With all the talk and theories about the new FB Messenger App, would Greenifying the app squash all the concerns (real and otherwise)?

It probably would, however, if you install App Settings (Xposed) you can manually revoke and permissions you don't want it to have. Also, the Gummy ROM has great App Ops that you can revoke permissions, and also see if the app has ever used those permissions. I know that Twitter read my SMS messages... not sure why, but it's revoked and won't happen again. :cyclops:
Look at the permissions there is nothing new here between facebooks permissions and messenger.
For that matter Skype, Google plus, etc..

Hi. I know in previous versions of Facebook you could sync contacts (numbers/photos ect)
Does anybody know how to do this on the n4, or a way to import all the contacts photos and numbers?
I have already gone into settings>accounts and set contacts to sync from there but no luck
Any ideas?
Thanks

Ice Cream Sandwich and later versions of android don't allow Facebook contact syncing. My understanding is that this was because the way that Facebook had been allowed to do it in the past was a kludgy system that wasn't the same as the api available to other developers. Until Facebook decides to use the standard api, you have to use as third party app to make it work. I use one that's popular called Haxsync.

+1 for Haxsync
It is fantastic. You can sync your fb contacts - chose to sync those that match a contact you already have, or sync all.
It will also sync your fb calendar events and/or birthdays which I find really useful
+1 Haxsync. It syncs everything you might want and you can configure the sync in many ways.
It's not free though.
User that or Friendcaster for Facebook.

Does Haxsync still work in JB 4.2? If so do you need the app plus the work around?

You need the workaround. If you install just the app, it prompts you on first launch to install the workaround.
Haxsync works great.

Hi guys,
Here's the new Facebook Home app for people who can't download from Google Play Store.
Update first your Facebook and Facebook Messenger app and install the Facebook Home app attached.
There is already a thread for this mate... Why make another???

Anyone know if the Messenger uses SMS to send receive FB messages? Or does it just integrate FB with SMS. Don't want to pay AT&T for SMS
he wanted some thanks obviously

Agree. He wanted to make his thanks meter to reach 1000. Look now he has 1001. Maybe he's,trying to make it over 9000!!
Actually, according to time stamps this one was first by a couple of hours. I closed the one in General and redirected traffic to this thread.
I probably won't keep it, but the home app is not that bad as a lockscreen. Lockscreen serves no purpose anyway, so... Once you realize you can keep your launcher inside intact, it is not so bad.
What would be really cool is if somebody made like a Flipboard lockscreen app like FB home.

Who'd ever want to replace a beautiful android UI just to access live feeds quickly?
BTW, i hate this app.
I wonder what profit would Facebook make from HTC First.

kinda have to agree. tried it out for 5 mins, no quick access to normal apps and the newsfeed kinda sucks. uninstalled after 5 mins. I'm sure they'll improve on it though....
Very Useless app.Work as a launcher.it is not good.Normal FB app is enough for me

Hello, I prefere tweet from app because i use many accounts. It's more simple to switch.
Title says it all really, I had to install the social media.apk just to get facebook in blinkfeed
This seems like a huge step backwards I assume I'm missing something
Any info on this would be much appreciated
Probably part of the debloat. I use Sync.ME for the same features though.
I don't know if it did for the M8 or M9 either did it?

Do you know which apk controlled that? Just checked both devices and neither has Facebook contacts so it may be something I removed on the custom ROM.
I thought Facebook themselves killed that functionality a long time ago.
Hasn't worked on Samsung devices for a while. I'm wondering if it isn't a FB thing.
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
What the 10 doesn't have and I find a little odd is no Blinkfeed integration!
So it comes with Facebook and Messenger stubs but no Blinkfeed plugin.
It doesn't come with Twitter, but does come with a Twitter blinkfeed extension
It doesn't come with Google+, but does does come with a Google+ blinkfeed extension
;p

I'm not sure. All I know is that I could add my Facebook account and it'd match names and photos

I think at some point that was a Facebook feature that they killed off sadly.
Sync.me is a great tool for doing it tho!
My T-Mobile M8 did Facebook contact sync. I eventually reflashed to AT&T and lost that functionality. Later reflashed to the unlocked version and it was missing from that version by that time as well.
Just tried sync.me, wow it fixes what I've been missing for so long. How could I not have tried this app. I've tried so many others with no luck this works great thanks everyone

Yes but as far as I know sync.me only links facebook contact picture to contacts and no other information and it doesn't link the contact to their facebook page
Yes Facebook killed that feature. What worked for me on my M8, was to google facebook apk version 27(I may have the apk in dropbox). That version had the sync contact setting. Once you did this your contacts will be back and then you can update back to the latest fb apk.

This is the method for syncing fb contacts if you dont wish to install other apps. facebook removed the contact sync from the app a while ago and an old app is needed to sync them them updating the app is possible.

Nothing to do with HTC, it was Facebook who discontinued the feature unfortunately. Use Sync.ME.

I tried installing the older Facebook app and keep getting an "app not installed" error. Could it be because of the Facebook app already loaded on the device...even though it's not the full app?
Hi, i'm using the old-but-stable 2.20.40.149 on my Z008, the only issue is whenever i start messenger, it crashes all the time. Facebook has the same behaviour. I tried to install old Messenger version, as well as wiping dalvik cache, still no help. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Make it a system app doesn't help.
Are you using xposed?
I had the same issue and solution was to boot without xposed, launch Facebook and Messenger, then install xposed again.

Hi,
Try to wipe data of Facebook and Messenger app and relaunch it. If it doesn't help, try factory reset.

If nothing else then ditch the Facebook app and use a third party app for Facebook.
I got rid of the FB app because it seemed to take over my phone. I now use Swipe instead. It is a little plainer but it works solid and stays where it is supposed to. It even lets me use messaging in FB without having to install FB Messenger.
