C6502 failed OTA - Sony Xperia ZL

Hello everyone.
I had tried to update my ZL just now.
Well, I have to say that it didn't go well.
Here's my spec:
C6502, .101 Stock
Towelroot rooted, locked(Never tried to unlock), SuperSU(OTA survival on)
NUT dual recovery
Xposed framework--uninstalled legally through installer
Here's my sits:
100% battery, .230 OTA downloaded.
Then I OTAed it.
After reboot, things looked so ordinary.
SONY logo appeared with red LED lit(Well, in fact I do not know what does it stand but I guess it's because of NUT recovery)(Thanks NUT BTW).
Then, the cute lil' Android with a rotating polygon stuff in it's belly.(I guess its a pretty normal update screen)
Suddenly, after a minute or so, my screen goes black, and refuse to respond to any hard keys.
After an hour, I force-shut down it, desperately.
I tried reboot it ten mins later, and it booted normally, nothing bad happed, except a prompt says that it failed to update.
Well, I guess that's it. I gonna try to flash it days later.
But, I know there's a lot of great people here and you all may give me some sort of information so I can realize what was really going on.
Anyway anything provided is much appreciated.
Thanks for watching this thread. Hope you all have a great day!

Yes, I am using .101 now. It seemed that the attempt to update had failed but has left no bad effects.

OTA doesn't work if you changed some system app or recovery. For me it only worked with 100% stock.
Didn't test it with a non-modified rooted stock though.

[Q] To Root or not Root?

let me give you some background info. I have owned my (AT&T) glide for less than a month coming from a overclocked milestone with CM7. Almost everyday I turn my computer on I go to XDA and skim over the rooting guides and the custom roms available. And then I read the "Read Before Updating" thread that says ICS is coming and it puts me off again. Even though my phone is unlocked and outside of the US now, so I not 100% certain I'll get anything. Every day I also check for updates on my phone, force check and everything.
So my question to you guys is this: Shall I patiently continue to wait it out in the fruitless hope something may well happen in the next month or two or bite the bullet and loose the bloatware now? I'm sure its a question on the minds of many glide owners right now
I put CWM + Osimood on mine just to get rid of the US-Centric bloatware, and am liking the cleanness of it. As you're in the UK too one thing you might sway you is that Osimood is based on Rogers which allows you to switch off 4G to save battery.
Why wait? Once it's out, it's pretty good chance it will be available here (or samfirmware). If you waited, would you even be able to get the AT&T OTA update through your UK operator? I would think you'd have to be on the AT&T home network to get the OTA.
But then again, it would take Samsung forever to finally get the ICS out for the CG.

Agreed since you are not in the States and on the AT&T Network I would Root and install a clean Rom with no BLoatware. Then when we get the ICS you simply flash it.
Thanks for the replies guys
When I check for an update it does say it checks the AT&T server, whether its actually checking the AT&T server or its just a generic message and it actually checks my provider server who knows.
Think I'm going to bit the bullet and get it rooted today
Go for it! There's so much more you can do when you're rooted. I'll never go back.

More than likely both
Just rooted it now, (well halfway there) seemed pretty easy to do, at least easier than my last phone.
when you flash the rom over you you do it in PDA section too or another option?
Just gonna download super user, ti backup, and a few other root only apps, have a quick play then flash to something else

If you did Clock work mod the instructions are:
1. Launch odin (v1.82 tested)
2. Boot your phone in "Download mode"
3. Select PDA in odin and choose the file "CWMR_recovery.tar.md5"
4. ONLY "auto reboot" must be check !!
Then just put aradat's kernel via CWM and your rooted. That is what I started with. Now I just flash everything with CWM and no longer touch Odin.
Right all fully rooted up.
In CWM it asks what device and only gives the choice of epic 4g and i9000 I tried the later and attempted to back up my current Rom and got and explanation mark in a triangle and a droid on my screen. not much happened for a few mins so i pulled the battery and rebooted it.
Any idea which I should select?
Thanks for all the help BTW

Where does it ask you that? I did not get any prompts. I just went to flash from SD card and then chose the file I wanted to flash. Took a few minutes then the flash was complete and on reboot it took a little while in setting everything up and then I got the Google prompt for an account to use. Oh and if you say thanks feel free to use the thank you button.
Probably talking about the CW App on the Market (not supported, don't use it!)
Sorry for confusing you, not in recovery, in Rom manager.
Ive actually put mine down now and just spent the last few hours trying to root my girlfriend's HTC Sensation, which has been a bit more long winded.
Nice gl have fun!

i wanted to give thanks as i really appreciate the rooted stock ATT 4.1.1 ...... your super quick! I am up and running jelly bean now, and i still have my root... i had a minor issue of odin saying "pass" after flashing but my phone was stuck in boot loop untill i went into recovery mode and did a factory reset. Im not sure if that is normal or not but whatev it works great now
doing the same thing right now. i'm in germany so i'm not sure if that's what's causing the slow download speed 500Mbps link @ a convention center, but i'm at 416MB out of 617MB and very very very patiently waiting.
it's good to hear that you only ran into that small issue. i'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks!

First post here as well. I was rooted on stock, and this flashed flawlessly. Not 1 problem. Thanks!
ran the update, installed cwm and the phone works flawlessly minus one issue. gaming has become laggy. anyone else with studder or lag issues?
Aww man. It figures, I just finished flashing another rom like, about 18 hours ago. Now with finals coming up, I don't have time to do this one! Oh well, I guess I have something to do AFTER finals then, hahaha.

Is your power saving mode on? I've always found it makes so many things laggy, unfortunately. Might be enabled by default on the rom. Worth a look.
Great community here. Yesterday I was non-rooted ICS. Today I'm rooted JB with Wallet.
My phone just got 1000% better.
First of all, I appreciate all the Devs hard work bringing these Roms to us! :good:
I was running rooted UCALH9. Updated to this JB via Odin and all SEEMED good. Problems I had:
1) Play Store FC's - FIX - I went into Application Manager and removed updates for the Play Store app, which reverted it back to the default Play Store app. This fixed my problem. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT UNINSTALL!
2) Rom Manager - I would get root user authentication error when trying to Fix Permissions. Everything else in Rom Manager worked. No fix at this time.
3) Gallery - None of my pictures were showing up. This is even after clearing caches. I am convinced it's because I can't Fix Permissions, but what do I know... No fix at this time.
Any help would be appreciated!
Damn I had that same Play Store FC problem yesterday -- I wish I'd have figured that out. I ended up doing factory reset lol.
I receive same fix permission error as you, but I rebooted into recovery to do it.

You didn't happen to play with the camera at all, did you?
I can live with the Fix Permissions via CMW, so that would clear up 2 out of 3 of my problems. All I need is a fix for the Gallery problem, and I can go back to Official JB.
Thanks!
Howl long was the flash?
I'm inside Odin on flashing system.img.ext4 right now and it stays there which looks like about 20% for last 10 minutes with no forward movement.
How long do I need to wait before I consider something is wrong with flash process?
Changing cable to Samsung one did the trick if you are in the same situation.

If you are talking about flashing the root injected JB i post, yes you can flash it after upgrading and no it won't wipe anything in data, everything should be preserved for you.
Weather here sux.... Hovering slightly above 0 degrees with 80 mph winds for the last week so add on the wind chill factor and u can only imagine... And no snow yet.
So far no other issues with this rom. Seems to run perfectly. Now just waiting for someone to write a power menu options and enable stock tethering script =P

[Q] Xperia LT26i After "wipe all" i cant get in to CMW "bricked"?

Hi all!
[n00b warning]
First of all, im sorry, but i am a n00b, (as hard as it gets in flashing phones)
But i have searched all night and i dont seem to find anything that helpes me.
Some Days ago i rooted and flashed CM9 to my GF phone via CWM, worked like a charm, yesterday it was my turn.
[/n00b warning]
I first rooted (confirmd) and unlocked my bootloader (confirmd) and flashed CWM (confirmd).
In CWM boot mode i wiped all by the book in PAC thread. then when i installed the ROM is stoped on some error about LT26i string was missing.
Now to the stupid part: after that i rebooted the phone, and it just hangs on "SONY" i cant access CMW anymore (i guess the CMW start lies in ROM kernel on boot, and i erased it?)
and without CMW i cant try again, i cant recover old ROM i cant do anything...
BUT! the phone works on both BLUE (fastboot?) and GREEN (flash?) mode, so i can access it in SDK,
I have Another phone just like it, but no root or bootloader, with a broken screen but it works (cant se 2/3 of screen and touch only works the bottom 2cm) can i use that phone to get a hand on stock ROM or anything that helps me?
Please, can anyone help? or Point me in right direction?
Thanks in advance!

Try using flashtool to flash back to stock ftf.
This will wipe the data on your phone though.

This seems the best plan of action, flash stock through flashtool, you will sacrifice your data but at the minute you have a soft brick!!
This may be a silly question but have you tried a hard reset!!

Big thanks 4 reply!
I will try that!
all i need is to get the mirrors working, yesterday (and today) "uploaded.to" hates me, i cant download, all i get is a *.js JavaScript file and i I try again i already used my 3hour free slot, but i will try again.
data aint problem thus bootloader unlock already erased all (and i Think i did with CWM)
the only problem is i Think is that i deleted the phones boot file (am i right? still Learning here! =) )

Yes, hard reset (3vibes) is the only way to kill the phone so it dosent hang on SONY (built-in battery, cant kill it that way).
As i write the flash is finished with working phone!
I Owe you guys alot! Thanks!
No i will just start over with root and ROM! =)
Some trivia about Xperia S:
The Xperia S was a state-ot-the-art phone just about a year ago, Fast, all the good stuff and so on.
Now, as the flashtool and ROM was downloaded the battery in phone was dead, so i decided to switch batteries from the broke-screen-phone, and i saw something funny!
The whole phone (mobo) is only at the size of a SODIMM (laptop RAM module) and in that litte mobo its
*a computer with dualcore CPU and a pretty powerfull GPU
*3G network transmitter/reciever
*WiFi & AP reciever/transmitter
*true GPS reciever
*FM radio reciever
*NFC reciever/transmitter
*Bluetooth reciever/transmitter
*and so on
the Tech is pretty awesome today!

Touchscreen stopped working - reflash kernel fixed it

Hi,
Been using an Xperia M since Feb 22, and yesterday I experienced a touchscreen 'crash' for the first time: It seems as if no touch is detected. I panicked and eventually reflashed kernel and reinstalled CM (as per this) - problem solved (but lost data).
Just now the problem happened again and I reflashed kernel only, which fixed it.
I'm a noob, so what's going on here?
1) This is a software problem, right? Since reflashing kernel fixed it.
2) Is this some kind of problem with the CM build I'm using (see link above)
3) Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?
Thanks for any help!
Well the same thing happened again. Kernel re-flash did NOT fix it this time.
Does anyone have any idea how to prevent this from happening? And anyone who may be able to explain why this happens?
Thanks for any insights
EDIT: A few reboots later it's fixed again. (just reflashed kernel). The previous times rebooting did NOT help.
in deveoloper options have you set the animations and transistions and durations to 0 ? i found this caused my touchscreen on my old x10 running cm10 to stop working
Sent from my C1905 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No I haven't set those options
Ok, so, some updates.
I switched from PecanCM's CM11 build to FreeXperia (311), but the problem still happened, just a few hours back.
Maybe it's just some app that's not playing nice or something, but I have very few apps, and nothing weird, so I don't know what it could be.
Anyway, turns out that if I reboot the phone through Flashtool when the touchscreen is frozen, it FIXES it.
But if I "reboot" by removing and replacing the battery, or through SMS TASKS, this does NOT fix it.
Maybe this is useful to someone out there, and I'll post here if I ever figure out the problem
Well, maybe it's a hardware problem after all...
After about a million reboots, the problem persisted this last time. It even persisted after re-flashing boot, re-flashing ROMs (CM11 / FXP311/312, as well as Sony stock).
Guess it's back to the store...
Unless anyone else has any suggestions??
Thanks in advance.
Sony repaired the phone in 10 days, pretty fast!
They replaced a bunch of components, the touch screen and related stuff, so it seemed.
It's working now. Hopefully I won't have the same problem in 3 weeks.
As a final thought: Whenever the problem was "active" the touch screen also didn't respond in CWM recovery, so maybe that was a giveaway that it was NOT a software problem, but a hardware problem?
Thanks and hopefully I won't be revisiting this thread...

That's great. I thought that because you were giving your IMEI to Sony to unlock (at least with the official method), even if you relocked it they could still check.

Anyone else experiencing painfully long boot times after 4.4.3?

I'm on 100% stock. just rooted. the boot times are really long. I got really worried, so I flashed firmware and everything 100% back to stock. But the long booting times are still there. Just to be sure, I tried rebooting even before rooting (in case rooting was the cause :silly: ) but that wasn't the case. And yes, I have fastboot on.
Other than that, there is no anomaly, phone is working 100% fine, no overheating, no battery drain, nothing. I only had the phone for nearly a month before getting the update, so it might be just me not noticing reboots took this long before too?
Anyone else experiencing it?
Not sure if it's the same thing but I seem to have very long boot times now aswell. I was testing a GPE Rom for a while and went back to sense. Booting now takes at least 5 minutes. Just sits at the white HTC bootscreen until screen turns off and then it works fine. Going back to a GPE Rom seems to fix the problem
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Update your firmware and it should work. I have sprint so i was able to find the updated firmware through their forums. I originally thought they were bad flashes, but let it wait one time, it took almost 5 mins to load up. After I updated my firmware to the latest, it worked normally again with fast boot up. On a side note on 4.4.3 roms, I used to think my old bluetooth keyboard didnt work on aosp or gpe roms, and only on sense. Once I updated my rom to a 4.4.3 sense rom, the bluetooth keyboard stopped working on that too. Getting a new bluetooth keyboard today so I will test it out.

Same here. I don't think its a problem related to hardware or software. Just, the boot time is longer. Just that. It is a very huge relief to know that someone else is experiencing it too. I've checked everything I can, and there seems to be nothing wrong while it takes long to boot. It doesn't effect the usage at all too. It isn't a bug, just a little annoyance in case you like devices to speedily boot up.
@memekmek Did that too. I flashed firmware, and everything thoroughly checking my procedure. Nothing seems to be broken anyway, I just wanted to check if others have it too or is it me?

[I'm actually a 1000% noob in tech, and wrote only what I thought I was doing. I'm sure I must've been wrong. your reply just actually makes sense!]. I didn't want to ask each question on each step, and not bother with my lack of knowledge so I tried to write as much as I understood myself.
I guess it means that my firmware flash was a failure, and that itself is the culprit That clears out a million of my worries.
A little selfish favor to ask of you. Can you kindly direct me to any carrier-specific firmware download place (If there's any!). I'll check it whenever vodap001 firmware comes.
Thanks
