Hello,
Jolla SailfishOS seems interesting option as a mobile operating system, at least for a linux enthusiast like myself. During the last week news about interesting hardware adaptations have come to life. I had to try out the rom for the Nexus 7 (2012 grouper) available at the XDA Forums Nexus 7 discussions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/rom-sailfish-os-alpha-t2859817
I was surprised how well it worked! Yes there are bugs and things that didn´t work, but for a first alpha release it was quite good. I´m actually still using it although I will soon switch back to some android rom. Yesterday there were some early rumors about HTC Desire HD port not available yet: http://www.jollausers.com/2014/09/sailfish-os-ported-to-htc-desire-hd/
SailfishOS uses Cyanogenmod/Android for hardware drivers (libhybris) just like Ubuntu Touch.
Jolla has released a Sailfish OS Hardware Adaptation Development Kit Documentation giving quite detailed information how to build a version for different Android devices.
http://reviewjolla.blogspot.fi/2014/07/jolla-guide-for-installing-sailfish-os.html
For hardware requirements a device with an ARMv7, supported by CyanogenMod 10.1.x is needed. I quess this should be ok. (Still memory, hardware keyboard support etc. are a question.)
But what do you think? Would you be interested to see this running on the HTC vision and are there anyone advanced enough interested to try porting this? I´m quite sure my own skills would not be enough to handle this task :silly:

I never said that I will abandon the Vision and it's community, I only said that I will abandon Android

Hearing that I have faith the sailfish project will continue for some time to come! Bonus!

Anyone heard anything about when someone might cook up a ready to use ICS Rom for the EVO?

Only confirmed one I know of is Cyanogenmod 9 coming out in January.

Expect at least two months. And for official HTC roms ported to our devices even longer.

I'm really surprised to find that after searching the evo dev forum that it appears that there aren't any active porting projects. I'm curious to know why that is... the evo 4g seems like a pretty speedy phone that should fairly easily support ics without a problem.
I know that Cyanogen will probably release an ICS port at some point "when it's done" but cyanogen is well known for having extremely long testing cycles before releases (even beta ones) are made and both the ics sdk and sources are now available... the tools are there, i'm just really surprised that it seems nobody is using them.

AFAIK, they've switched the base from the SDK dumps to source as soon as it was released.

Ports like this take months, as the source is not released with the drivers for all devices and the device drivers that are used in Gingerbread AOSP roms are not fully (if at all) compatible with the new OS version, not to mention the amount of testing that is involved to make sure everything is bug-free enough for any kind of beta release. ICS ports are in the works, just don't expect any sort of stable or mostly functional releases for a while...

Hi Fairphoner,
well, all you have to to is to wait a little longer and, from time to time, have a look at
wiki dot ubuntu dot com slash Touch slash Devices (sorry, I am not allowed to post outside links yet).
As the Fairphone isn´t the only Mediatek MT6589(m) - based Phone availiable, I am optimistic to see first alpha releases there soon. But "soon" for me means two or three months minimum. So be patient. I think the first Cyanogenmod Release for the FairPhone will be released much earlier. That´s what I am looking forward to.
Cheers

I started looking into it yesterday hit a major roadblock when noticed that LG G2 is CM-11.0 based and Ubuntu touch is CM-10.1.
Talked to Rsalvetti he said that hes been working on something and should have a update next week.
Like to help out
I have an LG G2 and would like to pitch in on the development effort. Also have ordered a G Pad 8.3 so I should be able to piggyback if I work on both devices. Love to see a full featured Ubuntu on these devices.

what's the status on this?
I just got the source downloaded and started playing around a bit....
Ubuntu touch on back burner?
I was excited to try and pitch in on this but it seems like the Canonical drive for Ubuntu touch development has lost steam lately. I had read somewhere that priorities had shifted and it was not receiving the same attention and effort that it was during Q3 2013. I'm still excited to contribute but it doesn't seem like there is a lot of progress on the project on a regular basis. That could just be my impression but I don't see the progress spreadsheets getting updated for the most popular phones and tablets shipping over the last 2 quarters.
Last time I started working on this they where merging all the phablet codebase with the android 4.2 framework and working on installing their own code review system (gerrit) for phablet.
Haven't swing around to ask in the IRC but rsalvetti could tell what's the status on a phablet build for 4.2

Well, there's a difference between their official builds for Nexus devices and community builds. There's been a lot of work on the official builds lately. You can see improvements on those supported devices every day. It's just logical that Canonical cannot take care of tens or hundreds of devices. Therefore they focus on a small selection. If you don't see any progress on a particular, officially not supported device, it's not Canonical's fault.
By the way: They rather speed up development. To manage this, they even quit their cloud storage service: http://beuno.com.ar/archives/318
I talked to Ricardo Salvetti he told me that you can check out a branch of their ubuntu modified android framework with this command.
repo init -u https://code-review.phablet.ubuntu.com/p/aosp/platform/manifest.git -b phablet-4.4.2_r1
I am in the process of figuring out now how to get libhybris and get the old brunch command working.
Haven't gotten on IRC but if you get on it through the week during the day i am sure they can help us out.
Ill let you guys know if i have any luck getting the device, kernel and other repositories checked out.

That's excellent that Ricardo Salvetti gave you assistance to get going on development for G2. I didn't get in touch (not pun intended) with him yet even though
I have been on the Ubuntu touch IRC channel to try and follow current development activity and news. As for the previous post, I don't expect Canonical to do
any significant development except on the original 4 (now 3) platforms that they planned to support with corporate development. I see they have discontinued
support for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and so now are down to 3 devices. I made my comment on slow development pace since I didn't see much being
added or updated to many of the most popular 2013 phones/tablets that you would expect to see get a decent amount of community dev support. Furthermore,
since UT is based off of CM10.1 it is difficult to try and support new devices since CM10 is now basically in maintenance with CM11 receiving most of the dev
support for newer devices. I love Canonical and there commitment to open source Linux development but it just seems like the Ubuntu Touch development is
facing an uphill battle to remain relevant when newer devices are becoming really difficult to support due to the dated started point for CM based branch
development. At this point I would love to hear Canonical talk about a strategy to shift newer Ubuntu Touch development to a CM11 base if that could be
managed.

cm 11.0 is 4.4.2 the reason I had to wait for a while for development on the LG G2 was exactly that they did not supported CM11 with the command I posted before they now support CM11 Devices and I believe they moved their core 3 devices to CM11 already.
Exactly for the reason you mentioned about CM10 being in maintenance.

Well that is great to hear. I guess I haven't been following UT as closely as I probably should. I'm very eager to pitch to get some development underway on LG G2 and LG G Pad 8.3. I was just discouraged because these newer platforms all have been moving onto KitKat and UT was using JB (CM10.1) base for development so it seemed like an uphill battle even with a lot of help from Canonical devs. Since they are moving UT development up to CM11 these and other platforms should be a much easier development task since work on CM11 and 4.4.2 AOSP projects is very active, hence getting questions answered should be a lot easier.
Got the easy part done building ubuntu touch.
Now I am working on getting it to boot it is really hard since I have no way to diagnose why it's stuck on the LG logo.
Does anyone know how to build a serial usb cable for lg devices I did one for samsung and it helped debug issues in the past.

Looks like the Andropod interface can get you USB debugging. Post back if you wind up using it for UT development on the G2.

Thanks I found it when I tried getting it working. But that does not appear to mention it's for the kernel it's supposedly used for debugging applications.
Looking at the block diagram I don't think it will work since basically that device is a USB to serial command adapter.
While I need the phone to output serial (done in kernel) and to figure out which wiring is the one to read that serial output.
I could try setting up a framebuffer but i gave it a quick attempt and it didnt work.
Additionally I haven't figured out how to flash the kernel without having to use the ubuntu installer. and that means that I have to reinstall everything from scratch and that takes about 40 minutes.
If I could figure out the command to flash the kernel I could do a adb push kernel && adb shell flash kernel. And that would take 3-5 minutes.
Thank God I went with the nexus 5

Hi, HAM devs!
You propably don't know me yet, as i am new to the HAM. I already built CM7, 10 and 11 on LG devices though, so i am not totally new to android development/building.
Well.. i just got this Ascend Mate, and thought it would be nice to have a custom rom on it, like i had on other devices.
But all i can find is closed source flashables. Seems like joe.stone is the only one who shared atleast something.
Don't you guys think we could achieve more, if we work together?
I really want to work on custom stuff for our HAM, but it would be easier if i don't have to start from scratch, while a bunch of people COULD share their experiences with me.
So please contact me, if you can provide some useful informations on how to build for the HAM. - Let's do something!

Dont hold your breath mate, in my opinion This is one of the worst forums on xda !
Well, maybe i just start instead of flaming.
Here we go: https://github.com/hwmt1-u06
If anybody is interested in participating to this, just let me know.
I think the main reason for that is that most of the stuff here was developed in Russia or China and those of us here just basically searched online and found ROMs and posted links here.
Joe Stone was the main Dev here and he's moved on. Gold Concert did some good work here too and moved on. Outside of these guys I think the rest of people in the group are like me. We know a little about developing but we're not Devs so as a result the forum has pretty much died.
I would welcome your developing skills here right now:beer:

currently trying to contact mrAlmid, and looking into his roms for a hint to the right direction.
Just a thought. Since huawei mate and huawei p6 are essentially same hardware (same motherboard, same cpu/gpu) with main difference in display, maybe some of the sources for p6 will come in handy?

Once a Finnish developer tried porting sailfish to the P6, he (or someone he forked from) had managed to collect almost all the sources for the P6. You can try tinkering around, if you have time, you could figure out how to build the needed libraries for the graphics stack from source (all the other devs jumped the boat already), if you succeed then we may have a chance of compiling a working Lollipop rom. For the mate, dont forget to change the touchscreen drivers as it differs on the P6 and the Mate. Heres the repo: https://github.com/locusf/cm11-p6

albinomannnnn!!! Nice to see you here. Was on the SGS5 since launch and all your work on the device made my good times with the S5 stretch all the way till recently.
Good to hear there're so many excellent devs getting on board and/or already on board with this device. Seems like HTC 10 will have a bright supported future. So glad I made the decision to jump the Samsung ship. The S7/S7E had everything I would want hardware/layout-wise plus IP68, but once again they locked it down. WTF Samsung. And I'm Korean and usually support our products lol.
Anyway, was a long time lurker in SGS5 forums til I got the HTC 10. Hope your health is going well/improving, and looking forward to more advancements with our 10's!
