Hello world,
I'm using Root Explorer to get access to the boot animation. But when I place it at either possible dirs. it dorsn't replace the stock. And even with the correct rights, root (ofcourse), a working bootanimation.zip and the full version of root explorer it doesn't fix it.
But its still stock boot animation! What do I do wrong?
Does it have the correct name? You didn't just leave the name bootanimation.zip did you? Also are you deleting or renaming the original? What Rom are you on

I've given all rights into the folders, and for the seperate file. When I open the zip folder at the correct dir, I can see the new pictures. Not the current stock Sense 6 bootanimation.
I'm running stock Sense 6 with 4.4.2.

I don't find any thread regarding bootanimations on Desire Z so I would like to ask some questions as I am new to this.
I managed to successfully root my Desire z and I have installed [ROM][6/5/11] InsertCoin_Vision Sense2.1 + 3.0 (v1.5) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080999).
Now I would like to know how to change the bootanimations, I did some searching on the site and found the following guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846394).
Problem is there are several method and there's a specific method for Sense ROM. If I am using InserCoin with Vision Sense 2.1, which method should I follow?
Any ideas or advise on this? Thank you.
Easiest way to change boot animations is using something like root explorer. Download the boot animation you want and make sure it is named bootanimation.zip the copy it to system/customize/ resource and set the permissions correctly.
If check the themes and apps sections of other handsets you will find loads of boot animations. So will even be packaged as flashable zips

I tried to wipe all the data in /data/local using root explorer and put the bootanimation.zip. Nothing showed up when I reboot my Z.
I browsed to system/customize/resource and found there's the default bootanimation.zip from HTC. I have backed that up and was going to overwrite it with the new bootanimation.zip but it won't allow me because the file system is read only. I tried to change the permission but no luck.
Any help with this?

top right corner of the screen when you're in root explorer there is a little switch which says r/w. click it then you will be able to back up you original boot animation, and paste a new one in

I accidentally deleted the htc sense 2.1 lock screen from my Wildfire S. I do not have a backup either. How do I get back my stock 2.1 lock screen?
Use my patch if you want for sense 3.5 , it is built to replace the original lockscreen , but if you got it removed it will re-add the patched files ...

U could try taking the htclockscreen.apk and rosie.apk from /system/app from the .zip of the rom you are using. Copy that to your current /system/app and change permissions to rw- r- r-

How do I do that? And I don't have any lock screen files in that folder. Also, how do I change permissions?
Use es file explorer. Open it up and go to settings, turn on root explorer, then mount file system. To get to / click on the star on the top left "favorites". To change permissions long press the file, go to properties, then it will show permissions and has a change button to let u modify. Download the ROM.zip u r using and use es to browse .zip and copy the files u need. Don't forget the odex files if your rom has them

What is it doing? It doesn't have to install just needs the files copied to the correct location and the permissions changed. Then u just need to reboot and clearing cache and dalvik cache would be a good idea.

You don't have to install it. You have to replace it. Or in your case just copy and paste it in the /system/app folder.
Edit: didn't see djthebogan's post

Hey guys, I flashed the new Malice Rom (3/20/12), and I was wondering how I can switch the zombie boot animation. I know where to put the zip file, (/system/media) Somehow I cannot seem to get other ones to work. I made sure the replacement files mirror the original. Do I need to flash the entire file as opposed to just replacing the files using root explorer? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I renamed it to bootanimation.zip, etc.
Copy and then Change permision file in root explorer rw-r-r

Ok, maybe it cause your custom boot animation not valid..

Well, I tried a couple other ones, and no dice. Could it be that the rom itself only allows that one(or none)?
Download rom toolbox and get the boot animations from there. By far the easiest way.

Did for myself but maybe somebody else will use it.
The icons have been taken from here.

Your phone has to be rooted and you need to have any root explorer installed.
1. I'd suggest to back up SystemUI.apk and SystemUI.odex from the folder /system/app and to think about a recovery plan if something goes wrong.
2. Copy my SystemUI.apk into the folder /system and change its permissions to rw-r--r-- (644).
3. Delete SystemUI.odex from /system/app and move SystemUI.apk file from the folder /system to the folder /system/app with a replacement of the existing file.
4. After a successful replacement you will probably get some errors, all you need is to restart the device.
PS if you don't know or understand anything from the above firstly read about it then act or otherwise you can damage your smartphone.
I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong.
That all makes sense, only thing I don't know how to do is change permissions for the apk. How do I do that?
EDIT: using both es explorer or androzip i'm unable to move the file to the system folder. I have no idea how to get it there. Should I try a different file explorer?

If you are deodexed rty mod from here
Flash it with TWRP
Not deodexed, no idea how to.
I'm fully rooted, bootloader unlocked, cwm recovery and also safestrapped.
I managed to get it into the system folder but not into the app folder. Lucky I backed up in cwm, phone kinda needs a working system ui doesn't it!

To change the permissions you need to go to the file properties. After that just cut-paste it into the app folder. Es file explorer always works for me . However it had a strange behaviour when I tried to use 'copy to' or 'move to', so just cut-paste.
Finally got this going thanks to your patience! I had to leave the permissions to rwe and only copy/paste would work for some reason. Had to reset my wallpaper and turn data back on after reboot.
Otherwise all good, thanks!

So I may be completely blind but I've been looking around and can't seem to find a thread that works for changing bootanimation on the htc one. I've tried replacing bootanimation and also bootanimation and downanimation but I never have permissions to do so even with root access. I'm currently on EclipticOne 4.4. I appreciate any help or direction to the proper thread, thanks!

Not sure if this is what your looking for, but I use this Matrix themed one sometimes. You can just flash the zip in recovery. The one you download depends on how you bootanimation file is named, but the instructions explain that.

For the Verizon One the file name will actually be either hTC_bootup_one.zip or bootanimation.zip depending on the ROM (one of those two will be in that location). EclipticOne 4.4 uses the filename bootanimation.zip.
Edit: If the ROM you're using still has the stock Verizon boot animation running, vzw_bootup would be in there.

Try using Root Browser. You should be able to with that.
And just to be safe, just add .bak to the current boot animation.zip. That way you can simply revert back in case the one you choose doesn't work.
