i just got my touch pro 2, it was used, but it was still new
it still even has the original plastic on the screen.
ever since ive had the phone though, everything on it is really really slow.
opening up a text, sending a text, going back to the home screen, opening up opera, clicking on the notification tab. EVERYTHING is really slow, or has some kind of lag to it. Why is this happening? What can i do to fix it?
This is really bothering me, and im about to trade for another phone because i cant take it. It takes me 5 minutes to send a text message, after i hit the send button.
ANY help is appreciated, thanks!!
First thing you want to check is which ROM is running on the device. Is it stock or a cooked ROM. Which version TP2 do you have? is there a carrier logo on it? The more information you can provide about the hardware/software on the device the better we can help you.
its the stock ROM. Original T-Mobile branded version. Its pretty much new out of the box it seems.
Since you just got it, and someone may have been using it before. i would suggest hard reset first off to remove any junk the previous user may have installed.
ok thats sounds like a good idea, how would i go about it?
(sorry for some of the questions i have been / will be asking, i just came from android to WinMo, so im completely lost)
1. While the HTC Touch Pro 2 is off, press and hold Talk/Send, End and Power until you see a message on the screen about deleting all data.
2. Release the buttons after the message appears.
3. Press the Volume Up button.

The T-mobile stock ROMs do not have push pages and as such I do not believe it makes use of the Dynamic Proxy.
I came from an Android device (briefly, in between my Wizard to Rhodium). The screen itself is different. This may be part of the lag you are experiencing. I actually prefer the WinMo platform over the Droid one, as it feels more responsive and stable to me. My friends however, who have the the G3 or iPhone hate my Rhodium...so again, I suspect that if, after hard booting your device, it still feels laggy, it may be the differences in how the screen responds versus a Droid screen. The Devs here could explain it in much better techie terms than I.
There is a thread here pushing for a Droid port over to the Rhodium, and I sit here scratching my head asking why. I truly believe that much of it is perception, mine being that Android just isn't for me. You may consider checking out that thread and seeing if the port over is any closer to happening.
In the meantime, I have heard that the Energy roms are quite stable and fast, so you may consider flashing one and seeing if maybe your response issues are handled. Be sure to read up on unlocking/flashing your device first so you don't brick it.
I'm sorry I'm not much help here. I do think though that perhaps some of the issue may be the screen...I could be way off base here too, though.
I am testing out the Dymanic Resource Proxy hack to see if it makes any difference to me. Will let you know what i find, so far idling at about 55%
update:
well, i went ahead and did a system restore, it was faster, but still not to my liking, so iwent ahead and flashed a ROM to make one final test. i went ahead a flashed energy ROM, and i have to say, i very much enjoy it now. ALOT faster, much smoother transition between applications, accelrometer works alot better, an overall greatly improved experience.
thanks to everyone that helped me!
one last question though, after flashing the ROM, my ALT key doesn't seem to work. Any fix? i would do a search, but im already typing a response, so i thought i would go ahead and include it here.

What are you talking about? How can you be so disrespectful?
I Have the tweaked 2.1 version now and I'm not satisfied, I want to know before leaving it hearing from others experiences...

Just flash it and find out. Someone may sing praises about one rom but your experience may be different. Then there is personal taste. Something only you can attest to. Just give it a whirl. I was never a huge fan of jedi. Great work, just not for me. You might feel different though.

No disrespect to the OP - but threads like these tend to be dangerous and often times lead to work for the moderators when things get out of hand. This doesn't always happen, but if I were a betting man and knew nothing more than the first post my money would be on it being trouble.
The reasons for this are what EVO-lution of Man stated - especially between those two it's a matter of personal taste (in other words both are fully functioning daily-driver type material in terms of the basic phone functionality and what not). When people start stating opinions, those opinions can be challenged, then a felt need for defending those opinions takes over and things get messy - usually anyway. It's all about what works best for you, and the only way to really know is to try and see.
That being said - if there is something in particular you are unsatisfied with in the current setup another option would be contacting those responsible for it (hi ) and see if anything can be done.

I didn't mean unsatisfied, I wrote it because I was mad with that guy at the beginning, anyways.. It is not that, what I was trying to say is that I see that jedi has more features, more new things. At least that's my impression, I might be wrong, any ways... I'm installing the tweaked 2.4 version now because it is the one I've always used.
I want to format my phone and now I have to figure out how to install it with the new system, it would be easier with a simple installer (I'm suggesting ).
By the way, I have an extra camera, how can I delete the new one? I'm good with the old one . (I'm saying the app u use to take pics)
Oh, I forgot, I'm not demanding, this is free! and it's your work, and I'm great full to you for the time invested thanks
All right end of the post, it was a stupid idea.

No worries. You very well might be right on the feature bit - Jedi definitely has features included that are not in tweaked (his kernel work, xposed framework, etc.), but there are likely a few the other way as well - as it should be as it would be a bit redundant if they were too similar That's not to say some of the features are exclusive to one or the other (using the above examples, ptmr posts his kernel separately and xposed is also something that can be installed separately) - just prepackaged.
I'm not sure whether either of these roms lack much in personalization, but I'll take the hit on the installer bit. I still like the idea, but it's a little different and that's not for everyone. That being said I redid much of the OP for 2.4 in order to address this, so hopefully the install process is a bit simpler looking now. And thanks to Alexea - there are a few more theme options around. I am in no way a themer, so one weakness on the tweaked side is definitely my reliance on others to take up the task and share their work. This does not seem to be a weakness on the Jedi side.
I take it you installed the aosp camera? That's the only way I could see you having two at least - if you want to get rid of the aosp one you can use the modificatinator. If you want to get rid of the samsung one you'll want to delete/freeze SamsungCamera.apk in /system/app.
Feel free to PM me if you have any other thoughts/questions/etc. - and I still think you should at least try Jedi. Personally I rather enjoy flashing things to try them out and see what they are like - and you very well may like it enough to stick with it. Of those who run stock modified roms, I think most use Jedi so it's definitely worth a look.

Well I tried tweaked 2.4 for a day and it was OK but I did not really get into it. Was going away on trip and needed something solid that I have used before. So I loaded Jedi master 16 and had so many issue with memory swap. Lost all. Oh well. Just look at last few pages of each and u can see what if any issues are in the rom. Now I gonna try tweaked but need to get hold of chef as to changing my kernel cause it did not do deep sleep at all. Maybe I missed something but need to try a diff kernel.

Sorry to hear tweaked didn't strike your fancy - what kernel did you pick? Safest bet is go with stock - not the sexy choice I know but it won't do you wrong in terms of stability.

+1 Im very happy with stock kernel running 2.4 Ive always seem to have very minor issues with the "sexy" choice....
I've been running the jedi roms since I've got my note and just switched to tweaked in the last few days. I really like them both a lot but I'm definitely liking tweaked a little more. The whole star wars thing was getting a little old for my taste but it was still a great rom. It's all gonna come down to personal preferences and that's about all there is to it.

Oh wow - well the more telling stat on that one would be the screen on time. That's a pretty harsh drop if you weren't using your phone, but if the screen was on for half that time then it's much less surprising. Assuming it was off more than on, there have been a few google apps (mostly maps I think) that have been reported to cause some wake lock issues which could be at the root of it - this would be much more the case if the phone was not deep sleeping (except if you enabled the zerowakelag bit).

Tweaked is killing it for me
dwitherell never mind bro... I installed the last version of Tweaked and it's running perfect, oh now that I remember, there is something I'd like you to try to fix if you can. When you hack the volume and you make a call, the other person can hear his voice twice, like an echo. And the volume hack is very important.
Respect to the installer, I did the standard when it first came out on 2.1 I think, and I didn't like it that way (but it was not hard at all... my sister could do it and she has 14), then for the 2.4 I used the simple version of the installer and I liked it. So, forget what I said about the installer. Besides... you can modify everything later.
Oh... this was my question at the beginning, if I delete the AOSP camera, I will delete the gallery as well, and I really like the app for the gallery (I don't use the stock one). Is there any way I can delete only the camera?
So... 2 things:
Camera and volume hack
That's it, and they are not even issues, they work great. Thanks for everything :good:

No worries
I've heard the echo bit regarding the volume hack. I'll have to add that to the list of things to revisit to see if I can chase down what edit in particular is causing the issue. Yay trial and error
Unfortunately w/ the aosp camera/gallery - they are both contained within one single apk. Unless there is a sort of fanciness out there I am not aware of (a real possibility granted) I don't think you can have one without the other. I'm not sure if they come up as separate entities in something like titanium backup - but if they do perhaps you could freeze the camera part and see what happens w/ the gallery end? Just a thought

I just got the LG G3 and love it. The phone is awesome, but theres just not enough reason for me to root at the moment. I know its new but I'll wait for more roms and other features to come out. I would like more themes. I really don't want to DL a launcher. I used Themer but apparently it gives me some kind of not compatible because of the resolution, something like.
I thought the same thing, but ended up rooting my G3 anyway.
Small tweaks using G3 tweakbox were worth it, such as removing carrier IQ on lockscreen, adding dedicated menu buttons on the nav bar,
showing ram availability in recent apps menu, etc.

to each their own but I have never owned a phone and not take root. Just being able to freeze/uninstall unwanted apps, freezing updates and doing minor tweaks is enough reason besides loading custom recoveries and roms.
Takes time so I don't understand why even make the thread?
I root it solely for fixing memory card problem.

This. I will say that I was happy without root until the microlag got to me. The force close of my google services was the last straw. I now have no lag on my device and have made it much better imo with the tweaks mentioned earlier in this thread. I really wish we had an AOSP rom for it though.
SD card issue, g3 tweakbox, viper4android, xposed.
That hsould be enough for you to root

G3 tweakbox is awesome app, I did the paid version.... (also needs xposed framework to run), I guess i need to research whats goin on with SD card...I assume to be the ext-sd card. Not sure about viper4andriod....I D/L'd and asked about updating drivers and choices were not very intuitive. I'm happy to a have TWRP and TiBu up and running as well.
having a choice of root or not....really is a no-brainer if you want to do any thing to your smart phone, otherwise why have it?
There's a thread for everything, so I figure I make one to see if there are others on the same boat. Yes, I would love to root my phone but I'm going to wait for a bit. I would love to see more developers working on more roms to get that "wow" effect. I've always root as soon as I get a phone but I usually get a phone thats been out for a while and to see tons of roms. This is my first phone that I ever had thats only been released in only a week. So I'm excited to see what comes out from these developers.
I personally like to root right away for the simple fact if I screw up I'm still within the 14 day return policy

Is there a list somewhere of what's okay to remove from the tmobile version?
Ive had many sprint phone's however I've had 2 cell phone models that I've rooted ever since i found it about it. An lg g3
And the one I'm posting with right now: s6
Ive noticed that for both (moreso with samsung) there is never really interesting mods or any real rom selection etc . How come this is? What's up with sprint specifically that makes it so difficult to customize/modify their devices? Im not *****ing or anything is just an observation . For instance there are tons of roms that include a lot of things I'd like on my phone but they are all compatible with every carrier other than sprint. Anyway of anyone had an answer or a path to lead me to ... that'd be cool. Hell, you can call me a dickhead and ill be happy

For starters there isn't as many devs for Sprint phones as there is for other carriers. Further more, Sprint is CDMA so making unlock mods like we did for the G3 is far harder. Not to mention just developing for Samsung in General is harder as they have more Anti-Root protection then say LG or HTC. We are currently working as hard as possible to bring cool mods and tweaks to this device... Sorry for the wait though

Also, don't forget there are oodles of Xposed modules you can use. I personally believe that is the main reason there aren't many mods/ROMs. I personally stopped developing ROMs because of this. Instead, I debloat and smali edit my own device to my liking, then write my own module to add the features I like. Before, I used to do smali edits, and make everything relate to one another. So users could add their own features, or choose the ones I built in. Nowadays, you can just install and uninstall the xposed modules you want. A lot easier for us developers. I also think android in general is getting more user friendly. They now have "theme stores" for users to apply a theme without root. I'm not sure what kind of "mods" you would be looking for that isn't already done via xposed or something else, but theming always seemed to be the biggest hit. I personally just theme my launcher.
However, there are some features from the S6 Edge I would like to have, so I downloaded the S6 edge ROM and may port it to our device.
TLDR: To simply answer your concern, I don't think development isn't there. I think its just easier for people to use xposed then fully mod an entire ROM and make the installer zip and everything like that for it.

Ahh that makes sense I need to go back thru xposed more thoroughly and how would i go about creating a module? That seems like something i would be interested in. And as far as mods go , im the type that ,even though I'm impressed with what i have i haveban insatiable need to make it one click better ( similar to the custom marshall stacks in the movie spinal tap that the volume dial went up to 11 instead of the standard 10, lol idk if you seen the movie or not) but mainly id like to modify the camera to a higher resolution and possibly include the ability to leave the shutter open as long as i want , those are just a couple of mods i would love to have haha i know I'm asking for an impossibility but those are the kind of ideas i come up with i just have no clue how to create such madness haha

I too want better quality from the camera. I believe that is needed by a kernel mod, or a .SO mod. The latter of the two is harder. But I want better slow mo quality, should be able to adjust bitrate, and maybe hopefully fps. But having the shutter open as long as you want, I like that idea! I may see what I can do. You can easily make the volume go to 11 instead of 10, but you won't get a volume boost. What I personally do, is use the mixer_paths.xml to boost the volume, then add more volume steps. On my S5 I had 20 volume steps for everything, and it worked great. Allowed for more minute adjustments, but still get the volume boost from the mixer_paths.xml.
About creating an xposed module, just look it up on the forums. Plus there are YouTube guides which tell you step by step how to do it. You do need to know Java coding though. Its extremely easy to learn though.

And I personally think I am very good with xposed and smali reading. I used to make ALL my mods through smali alone. I even wrote a "smali coder" that would translate java into smali without compiling anything. That tool though has long since been lost as well as its source code since I don't use it anymore. I now use Virtous Ten Studio for smali work cause of being able to link condition statements and stuff. Its got flaws, but it works. I will probably end up writing my own that way it does everything I would like it too.

We do, it's a CSC tweak, but you can only add tweaks like that if you freshly flash a ROM. If we have xposed, you can add it anytime without having to reinstall.
Come to think of it, could you do something like XTouchWiz?

It does, I just like the tweaks in it, I think it'll be a good base then we can make a specialized tweak for this device.

So why not just use xtouchwiz???? Lol.
So I have been in this modding android game for quite some time since I had an LG G3 and then I moved over to the Nexus 6 for about 2 years and some of these custom roms are just awesome but one thing I cannot get rid of properly are the inbuilt AOSP apps..
on the Nexus 6 a few years back somebody made a flashable zip that got rid of all of them and the boot animation but then fixed the boot animation being deleted and unfortunately time to change technology has changed and that doesn't work on this phone obviously.
I have tried using the magisk debloater and it just a little too complicated for me because I don't like having two of the same apps one being Google the other being AOSP and any other gaps package I flash besides the razorlove gapps fail when flashing a custom ROM..
I've tried using opengapps and I thought when flashing that package the AOSP apps get replaced with the Google version of them.
Would anybody mind listing what AOSP apps I can remove completely and I apologize if it's already on the thread but I didn't really see anything or maybe I just wasn't looking in the right place but can you guys help me out? I really like the RR ROM but the AOSP apps just bothered the hell out of me. I've tried using titanium to completely remove some of them like the AOSP Keyboard but it doesn't fully remove them and I don't want to go into the files that I don't know about and screw up my phone..
So right now I'm on stock and the limitations kind of suck so if anybody could you know help me out listing a method that they use to get rid of them that actually works or listing the ones that I can remove and what program I can use to remove them I do not want to disable them I want to remove them... Or because I know how to use Linux and what not you know maybe somebody could show me how to make a flashable zip that will remove them and I will gladly share it to the community but I'm looking for anything that helps.
It would be greatly appreciated!

You do realize that AOSP is not a single project like some rom developers, right? If someone publishes an "AOSP" rom, that doesn't mean that they are following some kind of standards or rules.

Well obviously but what I'm saying is pretty much every ROM that I flash seems to have the built-in apps that are AOSP based or maybe I'm not saying it right but basically every ROM that I've tried (dirty unicorns, Resurrection Remix, carbon, dotOS, sudomod,) all have built-in AOSP Keyboard AOSP phone AOSP calendar AOSP email **** like that and that's what I want to remove

A piece of advice. Get rid of your Pixel as soon as you can. It's a bug testing platform for Google. Samsung, HTC, LG, Oneplus take buggy Google code and refine it. Google doesn't bother.
I only keep this $960 piece of **** (which is now worth less that $300) because I have no other alternative at the moment. As soon as I can dump it for a real a phone, I will.
I'm good thanks I do my research before I buy my phones and I will never buy another Samsung again and dumping my phone is not an option right now if it was I get me the Rog phone from Asus that thing is a beast

I used an S9 for a little while when I was setting it up for a friend. It's a marvelous phone. I have owned multiple HTC flagships in the past, and they were stellar. I have heard that LG and Oneplus were excellent. My last phone before Pixel XL was Note 7, which was absolutely amazing, one of a kind. This pos Pixel XL has been nothing but bug ridden nightmare. The only reason why I keep it around is because of Project FI. It's because it's cheap. Goddamn $960 nightmare on top of that.
Also, please use punctuation next time. Not using it seems like an insult, but maybe that's just me.
I like my pixel XL. No bugs here.

Click on my profile and find new threads started by me in this subforum.
I believe every single new thread was me complaining about one bug or another.
The biggest one that is always on my mind though, and which is almost a deal breaker, was introduced by Google in the 7.0.2 update. And they still haven't fixed it, but all other manufacturers have - I know for a fact that this bug was fixed in Oreo by Samsung and Oneplus.
It's where you wear a smartwatch which can make and receive phone calls, such as my beautiful Huawei Watch with a gorgeous custom band, and then you get inside your car with a bluetooth hands-free car kit, or just a bluetooth headset, which then improperly connects to the phone as "Connected (no phone)." So you cannot use it. If you don't wear a watch, then everything works fine with a kit or bt headset. This is the reason why I don't wear my beautiful watch anymore. Google needs to fire their bluetooth stack programmer.

My bad. I use speech to text a lot and I don't like using punctuation when speaking. It causes some bad habits.
Update though, upon doing further research making a flashable zip is complicated but I should have it all figured out by the end of the week and I'm not really having any bugs with the AOSP apps I just don't like looking in my app drawer and seeing there's duplicates and I really don't want to manually hide all of them each time I flash a ROM or something and do a backup.
On a side note I just found a Chrome extension that allows speech to text and is very good with no ads. If you're like me and you use your voice more than you use your keyboard, look up voice in voice typing under Chrome extensions pretty damn simple.

A friend of mine made a script specifically for what you are trying to do, granted, it's for a different device and older version of Android. Some small modification should be all it needs to suit your purpose, if nothing else, it may contain some useful information.
The thread is located here (Keep in mind, he's from Brazil, so his English is a little rough =)

You are completely fine. I'm shocked how nice people are on here LOL usually people are just mean and think they have the right answer and I have to accept it no matter what and I just don't like people who are so full of themselves so thank you.
I've been trying to research this but I was supposed to have surgery today and I was getting ready for that and unfortunately it was cancelled without my knowledge so that was pretty stressful and now I have to start the whole process over again because the doctors I was going to go to no longer accept my insurance and nobody told me so I'm still going to work on this it's just going to be a little bit of a process.

As a side note, I am now in the same boat as you. I have a Oneplus 6 now, silk white, which is gorgeous. But it has double apps like yours - 2 calendars, 2 calculators, 2 message apps, 2 clock apps etc. I don't even really know which ones are Google and which ones are Oneplus - I think the round icons are Google, but rectangular icons are Oneplus. Plus I don't know which apps are better. I think that I will use some of them for a while and disable the least appealing ones.
There are only a handful, and maybe that's what you can do? Just disable? If you cannot disable from the main Android interface, you can do it from adb. There are commands that can disable and enable app packages from adb.
Hey guys I'm sorry it's been awhile since I've kept up with you guys. So a little side note
I have started this project it is my very first project on my GitHub.
But my problem is I have no idea how to even start this I mean I tried using the flashable zip creator and it pulled the system apps but I'm at a loss here any help would be greatly appreciated..
You can view the project at this link by the way
