Microphone Noise Background - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm currently running ARHD10.2
WWE Asia
CID_044
Firmware 2.22.701.4
It's a great rom, battery life is amazing and very stable.
However, I'm hearing static noise whenever I record a video (voice recording is fine though), when I Skype, and when I make phone calls. The receivers always can hear a background static noise but it's not known to me (caller).
Is this a known issue, if so are there any fixes for this?

Well, there's a lot of confusion in what you meant. You say that you hear a static noise and a few words later, you say that the receivers hear background noises. Please be clear. As of now, since there's a confusion in what you typed, I can suggest you to record a video in a very quiet room, and see if it produces background noises. I do get background noises, but that's the most minimum noise. As far as I know, all smartphones produce some(very low) background noise. That's common.. These devices don't have those mic's that are used for audio recording.. Compare their sizes !

actually i came from the m7 and that one did not had this problem. I did recorded concerts and in realy quiet scenarios with the m8 and the microphone works awsome with noise reduction in every situation except in calls. I noticed that a few days after purchaseing it and bouth software updates that i receved did not change anything in this perspective. In my situation bouth htc`s handsfree and normal microphone, call quality is exceptional at the audio that it sends, but when i`m in a noisy place it also records the backgroung noise as clear as it records me on the phone. I repeat only in phone calls this happens. It does the same with HD voice calling and it does the same now after i changed my carrier and its bands.
I own an international stock unrooted / tweaked version of the One m8. No solution yet
P.S. There is no crackle, whitenoise or any distorsion of the background noise during phone calls. Its clear and loud as i am according to the other callers end.

Recording calls

With reference to this topic of applications:

can anyone tell me if their Dash/S620 records calls without speaker phone activated (with any of the programs and versions)?
thanx.
I just tested. It records phone calls fine (ie. also non-speakerphone ones).
The only thing is, when you PLAY BACK the file it will only play through speaker.
do you have WM6 or WM5?

Can you also check it with a BT headset - that is, is the other party recorded then too?
OK guys I did all the tests.
I spoke a little too soon....
The problem is, only MY VOICE is recorded. The other party is not. (A little bit can be heard sometimes ; whatever gets from the earpiece to the microphone.)
Tried with BT headset. Same thing. My voice is recorded loud and clear (from the headset's mic) but nothing from the other end!
Playback is ALWAYS through the speakerphone , also with BT HS connected.
I'm disappointed because I was so happy earlier on, automatic call recording was one of my dream features but this solution is not there yet

That's bad news - thanks for testing.
It seems you must stick to, say, the Oxygen if you need flawless call recording but still want to have a WM5 Smartphone in your pocket.
I Think Tornado gives the same opportunity, perhaps it's the WM6 thing..anyway, it seems VITO guys are working on it..nice feature it would be though..

Htc broke my one x!

Sent it in for the wifi problem. That was fixed but there is now a high pitched noise when recording a video. Not impressed. Back in again next week.
Send an email to htc. Can't hurt anyone

Are you sure they didn't just turn on stereo recording?
When I have stereo sound recording turned on I hear a high pitched tone. Also I noticed that the sound gets muted for half of a second when I turn the flash on or off. But what I forgot to ask you, why would stereo sound recording cause a high pitched sound to appear in the video? Even when I play some music on my speakers and try to record the sound I hear that annoying sound.
Wi-Fi issues? Poor service from HTC UK repair? Shocking. I wonder why this hasn't come up before? Oh wait. It has, in 220 pages of discussion. The party you're looking for is over here.

In-line earphone sound problem with JB

Since updating my HTC One X to JB, I've noticed sound quality for calls is terrible over the two-way earphones supplied with the phone.
By terrible what happens is I can hear sort of a feedback when speaking into the two way earphones(sort of an amplified sound can be heard in the earphones when speaking into the mic). This amplified sound causes the sound to be distorted and when speaking loudly it crackles. This happens with all sorts of phone calls: over normal voice call, skype, viber, or tango.
I suspect this is a software issue as this wasn't a problem in the previous ICS version I had on my phone. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Software number is 3.14.707.24, HTC cid 044
I am using the same version as you but don't have that issue. Are you using any type of sound mod?
i'm also using the same and its working fine till now.... no issue showed up yet....

Buggy use of microphones when making a call while headphones (without mic) connected

Hi everyone,
2 weeks ago I retired my Galaxy S1 and upgraded to a P6. I love a lot about it, and now with the european P125 upgrade, the wifi connectivity issues seem to be resolved as well.
But one issue still seems to come up:
When I have headphones without a mic connected (in my case, Sennheiser HD-25-1), the call quality as perceived by the recipient is horrible when there is ambient noise present (for example in a bus).
So, whenever I listen to music and I receive a call - when I don't disconnect my headphones and use my P6 like usual, I hear the other person just fine, but he hears the ambient noise much much louder than usual.
When I disconnect the headphones, everything is back to normal.
This wasn't the case with my old SGS...
So I did a few experiments:
- Without ambient noise, the recipient doesn't notice much of a difference whether I use headphones or not
- With ambient noise (simulated by loud radio), when I don't use headphones, the other person hears me fine, much louder than the ambient.
- With ambient noise and connected headphones, my voice is as loud as the ambient noise, so the other person has big troubles understanding me
- Now, when I talk to the *top* of the P6 (right next to the USB port) into the mic that is used to filter out ambient noise during calling, my voice is *louder* than before - so at least that is a small workaround to that
So it seems to me, that when I connect headphones, the upper mic is used only, while without connected headphones, the lower mic is used as primary mic and the upper one is used just for filtering out ambient.
Anyway, it's doing something that I don't want it to do and now I wonder if I can change it
(By the way, I tried with 3 different headphones, doesn't make a difference).
I have a P6 that used to have B606 and now has B125 and it behaved the same for both software versions.
Soooo.. any clues?
regards,
-taurui

Go to Settings/Sound/Dolby Digital Plus and uncheck it. See if that helps.
It's already unchecked... :/
I have noticed the same problem...
very annoying...

Low Mic volume / muffled sound

Hello z1c owners.
Have you guys experienced low mic volume problem during call? The other end of call keep complain about my voice not clear. After turn off noises suppression, things got better, but still sounds like the mic is coverd with something, not crystal clear. I used skvalex call recorder recorded calls from my z1c and a moto x for comparison. Moto X is loud and clear, but z1c is lower and muffled.
Is that normal or I bought defected phone? Is there any solutions for this problem.

Have exactly the same problem only when I use the speakerphone for calls. I am very interested in possible solutions.
I have another observation to report. I use smart voice recorder from the playstore to record conversations. There is a setting inside this app which lets you choose between microphone's auto gain control and manual gain control (calibrate). Auto gain gives me awful very low volume audio. On the other hand when I calibrate the mic the volume is in the perfect level.

I had the same problem on mine, the volume was so low that the other people could't hear what I said at all. Then the little grid covering the mic and the speaker detached and now the problem is gone (waterproofing is gone too I guess), the holes on the grid are tiny and they got obstructed by dirt.
