Just quickly tried it with my HD running energyrom 21884 and with the company Sedna and it works perfectly on both phones. Will try it tomorrow on another Sedna.
Will only load google maps in IE8 though, not in Firefox 3.5.5...
Fantastic piece of software, well done!
No update from Dev. Why?
You have not updated this app for a long time. Why? This is an awesome app. Why no update? I am using it on android.
Because WinMo is dead and this thread is only for it and not android.
will the WP7 support for the old apps of wm?
i know, only market apps, but if we can cook, then we can add a install app existent which install apps, this if the programs have acess to the file system and register.
As far as current information goes, there is no support for legacy software, so I don't think that the libraries necessary for WM6.5 hardware would be on the phone.
Also the window-management (if one wants to call it that) would be completely different in the Windows Phone 7 series.
Another important thing is that it is based on a different kernel than Windows Mobile 6.* (which uses Win CE 5.1). I don't remember what the last number was but it could either be the Win CE 6 Kernel or as was rumored some time ago: the first use of the new Win CE 7 Kernel. This means that lots of API might have changed or be missing.
if we would manage to cook our own custom WP7 ROMs in the future then we also can get us access to the native api. however it won't be possible to run standard wm 6 applications due to GUI components missing. But we still could develop some nice little hacks, tools, services, free customization or maybe even build libraries with native functions exported (to re-use them in the Silverlight apps) to allow us develop something like a simple file explorer, task switcher or registry editor! though not sure about the Silverlight part. What are some .NET experts saying there?
Silverlight and Isolated Storage
When I first read, that there was no direct access to the FileSystem and instead the Silverlight isolated storage was to be used I wondered wether the regular Silverlight Quota's for the isolated storage would apply.
Anyone who wants to know more on what IsoStore quotas are can look for more information here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd458794.aspx
Suffice to say, that for Silverlight 2 there was a default quota of exactly 1 Megabyte of Storage Space (which could be expanded by querying the user). So I went to find out if this would apply to WP7s Applications as well.
Luckily there are methods for requesting exactlly this information.
This told me that I have: 1 927 Megabytes of free space and that the quota limit is set to the maximum value supported by a long variable - which implies no quota limitation.
The question remains: is this only true of the emulator image or will this apply to the final phones as well (my guess currently is that the 1.9 GB of free space imply 2 gb storage space on the emulator image and ~ 90 mb being used by the system and IE).
I hope somebody thinks this information is useful, I'll perhaps try how much i can fill this memory up and how big my programm can get in memory next.
How do I create 'pages' in VS?
I've downloaded the new VS Express and made a basic GUI app, but I can't figure out how to make pages. Please see my pic below to understand what I am refering to.
Has any one figured this out or seen any guides on how to do this?

Don't remember where I saw it, but I think pages or "pivots" as they have been called are disabled in this release of the sdk.
Edit - It's on page 57 of the UI Design and Interaction Guide.
Yup it's meant to come in the updated release, also support for Visual Basic
Visual Basic
I just downloaded Windows Phone Developer tools and i can see only support for C#.
Does that means that they are still working on VB part or that they done with VB and i should finally start learning some real programming languages?
check this out... good behavior that works like the panoramic control for that might be released in future versions of the SDK

you know what I'd like to see?
The WP7 homescreen consists of hubs, right? and swiping it to the left, gives you a list of applications. The app list doesn't seems to be finished yet, but how likely will it be, that this page will eventually be made available for UI customization? I mean, the hubs/tiles interface should still be the main screen when getting the phone out of standby, but the app page could an ideal spot for custom UI, just by a swipe of your finger. just a thought.
Quote from the developer forum
Hi folks,
I have some great news!
I received feedback from the GPM for the Microsoft VS Languages team, who indicates:
"there will definitely be support for writing VB apps for Windows Phone 7, but we are still working on the details and the timeline".
Best Regards,
Mark

Cool link!
Yay, i can postpone my VB to C switch
Thx for info
Thanks for pointing out where in the guide it said that. Also thanks to mrabie for that link. I hope the 'pivot' template released with the final version of VS is a simpler though.
You can probably get away with using VB in SL4 using the VB edition of VS2010. Just avoid using any libraries or controls that SL4 doesn't support in WP7. Then when they launch WP7 it will just be a matter of re-making your interface and copy & pasting most of the code.
Beware: I am an idealist
Silverlight limitation \ work around
I was investigating if it was possible to create a Silverlight (SL) application that can help IT people with basic task; ping, trace-route, port scan, viewer HTTP headers, etc. Unfortunately Silverlight doesn't seem to be cable of doing any of this. Very disappointing to learn.
Anyway, the only work around I can in-vision is if a program were to be installed on that network that had all these abilities and then SL could just be used as a remote control. Since many of us in this forum are tech savoy people, I'm curious as to your feelings toward such an application.
Personally, I would use it only as a last resort. I have a similar application for my iphone, but its all self contained on my phone which makes it great when I have to troubleshoot a foreign network.
Possibly you could do the part about an http-header viewer, but as silverlight and XNA currently don't give you access to the ip-stack itself, port-scanner, ping, tracert don't seem possible.
A fact, MS hopefully will address. As to an application which does this from the phone using a proxy: if i have to setup that proxy first, I'd rather stick with that machine for the occasional ping, tracert, too - but that's just me. Nice idea anyway.
Arabic support in the development tools? [Edit: resolved]
Hello
I'm new to WM development and trying to learn on the WM 7 CPT tools released last week. I try to change label text to Arabic characters but they show up as squares. Are the current tools not yet supporting such languages or is there a work around?
On a semi-related note, is anybody else experiencing some lag while playing around the emulator? It just seems quite slow. I'm running on quite a decent PC (quad core, 2gb ram etc).
How would I go about downloading a file?
How would I download a file from the internet onto the phones storage?
I got a text file in mind, and I'd like the text from the file to be displayed in a text box.
So does anyone know how I would go about doing this?

You don't need to download it to the storage device to be able to display a text file from the net. I haven't developed on WP7 yet, but assuming you can use System.Net.dll and System.IO.dll:
C#:
Code:
HttpWebRequest hwr = HttpWebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com/Robots.txt");
WebResponse resp = hwr.GetResponse();
StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(resp.GetResponseStream());
this.textBox1.Text = sr.ReadToEnd();
sr.Close()
edit:
And looking at Scottgu's Twitter code example, you should be able to do:
Code:
private void Form1_Load(object sender,EventArgs e)
{
string url = "http://www.google.com/Robots.txt";
WebClient wc = new WebClient();
wc.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted);
wc.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri(url));
}
void wc_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Error != null)
return;
string DownloadedText = e.Result;
this.textBox1.Text = DownloadedText;
}
[Signatures] ☎ Create your own mobile devices timeline (phones history) - super easy
Hi,
A new free web service has been just released - Mowned.com.
You can create your own mobile devices showcase (timeline).
As users creates timelines (eg: add phones and year when they got them), some interesting data will appear (such as: appreciations, devices owned by years, etc - for example check this page).
.. but let's go back to the forum signature. You can create easily signature image that can be used in forums, etc. For an example of a generated signature check mine.
Steps:
Login with Facebook - just click that button, confirm the dialog from Facebook then your account is automatically created
Add your phones - the process is intuitive, you will see once you finish step 1
After you added all your phones click "Activate image signature" from bottom of your dashboard
Copy desired BBcode code generated with the signature image
That's all. You can have your signature in minutes.. in the case you remember all the data .
You may observe that some years in the signature are in gray color instead black. Black means that device is still owned, gray = device gone.
PS: phone years is not mandatory but nice to have (for statistics, as written above)
The service can be acccesed via:
mowned.com - users mobile devices timelines
Available signature formats

^^^ Exactly what he said ^^^ I have no FaceBook account. I have no twitter account. I only have a G+ account because I need a Google account for my Android phone to function fully.
I look forward to the day when FB suddenly goes out of business and all these other companies are screwed - why they can't simply create their own log-in - or even better not require one - I don't understand.
Love the idea but why do you need a login in the first place?
I would remove the need (maybe give the option to) to get more people using it.. what's to stop someone else making a site that does the same but with no login?

Yeap, but in future you get new devices so you need to update current phones list (timeline). If the phone's aren't linked to an user account you cannot edit..

I guess sites uses Login/Connect via Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Facebook because:
1) users that are using those platforms don't have to complete registrations forms.. just a few clicks and voila, you have access to the site. I personally prefer to login with Twitter and if I like a site and have this option I would sign in using this alternative
2) sites programmers don't have to stress with users creating process, eg: captcha, e-mail validation,etc.. Plus they got extra information, especially from Facebook, such as interests, etc (mowned.com doesn't store such information)

Login it's needed because:
- phones are linked to an account
- edit phones list in future (eg: add new device, correct device year from - to, etc)
- user-based phone list helps improve the statistics per phone, for example see this link: http://mowned.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-nexus-i9250
- rate phones (for the sake of statistics again)
So.. what's the purpose you may ask? Well, this way we may see most appreciated phones by owners, phones owned by years, most owned phones.. It's true that you need some amount of data to a have a proper view..
I will implement in the next days a solution for login with e-mail and password (so an valid e-mail and password is needed for registration).
Edit:
Has anyone tried this?
Hello,
Now there's the option to sign up with an e-mail.

Seems to work, but I didn't get the timeline signature picture at the end.
Maybe it's because of my username with the underscore => "IT_ler" ?!
Or do I have to wait after creating my timeline before the jpg will be made and provided?
This should be the link for my timeline signature picture:
[url=http://mowned.com/it_ler][img]http://mowned.com/sig/it_ler.jpg[/img][/url]
EDIT:
Now it's fixed and working fine !
It_ler, yeap it was the underscore, the route didn't know about it (only about "-") so an 404 error was triggered. Now it's fixed.
Thank you for the report!
Cool! just don't like the red ad
Thanks a lot anyway!
XxStatiX thanks, now the logo part is tweaked a bit. Indeed it was too bulky and took too much space. + now it can show up to 11 phones instead 10. Do you think it's ok now?
(if you see no changes you have to refresh the page to force a new fresh request - instead it will show from your browser cache)

Just a suggestion to improve.. its nice already.. thank you..
Sent from the MUST have app!
nitubhaskar thank you!
Now the image stretches horizontally (its width) automatically. Eg: if you owned only 3 phones no need to make it 500px long..
Thanks for giving me this idea. So your signature image is 324 x 80 instead 500 x 80.
That's what I could do at the moment. The signatures aren't customizable per user (at least ATM).
Yay its Fixed! Exactly what i wanted,Adding phones now! Wait

Hi,
Now minimal information about most popular mobile phones (from mowned users input) is shown in main page of the site.
I'm thinking to add in near future an option for those who want only to generate signature images without creating an account. This data will not be merged with user phones database, so it will not help/affect the main statistics.

The new interface is fantastic, but I'm going to miss the dark theme. The Dropbox plugin didn't install automatically, but all the rest did. SMB client didn't pick up either of my servers. Other than that - so far so good! Great update!
Incidentally, I don't know if "Girl" is the best name for "Light User" in the Memory Manager.
Also I would have preferred to sign in to Gcloud with my username (instead of email). How can I change my profile picture?

Would it be convenient for you to give us a crash log to recur the situation?
How to collect log?
1. Download and install the Log Collector: http://cdn.appnav.cn/logcollector.apk
2. When FC or crash happens in File Expert, quit and open Log Collector. It will collect log automatically.
3. Send us log.
The Clouds are optional, when you install any of them; it will appear on your app drawer.
Cheers,

[quote name="wuzdat" post=61226356]Where is the Dark theme option? It took you forever to finally add a dark black theme to the original file expert and now its not even part of the newest version... What happened?[/QUOTE]<br />
<br />
Hi there,<br />
Thank you for the precious suggestion.<br />
The new version features fresh turquoise. We'll add dark theme soon after it's official published.<br />
If you have any other feedback, don't hesitate to leave your message.<br />
Cheers,<br/>
Is this dark theme still going to be added back to the new version? I'll have to wait until then b4 using this app again, it was a very long wait b4 we ever got it in the old file expert...
Hello,
Couple minutes ago, I logged out from my account in xda, and when I logged out I saw the account name changed to another user called stratian45646 and I found his account.
I don't know why this happened? Is that a glitch/bug on the xda website or something different going on? Check the screenshot below, it's the moment I logged out and I saw this - when I tried to clicked on the account name to see the profile, a window pop up to login again. Also before that I saw a message saying "a user has changed" but I didn't paid attention since this happened in the past again but I refreshed the page and all was good.

Possibly, but I'm no expert on this. I'll notify someone who can check on it.

This is easy to replicate.
Login to XDA (or any XF 2.2.x forum that misconfigured caching)
Open Cookies in use for the site (via Dev Tools)
Delete both xf_lscxf_logged_in & xf_user cookies
Then browse the forum, you are still logged in but unfortunately your session is NOW CACHED on the server as Guest view
Any Guest visit the site and browse those pages will be serve from cached (but with your private details like unread convo, alerts, etc)
XF 2.2 Admin and Owner here.

Well as I write this, I have deleted the two Cookies you mention and I'm still logged in and able to post as me.
Also, although I can see how deleting cookies can result in odd forum behavior, like the cached guest pages you mention, I'm not so clear on how this would explain the case where logging out results in another user's name appearing top right as if you were logged in as that other user (even if you aren't really logged in as them).

Yes this is expected and I didn't say you'll be logout after doing that.
PHP server or the forum software still recognize you as logged in user.
BUT, pages you visit after that will be cached for guest view as the cache server (Nginx or LiteSpeed) think you as Guest visitor only, this is the mis-configured part.
Sample:
Delete both xf_lscxf_logged_in & xf_user cookies
Visit any forum page (add random query to avoid cache hit):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/oneplus-8t-accessories.11591/post-thread
Now open that same url on Incognito mode or as Guest on other browser
You should be able to access it via Cache with your account logged (when guest should not be able to view that)

Yes, I understand. I thought, (probably incorrectly) that you were explaining how another user's name could appear on the page (like happened to someone several posts up).
I thnk though you were explaining a different issue... the one where a user gets mixed messages about being logged in or out.
