[Q] Which ROM should I use for my One M8? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! So...
I've heard of ViperOne M8, Android revolution and insert coin. But I'm wondering, which should I use? I'm a big fan of stock sense 6 if that helps and I'm fairly dependent on battery life.
Also, my device is s-on. I have flashed ROMs on other devices so I'm not a newbie, but will S-on be a problem?
Thanks!
PS: I'm running Android 4.4.3

Hi it kind of depends on which tweaks you like and want to have. They are - as you already know - all sense based, so I would just test them all and decide. To name one more there is also Maximus HD, which I like as well. But I'm using ViperOne at the moment.

If you want a Sense based close to stock rom = ARHD / MaximusHD; Otherwise InsertCoin/Viper
If you want GPE I'd can only tell you about ARHD GPE

This thread will be closed soon because it will turn in a rom comparison thread (if it isn't already) and these kind of threads are forbidden on xda.
You need to sort your own personal preferences and hold them against a rom of your liking. It's all personal.......
Cheers.
Edit :
Btw s-on is not a problem to flashing roms.

Thread closed.
OP - since you clearly haven't yet, please read the Forum rules. "Best ROM/kernel" threads are not permitted.
As always, the advice is to try for yourself. The surrounding subjectivity and opinion only leads to a dreadful mess... (polite version).
Thanks

Taking the plunge!

Think i am ready to take the plunge to root my desire and also install a custom ROM. Just have a few queries that need some clarification and suggestions.
1. My radio version is 5.09.05.30_2 do i need to update this when when installing a custom ROM
2. Suggestions on Sense custom ROMs that have fast kernels with low battery drain. I have read a lot about Cyanogen ROMs which seems quite popular but its a non Sense ROM and would appreciate one with Sense. Kinda Like it.
Thanks in anticipation of the goodies!!
1. See what radio the ROM developer suggests and use that
2. I'd go all out and use the RCMixHD ROM - easily the best Sense-based ROM available and it's based on the Desire HD ROM...but that's just my opinion (wait for the LeeDroid brigade to chime in!!)
I'm far from an expert but i just flashed the latest radio onto my phone and went for LeeDroid 2.2f, which i've been running for a week or two, seems pretty stable so far. I was planning on trying a few ROMs before i get too settled into one.
which radio would that be?
For latest radio, see my signature. But as said, it's best to use the one recommended in the ROM thread if in doubt
LeeDroid seems to be quite appealing at the moment. Any known bugs for 2.2f
Don't know, not a fan of LeeDroid - don't like the custom wallpapers and apps that are used. Prefer mine to look as stock as possible
Which ROMs look as stock as possible?
Teppic's is basically stock with root access and optional extras
I haven't found any bugs at all yet, my current radio is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 which definately works fine with LeeDroid 2.2f, well it does on my Desire at least !
Any links to where i could get that Teppic's and is it stable with improved speed and low battery drain? Sorry am asking too many questions
Go look for it in ROM development - it's not that hard to do
What's LeeDroid like on battery?

VillianRom and PinkyDesire are both excellent choices.
LeeDroid Brigade here...... I have tried every ROM possible and the latest LeeDroid offering ,2.2f, is by far the most stable bug free ROM I have ever used. The RCMixHD ROM is very good, if you can live without the camera for the time being.

I get around a day and a half, using generally everything, including Sat Nav.

[Q] root, upgrade or other

Hi there
I am new to this forum but have been told this is the forum to go to for continuing development on the htc desire.
I bought an unlocked htc desire from ebay but as there are no updates was wondering what would be my best options for improving performance and enhancement of the phone.
I would like to know wether i should root the phone.
Upgrade to 2.3
or just leave it.
I would like to extend battery life and update the rom to like jellybean or other.
please advise me
My advice would be start off with a good gingerbread Rom (android 2.x), as its a mature format you can be pretty sure the phone will be stable, and all features will work. I like both the RSK team's Rom and mildwild's cm7 one, but there are many I've not tried.

You should definitely root, and s-off it to get the best out of it. For this, check the "All Things Root" guide in my sig.
As frosty said, you should start with a stable GB rom, whether it's Sense or not.
If you only want to upgrade the Desire to the official 2.3 rom, then check the RUU in my sig.
root, upgrade or leave
thankks for that.
are there only a certain amount of customs roms available for Desire , ie, CM7(GB) or can you install newer versions.
This rooting sounds good but before i doi am going to need to know more, especially the continual development for this device.
is there still good support from XDA for this device.
I am after good support and devlopment.
Why not look at the development thread and make up your own mind if the community is active or not?

root, upgrade or leave
looks busy.
just hope i dont do the wrong thing.
so is it possible to install other roms apart from cm7 what about the latest roms??
Read the first couple of posts, and the last few pages of the thread to get a feel for stability and issues. I see a simple, basic decision process, decide if you want something new and shiny, which might have a few problems, or something old and maybe a bit boring, but reliable.(gingerbread vs ics/jb)
Once that decision has been made just choose your Rom, make sure you have the right hboot for the one you want to try, so long as you have your nandroid backup to fall back on you're unlikely to break anything.

I have been reading the posts and threads about rooting and it sounds quite complicated.
Reading a mag about android and rooting you can also do it without connecting to your pc.
As I am not technologically minded on phones , the mag seemed to make it sound easier.
I think the software for the phone or website is called z4??
any ideas on this.
many thanks
A quick search suggests it's not a lot of use for us. Rooting and s-off are relatively complicated, but worth the rewards, and you can't expect a whole new phone experience without a little effort...

I'm in similar situation. I rooted my 2.2 Froyo yesterday. Installed Link2SD made appropriate partition and moved apps to it. So thats not the problem anymore.
Now I'm wondering if I should instal custom ROM and which one?
My high priorities:
Stability
Advanced functions working properly (eg. tethering)
Speed (faster than stock froyo)
My low priorities:
As new as possible (JB?)
Sense
Easy to install
Which one should I get? Or should I stay on Froyo?

You can't have sense and jb at the same time. If you want sense, you will have to install gb. If you want JB, you will have stability problems after a while, if not in the first week.
So what you are asking is impossible to fulfill.
If you want a stable sense, try Coolsense v3, or Runnymede aio special edition.
If you want jb, then try VJ's JB.
root, upgrade or leave
thanks for that.
so my aim is the following:
1.- newer and stable rom
2.- better performance
3. good and continual support for that rom.
all help welcome.

Thanks. What I read ICS and JB for desire are not so stable. So GB with Sense for me.
Try RSK SMS for a great gingerbread with sense Rom. Ticks all your boxes (apart from ics/jb)

So you would recommend to me a starting point for rooting with CM7 GB??
does this rom get updates or is this a finished rom?
in the long run i am looking for a good rom with good continuity and support.
please advise.
It's not been updated in ages, read the thread, it might not be "New", but it's stable

would this be my best bet for starting out, are there any new stable ones for desire.?
pls tell me as i dont understand the terminology listed on that page.
I know very little, but in my opinion, yes. Start with something tried and tested..and popular. Once you've gone through the process of rooting and flashing a new (to you) rom that's known to work, do the backups and have a look at the new stuff we'll never officially have, ics and jb. That backup will be there to give you a quick "Get me outta here" option.

ROM Updating

Hey, so I've been using the same ROM for quite a while now [Blade Elite v1.1] ... about 8 months to be exact, and I haven't updated nothing since then... Not hboot, recovery, Android version [4.1 currently] or whatever ... :3
I'd like to update to a latest version no-sense light ROM with some the best battery life possible... can anyone help me out on which ROM should I go for? what do I need to update in order to do that?
Thanks in advance
You need a Hboot at least 1.31 or higher. With that you can install any custom rom out here. Which one ? That's a decision you have to make. We are not going to compare roms or tell you which is the best because it all comes down to personal preferences !
Also note that comparison threads are not allowed on xda

Actually knowing that my hboot is updated got me through it all.... Thanks a lot for the quick answer
And apologies, I didn't mean for anyone to break a law and didn't ask for comparisons, just recommendations ...
Was a heads up many people don't know that rule and recommendations will most likely end up in comparing
Cheers.

[Q] New M8 owner, Have some questions

Hi I got a new HTC one M8, its the t-mobile variant. I looked at all the ROM that are offered but I don't know if I should put on a custom rom because my stock sense experience has been great(Minus the wrong location sometimes - possibly a stock rom issue). If I decided to put a custom rom it would be a modified Sense rom. Which one would you guys recommend since there are alot.(Viper,MaximusHD,Android Revolution, InsertCoin,etc...)
Lastly, I've seen around that there is a camera mod which makes pictures look so much better, it is recommended to use?
Viper ROM for me. Have had zero issues with it.
Thread closed,
Comparison threads are against forum rules.
Many thanks,
Ghost

What Rom do you use ?

What Rom do you use/recommend and why?
I am currently running viper one with 4.4.4 is there better roms/firmware to run currently out?
