I've read about a million of these threads and researched elsewhere, but am coming back to the experts here.
The issue is that the camera won't work. It says, "unfortunately, gallery has stopped." We did clearing data. We did factory resets. I replaced both front and back cameras. I flashed the factory image.
After flashing the factory image, the phone boots up with "unfortunately gallery has stopped." I tried installing an old MIUI camera that supposedly only uses the back camera. It stops. Barcode Scanner stops. Trying to start a front facing hangouts session....stops. Downloaded some selfie camera app...stops.
Going to take it apart again and check connections. Any other ideas? Maybe the replacement parts from ifixit.com were bad? Or something else...
Thanks.
Ohh...
Previously it wouldn't charge. Changed the battery with an after market (non NFC) and USB FLEX cable. That all works good now...
Boot into recovery and wipe system, cache, data, internal, dalvik cache...and then flash factory image. You maybe didn't wiped all before flashing factory img..
Thanks...will gibe it a try. While I was at it, I also saw that recovery had repair option for some partitions.
Flashing now...
"Unfortunately Gallery has stopped...." right after the setup wizard started.

Both old cameras (top) and new (bottom) look good.
Contacts look good...buy will clean anyway.
A little corrosive damage on the chip cover.
Right next to the back camera contact is a gold surface with some black dots. Are the dots normal, or has something been worn away?
Now were getting somewhere!
Those black spots were some kind of mold/corrosion. Cleaned contacts and installed the old cameras and factory reset.
The camera actually opens now...but to a blackish/greyish screen. Different message now that gallery isn't responding.
Gonna wipe all, flash all...and see what happens.
If that doesn't work, install the new cameras.
...cameras work the same since putting the new ones back in. It opens, but locks up with a black/grey screen. Was going to flash all.bat, but the usb is no dorked. It will charge, but it's not recognized by PC. Took apart and checked again. Same problem.
Maybe I messed something up with a bit of rubbing alcohol trying to clean things up?
This has nothing to do with your camera. Its just the factory image you flashed. Try flashing another image.

Could you provide a logcat and the output for the following command in adb?
cat /sys/kernel/debug/remoteproc/omap-rproc.1/trace1
I am having a similar issue wherein both the cameras wouldn't work. It's a broken device that I have bought for development.

Hi everybody,
FIrst of all my phone is rooted and it has Cyanogenmod 11 -2014-0906-Nightly. About 3 weeks back I installed the S4 google play edition Camera on my SGH-M919. It seemed to work fine but I uninstalled it and went back to the one that comes with Cyanogenmod (I think it's the google one). Since then all of my sensors are not working anymore, proximity, accelerometer, magnetic, etc... (all the ones that show on CPU-Z, none have any data). I've tried factory resetting, I've tried snapshots of Cyanogenmod, I've even tried Slimkat. Nothing seems to work. They only thing I haven't tried yet is to put the original ROM back. I really don't like the Samsung ROM.
Right now, the only way I can get in Landscape mode is to use a camera app that I have called Camera Zoom FX, it goes in Landscape and then everything else is in landscape, but then I can't auto-rotate though. The default camera app won't change to landscape mode though. I've tried installing the app "galaxy2.apk", this is the one when you install another camera it says to rename the file to galaxy2.apk.bak. When I try to install it, it goes throught the whole procedure and then it says the app wasn't installed. I've tried to install it through TWRP, but I can't seem to see it in TWRP as I do in ES File Explorer.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
Ron
Have you tried a factory reset? And for the camera app, you need to push it to /system/app or system/priv-app and set permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot

I did do a factory reset has mentioned. And I did push the file in the app folder and I did change the write permissions and even changed the whole folder to RW instead of RO. I've tried a lot of things. Except as mentioned, put back the original ROM. I think somewhere there is a file that needs to go back to default that doesn't change when you do a factory reset (I've done every wipe you can do with TWRP).I think it's software related because not every single sensor would go on the phone. I never dropped it and never had water damage. I did have somebody change the cracked screen though a few months back. But everything was working after it was done.
I'm just hoping that somebody can help me before I install the original ROM. I'm afraid that if I put the original ROM that my phone won't be unlocked anymore.
It won't relock

That's good to know. If I don't find something this week. I'll do that this weekend. Thanks for the help.
I have this problem too, only noticed when my screen should turn off when I'm on a call and its up to my ear. Then I checked and nothing works....frustrating when you loose your ixfinity remote and your ir blaster doesn't work.

I've restored my back up of the stock 4.3 touchwiz and still doesn't work.
This is the GPE ROM that started this.
My devices setting: stock OS, stock kernel, latest twrp and chainfire rooted. Nothing else. I updated from Android 4.4.4 straight to 5.0.1 (5.0 skipped) with fastboot clean flash, data, cache wipe.
So, the story went like this. I read a book on Google Play Books in landscape, then I put my device into sleep mode by closing the magnet cover. I closed it in landscape mode and left it in landscape.
Later, when I wanted to use my device again and I opened the cover to wake my device, the display was stuck in landscape. I didn't lock the autorotation.
I downloaded the app "Sensor Kinetics-Innoventions" to make tests of my device's sensors, pretty every kind of sensors. Here are the results, I attach some screenshots showing that the sensors cannot be detected at all (no numbers indication changing around. If you don't understand what I mean, try out the app yourself).

See, even the lux sensor doesn't work. Now my screen brightness doesn't adjust to the surroundings even when "adaptive brightness" is switched on my device.
FYI, I did a clean update from KitKat 4.4.4 to 5.0.1 skipping 5.0 using fastboot and official from factory image extracted system.img, boot.img, etc., wiped data and this kind of bug is what I encounter.
Normally, when the sensors are working, the app would show something like this (after reboot it fixed the issue, but only for a short time and I quickly made a screenshot):
The thing is, now, even a reboot won't fix the sensors issue. I am not in a mood to do all this flashing and setting up again, don't have that f*cking time. [emoji36]
Finally, I found a solution and temporary fix. The bug is actually caused by Google Now (I don't know which version though, maybe the lastest). I went to the Google Now "Ok Google voice recognition on every screen" and disabled it, rebootet and voila all sensors are working again. It has something to do with Google Nows constant voice recognition-ish thing. So this fix worked for me. Anyone wanted to know, here it is. Cheers and peace.
Nice to know
impressive!!! worked for me as well !
Hi guys,
Hoping you can help me here!
I decided to return to stock after trying a few custom ROMs, so followed the KDZ instructions to the letter, downloaded the correct KDZ as per my IMEI - D85520H_00.
I opted to perform a CSE flash as I was coming from a custom ROM.
All was going well until I went through the set up wizard. I pressed skip on the section to reinstall the LG apps and it just dumped me to the homescreen with neither the notification or on-screen buttons!
Sorry about the poor quality pictures, I can't even take screenshots on the phone!

I've tried a hard reset twice but to no avail, should I just try the entire process again? It all seemed to go fine!
Cheers,
James.
Edit: Forgot to say on first boot the wizard restarted my phone before I could do anything and the screen then wouldn't respond so I had to do a hard reset.
Edit 2: I've just re-flashed it, not entered any settings for data, Google Accounts, Knock Code etc and the same thing is happening
It happened to me. What i did to solve it was enter to TWRP and wipe everything: data, dalvik, cache, internal memory and system (This will softbrick your device so make sure your download mode is working because theres no turning back). Then put in on download mode and flash to stock.
Good luck.

Thanks for that I flashed a different custom ROM in the end, but I might give this another try later when I've got my motivation back!
I have the same problem except that i can't enter in download mode and i don't have twrp recovery. What can i do?
Hi everyone,
This is regarding my ASUS ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (1.8 GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM). A few days ago, after 1 year and 11 months of excellent service, suddenly I saw that some of the apps (Play Music, ASUS MiniMovie) were corrupted. But a simple uninstall and reinstall fixed them. Later that day, I was about to open settings when a message popped up "Unfortunately, settings has stopped". Rebooting the phone did not fix it and I was totally stuck as I was unable to clear the data also for the settings app which also requires "Settings" to function. I managed to do a factory reset after which, I could not even get to the home screen because that involves the Settings app as well.

I went on to proceed with factory reset from the recovery mode and to my shock, the recovery mode was also corrupted. Screen just froze with a USB logo. I tried to flash the recovery with xFSTK but got write error.
Then I took apart the device and cooled the flash memory (SK hynix manufactured) with some IPA.
The device booted up and was able to get to the home screen. Then I followed the ASUS standard downgrade procedure to downgrade the device from Marshmallow to Lollipop (which should force flashing of the recovery as well and everything). Phone was stable then. Then following ASUS standard upgrade procedure, I upgraded to Marshmallow and did a factory reset again. Set up everything and phone is rock stable now, performs good as new with no slow downs or anything.
My question is "What exactly happened?" It was never rooted and very well taken care of (even looks like new). Is the flash memory failing? Can the firmware get corrupted on its own?
Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hello I am also having the same issue? Can you please explain more about the way you have recovered. I love my Asus Zenfone2. I am trying to do Factory RESET which causes this issue. Do you mean, use IPA to clean the Memory side? Please help me. My email ID is [email protected]
Firstly, try to flash it with xFSTK using the tutorial here on XDA. If it fails, then you need to take the phone apart.
MY PROBLEM IS INSANELY RARE AND (propably) HARD TO FIX
Hello!
I've had i9505 for over 4 years now, I had many problems with root, custom rom etc but I always find ways to fix them - not this time!
Since yesterday, I can't boot to the system. It started when I was just in my ES file explorer and suddenly some weird artifacts popped up and I couldn't see anything (its not a physical screen problem!) then my phone turned off itself so now, I'm trying this:
Hikd power button --> *short vibration* --> Samsung S4 logo pops up --> black screen --> again vibration --> ... and again and again. It just loops here.
So I left it for a night hoping that when I wake up it will be finally working again but no, NOW it was stuck on 'SAMSUNG' logo (the one with a blue background). So I pulled out the battery and the phone started restarting again (boot loop).
But there is something new about this situation. Every 2 or 3 restarts there are ARTIFACTS on the screen. For now, I've experienced 3 different ones and I managed to catch one of them with camera (see image below)

There is another one with a blue code in really small size, couldn't catch it fast enough tho.
This is what I have been doing with my phone before all this crap happened:
1. I installed 'Udemy' app from Google Play
2. I installed Modded Google Play via Lucky Patcher
3. I updated Lucky patcher
4. I edited build.prop to make my phone visible as s7, but then i changed it back
I think these artifacts may be caused a virus or just broken system files - I don't know :/
And pretty much that's it. I really want to know what possibly could cause this issue.
Please, everyone, I've always found ways to fix problems without flashing phone, so I believe I can now.
I have access to download mode and TWRP recovery.
But one more thing about TWRP - when I try to copy a file or wipe cache, error message pops up "E: Unable to mount storage". Is it possible, that for the first time ever my phone actually got infected?
If I catch any new artifacts, I will show them here.
I would be grateful for any help at this point, thanks
