My GPS acts up in NYC area. This is on issue on every ROM. My google maps recalculates frequently, not keeping up with my vehicle on local streets and changes directions often. I've tried Waze and had similar issues. Google maps even tried to send me down a one way street once.
This happens mostly in the city areas. I previously moved from the state of Delaware where 4g is very limited but gps ran fine. In NYC LTE is everywhere even tho its very slow.
Is this sprint crap network or could there be something physically wrong with my note 2 ?
Any suggestions are helpfull.

Very interesting. I assume you are on a stock ROM correct? If so then if you haven't already, try updating your prl and profile in settings\more|\system update. Then manually restart your phone. You need to get in a location that is clear from obstructions to cellular signals when you do this. If you are downtown with buildings all around you then I would suspect it would have an effect on signal strengths and the ability to keep a reliable connection to data service and GPS... which also relies on data service. If this doesn't help then I would suggest calling Sprint and ask for tech support.
Have you tried the GPS clear data?

Thanks for the replies. I've done the updated the prl and profile many times. I even some to sprint all they offerred was to credit my bill 82 percent.
I will try to clear the GPS tho. I've never heard of this method thanks.

Hi
Has anyone been able to get there epic to force roam using roam control on any of the new ext 4 roms.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Works for me using nebula rom and ext4.

I swear I was on that rom yesterday and it didn't work. Ill give it a try. I know for sure I tried super nova, cm6, and quantum and all 3 didn't work. Btw I'm in aguadilla PR and my wifes EVO is working fine using the roam control here. Fyi if your coming to this part of PR roaming is a must to get the best 3g.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
It was my understanding that at least with roam control on the epic, you can only get a 1x forced roam. Roam control only uses verizons towers. The best speed I get while using rc is 150kb down.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Here in aguadilla PR you actually get true 3g roaming 800kb. When im not roaming im lucky to get 60kb.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I just tested it working fine on mine, Quantum Rom 2.7 EXT4
I used to use it. No, it isn't verizon only roam. My phone roams on to us cellular. To figure out what network you're on, dial a number that requires an area code without it and the message telling you that you misdialed will tell you the carrier.

When I press *2 to contact sprint customer service at my house it connects me to verizon customer service. You might wanna try the same to see what carrier your roaming with

Strange why I can't get this to work. Everytime I set it to roam only I just lose the connection completly. Anyone get this working on supernova rom?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I just got it on my stock DI18 rom and it works beautifully! Sprint sucks in my area (I'm lucky to get 1 bar and dl speeds at dial up speed), but now I'm listening to pandora and browsing xda! I love this app!

I've been using Roam Control since the day it started supporting Samsung phones. It has consistently worked for me regardless of the Rom, kernel or filesystem I'm using.
I'm in the middle of a cinder block building with NO Sprint service...Works great with Nebula ROM, except for texts? Internet and e-mail are fine, 3 bars. I stream stream on-line content without a hitch...can't send or receive SMS. No clue why.

Guess ill have to odin to stock and work my self up to find the source of the problem.

So guess what.. I'm back in nyc and roam control works fine here!! and I didn't change my rom. So it seems that you can't force roam everywhere on the samsung epic for some reason. I wonder if it has something to do with the PRL. And the thing is when I was in Aguadilla it would roam on 3g but of course only in automatic. So one would think that the PRL is ok. Anyone else in the west side of Puerto Rico near Aguadilla try using roam control with there Epic.

Roam control works great here...blazing on VZW EVDO. I use it all the time with the mess they have here on EVDO...50-60 kilobit if you are lucky on Sprint.
I tried out roam control and it seems to work. The phone seems to switch and everything but cant find a signal and I just get the no signal icon. Any ideas?
I still can't get 3g speeds while using roam control. At my house I get a more consistant signal with roam control on however my download speeds never get above 50kb. When I get a sprint signal I get 600kb+ When I purchased the app I was told that it only accessed verizon towers and would only get a 1x signal because sprint doesn't have a 3g roam deal with verizon. However people are saying they are getting 3g speeds from vz towers using roam control.

How do you know if you are roaming 1x or 3G, for some reason on my epic I am getting about 120kbps download on roaming with 4 bars and it says 3G?

Download "Mobile Signal Widget" from the market and it'll tell you whether you're connected to to 1x or 3g. I'm currently roaming on 1x, but at least I'm getting (good) signal at my house!
Is everyone getting voice and internet at the same time, my coworker said sprint wont let me cause his evo cant, but mine works the 3g dissapears when in a call so I just tab down and hit 4g to google and talk at the same time
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
4g allows you to do this not 3g. But from what I have heard with the network upgrade will be able to do this....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Never tried it but I'm curious, does the GPS work while on the phone or is that considered data?
GPS works with a call - not sure if it's still streaming data or working off extended cache.
I was on a call and got into my web browser while on my bluetooth to test it out - works. Pretty sweet
Sprint and VZ's implementation of 3G does not allow 3G+data at the same time. The technology supports it, the carriers have chose not to implement it for whatever reasons.
Use can use voice+data on Wifi and 4G because they are separate from the CDMA radio.
Also while using GPS, the software sort of "reads ahead" when it comes to the streaming of maps. However, if you are on a 3G connection while using navigation, when you switch back to the navigation software while on a phone call, you will find that the phone will continue with directions for a minute or two, and then the map will go blank, even though the location will continue to move, as the phone has GPS location, but no maps to tell it where exactly you are.
Hope this helps
^^ This right here.
Hi guys. Simple question here:
Always thought it was strange but never had the time to check if it was actually a Apple service only. Is it possible to obtain "My Location" through Google Maps app or Latitude, whatever, only with 3G on. I mean having Wi-fi and GPS disabled, wasn't it supposed to 3G be enough to obtain my phone's location?
Yesterday my brother who owns an Iphone4 did it and i thought "how come i never couldn't with my xperia arc"?
Is it any wrong configuration on my phone, or a google configuration or is it just a service xperia arc/xperia/android phones don't have?
Thanks.
Google Maps - works over GPS or 3G(HSDPA,EDGE)
Latitude also can work like one above..
But, if you have wirelles, and GPS disabled...accuracy will be around 300-500m.
while GPS accuracy is 2m
I always use Google maps with the data switch on. I usually have the GPS switch on also. Using just the mobile phone tower to use google maps doesn't accurately represent your true location, only the closest mobile phone tower the phone is receiving the signal from.
I have done this in the past, meaning using Google maps while using only the mobile phone network, since my phone at the time did not have built-in GPS.

No problem, try it and let me know.
P.s (sometimes it takes longer to get your location max 1-2min)
So meaning that something is wrong in my phone. I have it updated and non root. I have 3G (HSDPA) on and the phone is unable to obtain "My Location" and asking me to turn wireless or GPS on. What can i do to fix it?
but do you have 3G MB packet (pay for 200mb or etc) or you have flat internet on phone like me?
I have a 300mb per month subscription. Is there a difference here? The 3G or data connection isn't the same in both cases?
yes, but sometimes if you run out of MB Packet this wont work, i dont know why.
I have to go now, when im back i will find some app to test your phone (market seacrh)
Till then, have a nice day
Everything is working now. I needed to check in the location configuration the use of wireless and data connection to obtain position. LOL My bad! Thanks for all the help anyway! Cumps
Glade to hear that
Does anyone know what this is and why it could be failing constantly? After I get the message it fails, I can't even go into the browser and accept the terms and conditions like you normally would to get internet. Kind of irritating, since I rely heavily on wifi connections for data since I no longer get good service in my area (I used to get full bars) I've only been able to use Google wallet once due to the poor service.

I have the same problem. It works fine with my home network, but not in my office. I can't control that network. Another colleague with the AT&T Galaxy S3 doesn't have any problems connecting to this network. Seems to be a Sprint problem. Even the message that pops up has a Sprint logo.
what worked for me is to turn off the sprint connections optimizer. Everything works a lot better now and no more errors for me.
I'm sort of troubled at the moment with my L710. I believe it to be Sprint's network that is causing problems, but here goes...
Monday my phone was operating perfectly fine. 4G data and was running my PC off of the tether. Tuesday, I could not get 4G anywhere in my apartment even when placing it exactly where I had it Monday. Today, I have intermittent data issues. Even with 4G showing present with maximum reception, there are times where I cannot load Facebook updates, XDA app, browser, or anything revolving around data use. Is this Sprint's doing or am I just having bad luck with my ROM?
Started on LiquidSmooth 2.9, continued on Dandroid. Remains present on CleanBean. Only mod I use is Direct Inject (Kill Joy).
Currently on WiFi just to ask this question. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What part of the U.S. you live in?, Sprint doing massive network overhaul in a lot of cities. Did you update PRL before you flashed any of those AOSP roms?
Sent from my hybrid GalaxyS3
I'm in Westmont, Illinois. Yes, I made sure to update PRL before going to AOSP and even now, on Clean Bean, with a frequent PRL update I will show 4G for a brief moment (and even show 4G performance) then revert to 3G. I'm figuring it is Sprint, but when I go just a few miles north to Lombard, Illinois I have perfect 4G reception.
