All of a sudden my CPU is running at 100% non-stop. Using Trickster-Mod I can see this and my phone is extremely hot and my battery drains in about an hour.
I used better battery stats, CPU Monitor, GSAM... all show normal battery usage, no apps or processes using more CPU or battery than normal. I'm at a loss, anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Justin
Chances are it's a rogue app. Process of elimination, remove anything you've recently installed.

What if anything have you changed using Trickster? I'd maybe uninstall that and clear cache/Dalvic and do a couple reboots and see if it's still acting up.
Of course there's the Factory Data Reset option too.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried tracking down an app but I hadn't installed anything recently, just some updates, I froze all of the possible offenders with Titanium Backup and still had the problem. I hadn't made any changes to Trickster in a long time but I tried that and it didn't make a difference either.
So... I ended up backing up everything with Titanium Backup and installing SkyDragon ROM... that fixed the problem.
Thanks again for taking the time to try and help.

So i rooted my evo and installed a custom rom pretty much as soon as I had it out of the box. And then started installing apps. And i've pretty much NEVER had a fully charged battery last for a whole day even with very little to no usage of the phone.
A few days ago my friend also got an evo but hasn't rooted it or installed any apps yet. And he is easily getting TWO days or more out of a charge.
so i decided to do a full wipe of my phone, and what do you know, I'm suddenly getting 2 days out of the battery, maybe even a little more then 2 days.
Previously, i had setcpu installed as well as system panel. And i was never able to figure out what was draining the battery. When i looked in system panel the only thing that was using the cpu a little bit was system. Pretty much every other app listed was showing 0.1% of cpu usage.
So i'd like to know if there's a better method to figure out what's draining the battery. Do I have to install apps one at a time and wait a few hours/a day to see if the battery starts going down? or is there a better method?
thanks
I always check the awake time versus the time on. If the wake time is very high that means there is an app acting up.
What I'll do to investigate which app is I'll just go to the little stock battery report thing and look at what is using my battery.
Also, it should be noted that be wary of the facebook app. That thing is a complete and total battery hog. It was draining my battery from 20% over the course of an hour.
I was checking the stock battery report - it wasn't showing me anything useful when the battery was going dead.
right now i'm getting amazing battery life compared to before.
90 minutes since the phone was unplugged and it's only down to 96% and that's with me using it a bit. Previously, it would have been down to 85-80% by now.
I just have no clue at all what was causing the drain. I was hoping there was a better method other then installing apps one at a time until the battery starts draining to figure out the culprit.
There's an app called Watchdog and it monitors the background activity happening on your phone. If some seems to be getting out of hand it will notify you.
I had the same problem I installed Smobile security and it was KILLING my battery. Watchdog was able to tell what it was.
Hope this helps.
It looks like watchdog does basically the same thing that system panel does. and system panel wasn't showing me anything unusual. System panel shows the cpu usage of apps - and none of my apps were showing high cpu usage.
I guess there's really no app that can actually show you the battery usage per app - it can only show you the cpu usage.
You can try SpareParts from the Market,it may help you see if you have a wakelock issue of some kind and its free so no harm if it doesn't help.

actually, the rom i am using already has spareparts in it. I'm not sure what you mean by wakelock though. How do i determine that? What is it?
Tried CM9 RC2 and Full Throttle 7.1, the same thing happened:
I unplug my phone in the morning after browsing for a few things, then left the phone basically idle for a few hours. Then use it for a few minutes of different activities. For the first few hours the phone goes into deep sleep, after I use it for a few minutes the phone will refuse to go into sleep again, awake until I restart it.
I have been using CPU Sleeper to force the phone into sleep, doesn't really help at all.
Any clue?
Install Better Battery Stats to help determine if an application is keeping your phone in wakelock.

Thanks! it's a great app! trying it now!
any luck?
not yet, seems behaving as expected after installing the app. Still deciding between CM9 RC2 and Full Throttle 7.1, so may need a couple more trials to point things out.
Hey guys, I could use some help tracking down why my battery life has been so horrible on my S3. The phone has been getting pretty hot from regular use as well. I took some screenshots of my battery info and BBS.
A bit of background.
Phone is running a clean install (I did a full wipe before installing) of Slim Bean's Build 7.8 ROM with stock kernel, Wheatley/ROW kernel combo, min CPU speed is set to 192mhz, no overclocking, stock battery.
Most of my apps have been put into Greenify, yet lately, I've been getting 8--10% an hour battery drain. Looking at my wakelocks, I don't really see anything out of the ordinary, and I'm starting to think my battery may be screwed up. I've cleared the cache, fixed permissions, did a clean-up of duplicate and orphaned files using SD Cleaner, and I'm pretty light on the phone.
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Show us your overnight idle drain tomorrow morning. But with the information I have, I'm blaming Facebook.
Would like to know though what firmware you are running (bootloader, etc)?
Will do, Facebook is Greenified, but the Messenger service is not.
I'm running the MD5 firmware.
Downgrade your firmware to LJC (including modem),. There have been issues running MD5 base with cm/aosp..

Yeah, I did today and was still getting about 6% an hour drain. I already threw it on the charger so I have no stats today. I'll pull some tomorrow.
Hi, running latest firmware + 2.10.410.1 roms, tried Maximus and ARHD, both with prior wiping, dalvik/cache wipe, battery cycle etc. When i am actually using the phone it still gets quite warm plus i can literally watch my battery percentage drop 1% every two minutes just using whatsapp. Happens even when not installing anything except whatsapp, gmail etc. I tried battery monitor, but it simply shows those apps (whatsapp) etc, not really WHY they are draining so much power when in use. Standby time is perfectly fine....
Anyone else notice such issues? Anything i can do to test further?

hi mate
try this app (better Battery Stats)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Let it run for a few hours ( are you root? ) and check : other , kernel wakelocks and partial wakelocks to see what is keeping up your phone
i had same issues with both custom roms, im keeping ViperOne since it is the more stable and giving me best performance with no changes at all on tweaks, just select viper sttings on the aroma installer setup.
Hi, I tried bbs, no special wake locks. However, my issue is that phone gets hot and drains battery while in use. Standby is perfectly fine. Even Whatsapp usage it gets hot and u can literally watch % drop.... Thought it was fixed on 2.10.410.1.. Oh I miss my m8. You think viper makes a difference over arhd? I even tried EX hexa core mod..
I faced a similar issue after flashing ElementalX kernel over eragon.
What I did was install os monitor & read the event log.
It turned out that dotview was messing about & keeping my cpu clocks high, so I went to clear data and force stop app which seemed to have fixed it since.
Hey guys, need some help. I have an AT&T H810 rooted 10o. My little cores seem to be running full out at 1440mhz even though my governor is set to Interactive. This is causing it to heat up incredible, to 70c+, and is draining the battery quickly. It seems to have only started occurring in the last few days! I can run it in powersave governor which fixes it to 384mhz, and it fixes the problem, but I don't understand why it is running at full speed under interactive now. The big cores do NOT have this problem AT ALL.
I've removed any apps I installed during that time, cleared my phones cache, cleared the memory, I have tried running it in airplane mode, I've looked into what apps were running and it seems to be very few. Turned location off. I've tried freezing the play services because I have been getting a very intermittent force close. I have also tried to disable all xposed modules, and used avg to scan for any malware. Possibly init.d? Possibly the new xposed v79? I'm at a loss as to what is causing this!
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be happening?
There's always the good old factory reset if everything else fails.
Just asking the obvious but there is no offending wakelocks or anything that sticks out in the battery usage stats?

Battery usage Android OS is highest at 33, followed by screen at 16%.
Wakelocks, I seem to have them under control with amplify, and I don't see any new ones.
Question about factory reset, I am not near a pc for the next few days, will it cause any problems with xposed or my rooted system image, and basically what can I expect with it? I came from a M8 where with custom recovery I was pretty fearless with being to wipe and refresh, can't do that here.
Noticed that disabling 2 of the little cores with kernel auditor really helps with the heat buildup of the phone with not much slowdown

Doesn't solve why it's running at full speed, but I'll keep that in mind.

Personally I never done a factory reset myself yet so i cannot comment.
For the most part it does look like you have something to work with seeing Android OS is taking up the most battery. The hard part is tracking down which process. I'm not the best at this so maybe someone else can chime in. Try taking a look at your currently running processes and see if there's anything odd
Well, after a few factory resets which did not affect xposed, I was able to resolve it to where the cores now return to 384mhz idle. It was something that was installed, and it took 3 or 4 resets after restoring my app backups, and I'm still not sure which app was the culprit. I'm possibly wondering if it was the Amplify module
Sorry for bumping this. I just suffered from this problem and it seems for me it was antutu. For some reasons it was running the background keeping the 4 small cores at 1,2-1,4 cuz constantly. I stopped it and now it's back to normal. Just wondering why it started itself in the first place.
