I've searched the forum and have read about the issues others are having with GPS however my issue is completely different then what everyone else has experienced. I've already ordered a new phone from Rogers but I am so mind boggled with what is going on that I needed to post and ask to see if anyone can explain this.
Carrier - Rogers
Model - D852 (Interesting to note, although the sticker on the phone/box and software say D852 the engraving on the plastic components under the battery cover say D850)
So the phone sees the GPS satellites however will not get a lock on at all. I have high mode accuracy enabled. The GPS icon in the status bar stays light grey and in navigation just says searching for satellites. I downloaded GPS Test app and it shows that it sees satellites however will not get a lock their either. I've even tried going into the LG secret menu and test the GPS from their, same problem. I've done a factory reset and it still didn't work.
Is this just a plain old hardware issue or am I missing something?

I've already done one twice. Event tried switching from Dalvik to ART and back.
Try switching off all location services. Reboot your phone then switch them on again.

Go to location in settings and select gps and network for gps. Maybe you have only network selected and gps wont lock any satelite. I tried to selected only network and gps dont lock.

I got the normal S i9000 (quite confused with all those different ones lol)
I tryed the fix posted on the vibrant page, but it only made mine worse. Keep in mind it actually was decent before, google nav worked ok, but sometimes jumped around.
Also didnt get more aqurate then 80 feet in the test app.
Now, i tryed following this guide isntead:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/128026-everyone-who-having-gps-problems.html
Now i get down to 16 feet, and locks on quick. It also seems ALOT more stable on the signal.
interesting skyhook is off? on that setup, wow
With skyhook on, it is very fast at my mobile..
Where do you come from? Maybe it has sth todo with the country where you live..
I am in Austria..
This DOESN'T have skyhook turned off. Why don't people read a bit more carefully instead of starting a new thread for no reason?
The only thing this guy does it turn the supl settings to autoconfig, and also have skyhook on.
The settings he lists are the default settings, that's why you see skyhook off.
This method has been posted many times before, and for most people it does nothing.
Yep skyhook is on. Well just wanted to post it

did anyone try to turn dynamic accuracy off ? it seems to me it's more precise now.. could be another 'magic' fix

Followed the steps provided in the first post.
No thorough testing yet. I just went outside my house and GPS works almost instantly. I used to get 8 satellites in view but now I have 11. I'm surprised.
I'll go for a drive tomorrow.

Hi,
I am on stock Kitkat and ever since the update, GPS has been behaving badly. GPS is showing a wrong location in google maps and also in whatsapp share location map. It was working well before the update. Anyone else facing this issue? How to solve this. I am on stock Kitkat and not rooted.
I had that issue with ingress, I flashed the latest g3 rom on the development section and the GPS is much better
Update: Infact, the GPS is not working at all. In the GPS option, if I select location based only on GPS signal, it didn't work in any GPS based apps. Tried a GPS test app too, no response. What should I do now?
Having the same issue here. Originally though it was the Google Maps app, but the GPS Test app fails to acquire satellites and shows status as "No fix".

Then make sure that the highest accuracy mode is selected
This worked for me after having the issue that kept saying waiting for location when trying to pinpoint my current location.
There is a WiFi network "BrokeAsDancer" that shows up on both my phones. Rooted N3 and stock S5.
My PC picks it up at home but on our phones it shows always nearby and full strength no matter where we are, including another state.
Anyone ever see this issue before?
have to tired ? restarting your device?? may be it helps

Its because either you have connected to that network before knowingly or unknowingly and it saves it in the phone, so when you are in range you can connect it again. You can get rid of it by long pressing that network and forgetting it as og.blaah said. Even if you restart your phone it won't go away, you have to manually "forget" that network. Hope it helps.
I've never connected to this network and it shows up as full signal available on multiple phones in every location I'm in. Its been doing this for over a year. Anyone that comes into contact with this network (as in, in range of) gets this problem
If it was on both phones in multiple locations, and one phone was stock, its because of some app you're using, only reasonable explanation
No apps. Just switched ROMs didn't install anything and same issue. No common 3rd party between the two phones. It is a mystery
I'm on a 5.1 ROM but the GPS has always been complete crap on every single Samsung phone I've ever owned.
Without a cell connection GPS takes forever to lock, or simply doesn't.
Right now I'm in China. The following three screenshots were taken at the same time.
Stuck behind the Chinese firewall that blocks all things Google, Googlemaps can't get a lock.

GPS Status gets NO satellites.
Baidu Maps got an INSTANT "lock" the moment I opened it. I think it might just be a cellular triangulation lock or something since GPS Status shows zero satellites.
What the hell????
Is there some device driver that I can download for the GPS chip that allows it to actually get a lock? I've also noticed that when I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no data reception the GPS fails miserably in getting any kind of lock.
All it's good for is burning through your battery as you wait for a lock that never happens.
Maybe it's Google maps? Might also want to try an app called 'faster gps.' The problem with running aftermarket Roms is that you never know if it's the rom or a problem with the GPS itself. I for one, have owned many Samsung devices and never had problems with GPS, but I have mainly stayed with TouchWiz. That's what I suggest you give a try if with the app it still doesn't work
Try using the latest OFFICIAL firmware for T-Mobile variant Nk2 in a stock form, then test your GPS if it works then you'll know it was the unofficial 5.0 lollipop causing the problem.
Then you can decide;
Stock reliability.
Or
Custom unofficial caketup rom unreliability.
Pp.

My phone went like this last night, and it hasn't came back on again, my phone was on low battery last night and it went into extreme power saver, I don't no if this is just a coincidence or not but I'm lost here
never seen that before. id turn it off, take the sim card out, clean it, re-insert and see if that does anything. Otherwise call EE and check their isnt an issue with the account?
edit: you havent turned on airplane mode or something have you?
I'd also try to change different APN settings. I'm guessing only mobile data is affected and wifi works fine?
I don't no what has happened but I use that phone code *#*#4636#*#* to change it to 4g, and it reconnected, hopefully it's a one off issue and I'm not being locked out

P6P has its issues with data and reception. Lot's of complaints about low reception / low voice quality with low reception and slow data transfers (wifi isn't unheard of either but less problematic). I think it's been improving with software updates but mine still a complete pile of **** in terms of reception and phone call quality.
Try a hard reboot, if that doesn't work a network reset. On Samsung's it's called SIMtoolkit, clear its data as well; it will rebuild itself.
