Can I take an ota even though I have twrp installed? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will it brick my phone?
swagg blasted from Tmo LG G3

I imagine it won't let you. If you try it will recognise that you are not on a stock ROM or are rooted and will abort the installation and actually tell you that you are rooted so it can't continue.

[Q] OTA update wont install on E988

Hi im hoping someone can help here.
I purchased a second hand LG Optimus G Pro.
So far everything works fine.
Today I tried to do a software update it let me download it no problem when i click install after 3% it stops and comes up with an error then reboots phone after reboot it says suspected rooted phone cannot update root phone.
The phone was already reset when i purchased it.I also hard reset it after the first attempt and used all root checkers and they all say no root.
Anyone had this issue or is this phone still rooted?
Is it my bootloader unlocked? How do i check this?
Would updating on a pc work?
Any help would be appreciated.

Try recovering through LG PC Suite. Then You won't need OTA Update.

Sprint Galaxy s3 4.3 update failed with root

My galaxy s3 is just rooted nothing else no roms on it at all. My wife and I got a update notice this morning for our phones and we both updated them hers finished just fine and mine failed to finish the update. It was in bootloader and it said something failed and then it restarted the phone. I looked and I'm still on 4.1.2. So I tried downloading the update online and installing it in bootloader but the bootloader won't come up anymore for some reason. Anyone know of what to do? Thaks
I'm in the same boat.
Anyone want to help us out?
By any chance can you guys get into download mode? If so give this a shot:

I had the same problem, it seems the official update doesn't work if you have root/custom bootloader. I wound up manually updating with this, which allows you to keep root.

Just follow the instructions there, and flash on that version with TWRP, CWM, or any other custom bootloader you might be used to.
EDIT: Just make sure to backup your internal storage. At least for me, flashing this ended up wiping all of my internal storage, which thankfully meant only a little was lost since I keep all my important stuff on an external.

LG G Tab 10.1 Im stumped please help

Hello Everyone,
I have a VK700 and I totally screwed myself up lol.
So I originally had the device rooted, I dont remember how I did it, just that it was rooted a while ago.
So as some of you may know the Lollipop update came out and because I was rooted the update just kept failing at every try.
So after doing some reading I unrooted my device (not my best idea) and tried it again, only to have it fail again.
I was able to download the OTA update to the tablet and save the file to my pc in the hopes that I can somehow extract or make it flashable so that I could possibly root and then sideload or somehow flash it manually.
I have done numerous google searches only to find they don't actually show how to extract the files from the OTA update.
Any help is much appreciated, I would love to get this device running lollipop.
Also I have no clue on how to flash my recovery to TWRP or CWM and ideally I would like to so that I can make this process a lot simpler.
update
So I successfully re-rooted the device with LG One Click Root found on these forums (yay me)

Sprint lgls991 questions.

Just bought a G4 to replace my gs7 on sprint. Now i've already taken the ota for mm. Is there any root option for this phone after 5.1? The reason for getting this phone(still have the gs7 as well) was for rooting and custom roms since the s7 will never have any of that. It seems that the us sprint version of the g4 is just as locked down though?
Also after taking the mm 6.0 update there is a smaller ota after that wont install. just stays on the rebooting to install screen(not frozen or stuck, just not rebooting to install). So i'm wondering where it downloaded this file so I can maybe manually try updating or deleting it so maybe it can re-download.
Should I just take the phone back all together if I'm wanting something more dev friendly?
Im also sprint mm update locked down no root. And no possibility to downgrade to root if ure on zvb. Ure screwed. Get rid of it quiker than u bought it. Normally its kept in data fota. Or cache
I am looking to buy a Sprint G4 on lollipop - can the phone be rooted?

Get from Rooted Lollipop 13b to Stock Marshmallow

I'm tired of the problems and struggle I've had attempting to use my rooted G4. I'm currently on 13b rooted and it's been giving me problems. It randomly reboots and doesn't start up at times. And it's so sluggish. I've gotten a replacement because I flashed the wrong kdz. I just want my phone to work without all these problems. I just want to get to the stock Verizon MM for my G4. Is this possible?
You should be able to flash the MM kdz - they can be found here in the general section. Be sure to verify it is the correct kdz.
Keep in mind once you go to MM you won't be able to achieve root without downgrading back to LP. I think there is a downgrade thread here in general as well if you need it.

Thank you I just downloaded the KDZ and flashed via LG UP. It installed without any problems. I'm aware that you can't root on MM, I'm ok with that. I need a break from rooting after all of this. Thank you I appreciate it!
Glad to see someone here not happy with rooting the G4. I don't find it worth the risk or the benefits worth it without the ability to flash custom roms. I've never rooted a phone without there being a way to install a custom recovery.
For anyone interested, The Android Central podcast discussed the topic of rooting and flashing roms a bit on their most recent episode. Most of them agreed that there isn't as much of a need anymore to root and flash roms and that it's kind of died down a bit. Features that people used to have to root their phones for are now available on most stock roms.

i know at the end of the video it says close the app, but dont, just start it and you be upgraded to MM in no time just make sure upgrade is checked
if you want to start fresh, then you can just do what my video says to get refurbished checked
if you upgrade with a rooted rom you have to factory reset your phone inorder for MM to boot
