No SENSORS input at random - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

well,
I got this strange issue:
at random, my tablet stops using sensors. I see it when I try to turn it to horizontal position from landscape - it doesnt turn the screen. Then I go to this little nice "sensor test" program I downloaded from googleplay and I see all the sensors at 0 ! I see orientation, accelerometer, magnetic field, light and gyroscope all on 0 and moving, covering laptop doesnt do nothing. Only reboot makes difference.
Do You think it could be the software (like custom kernel ) or hardware related problem ? Anybody had this ? I got unlocked Nexus 7 2013 32 Gb (no LTE), using standard rom 4.4.3 but with ElementalX-N7-2.10.1 kernel + boot-ts09-lock.img used for screen touch-related issues.
I was using this setup without any problems (except "standard nexus 7 2013 screen touch problems") for some months, month ago I clicked to download the update from google but it didnt install (most probably cause I got custom kernel/unlocked bootloader), still there were no issues till 2 weeks ago...
Any help appreciated !

[Q] (Q) Screen Brightess

Hi All
I have a Screen Brightness issue with Note 2 - I did search the forums and Google (for several months now) and have not found a solution.
When I bought it, it was very good. Now the screen is very dark even on MAX brightness. It's not unusable, but compared to "NEW" note 2 or note 3 it's super dark.
I put it side by side with LG G2, and the difference is 3 times (visually).
I tried the app, i tried different roms (stock and AOSP based) nothing seems to work.
PS - I had same problem with two original Note 1 phones.
Is it the samsung screen tech that gets dark after 6 month or just my phone? What can I do to fix this?
PS2 - every now and then, when I reboot the phone, it gets to NORMAL brightness for a split second and then goes dim again. So I know it can be normal!
UPDATE: So I tried to change BUILD.PROP settings - added "ro.lcd_brightness" with 340 setting and increased "ro.lcd_min_brightness" to 175
When phone reboots it gets brighter for 15-30 seconds .. then dims again.
Running latest OMNI ROM nightly now.
Thanks, Leo.
Having somewhat of the same issue.
I looked into it. Samsung uses LED whereas lg g2 is LCD.
I'm getting the G2 soon.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

Broken accelerometer/orientation sensor

My z1c has an accelerometer that is broken. This means auto rotation doesn't work for example. Sometimes i can get it working by calibration and/or restart, but after a while the sensor will be off again. I'm testing with the app "android sensor". At the moment the sensor is stuck as if I'm holding my phone horizontally.
I'm running latest software, 14.3.A.0.757
Since i bought it while travelling in Thailand (not the smartest, but my old phone broke, so what to do..), I'm trying to see if anyone here has experience with this, before contacting Sony.
As far as my searches go, i have not been able to locate this as a known problem.
My accelerometer works perfect i have my phone since sunday. Maybe you should perform.a factory reset if that doesnt help its defenetly hardware issue.

I got the same problem. Bought it about 9 months ago in Uk. Since few months im on .108. I don't think that firmware is a problem coz it starts about 2 weeks ago. Accelelometer stop working every now and then. Reboot helps but not for long. Gonna contact o2 as still have warranty.
guys i have the same problem with my z1
seems like some software problem ..
because if the hardware is broken it would not start working after restarting
did any of you , opened your phone for replacing or something?
I had this problem too. All sensors would stop responding and give no readings in the service tests. A reboot would fix it for a couple days but the issue would always return. At the time I was running a 108 rom that I had downloaded from this forum, Russian I believe. Recently PC companion told me I had an update but the version was also 108. I did the update without wiping data and I haven't had the problem with the sensors for about 3 weeks.
Still not sure what caused it, it didn't start with my first loading of 108, but some time after that. My best guess is that some app hosed something up and a software update fixed it. Hope it doesn't come back.

Just rebooting the phone worked for me

Same here. I believe that the problem started when I changed my screensaver to one of the animated backgrounds with planets on it. On a first run it would work and rotate the planet render in the background when I tilted the phone. The next day it stopped working. I mean, the screensaver was on, but it would no detect orientation from the gryroscope. The screen also stopped autorotating when playing YouTube videos from the app, the compass app wasn't working and so on. I installed a few small sensor monitoring applications and all of the gave me no readings for the accelerometer or gyroscope sensors. Some other sensors were disabled, such as proximity, illumination level detect and so on. I was afraid that the accelerometer could be broken from humidity, pressure or a small drop that happened, but these small incidents could not explain the problem by their own (specially since the Z1c is thoroughly tested against all of these). I thought of maybe a faulty motherboard construction or whatever and starting considering the possibility of taking it back to the store for the guarantee, but before that I googled and came along this site and a couple others.
I fiddled a bit with Android menu config. settings but to no avail. I completely discarded the factory reset advice (that's SO crazy!).
When I rebooted the phone (no reset, just a regular off and on again process) all sensor readings were back on. I still didn't have the chance to check whether the problem might come back in a few days or not.
The cause may or may not be on the planets screensaver app. I also used Google Earth, YouTube and a few other apps the day sensors stopped working, but none of these gave problems in the past.
Fingers crossed for this issue not reappearing.
Hello everybody on my Z1 accelerometer compass gyroscope and light sensor does not work! any help please?
Yesterday I've had the same trouble, screen orientation stopped working. Apps using the acceleration sensor stopped working (Google Sky i.e.)
First I did a factory reset without any change, still no function. As I still have warranty, I wanted to prepare the phone to send it to Sony for repair. So I switched the phone off, removed SIM and SD (what I haven't done before) and switched it on again. Then I did a factory reset once again and here we go the sensor went back to work.
Probably the factory reset is "deeper" if there's no SIM and SD card in the phone? Who knows.

[Solved] Sensors not working

Hello,
my wife and I both have a Pixel C because it is very convenient for surfing etc.
Yesterday I realized the ambient light sensor on mine stopped working (adaptive brightness not working) and today on my wifes Pixel nearly all sensors stopped working (screen rotation, compass, ... not working).
Using the app "Sensors Multitool" on her tablet I only get those menu entries: "Battery", "WIFI", "Light" and "Distance" (translated names from german). Those are all working.
On my own Pixel I get many more (e.g. Gyroscope, Acceleromator, ...). Light and distance are shown but both receive no useful/no values from the sensors. All others beside of those two are working.
I already tried to factory reset and wipe cache on my wifes tablet - not working
Any further ideas? To me it sounds like hardware defect on both tablets..
There was an update to the secondary processor (EC) code with the Feb OTA, so its possible that its a software glitch - assuming you have updated. Judging from the current known issues, there seems to be some source of variation which makes testing some of this software tricky...
I flashed the old version (6.0.1 (MXB48J)) but sadly it didn't work I guess this also downgrades the code for the EC? Any further ideas? Looks like we've got to send both of them back for a replacement....
Flashing the latest Android N Dev Preview fixed the sensors for me!!
My wifes Pixel got replaced without any problems So everything good from our side.

Intermittent WiFi and dead sensors!

Hi, I have nexus 2013 with Android 6.0.1, since this update and issue came all along and I don't know why!
My WiFi, is intermittent, it disconnects and reconnects all the time
All my other sensors are not working anymore, like auto rotation and gyro
screen sometimes is not being responsive, unless I turn it off couple of times
is it a software issue or my unit is dud? it used to work perfectly for couple of years though.
Yup same here!
Ditto on the rotation working intermittently. Works for a minute after restarting then stops working until I reboot. My wifi is solid though.
I am having the exact same issues as OP, doesn't matter which rom/stock.

I'm in the same situation but I'm not using stock rom. I'm using a custom RR Nougat Rom for almost 2 years, everything was working nice until this happened. WIFI either stops entirely stops working or works intermittently, and auto rotate doesn't work. I downloaded a sensors app from play store to see if they were actually working or not, to my surprise it says no sensors detected. I panicked and did a hard reset, and then it stucks at bootloop (can't get past the four dots, may be the ROM can't find sensors). Flashed countless custom ROMS, stock rom (6.1, 5.0), but still no dice. But then when I was about to give up, I thought I would give the stock rom 4.3 a final try and magically, my nexus successfully boots up with all the sensors working perfectly. Then I re flashed the custom rom back to my device in which all the sensors are working fine (ORIENTATION, GYRO...).
So may be go back to STOCK ROM 4.3 and then see if the problem persists. I see a lot of 6.0 people are facing these issues.
Good luck!

Redmi Note 8 Pro Gyroscope Problem

As some of you guys might already know Redmi devices have Gyroscope issue but it get fixed with Calibration (in my case temporarily)
previously in Android pie, while playing pubg Gyroscope was working fine with no issue, but i had the issue with my gyroscope while charging where my aim was moving on its own even on a flat surface. but it used to happen while charging only (& my Gyroscope setting is always on with 190 sensitivity just for the info)
And now in Android 10 it happens after every 10, 15 minutes doesn't matter how many times i 've calibrated my device but it never get fixed permenantly.
But I know the temporarily solution:
About > All Specs >Tap 3 times on kernal version > Press on the top right corner & go to additional tools
Acc Calibration Tool:
Accelerometer ( not all values are zero) just calibrate your accelerometer, & your device should be on a flat surface
Gyroscope Calibration Tool:
Gyroscope (all values are zero but some are in (-ve) zero don't know why ?)
Calibrate Gyroscope - also device should be on a flat surface
check your Gyroscope issue with 'Compass app' and values should be constant on a flat surface
You can also use 'Gyroscope Test App'
in my case:
mine only gets fixed after calibrating and waiting for 20 seconds at least. i use Gyroscope test app to know whether my Gyroscope issue is fixed or not
and mine never get fixed after device reboot.
seems like this is the Hardware issue. i tried to hard reset changed rom to miui 12 came back to miui 11 but the issue is still there.
and calibration is the temporarily solution for me until i don't reboot my device.
didn't tried custom rom yet.
Did any of you guys have the similar issue, or any of you know how to fix it? Please Help!
Strange seems like no one is facing this issue
I am facing the same problem from past two days on my redmi note 8 pro . It can be fixed temporarily by rebooting the device . But after opening CIT by tapping kernel version my accelerometer is not showing anything it's blank

Sorry to say that i cannot help ??
Facing the same issue. Screen doesn't rotate, accelerometer and gyroscope values are blank in CIT
On a steady table using the built in level function in the compass app was showing 1 degree (table not perfectly flat) for a couple of minutes and now it`s changed to 2 degrees and has been showing that for over five minutes, The only problem i have had is if i am on the home-screen in portrait mode with the phone on the table and click on my browser (opera) the screen will change to landscape mode, Then if i lift up the front of the phone the display will change to portrait mode, It does this with a few apps and it can be a pain, I could download a screen rotation all to fix the problem if i needed, So no major problems and i am not phone gamer, I prefer my 360 or PC
i hope this work for you
If your gyroscope is temporary work after restart you can fix it with my guide:
1.restart your device
2.open the cit test (multiple tap on kernel number)
3.calibrate your gyroscope in flat surface and make sure your gyroscope is still active
4.follow the other sensor calibration until you complete the compass calibration .
4.you can exit cit and check all your sensors
note:do this as fast as you can

:::my note8 pro also has same issue
i also tried all the tricks, calibration and all stuff but it only worked temporarily. if i place my phone on flat surface, it stops moving for some minutes but starts moving again.
i even tried changing my miui version from global to indian varient but the problem is still on. these days when i press the phone on top left corner, the gyroscope moves even more faster and when i press it around middle, it starts moving in opposite direction but never stops. somewhere i have hheard that this may be due to hardware issue, because of heating.
