I've been lurking this forum long enough to know that those who ask redundant questions without searching will be shunned from any helpful answers. Lucky enough I've searched far and wide for an answer to this question. Is there any way to have a dialer that looks....different...much different from the stock dialer? The dialer that comes stock on the phone is so ugly and annoying to navigate in ways that I can't even describe in words. Then I came across the [attached] dialer and couldn't help but wonder HOW it's possible to get a dialer like this or similar to this. So clean looking, so simple...I am a total noob when it comes to android development, but I've done my time in searching for a solution so I wouldn't have to make a topic.
I understand this is from the Enoch theme for an old version of Cyanogenmod, but is there any other way to emulate such a dialer?
You could try installing the AOSP dialer..which is that one you have in the screenie minus the theme...

Thank you for this information!!! See, I wasn't even aware this was an AOSP dialer. I just tried to do my own research before asking, and the dots I connected were this dialer was something CM-related.
Okay not to sound like a total noob (even though I am), is it okay if I ask [in this thread], how would one go about installing this AOSP dialer? I'd prefer it over the one that came on the Evo.

If I can add to the question.
I am on CM6 and love it, in particular the AOSP dialer.
In case I want 4G, I may change roms.
Is it possible to have the AOSP dialer on a sense rom?

You can't get 4G on CM6? Or root? Or whichever it may be?
No 4g on CM6

OP, try out Dialer One from the market, you might like it. It's what I use, whether I'm running AOSP or Sense
I really love my AOSP roms, but to frank i hate the dialer. I love the dialer for sense. The feel is cleaner and the way it works is better. I like that i can type my contact name and the number comes up all in one screen.
Anyone know what im talking about:?
I believe there are dialers in the Market that emulate the Sense dialer.......
Try dialer one from the market

Yeah I tried that and wasn't impressed, I was hoping someone had a ported apk I could use

Am i the only person that prefers the aosp dialer and contacts. I think the sense one is ugly looking.

I'll agree to that, could use a face lift. But I like the way it functions better. I would love cm7 contact dialer more if it just worked the same way.

I do understand how you feel. I like to have my dialer display names as I type the first two or three characters. So, when I am on an aosp rom, I use GO CONTACTS EX, which includes an excellent Dialer that functions even better than the sense dialer.
I dl'ed this but have not tried it. Looks like something I would like if I ever went back to AOSP.

I actually posted the exact same thread months ago and while I appreciated all the feedback I to couldn't get one a really like and actually went back to a sense rom.
EDIT:
Just installed it with the new Team Blaze ICSmod7 Rom and this is definitely what I was looking for or at least as close as I can get it. Definitely switch to the dark theme IMHO but it works exactly like you need it too.
So I thought this might have been just me, or maybe just the ROM I was using but it appears to be more widespread than that. I've confirmed this on GummyNex, CM9 Kang (winner00), and AOKP. I've also confirmed this on my buddies GNex.
With the phone app open and looking at Recent Calls. Lock the screen, then unlock, the swipe the screen over to the dialer and attempt to dial numbers and in some instances it lags heavily. Other times it freezes completely and asks to Wait/Report/Close.
Anyone else having these issues? Any known fixes?
I mean, I could hit home, then re-open the dialer, but shoooooot.
Any help is appreciated.

I can't seem to replicate this bug on my gnex. Tried several times, but i can't get it to lag at all.
What Android version are you running? I'm on 4.0.2.
Bugless Beast ROM and no problem at all.
By any chance do these ROMs all have the modified dialer with T9 support? Than it's most likely a bug in the modified dialer.

Yes, all of them.
Running AOKP b23 now...
Turned off T9 in settings, rebooted. Works perfectly now with no delays. Thanks for the quick response and fix, it was driving me crazy.
I really like that functionality so I hope a remedy is released soon.
Cheers!

Does anyone want to form a team for MIUI porting? The ROM I have is working almost flawlessly, missing just signal. Everything else works (as far as I know). Anyone willing to help?
By the way, for helping me progress thus far, I couldn't have done it without xboxfanj. I'm a noob and am just getting the hang of this, hence, xboxfanj helped with most of this stuff.
MIUI is an awesome ROM allowing customizable themes that can change literally everything. You can change the status bar, lockscreen, home screen, and more all in just one app called themes. Plus, the ROM is super fast and has a lot of toggles, and much more to come with the help needed. Please, this ROM is one of my favorites, if you guys can help, it is much appreciated.
I can't help, but I'm curious as to what base you're using..CM or TouchWiz?

You are incorrect in your answer, it's already been done. So, my question still stands to the OP. As far as I know, patchrom currently only works with ICS however. Maybe you have sources beyond mine. Here's something to look into though. https://github.com/MiCode/patchrom

I'm sure. I edited my last post with some more info. I'm pretty sure the international S3 used TW as a base. Also, I'm sure that on the Evo 3D the MIUI is now using a Sense base.

i think patchrom is to build from the miui source and might use some things from say sense or tw to fix things like wifi camera etc.. idk but ive never heard of miui built with a tw base. When i had a Epic 4g touch they said we first needed a cm7 rom in order to begin making a miui rom.

ah i see actually he just bundled some apps from tw like back when i had a galaxy nexus they had a touchwiz theme that included the launcher and s voice and some widgets. he said that he wanted to add some sammy features to miui so he did lol see tw roms use a different framework and most apps wouldnt work on miui however some people have taken there time to port over launchers and apps and put them there roms.
its like the opposite of putting https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5taXVpLm1paG9tZTIiXQ.. on a touchwiz rom
They have touchwiz based miui on the international note 2, and the at&t note 2. I had it running on my sprint note 2 the other day, but was unable to get the radios to function properly. I had signal, but couldnt select the network I wanted it on and apns werent fuctioning properly. Miui v4 is supposed to be based on stock rom, not aosp, its just easier to port aosp than incorporate it into stock.

I used CM beta (before alpha 1). xboxfanj helped me get partial signal working. There was 3g at first, but then something about sim card activation came up, and then i pressed dismiss..and well.. that made me lose signal. After that I got signal but with emergency calls only.

Indeed we do have a starting point. However, I used the updated version of MIUI for the int'l model to port. It's literally almost done. Only flaw is signal as far as I can see at the moment.
If I remember correctly, aren't all of the Note 2's basically the same thing with the exception of the modems and Networks? (GSM vs CDMA?) Isn't the International version using GSM?

I had that issue before, but I decided to undo the changes and just stick to emergency calls only at the moment. However, I didn't use the aosp version. It's not as easy as just changing stuff. Once you do so, another problem will occur. It's so annoying >.< That's why I've asked to form a team. I have 2 others so far. Xboxfanj and lbxmobbin & they do great work. We're literally almost done.. But don't ask for an ETA, just know that it's coming VERY VERY soon.

1st question is, Are all the ROMs in the Original Android development forum AOSP ROMs?
My next question is, is there a TW ROM without the cartoony look, big buttons, and glowing bold fonts?
Thanks.

Download The People's Rom or Mother Of All Roms... Get Morphology (See thread in Themes section) Pick and choose how you would like it to be. if you don't like something.. Morph it again. Best thing to do. Just try a few out see what works.
Thanks for the response. I'll give "The People's Rom" a try.
Thanks.

No problem, we come here for the help.. and the cookies
in the OP of The People's Rom.. There's a Link for Morphology (current and working on that rom) grab that while your there. Theme it your way.. Enjoy it.. See the Team kernelizers thread in general section for Ktoonz tweaks for that kernel as well. (if you go that route)
I have "Tried" to write a wiki just for what you need. I went through and listed each individual rom and the base it was based off of as well as the Android OS it is from. from there you can go to each rom's page and see a screenshot (if the dev provided it) of each rom. I made this to save some time for new users.

check out qbking77 on youtube he tell u about some of the roms here and show u how to set them up.
I actually ended up with the MOAR ROM since it mentioned MB1. I installed that the other day and wasn't sure if I could use People ROM with it. But I am having an issue using MultiPic Live Wallpaper with this ROM. I have set 5 individual wall papers up but they don't stick.

I cant remember which rom it was i flashed a month or so ago but the dev took out the Live Wallpaper function in his debloating process. I am not sure if MOAR rom did this as well, its worth asking in his thread...

Hmm. Definatly post up in the MOAR thread. (MOAR and TPR are very similar so you can bounce between them with out too much issues) But def ask in there, I haven't personally used the multipic live wallpaper, so i couldn't tell ya. However, i'm sure it's something Team Noobz would help with.
I switched to People's this AM and the multi live wallpaper is working. I don't care for the built in dialer that doesn't return contacts correctly and switched to the Go Dialer. So far I am liking this ROM cleaner lines. I am wondering for the Google Voice integrated users if there is a way to remove Sprint's Voicemail. during the install I made sure not to install anything Sprint but it came through anyways.
