Carbon will also do the same for rooted devices.
You can use the free version to backup and restore locally. To backup to cloud services you need the full version.

I dont have any NANDROID backup, is it safe to flash 4.4.4 factory images on my Nexus without wipe knowing that it came from 5.0.1?

Yes45. This is one of the main reasons to buy a Nexus.
Edit: create a backup of your apps and data using Titanium Backup now so you can restore them after you flash 4.4.4.
Wouldn't that create errors due to the different runtimes?

No because your device is wiped upon flashing 4.4.4.
The only way to flash it is to wipe. If you don't wipe, it'll give errors.
Oh thanks for the wipe. The apps installed while in Lollipop that were backed up using TBP will be able to use in KK wont give errors?

Before installing a custom rom, make sure you make a nandroid backup of your system in TWRP. So, if you are not happy with your custom rom, you can always restore your stock nandroid backup that you made. It's kind of a safe prerequisite before installing a new rom, as in case something goes wrong, you have that backup which will get you back.
