I'll preface this by saying I'm a complete novice in this realm. Tech savvy, but this is my first tablet, and I've never had a smart phone beforehand. Attempted to follow the standard tutorial seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674649.
Odin is fine, getting recovery installed is fine.
Here's where we run into trouble. When I reboot in recovery to try to flash the root zip, I get an error that I haven't seen in this particular form elsewhere online.

It seems there's no shortage of "signature verification failed" errors out there, but they all result in a failed installation; mine does not. Moreover, my system auto-reboots at this point, which is why I had to take a really hasty picture. I did not have it set to auto-reboot in Odin, so I have no idea why it would be doing that.
However, upon rebooting, I don't have root access (as verified by connectbot per the suggestion of another forum post).
I'm sorta' scrambling my digits at this point, wiping, reflashing, redownloading, etc., but nothing seems to change. This is always the error, and then I don't have root access afterwords.
I'm sorry if this is some hilariously easy issue to fix, but I've done a fair bit of looking, and I can't find squat.
Any help would be turbo-appreciated. Thanks!
I fixed my own problem. Somewhere along the lines, it was booting me into normal recovery rather than the flashed recovery, presumably because of some dumb mistake on my part. Please close.

Hi trusty XDA-peoples... I've been on the modaco forums the past 12 hours and have had no luck. I have a bung Desire after following the Apps2SD update (the goldcare and root went 100% fine). I used the old method and have just tried Paul's new method. The result is the same (I've tried it in 3 different Linux distros, it still says "device not found"). I'm only getting this 'device not found' AFTER I applied the A2SD zip update on the modaco forum (first page on the root instructs).

If anyone can help, that'd be much appreciated. The phone was on the red-triangle when this error occurs, and I've also tried it on the "different screens" (which doesn't make sense but I tried them anyway - on hboot screen and fastload screen) - still device not found...
Thanks guys.
I had a similar issue running the initial root through a virtualbox. I got this when I hadn't allowed the 'generic' android phone access through the virtual-usbs.
You have a usb driver problem.
Solutions:
1. try another computer
2. there's a free utility USBDview that lists all your usb devices/drivers installed on your computer and allows you to delete them so that they get reinstalled when connected.

Hey I apologize if this is a stupid question, what with the video, and this thread and all which is also giving advice but.... It doesn't seem to apply to me since I have a different model phone. >.>

So here goes, when I'm trying to find my kernel version all I get is 2.6.35.11, with no other information whatsoever. I reset it to factory settings (I bought it used off of ebay) to see if that may help and there was no such luck. So I took the liberty of taking a screenshot hoping that would you might be able to help me This is only my second android device (my first was a g1 that I rooted back when texts entered information into the terminal) so be gentle.

Now I'm not sure what to do at the moment, but any help would be awesome. I would really like to root my phone so I can get all this garbage software off of it. Thanks guys!
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, you are running 2.3.5 as your android version, you can use SuperOneClick to root it ...
Or you can Use Odin to flash a custom recovery , and root it ...
and then you can install whatever custom ROM you want as long as it is compatible with your phone ...

I was going to try and link you to the method I found but I found something on AndroidNZ that I thought would work. I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid thread, I'll try the things you guys just mentioned.
Hey, I when I check for updates I get this error

I tried clearing app data for 'Updater' and 'Download Manager' apps and nothing changed.
I tried to check for updates from safe mode and I still got the error.
I factory resetted the device *twice* and the error still appears!
I never flashed anything on it or changed 'cid or mid' or whatever that is.
what is happening?

If it is completly stock i would do what the message says and ring htc support.
If not stock read through this thread.

I had this error too. Easily fixed by following the following thread:

Make sure the mount system as readonly is selected - I missed this and i still couldn't receive OTAs.

Bricked Kernel
Hi, did you try something like custom ROMs, Magisk Modules, messed up with system files
Possibly that the kernel is dead
And if is not, your phone is COOCKED, its even OVER-COOCKED
And i little tip, try reboot in fastboot and try to get somehow your internal storage files
So I think I ****ed up big times. I got techmesto to unlock the bootloader for my Nokia 6.1 & everything was working. Then when installing TWRP I accidentaly wiped the system, because TWRP was saying I have no OS.
Now I'm trying to flash a stock rom back onto the phone with OST 6.2.8 and I get the following error:

This is the firmware I'm trying to flash:
PL2-347C-0-00CN-B04
I also tried out these:
PL2-415C-0-00WW-B01
PL2-130B-0-00WW-B02
Am I using the wrong firmware? Where do I find the right one? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm getting the same error did you find any fix??
Hey man,
the guy (can't recall his name atm) from TechMesto helped me.
I bought his service to originally unlock the phone & then I messed up some steps & that is how I got the error from above. In the end I asked him about this error & he was able to solve it.
Maybe try contacting him & explain your situation, I told him I would send recommend him to anybody. That is the Mail we communicated trough:
