Hey guys.
This is just a short notice that the Kernel Source for the Amazon Fire Phone is now available at https://github.com/Fire-Phone/
Hi!
I would like to understand what does this mean; I'm a newbie in this world but I would like to contribute as much as I can

Thank you, I have been looking for those files. However, I can't build a kernel until TWRP or CWM is built for the Fire Phone.

If you have the boot.img and recovery.img, you can examine it. It should have the partitions and other info in them.
Look for the /etc/recovery.fstab
Use this tool to unpack and repack theme. https://github.com/beide/Bootimg-scripts
for example in command line: perl unpack-bootimg.pl recovery.img
I was going to buy a firephone to but it went back to $499.
Ok, We dedicate some time to this phone.

Hello everyone!
I'm an average avid photographer that owns a kindle fire 1st gen. Its been collecting some dust for quite sometime but now that I have been taking more and more pictures with my Galaxy made me wonder if I could add some photo editing tools that I could use quickly on the fly. So I discovered Photoshop Touch ! It seems to fit my needs quite nicely but when I sideloaded it to my kindle it just kept crashing.
Now that I know it doesnt function properly on the KF1st gen because of the OS that came in with the kindle made me want to try to root and flash a diferent rom on it to see if I can use photoshop on it.
So my goals are the following for this device:
1. Photo Editing
2. Light Reading
3. Web Surfing
4. Listening to music
What would be the most effective way to achieve this ?
What would be the best rom for this tasks in that particular order?
Is there a way I can dual boot the stock rom and the custom rom so I can use it for 2,3,4 and boot the custom one for just photo editing ?
Thanks in advance for reading my post and for any help, tips or insights on how to achieve this.
Ichigo said:
You cannot dual boot stock and a custom ROM, but you can dual boot GR9 Modaco ALT and a custom ROM. GR9 Modaco ALT is basically stock with root. Photoshop Touch will work on Jellybean.

Android 4.1.x and later & CM10 and later are all Jellybean. Your best bet is to install a normal jellybean ROM and use Gr8 alt-ROM (MoDaCo) for the alternate boot.

Did you flash the ROM zip and then gapps zip in twrp? If you did, you might try a clean install again.

Yeah I didnt notice there was an app right there on the tablet.
I didnt dual boot because I discovered that the Hellfire was good enough and I was able to achieve everything and it really flies. I regret not doing it sooner.
Hi Guys,
I need a help with rooting my new Chinese Phone. Official name is 820.
It's a 1 GHz Rheastone processor with Android 4.1.1. More details here in attachment.
Any ideas which app should I use to root this non-branded phone?
Also can you advise a custom ROM?
Any help appreciated.

No, not yet. I was waiting for some advise. Actually the reason why I want to root it is mainly the poor battery life. I'm hoping to freeze some unnecessary apps and processes. Anyway thanks for the hint. I was planning on trying One Click Root.
From my experience one click root does not work on chiniese phones (at least those which i got). GL - i hope you have some succes!

hello, my name is elia, I recently purchased a samsung s3 clone I unlock (root). I followed several guides, one of whom also taken on this site and none are successful. I can do the whole process, it will restart, but supersu not appear. a model is a bit special e1920_v77_zlh_fwvga with Android 4.1.1 and cpu MT6577. Someone has done it? I am glad that I can help someone..
Now, about that partitioning, there is this link; mtk6577gamingrig.blogspot.com/p/how-to-change-your-sd-card-to-phone.html
But I have not tried that partitioning, I rooted my phone just so I could change some things in "build.prop" file, and bootanimation.zip, so that everyone gets the idea that I actually have the original Galaxy S3..
If you succeed in partitioning, leave a comment here.
Also on this blog; mtk6577gamingrig.blogspot.com there are all kind of compatible games for our phone..

Boocy.

Hey man, could you please make SP Flash Tool backup of your ROM, and upload it on http://bitupload.com/ for me so I can fix my cellphone??
Only you can do this becouse you have the same model as I do ..
Here is how you can do it; http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.pt/2012/04/creating-rom-dump-of-your-mt65x3-device.html
First you will need ADB drivers installed, and MTKdroidTools, you can find all of the files you need here; http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/91738412/file.html and then start ADB Terminal from MTKdroidTools..
Then enter these commands;
---------------
adb shell
cat /proc/mtd > /sdcard/firmware.info
---------------
Then just continiue tutorial from that link,,, anyway... When you are done, it will be around 650 Mb in size, just zip the folder and upload it on http://bitupload.com/
Please man do me this favour.. my phone is dead with out your help, you know I would do the same for you.. :/

Help and TIA.
Hello everyone.
I'm SafinWasi. I know I'm new to the Fire Phone forums, but I found something big,so I thought that I should post it here.
It seems that unlike the Kindle Fire Tablet series which used a TI OMAP based chipset, the Fire Phone uses a Qualcomm MSM based chipset. That being said,we should now have access to the Fire OS images for modding.
To those who have root:
Please use the following steps to get the boot and recovery images:
Using ES File Explorer, mount system and "/" path as rw- and navigate to /dev/block/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/ and copy "boot" and "recovery" to sdcard.
Please send the two images to me via PM or post it in this thread so that I may open them up for examining.

Thank you once again for getting the ball rolling on this. I had (almost) lost hope!
Absolutely certain root is needed to pull any of the files. I have tried every method possible through ES (e-mail, BT, MMS, copying the file to /sdcard/, etc.)
Another thing I can try is to obtain root on my phone. Someone mentioned towelroot has many different versions floating around, I've only tried the v3 from geohot's site. I'll find some other sources & see if I can't get lucky.

Judging by the 35,000 units sold, and not much interest / activity for this phone on XDA, I doubt anyone's requested it. I sent the following email to Amazon which "escalated" my issue, & also sent the email directly to Jeff Bezos. It's a long shot but let's hope it makes some noise. By AOSP guidelines, they are required to release the device's source code.
The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) has compliance guidelines for companies which produce & distribute devices containing the Android operating system. The recently released Fire Phone operates on the Fire OS, which is a modified version of Android 4.2 "Jelly Bean".
In order to comply with the AOSP guidelines, Amazon is required to release the source code for the Fire Phone device, which it has not.
Please make the source code available for download.
Thank you.

Since the boot loader is locked, I doubt that custom recoveries would be possible, but SafeStrap is definitely a probability.

If anyone knows of a safe place for me to download old versions of towel root I can try to help with pulling the image. AT&T for some reason can't find my phone on their network so it's basically a paperweight and don't mind trying to help with this. If there are other methods I can try to root let me know as well. I can give them a shot when I have some down time.

@SafinWasi and all - I posted the APK in a separate thread in this same sub-forum. In retrospect, I should've just posted in this thread.
EDIT: I believe Towelroot will only work on this phone if you haven't updated to 3.5.1. I'm searching for a way to revert my phone to 3.5 to test this. The Amazon AWS site only has the most recent version available for download.
2ND EDIT: @SafinWasi - I found the old 3.5 OS download link in another thread. The file has a *.bin extension and is 1.12GB. We know through the recovery we can "update via ADB" which will prompt you to adb sideload an update file. I'm thinking I'll try this to get back on 3.5 & towelroot it.
Fire OS 3.5 (thanks to @ONYXis) - https://s3.amazonaws.com/fire-phone-updates/update-fire-phone-121_1.0.1_user_101012120.bin
First of all, I take no credit for these images. I received these from @Dilbert1959 who has confirmed root access using towelroot on Fire OS 3.5. I simply compressed the images to an acceptable file size for XDA.
@SafinWasi - Feel free to move these images to the OP.

Hi All, This is my new Project for
ZENFONE 2 LASER
=//Flash all kernels with ease\\==
What is this?
This is a easy to use Noob-Friendly utility for flashing kernels with ease. Many newbies do not understand fastboot
or TWRP because of no previous experience with these before. This project provides them with a very easy method of doing so.
The only thing involved here is simple copy/paste and renaming files.
What do I need before I start ?
1.)Any kernel image file(.img)
2.)TWRP/Cyanogenmod Recovery
WOW, sounds nice !! Tell me how do I use this project of yours ? :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Okay Okay Have some patience !
The instructions are as follows =>
1.)Grab any kernel designed for your device model. It would be a image(.img) file.
2.)Rename that file to boot.img
3.)Download the zip file from attachments and open it with any compression manager on PC or Phone
4.)Put the boot.img inside zip file.(Most probably you won't need to extract the zip for doing this.
4.)Put the modified zip in your phone.
6.)Reboot to TWRP , and flash the zip file
Easy enough huh !

See the attchments.
Also the Thanks button is just to the right of the place where you will find the attachments Do press it hehehe.

yeah awesome bro, keep it up
