perfomance was pushing me to smash my device against the wall. So I was interested in swapping virtual memory AND I KNOW, VM has a reduced number of R/W cycles and potentially can fry my SD/internal storage.
I used this helpful thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50143050&postcount=101&nocache=1&z=8882311745546758 and set it up to full ZRAM usage and Swap partition (since the other options don't worked for me)
The result was superb, so much better that before or with the 32 GB card not partitioned but the space ended in 9.99 GB only readable trough the phone and with the Kies installed.
My problem is this: the SD card cant mount, obviuosly I can't flash zips from CWM (only using /sdcard0) or backup and that stuff. I tried umount /storage/extSdCard/ and mount/ from CWM. Also can't cd to that directory (but I feel like never can't)
What can I do?
My root was with VRoot if helps. I appreciate all input.
P.S. I followed this tutorial and got Backtrack 5 running in our humble device. I always thought that my device would freeze

Where to get a good persist.img file from?

Im once again into this typical "I bricked my phone and spend endless hours searching for tutorials and hoping that something work" stuff. This time I broke my persist.img and noticed something strange:
There are dozen of tutorials which state that one should download a clean fastboot rom to extract the persist.img (".\images\persist.img") from the image folder and flash it either using recovery or fastboot edl in combination with a modified rom to only flash this partition.
Now I noticed that the persist.img partition is pretty empty for most Xiaomi stock roms:

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
In comparisation the persist partition I extracted from a friend who luckily got the same phone:
How is the above persist partition from the stockrom supposed to help someone when there are just empty files? Atleast for me it didnt bring back the sensors when I flashed it. On the contrary the persist partition from my friend fixed everything.
If the persist file of every stock rom is empty beside a few zero byte files the conclusion would be that the only way to get a working file is to get your hands on a unmodified one from someone else.
Or is there some magic that will enrich the partition with new files as soon as you boot the stockrom for the first time?
How come there are so many tutorials saying that one should flash this partition from stock?
are you sure you have downloaded a fastboot (TGZ) rom and open the TAR file?
