Just received the OTA... After download cannot install due to the device been rooted.
Any idea how to bypass the root check or install?
You can try this app -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amphoras.hidemyroot
But I think it will not work, you can trick some apps but can't trick the OTG (OS).
I think I've tried everything to hide root. I've even unrooted and it still won't update. You have to reflash the stock rom to get it to update OTA. If only someone knew where it's downloading to so that we can extract and manually update.

No knock code, but that can easily be added putting 2 files into system/apps from the G Pro 2. You can also add SlideAside.

Towelroot only supports kernels that were released before June 3rd, so anything running Android 4.4.3 KitKat that has its stock kernel cannot be rooted by towelroot at this time. Keep checking though, I'm sure it will be available soon.
Alternatively you can go to Root Me and find easy to follow guides for your device there.
Good luck,

The kernel build date for 4.4.3 is March 18th. This includes 4.4.3 stock ROMs. And it is working on the Nexus 5.

I was unaware of that, just quoting what I have read recently, thanks for the information anyway!!!
This worked on my GPE S4. I had upgraded to 4.4.3 with the OTA when it came out a week or two ago and of course I lost root after that upgrade. My laptop's in need of repairs so I haven't been able to re-root. Towelroot fixed that for me.
However, I have tried twice on the Nexus 7 (16gb 2012 Wifi only) after upgrading to 4.4.3 with the OTA and so far that has not worked. Oh well. At least my phone is how I like it again.

I did check root checker and it confirmed I do not have root. I uninstalled the SuperUser app that was already on my N7 (it used to be rooted a while back.. I honestly don't even know how I lost it). Tried running towelroot again. Didn't work.
I noticed that the SU is listed as a system app and I'm wondering if that is causing the problem. I'll need to get a working laptop to do a fresh install and see if I can test towelroot out then.
i have another question , can i have a custom recovery like twrp even my bootloader is unlocked? is twrp manager apk works?

You can use a custom recovery regardless of bootloader status.
Bootloader can be unlocked once rooted using app from playstore and it doesn't wipe data supposedly.

Root Failure
I had attempted to root my Nexus 7 (2012) 16GB WiFi only running 4.4.3 KitKat with towelroot and it had failed.
All it had done after pushing the "make it ra1n" button was froze the screen, then after a few seconds rebooted. Nothing was wiped in the process and no rooting had occoured.
It was as if nothing had happened because I am writing this reply minutes after my Nexus 7 finished rebooting.

It worked for me however I was already on the 4.4.4 update, not sure that has anyhting to with it but just mentioning it. Did you Download v1 or v2 of towelroot, I think v3 is out now as well.
Here's what I did:
Download the latest version of TR
Install it like you would any other app, it's going to show as a virus or something, just hit ignore or allow
Hit the big Make it rain button, should only take a second or so
Download root checker, should say congrat's
Download chainfires SU from the playstore, it may say something about the SU binaries need updated, just reboot your device and you should be all good.

I have had my 7 since release and never rooted. Today I updated with the ota 4.4.4 update, then downloaded towelroot v3, ran it and it worked!! Awesome, anyway, what's the best way to get a custom recovery? Tried goo app from play store, and tried installing open recovery script, but it just sticks at downloading... Now what?
Never mind... Figured it out.

Would you mind telling us what you did when you gained root access? We have one report that ioroot + xposed prevents OTA update. Did you do anything to your phone after you gaining root access?
Which variant of the G3 is this for? nothing shows up on mine 16gb/2gb Euro version on v10a.
32gb/3gb V10a-EUR-XX also shows no update... (ioroot)
no idea, i got the v10e update but once its downloaded it says that my phone is suspected from being rooted (which it was)
mine is D855 16gb int. version..
i rooted my phone with towelroot + using xposed
from what im seeing ota works only with towelroot with ioroot not working
Also just got the update. Looks like it's brand new so we still have no clue about the changes except for Power Optimizations?
can anyone provide a screenshot of power optimization please?
thanks.
disabling xposed & root doesn't help. any idea?

If on the D855 you can follow the guide in my signature to unroot without wiping.
Might be a good idea to wait and see if they backported the 4.4.4 towelroot patch before unrooting and installing the OTA.
Witch root apps do you have?
Because it sais that I'm rooted and can't update. I have root explorer, cerberus and titanium

Verizon still on 10B... says no new update.
I have a D855 Euro version on O2 (v10a), have installed Towelroot (no xposed installed), but mine says that there are no updates available, im using the latest software version according to the update checker.
I haven't seen a clear answer on this, so does anybody know what root methods still work after the new update? If they all still do, is there anything I should do differently in the rooting process?
You have to wait till one of the methods gets an upgrade
BAD ASS G3
Well seeing as how the d851 boot loader is shipping unlocked from T-Mobile I think it would be pretty safe to say that once you manage to properly install the 10m OTA, you would simply flash TWRP from purpledrake in fastboot and from there flash supersu.

I used Stump root and mine is rooted again. I had to use the brute force root to get it done in Stump. After that I installed SuperU, TWRP and Busy Box.

Purpledrake probably replaced the M boot.img with the C boot.img. If it did that means your back on the C kernel and if it didn't you no longer have the modded disabled root checker.

Well rooting is really easy if you want to use vroot. Just search for vroot or iroot (an .apk that runs on your phone without connecting to a PC.) After you're rooted, just search through twrp threads on how to flash a recovery and unlocking your bootloader. If your bootloader is locked, you will end up bricking your device so be careful and do your homework first. Good luck
