Please forgive me if this is a beat to death topic. From what I saw on other related topics, people had bought third party bluetooth accessories and installed them into the car. I think my question here is a little different.
I have a Nissan 08 X-Terra with Bluetooth installed by factory.
I love playing media on my phone as it comes out of my laptop speakers.
I would like to do the same in my car and ditch the aux cable, but I am only able to use the car's phone connection. It has no media connection.
Is there a way around this? The apps on the market seem to be third party music players. I really would like to find an app that just integrates in the stock android/htc music player with the car's bluetooth capabilities.
Is there some way to enable this or is this my car's outdated bluetooth equiptment that is the problem?
There has to be a way to do this. >_>?
Shameless bump

I believe there is a bt mono application on the market that will push the music through the headset(phone setting) of your head unit but it will not be a stereo signal. The only way for stereo is with a unit that supports a2dp for bluetooth.

So should I be hearing music through my handsfree?
I used my phone for GPS for the first time and I love hearing Nav notifications through my handsfree set. What I couldn't figure out is how to keep using my handsfree set without music playing through it. Nothing would play through the AUX port of my car stereo unless I turned off my handsfree.
I want to be able to hear music through the car stereo and notifications / calls through the headset - is that possible?

I don't think it's possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your phone manages both at the same time. You could have them go through the same one tough. That's what I personally do, both on bluetooth audio system (car).
How did you manage to get it to play on both? For me it seems like it has to be one or the other

Both on bluetooth? I simply have both running at the same time.
My issue was that it seemed like I can only do one or the other. I saw in the settings for my voyager legend that you can make calls through headset but have music still play through car stereo
That works

Not sure I completely understood what you're trying to do, so this may not be what you're wanting.
But if you go to your Bluetooth pairings on the phone and then go to the settings for your Car Stereo Bluetooth pairing, there is an option for either Call Audio or Music Audio. You can de-select the Music Audio so that only Call Audio plays through Bluetooth to the Car Stereo.
All I want is to be able to still hear navigation notifications in my headset while still be able to hear music through car stereo. That doesn't seem possible. I either hear it....
1) All in my headset (phone calls, music and notifications) or car stereo
2) Phone calls in headset (and navigation notifications if I'm on the phone) with music and notifications in car stereo
But I want it to be phone calls plus all notifications in headset regardless if I'm using the phone and music in car stereo

I went ahead and did a little search. Android seems to do it on it's on so I'm not sure why you can't connect to both and hear what you want in both.
I personally don't connect to 2 devices at the same time but I do get/hear everything in my car audio system (navigation, music, calls, notifications) and that can all be at the same time. The music sound will just lower when navigation girl speaks and when a notification comes in.
Now I dunno if you searched for this but I did find a app that might help (can't try it myself as I only connect to one): Smart Bluetooth Widget Free. There's also a paid version.
And like the other guy mentioned, you can select in the bluetooth options what you want to be streamed through it.

Did you read what I said? I gave a link to a app that might help him (which I haven't tested so can't confirm).
Hello Everyone,
We here at iBOLT would love to find out what percentage of Samsung Galaxy S4 users are listening to streaming music from their handset while in the car. As your S4 has access to great music Apps like Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, Slacker etc. it would be great to find out what percentage are driving a car equipped with car-stereo that features Bluetooth Audio Streaming (so called "A2DP" profile). If not, what kind of speaker do you have set up?
Don't have a car, but when I ride my motorbike I use the S4A to listen to music through my bluetooth headset in my helmet.
And if I were to buy a car, the ability to pair it with my phone (also for a2dp) is definitely important.
I stream both Internet content and content stored on my device. The content isn't what's important. What's important is the ability to stream the content through bluetooth to the radio.
my car has a Galaxy Tab 2 7" in my dash board so most of my music is played right off the 16GB MicroSD Card in the tablet, but when I do want to stream from my Subsonic server at home I do it through my phone. I do have a BT Headset (Samsung HS3000) which supports A2DP wired into my car speakers, but from my phone the volume is super low for some reason, so I usually just plug my phone into the 3.5mm headset plug I have also hooked up in my car.
I just use simple wired headphones because my bluetooth set fell off my head and shattered to tiny bits on the floor it's funny cause it still works but there's no way to get it back together again. I only use play music at the moment. I'd rather not stream because it bites into my data plan with sharp pointy teeth. That crap leaves marks!
Well I use my Plantronics Bluetooth headsets while I am in the car or on my bike...the music quality is superb and it just makes me to enjoy the track with driving though and its quite easy to answer the calls even so I just love my headsets they are pretty awesome one to use.....
I like listen to streaming music while driving, cause it can make me sober when drive.
mainly using deezer for streaming with 3,5mm jack !
I do.

Is your car stereo a kenwood? I used to be an installer and a lot of kenwood bluetooth models have a default setting to play bluetooth audio through only one speaker. This had me stumped for a while, but what you need to do to change it is to put it in the "standby" source, and then access "detailed settings" and look for a setting I believe is labeled bluetooth HF audio or something, enter that setting and you can change it from "front/front only" to "all". It took a while for me to finally find it because you need to be on the standby source and access the settings. You'd think to be able to change it while in the bluetooth source. Hope that solves your issue.
Sorry for the long title,
I got a new car this week, Honda Civic Tourer Uk/Ireland model
The phone paired fine and i can stream music no problem but i cant 'browse' music from the stereo's controls like i can with an ipod. When i browse to the phone via the stereo it just gives me device name. I can skip tracks forward or back, but cant change albums etc with the car controls
Anyone else come across this? On 4.3 update
Cheers,
Mick

Most likely its just htc's software which doesn't support that feature in your car like it does with your ipod.
Would it be worth converting to Google play edition to see if it would work?
Flashed GPE rom and no difference... can just see the device name from the cars stereo and forward back tracks but cant browse.. its not that big of a deal but still would be nice to have working. I'm figuring the stereo must be missing something for it to work..
I have the same problem with my BMW Business Media. With my missus iphone 5S,I can browse music directory as MTP connection, cant see the album art but can see next song, all directory as albums etc.
I am just wondering has anybody come up with a solution for it?
I use Google Music to stream music in my car (2013 Nissan Altima), but this issue is occurring regardless of what streaming service I use. I upgraded from an LG G3, and when streaming, my car's stereo would display track information. After switching to the G4, it will still stream the music perfectly fine, but it is not displaying the track info. To verify it wasn't an issue with either just my phone, or the car stereo, yesterday I connected a friends G4, and it wouldn't display the info. But when connecting another friends G3, it would display it fine. The G4's are of course on 5.1, and both my friends G3 and my old one were on 5.0. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
I have the same issue on my 13 VW GTI, came from the m8 and it worked flawlessy with my car.
Yea having the same issue.
Does it auto connect to the car BT system in your case ? (the music streaming...)

Yes. It automatically connects and starts playing as soon as I turn on the car.
Same here no output as far as metadata, track list etc

Same issue here too. Coming from Samsung S5 running 4.2. Worked flawlessly. After switching to the LG G4, Android 5.1 track information will not display when connected to car radio via bluetooth. Music still plays just fine, though.
I only tried with tunein and I did get info displayed.
I have a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and stream Google/Amazon Music and both are displaying track information.

My G4 won't automatically connect to my '14 Subaru WRX. The only way to get it to connect for me is to manually go into Bluetooth settings and select it. Even then, sometimes it takes 2-3 times for it to actually connect. Once I get it connected, it streams music fine, but doesn't display any track info. It's pretty annoying.
I did some research on this and found out people with the note 4 were having similar issues. Some suggesting it could be the difference in BT version between our phones and cars?
I have a pioneer fh-x700bt head unit and I'm having the same issue. Phone works like it should. All my call information is there, audio sounds great. Media also sounds great. Just not getting track info. I use Amazon music and iHeartRadio. Never had a problem with my htc one m7.

Mine is displaying track information, but seems to randomly freeze on a song, and then stop updating. Music plays fine, but the track info gets stuck. Mostly using Poweramp.
Never had any issues with my Note 3.

For the not re-connecting after upgrading to a G4, try adding the BT device (car) to the Smart Lock trusted devices list. Also, might also be good to try unparing the devices, re-paring and adding to the Smart Lock trusted devices list.
As far as BT streaming goes, I'm having sound quality issues with my G4. Regardless of what music app I use, BT streaming audio is distorted. Gain seems to be set very high. Posted it here.
Seems as though no one has figured out the song information display issue.
I hope this will get fixed, it's pretty annoying.

It really is. As silly as it may sound, the native bluetooth support on the stock stereo played a part in my decision when I decided to buy my car. My old car, I used a bluetooth receiver plugged into the aux port, but I really liked that I could use the steering wheel to change tracks (which I still can), and that it displayed song info with my new car.
I made a post on the Google support forums, but didn't get a response
Maybe we can make some noise about this to LG? It's not just a particular G4 model that isn't working. It's across the board.
here is thread with people having similar issues as us.

I've tried spotify and google music and metadata isn't being sent over.
found this issue on the spotify forums as well, could be app specific though
