Can't turn gps/location on/off - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

I'm quite sure this is not a rom/gapps/kernel related problem as it used to work. The only change to my system that I can imagine having any influence is installing greenify+disable services. Uninstalling them didn't solve the issue. I'm sure it's a messed up setting somewhere but I can'tbfind it. Reflashing rom (not pristine) didn't help. If anyone has an idea where to look for the setting, I'd rather not flash pristine & have to redownload everything again.
Can't change kocation status from quick panel
Can change status slider in settings but gps not working though it's 'on'.

You can format /data from CWM or restore to factory settings (both methods basically do the same thing) to check if it's a setting issue, as it does look like one. Especially the service disabling part. That would be one thing that you can do.
Note that, with this method, you will loose contacts, calendar entries, messages, and of course, all settings (but that's pretty much the point of the formatting). You won't loose images, videos, downloads since those are saved in another places (your /sdcard0 aka internal memory or /sdcard1 aka external memory).
Another method would be to manually re-enable those services that you turned off. You can do that by either redownloading the app you were using before and undoing everything, then uninstalling the app. Or by going to Settings -> Apps -> All and doing it from there. Though I would recommend the redownload option.
The advantage of this method is, of course, that you get to keep all your data intact. The disadvantage is that, unless the redownloading of the app + undoing the stuff you've done before works as intended, you will have to go through all the processes and see which one you need to re-enable.
Reflashing the ROM without formatting at least /data, won't change anything since it's gonna keep all the settings.

I tried to retrace which settings had been changed but gave up and did a factory restore. Issue solved (though I'll probably never know what setting was messed up)

Glad to hear the issue is solved now. In the future, I would recommend avoiding disabling services, if you can't foresee the ripple effect that it might trigger or if you don't have enough experience to know exactly what can or cannot be disabled. I, for one, don't know what each of those processes do or how are they related to one another, I never messed with those things and I generally prefer to be safe rather than sorry. So, I do backups of my contacts, messages, calendar entries. In case something goes wrong at some point, even a pristine installation of the ROM won't affect the data that I consider important since I can always restore it.
But we all learn from our mistakes. So, as a general suggestion, if it's not broken, don't fix it. And usually there are different, better, safer ways to accomplish the same thing. If you feel uncertain of the odds of your success, you might consider looking for alternatives before taking a final decision and messing up your phone.
And, as usual, we're here to help. That's what forums are for. So don't be afraid to ask. There will always be someone to help you out.

Froyo Reward if Found?

Hi all,
Using Froyo on my Kaiser and now its saying at the unlock screen "REWARD IF FOUND Please call xxx-xxx-xxxx (looks like an American number)
Im sure my phone isnt stolen as i distinctly remember buying it lol.
I dont want to give the number out incase some dude get pranked.
On another note, does anyone know how to adjust the touchscreen as the touchscreen adjust app just crashes and ive tried reseting screen to factory default as well.
Thanks.
Ok guys this is getting worse now, is anyone experiencing this?
It now says "This phone belongs to (looks like a Dutch name) and then their number.
The phone cant launch any applications and I am unable to get into fix permissions, clear dalvik cache etc because it doesnt stop there when loading, it just goes straight past and doesnt give me a chance!
Ive tried reloading another nbh on it and still the same.
Help?
Try loading another build on it.
Seriously, this is strange behaviour, but flashing another nbh will not change this, that'll only change the kernel and boot files.
You could also try flashing a stock WM rom, as this will certainly clean out everything on the phone, after that reflash and install android again.
Yea I know, weird or what, its a bit worrying as now I have 2 peoples phone numbers? =S
I would be rather angry if i was using a service like this, only to find out people are getting my phone number?
Ive asked this in the past but, is there anyway to save the txts, its just everytime I switch, i have to clear our data too as it seems to cause issues as well.
Saving a backup saves all data and program data, which I believe causes problems.
Thanks

Issue with apps on SD after reboot

Hi all,
I have as strange issue in regards to apps on the SD card. I'm rooted, S-off on 3.29 stock. I installed installLocationMod, which enabled me to move any apps, even those not necessarily programmed, to be moved on 2.2 to the SD card. I basically moved everything that's not system, gapp, or widget related.
Everything works great, until I have to reboot, or I attach the phone to a PC as a hard drive. Basically, the apps don't come back after the phone comes back up, or its disconnected from the PC. I have to spend many hours doing reboots, battery pulls, dalvic cache wipes, etc, and then seemingly randomly, they pop back up.
When they're missing in the app list, the settings / app manager shows that they're there, but they're always "computing" when I select one to read the properties. Also, the market installer gets stuck, and I can't uninstall anything either.
Recently, I've read threads about partitioning the card before moving apps to SD.. is that still necessary with 2.2? Is that why this is such a pain? I'm thinking maybe the only solution is to move everything back to where they came from, and only move those apps that are specifically programmed to be moved on a non-rooted phone, and get rid of the modlocationinstall program altogether. That's a drag because I don't have room for all the apps, so I'll have to lose some... which is one of the reasons I rooted to begin with.
Any ideas? BTW, this is the second SD card that does this. The card is good.
Thanks,
Mike
Hey, I found this elsewhere on the forums in the LimeMOD rom in regards to mod install location:
"important !!! after a reboot you need to stop LauncherPro in the running applications menu to reload all sd installed apps !!! "
Could Sense be the reason for the missing apps issue? Is there a way to 'postpone' it on reboot?
Thx,
Mike

I'm thinking I might try stopping the Sense service after the reboot and letting it restart and see if they come back. I'll try it if I have to reboot again.. I'm actually avoiding rebooting at all cost now since it takes hours of frustration to get back to working order again.
Another thing I noticed.. alot of programs have that I moved have hidden services that are listed in a start-up auditor I installed just to see what the system was doing on boot up. I originally thought I'd be safe moving them since I didn't have widgets associated with them, or they didn't seem system related. Now I'm beginning to realize that I might have to be more careful what is moved, since I don't always know how they'll behave on boot. I suppose that's another reason why its best for non-techies just to rely on devs to build the default 2.2 a2sd behaviour into their programs, rather than forcing them there with stuff like mod install location.
Oh well... I'll keep you all updated when I know more. I'm rather surprised though, that more people aren't experiencing this...
Restarting Sense doesn't do anything. It seems still to be completely random.. usually after 4 or 5 hours of me continually manual rebooting. Nobody has any input at all?

update:
After several unsuccessful reboots, I was able to get back the apps by going into settings / phone storage and unmounting the card, and remounting it, with no reboot. I've tried that in the past and just had the phone lock up, but this time it worked. FWIW, modinstalllocation was set to auto, and debug was off. I don't know if its repeatable, since I don't relish having half my phone unavailable for half the day to test it, but next time I lose everyting, I'll try it again and update the thread. I realize that judging from the lack of responses, most of you all don't really care, but since one guy did say he had the same problem, and to prevent someone in the future from going through all this aggravation, I'll keep on top of this. It will be my little contribution to the forum...
UPDATE: Had to finally do a reboot, and all the SD apps came back! I'm thinking the card dismount/remount did the trick

[Q] Any way to delete empty/nonexisting files that show up listed? (ringtone/notif)

For instance, I delete most of the notification and ringtones that come with a mod. In fact, I've deleted all of them. I've achieved this using Root Explorer with RW enabled.
But when I go into Settings > Sound > Ringtone\Notification, some names show up. I've tried deleting cache, etc. But no matter how many times I do this the names show up; even after restarting my phone.
2 vanished somehow, but I still have 1 left. Specifically it's called "Teleport". There's no real file and no sound to play from. So when I highlight it, it doesn't play, because I've deleted it. I just want the name gone. The nonexistent files don't show up in any music list or even in file manager such as Root Explorer.
It's been like this for a while. How can I fix this?
CM7/S-Off
I knew I couldn't get a response on this board, as always!
Have you tried going into Settings ->Applications and clearing data? Im not sure which at the moment (too sleepy to think that hard), but it may be stored in Media Storage Sound Set, HTC Sense.... Not sure if this would work, but could be worth a try.
If i am remembering correctly, dont clear data on Customization Setup/Settings as it could cause a problem. Not 100% sure im remembering right but ill try to double check that later if i have some time.

Actually, it deleted all of my customized ringtones and notifications but still left unused ones. Time to Nandroid Restore! Ugh.
Thanks for the reply, though.
{edit} Actually, it usually refreshes the list on reboot. I'm going to copy my saved ringtones/notifications folders to the systems audio folders and bring them back. Going to see if, on reboot, the two system sound files that shouldn't be there actually disappear now.
aaaand. Nope.
Sorry about that! Didnt expect it to delete anything, just figured when the service restarted it would repopulate the data with what you DO have on your phone.
After restoring, are you still having problems? I am on SalsaSlide, and when I deleted system ringtones/notifications, it was immediately corrected on my list of ringtones available. So I don't think you should even have to restart the phone. (If it is working correctly of course!)
Anyway, sorry again for the unexpected result. Hope you got it worked out.
Still hasn't worked. But thanks for the suggestion. Restoring actually make a copy of them so I had two of each lol. I'll try and figure it out. I could clean it up, but those few that have been deleted just still list in the menu. It was with the ROM it came with, but maybe some data is stored in the backup? It would be, but I don't understand why I can't delete them?
Thanks again.
Just thought of something else that may be worth a try. It looks to me that the data is stored at /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases/internal.db
If you have SQLite Editor, or something similar you can try to delete the entries manually. Or you can find and download sqlite3 (prob here on xda), place it in /system/xbin/ with correct permissions and try it out from the terminal. I havent tried this out, but seems to me it should work. Im sure i dont have to say it but back up the file first, of course!
Unfortunately I am not well versed on database editing, especially from terminal, so i doubt id be much help with specifics there, but i thought it may be worth the suggestion. If I think of anything else ill let u know. And i think i have sqlite3 at home so if u cant find it let me know and ill try to post it here later.

Thank you, I will look into it!! I will report back here on the result.
{edit} they don't even show up in the SQ! Others do, but not those specific entries. I'm stumped. Oh well. Thanks for your help. You don't have to persist on this
Its no big deal really. Im pretty much just going from memory so it only takes a min or two to respond. And at least for me problems like this that are mostly just annoyances, really annoy me!
Was just thinking that if they r not listed in the database file, but the others are, then the problem is not there. Its being stored elsewhere....maybe in dalvik cache, or cm settings??
Im not sure where else to look right now but i did leave a few more ideas in ur other thread already so check that out.

I don't even know what's going on anymore!
I downloaded and flashed the latest CM7 RC3, and I've gotten no freezes with that version.
Unfortunately, I didn't want to keep it! So before flashing on a full wipe, I removed the ringtones/notifications from the .RAR without unzipping it. Just simply deleted them. Everything flashed fine. I go into the Ringtones and Notifications options under Settings > Sound and there's about 4 new tunes from the rom that weren't even there before I flashed RC3 !
I delete them before flashing and a few show up. I can't take this anymore.

[Q] Losing "default" app, configuration and apps killed by OS

Hi all,
It's been almost a year since I got my GNEX, and I've been using custom ROMs.
Nowadays, I'm on LS RC7, and previously on PA.
I just have a couple of issues that I would like to share with you, and perhaps some of you might have the same:
1) Losing "default" app set
It happens sometimes, mostly with Launcher! It's really annoying, because when I press home, then it asks me to choose again (I use Nova). Since I do not install any other Launcher, it's kinda weird.
2) Losing configuration
Sometimes my apps just lose data. Ie: Endomondo from nowhere just starts from the scratch. Luckly it's an online app.
3) Apps that should keep running are killed by OS
I can see that happening mainly with "Network Speed" app, on the navigation bar. However, I also saw it sometimes with others.
Anyway, I tried changing ROM, full WIPE several times (cache, data, factory reset, dalvik)... and even when I change ROM, behavior is the same.
I realized that even when I do full wipe, some data is kept, therefore it might be related (not sure though). Anyway, it's really annoying.
Any clues?
Thanks in advance.

If yu are really desperate, why not give a try of formatting all that is in there... card too.. and then flash a fresh ROM.. Might help...
Hi ahsanali.pk,
I'm considering doing so.
However, I would like to know if anyone else has experienced that, and how it could be solved.
I'm afraid that doing so wouldn't fix the issue (just like first time I did a full wipe, thinking it would), so that's why I came here.
Thanks.
Any clues ? =S

How to backup and restore pixel without root? Having vibration problems.

Hello,
The vibration motor has suddenly failed on my phone. It now hardly vibrates at all and is extremely loud.
The problem seems more or less identical to this one watch?v=ZPqGD2uGG4o if you are curious.
The sound doesn't come from the speakers and I have no reason to believe it could possible be a software issue. Ie no recent installs or updates.
First thing I did was contact google. They had me boot into safemode to see if the problem persists. It does. However they now require that I reformat the phone.
This leads me to my question on how I can backup ALL app data. I have 400+ apps and it would suck to have to reset them all and or lose data.
I can sync phone contacts and such but without root I don't have a way of backing everything up.
Or is there another way to get Google to actually get me a replacement?
Thank you for your time.
If you're bootloader unlocked then root it and use Titanium backup, save it to the computer afterwards. Then unroot and factory reset as they ask. I'd probably not do that but if you have to get a new device, well then you have to. Maybe there is another way, but I've not seen it. Non root backup apps don't backup and restore your data reliably. If you are bootloader locked then I do believe you're out of luck. Pretty lousy of them to make you do that. If they just sent you a new one then you could copy from the old to the new. Maybe suggest that to them.
When you set up the new pixel using info from an old device, how much data is transferred? That may be an option.
I just went from rooted with custom ROM to full stock unrooted. All of my apps restored from the play store. I had to log into a few, but others seemed to retain app data, like Strava for instance. Google's back up seems to be getting better and better. I use SMS backup and restore for SMS/MMS because Google's backup service does not support MMS.
Well in case anyone is wondering... I bit the bullet and did the factory reset. The problem still exists of course.
Rant ahead, sorry/
There is an odd sound coming from within the device itself (not the speakers) and Google blames software? Is there some hidden second speaker inside?? It quite dumb and infuriating.
Even if there was doubt you would think running in safe mode which disables all the third party software would be enough to prove it.
It took me hours to copy everything and make sure everything was backed up. I don't blame the rep, he told me he HAD to make me do this. Honestly, I kinda wish I would have just told him I did it and it didn't work since there was no way it could have been software.
Well now a refurbished replacement is on the way. Which isn't ideal either. It has an issue that isn't too uncommon. I can find a dozen posts online about it which means there is probably hundreds of people with this problem at least. Now I have to put up with a refurbished which probably has a battery worse off as well as who knows what else.
This whole phone feels rushed, to be honest, and I regret buying it.
I won't be buying any more google hardware unless either they change in the future or the particular device has months of reviews.
/End rant

I didn't know you could unroot and make it seem like it didn't happen. This is what I should have done. Thanks for the suggestion.
"If they just sent you a new one then you could copy from the old to the new. Maybe suggest that to them" I suggested this to them several times. One guy told me he wasn't allowed to even rma it until I reformat despite there being no way its a hardware issue.

If I had the replacement phone up front then transfering is easy. Google even has a built in mechanism, but google wouldn't RMA it and have one sent out until AFTER resetting it. A lot of data is synced but my 400+ apps, none of them seem to sync via the backup and restore feature. I also have 80+gbs of other files beside pictures. I bought the 128gb for a reason... Thanks for the suggestion.
