Lg G3 on Tmob $30 prepay - T-Mobile LG G3

Hello,
I currently have a nexus 4 and an using the contract free $30 a month prepaid plan.
I'm planning on buying the lg g3 outright from T-Mobile.
If I buy this way I should just be able to use my current Sim card. Right?
Also, does anyone know what type of warranty is offered when buying this way?
Thanks

This is what I did. Pricey but this phone was worth it. Warranty is same.
Sent from my amazing LGG3!

The warranty is the same as what? My nexus had a one year warranty and Google would even replace it for a year of needed.
The LG has the same? If so that would be awesome.

1 year manufacturer warranty is pretty much standard at this point, but just remember, you will be dealing directly with LG. I'd guess the turnaround time to be something like 2 weeks.
also, it might not be a bad idea to hold off and see what the next uncarrier announcement is. I foresee some major overhauls to the individual plans coming in the near future. depending on what happens, might be better value to go postpaid and get JUMP! on there...

Just wondering, does this come with 2 batteries? I've seen other countries with some accessories included.

It does not.

That really sucks. Most other countries include that at the same price.
Do we at least get the headphones?

No headphones either. Phone + battery + charger - that's it.

This is a question which should be put in the q&a section and also you could call tmobile and they wouldve answered both those questions on the spot lol

I have a nexus 4 on the same plan. I know why you got confused.
If you log into T-Mobile and then try to shop if you are on the prepaid plan it will not even show the lg g3.
I think you should just be able to put the Sim in and then log into T-Mobile and switch the phone in your account.

I did this, same plan, no issues. Had to buy it at elevated price at a store however. Bought my own separate insurance policy too since no Jump with TMO.

I came from Sprint to Tmo back in late July of this year. I purchased two G3's straight from Tmo through Corporate Telesales. I did NOT purchase any JUMP, EIP or Insurance with TMo, phones were purchased in full, outright.
I asked the CSR about the return policy and all on it. She told me that if there are any manufacturer defects or problems with the phones one year from the date of purchase, I can just call up TMo and they'll overnight me a replacement phone and to return the G3 back to them in the same box and they take care of it with LG and Asurion.
I made sure to verify that over the phone with her and to remind her that I do not have, nor ever will, the JUMP, EIP or any insurance plan with them. She said it doesn't matter, TMo still takes care of any LG defects or problems due to the workmanship, but NOT drops, spills, water damage or any of that other stuff that insurance would cover, just manufacturer defects.
Now that's something that Sprint NEVER did, EVER.
Of course, when I opened up my account, I was also told I could have up to 10 voice lines and 5 data/tablet plans (total of 15 lines) on my new account, the first that she saw that. But, that's because Tmo was JUST starting their new family plan expansion.

Great info. Thanks

I work for TMOB
Warranty process for Prepaid is a bit different from PostPaid.
With prepaid you must ship the phone first. We provide you with the shipping label. Turn around time depends on inventory of the device. If the device is in stock it will take 5-7 business days.
Postpaid gives you the benefit of them shipping you the replacement device FIRST. Without insurance on your account they will bill you $20 for overnight shipping.

probably not a good idea to out yourself. they've been calling people out on tmonews, especially when the information is incorrect.
how does tmob have any information on when/where the device was purchased/warranty info? it 100% is not in quickview so I really have no idea what you are talking about.
I have NEVER heard of a corporate tmob store even wasting time on what would be a warranty exchange for a prepaid device, the answer is usually always "contact the manufacturer"

Hey I'm just here to help. I've done it before. I agree that its probably better to deal with the manufacture themselves but the exchange option is there under device support. If it doesn't recognize the IMEI you can type it in yourself.
You'd be surprised how much prepaid we do in my area. Lately with the new promos we've been migrating them to post paid...

I hope it is ok to ask a related question here. I did not ant to start a new thread because the question relates to this topic.
How can I buy the Lg G3 from Tmobile outright? On the site there is no option to buy it without a plan. I already have this same plan as mentioned in this thread($30 Pre Pay)--I just want the phone.
Thanks,
Rich

Apparently the unlocked lg g3 cannot be bought through T-Mobile without one of their plans.
I'm hoping I can still buy one in the store.. Does anyone know if this can be done?
Thanks

[Q] Question for T-mobile users.

Can anyone on T-Mobile confirm if T-Mobile will sell a phone outright without a contract. I'm in Canada, but I have a family friend who is now a resident of the US that is willing to go to a T-Mobile store and buy me a GS3. Will this be possible?
Yes u can buy it without contract but you will have to pay full price

I have absolutely no problem paying full price. So I just want to make sure I understand this. Your saying my buddy can walk in a T-Mobile store, put down the cash, and walk out with the phone without having to go on any plan or activate the phone? I only ask because I'm not used to such practices. In Canada this isn't usually allowed, on occasion a sales rep my screw up and sell you one without activation. But usually you have to activate the phone on some kind of plan even if you buy it outright. It's really pathetic up here for phone plans.
Yes I can confirm. I've walked into a store and bought my s3 cost 680$ for me.

Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation guys.
I believe you have to have an account with them before they sell you a phone. You don't have to renew a contract if you pay a full price
I once tried to buy a phone from at&t like that and they did not let me.

Some stores will prefer to sell to customers only since it's newer. They can decline to sell it to you or request that you purchase a $50 activation prepaid kit.
They told me that they had to give them to new customers / people adding/upgrading before selling them at full retail. I don't know if they are more available now or if they're still sold out everywhere like they were a week ago when I was trying to get one... But yes, they will do it. Eventually.

But I somehow don't buy your story. Blocking IMEI is good protection against thieves.
Depending on the situation it can take weeks for an imei to get blocked. It doesn't matter how you got it, matters of it was paid for it not through them ie first payment default or stolen. Tmo will not unlock it. You need to call the cops.

Bad luck? Really? You allegedly chose to purchase a top of the line phone for full price off of Craigslist instead of the T-Mo store. Why in the world would you do that? Something does not make sense.
Anyway it's nice to see that if my phone is stolen, I can block anyone trying to use it. A person in one of the threads who claimed to work for Tmo said they can't really block phones. Guess that poster was wrong.

Bummer dude, if T-Mobile said it was stolen then that's all there is. No way to change that, they block the IMEIs of phones that are reported lost, stolen, and phones on EIP (Equipment Installation Program) that have stopped paying. Best bet is to unlock to AT&T and sell it. I got mine in a trade for my note, but made sure to get the receipt even tho it was a previous customer of mine. Called T-mobile and immediately to have it registered in my name with IMEI to make sure there was no EIP in place. Next time run the IMEI, ask them to go into a T-Mobile store with you instead of meeting them at McDonald's.

What is not to believe? I bought mine off CL too... I didn't want to extend my contract, I have 1 more year with T-mobile then I'm switching to something else (but that's another story). If I bought the phone from T-mobile it would have cost me like $330 + tax - the $50MIR + get locked in to T-mobile for an extra 12 months of service... I bought the phone from someone - Yeah, I paid a little extra, but I have the option of LEAVING T-mobile in 12 months - AS I PLAN TOO, for a cheaper monthly service - so TO ME it was worth the extra up-front cost.
I'm not defending the OP, I'm defending the idea that its shady to buy a high end phone off craigslist or NOT from the dealer. Just because YOU think its ok to FINANCE the extra balance and cost of the phone instead of paying up front for it, that's YOUR CHOICE (or the OP choice) if not then that is also THEIR CHOICE.
I have bought several iPhone's - ALL FOR MUCH MORE THAN THE CONTRACT DISCOUNT PRICE because we have been on T-mobile which doesn't offer the iPhone so the only way to get the iPhone is to buy out right. That might make me stupid, but not shady. :good:
All cellphone carriers in the US must sell phones at their outright price. I just bought my S3 from VZW at $600 full price...Why didn't you just do that?

Question about T-Mobile N3

I'm stuck on ATT for one more year. I wanted to purchase the note 3 on T-mobile outright and use it on ATT.
My first option was negri electronics at $690 TOTAL. However, I don't get to keep the carrier warranty. I've resorted to using the waranty a few times in the past and am uncomfortable losing that option. Especially since most other purchasable warranties involve shipping the phone instead of just driving to a location and having it replaced immediately. My second option is to preorder from t-mobile. The t-mobile website quotes a price of $704 dollars but i don't know if there is shipping/tax charges.
1) Does t-mobile let you unlock your phone immediately if you pay full price?
2) Can i preorder without also purchasing 1 month of service?
3) Does the full price they quote you include tax, do you even have to pay tax on an online t-mobile order in florida?
The answer to number 3 is yes and no. The $704 does not include tax and yes you have to pay it when you order online. I live in Florida and ordered online and had to pay tax.

1. No they don't because... see here... http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
2. Nope, you have to purchase a post-paid service which includes credit check online or by phone. But you can try getting the device in-store with a prepaid plan. Every store is different so its best to call ahead and ask.
3. No, the $703 advertised price is the base. Usually depending on your state, its 10% tax so about $770ish your going to pay.

Same thing happened when i asked for a prepaid price at the store and then including tax around 780 .... :crying: So decided not to get it.
You should always be able to purchase the 50/mo prepaid plan at the store and get the "plan price", in this case, $708. Then you call customer service and they will transfer that $50 balance onto your old line and close out the new line. This doesn't affect the salesperson's commission. I did this yesterday with the Note 3 and a few months ago with the S4. If someone in sales says they can't do it, they are just unaware. Ask them to ring it up with the prepaid plan and it will go through.

I just picked my Note 3 up from a local T-Mobile store and ended up paying about 780$ after tax. The person who sold it also happened to be a manager and didn't give me any problem when I told her I was going to purchase it without a plan and just pay full retail price. She just rang me out and said that if I wanted the warranty to be valid I had to have someone with T-Mobile just register my device on their line. I got it unlocked and now it works on AT&T's network.

You run the risk of buying a stolen devices or from a person who has been delequent on payments. For this reason, I would personally not buy and always will never buy any cellphones from craigslist. I see too many horror stories. But if you insist on buying Id make sure to ask the right questions before you buy and test the device before paying

When I buy phone off Craig's I meet only at T-mobile store and have store clerks check with T-mobile Customer Service to make sure phone is paid off and not reported stolen, then I ask to notate my account that I am the owner of the phone now and it being paid for.
This way old owner has no legal right to claim it stolen, since he is right there present with me along with store of other witnesses.

Not If the imei is transferred to a different account. Also, if this is a concern you can get a signed sales record.
Plus AFAIK, they don't blacklist stolen phones anyway. There's been some pressure from government officials to make this happen. But I don't think there's been anything yet.

TRUE STORY:
I bought a phone from CL, met at a TMobile location, ask them to transfer the IMEI to my line. so far so good??
No... I used the phone for a few month and one morning, no more network. I try my ATT SIM and it works. I call TMobile, they tell me I need to change the SIM what I do, still nothing. I send the phone to Samsung, they dont see any issue.
Call back to TMo, they tell me the phone was declared stolen and there is NOTHING I can do because I am not the original buyer!! a complete RIP-OFF.
The worst is that they wont take any responsability
At least ATT transfer the number to your account as long as you have the info of the previous owner so the phone really belongs to you while TMobile just say there is nothing they can do.
I first believe this blacklist system would be a great thing to avoid stolen phones, but the way it is implemented is so wrong that the only looser is the guy at the end of the food chain.
If you buy from CL, ALWAYS ask for the original receipt!!!! if they dont have it, it is fishy! and if you can have a bill of sale

Seems like some folks are claiming insurance fraud then selling the phones then the IMEI becomes black listed - very bad ethically and morally.
I personally have sold a few of my old iphones and more recently Galaxy S4 with no paperwork. The person checks it out it works give me cash and then bye bye. I try and prevent giving them my receipts or documents as they contain personal information on them. However I would show them it if asked.
Just curious why would some people sell their note 3 craigs list and not return it under the 14 days? Perhaps they have an upgrade and want to cash it out for a profit?

350 for a note 3? that is crazy cheap. Must have purchased it under contract or something

Yeah, they sell it for cash, but that doesn't make sense at all with T-Mobile now. Since you end up paying $700 for a phone. There is no point in selling it for $500 on craigslist unless you plan to commit fraud or whatever. Now, if it's contract like the other carriers, it makes sense and you can make a little bit of money.
All I can say is meet at the T-Mobile store and verify the phone is paid off. Then if possible (not sure if they would allow this) ask a T-Mo rep to make a note on the seller's account that the phone is being sold to your account and vice versa on your account. If the seller is okay with this, then it should give you a hint that he's a somewhat honest person, but anything can still happen. I say just buy the phone from T-Mobile, authorized retailer, or Newegg/Amazon.

Good points raised. I was going to return mine and get a craigs list used T mobile version, but it ain't worth the 200 dollar or less saving for me. Like you mentioned why would they sell the t mobile one when they can get their money back from store minus 50 perhaps.
Bought mine for 600 yesterday it was still sealed I love this phone so much!

You have to take precautions.
Have something in writing when buying or selling. Include the serial number and IMEI number then both sign it.
I have sold and bought a handful of phones with no problems. Yes I do consider myself lucky because stuff does happen.
Avoid PayPal and high check amount transactions. They are scams.
phones
I didn't know tmo had changed like this... I thought you could just pop in a sim card and be done... so now there like sprint and verizon with a id per phone?
Ya, I've seen several times, someone pays the initial down payment on a phone (or 0 down), sells the phone for full price, then defaults on the payment. The buyer usually doesn't find out for 3 months. Definitely meet at a store.

Ship jumping?

If you've been on the fence about jumping ship to Tmobile now may just be the best time. I'll be going into the store tomorrow and talking to a rep about some details (which I'll share here) .
The new promotion starts March 22. They'll pay up to $650 on your lease plus etf fees I believe.

I think it's $650 total per line for all fees.
There's no way I'll go back to T-Mobile. I barely had service.

i'm definitely jumping ship. With two lines (me and my wife), the bill will be cut in half if we unlock our current phones and move them over to TMO.
I believe you'll have to trade in your current device(s) if they pay off your handset fee(s).

i'm gonna check on this to be sure.
edit: you are right. oh well, still saves us money by switching.
I've also been thinking of jumping ship to T-Mobile. At&t hasn't done much for me so I'll see how T-Mobile is.

only concern is service but TMO has really increased their service quality (at least in my area) over the last few years.

Yah that's what I've been worried about it but that is true. If I remember correctly, t-mobile puts more bloatware on their phones though. I also heard details about the T-Mobile $650 buy off deal. T-Mobile pays off your lines from the other carrier but T-Mobile also buys off your phones for a certain price. Then you'll need to buy a phone off them for full retail price to cover all the costs. I don't believe it's completely true though since I didn't receive this from T-Mobile themselves

So what your telling me is, I can call up T-mobile and they will pay off my AT&T next contract in order for me to switch to them? Does this mean that I will have to buy a phone and plan or can I buy just a phone. I would buy a t-mobile note 4 to use on AT&T but I don't want to switch to a T-mobile phone and service plan. Basically what I am asking is weather or not I can use this program to get a t-mobile note 4 and not a t-mobile plan so I can still use AT&T service.
From how it was explained to me at the store.
They will pay off your device (up to $650 per line) and your contract if you have your att # ported to tmobile. Then you give them your att phone and buy a Tmobile phone and activate it on their service. They don't have contracts so it'll be month to month. I'm sure there is fine print about keeping a line of service open with them for a period of time.

Since T-Mo doesn't have contracts, when you buy a phone from them, you pay for the full price of the phone spread out over 20 (or maybe 24) months. If you terminate your service before that time is up, you're on the hook for the balance of those phone payments.
This is the same thing as if you bought a device through at&t Next. Since you are not on contract, you are not subject to an early termination fee, but you are responsible for whatever you haven't paid toward the cost of your phone.
I use to be an AT&T customer when I bought my last phone which was the note 3. Now I'm a happy customer of t-mobile rocking a note 4 with unlimited data for 2 phones for 100$. Life is good. Glad I moved to t-mobile when I did.

that $100 for 2 unlimited data lines is a great price. I know TMO extended that deal for 2 years but I just hope we wont get forced onto a different plan after 2 years.
Yup. They will probably find a way to force us into a different plan. But for now I'm enjoying it. On the note 3 with AT&T I was paying for 300mb of data. I thought if was super expensive. But now I'm happy with what I'm paying for.

I'd jump on T-mo too. But I need to wait a few months. Hopefully the deal still exists till then. Unlocked bootloaders, unlimited data, lower monthly payments, timely updates. Sounds good to me.

I still have one line of AT&T currently. I switched 7 lines over to Tmobile. I'm lucky to be in an area with better Tmobile coverage and data than AT&T. Only downside I have is wall penetration of Tmobiles 4g. Wifi calling takes care of it for the most part though and you get a free 4g hotspot or free wifi router depending on your preference. The ASUS Cellspot router is pretty damn good.
I like AT&T physical stores better too. Something about Tmobile stores around me makes me want to get a carry permit. Thank god for webstores.
