Bricked Sprint LG G3 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've done it . I'm not sure if the LG Flash tool works for Sprint but if so where can I find the firmware files for ZV4? I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Check out THIS guide by fergie716. Pay real close attention to number 17, make sure you change action mode to board dl. Read the WHOLE guide, a few times, before you try to unbrick your phone. HERE is your tot and dll files. You will need to unzip the zip file to get your tot file from it. DO NOT try to use the zip file, you need the .tot file from within it. The dll file is not zipped, so use it as it stands. Let me know if you have any questions. HERE is an image to help.

Trust me, it took me several hours of hair pulling out to figure out that I didnt have action mode set to board dl, which pushes firmware to the circuit board, the other setting seems to be for upgrading firmware through LG flashtool. Many people are changing their build prop without knowing that after you save it, its truncating or shortening it. When you reboot phone, its seeing the shortened version, which softbricks the phone.

Well that did the trick. It toon forever cause i only had a mac to work with so i had to virtualbox windows 7 to get flashtool to work. But for me some of the steps werent in order. The phone didnt send the drivers still i did the unplug for 5 secs. Once i plugged it back in then it i stalled the drivers so i could change the com to 41.but once i did that. It flashed the tot. And really. I like this version better cause the other i couldnt change the boot animation but i saw that this version booted it the international boot animation so i was able to successfully change it. Big thanks to you Joey. Big thanks for saving my ass. lol

[Q] Problem is beyond me

Ok so i bought a phone from a guy on craigslist a couple months ago and everything was fine its a sprint lg g2 that was running a tmobile rom he said never had an issue with it.. today i was working on my motorcycle and i must have hit system update in my pocket :/ well i have been trying to fix this phone for about 8 hrs now and im not having much luck.. first i tried to flash a new rom but couldnt get the drivers to be recognized by any computer i tried.. so i resorted to the flash tool and thinking i had a sprint g2 i downloaded the stock sprint .tot and dll. files the flash tool thinks my phone is a d801at so i downloaded the appropriate files and flashed again and it worked flawlessly i thought now the phone just force shuts down and reboots and if you lock the screen it reboots i have tried flashing it again and again and also preforming a factory reset from the phone im lost and dont know what to do if you could lead me to water i will drink lol but im lost and dont even know where to begin please help as i need my phone
someone please help...
if the build.prop was edited to make it think it was a different phone other then the sprint lg g2, you would have to fix the build.prop then re use the flash tool and tot it back to sprint stuff. You may have to flash a zip in recovery (if you have custom recovery), to fix the build prop. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed on the computer and try different usb ports and cords as well if the drivers aren't installing.

You had a Rom called "Justin's Rom" on it. Many people had this issue. Take your SIM card out, go back to stock using the flash tool, root with auto rec, then flash cloudystock.it works for tmobile out of the box.

[Q] Sprint LG G2 LS980 - no data, no signal, PLEASE help

Here is my OG post...please, anyone, help me to know what YOU would do in this case. I'm freaking out that I have a $500 paperweight I can't take back to Sprint because I'm rooted and on a custom ROM. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Please help me, anyone. I am freaking. I flashed this ROM per the instructions (no I did not do a backup, my fault). However, although the ROM loaded, it told me I needed a T-Mobile SIM for WiFi calling to work. That may have been discussed before. That is irrelevant.
Since flashing this rom (Yes, I did the ROM, Modem, Reboot, and Firmware as said)...I can only make "Emergency Calls," I can't connect to data, can't connect to Sprint cell signal, and for the first time I can't get LG Flash Tool to work to get me back to Stock.
Can someone, anyone please tell me what to do? I need my phone soon because I'm leaving, but nothing works!!!!

Hi if you have LS980 you need to download room for LS980 here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2754167
Than you need to boot into recovery twrp and than you need USB OTG Cable here is the link on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/13cm-Micro-U...item35d4da865d
Copy LS980 room zip file to to flash drive connect to your phone thru recovery mount usb otg than flash ls980 zip
You will be back on Sprint and after that LG Flash tool will work to if you needed

Thanks again for your instructions and help. I got the OTG, followed your steps precisely, and it SAID it installed Stock ZVC successfully (twice, actually)...yet it still will only boot back into TWRP. In download mode, LG Flash tool still doesn't work. This computer has all drivers, Windows 7, and had no issues before this ROM.
Do you have any other ideas? Now I've bought a cable for no reason. Help, please!
__________________________________________________
EDIT: I used these instructions to get me out of the TWRP Bootloop:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2451696
Now I have the Stock Rooted ZVC Odex ROM installed, but STILL, no data, no signal connectivity. I try to update PRL and it says authentication error. I try to make a phone call and it says "Emergency Calls Only." This stuff ONLY happened after this (TMobile ROM). Please help me if you can. I've made major progress with your OTG instructions and getting out of the OTA TWRP Bootloop. Now how do I get past the "authentication" error and get the data and signal restored? Can Sprint do that from their side?
Edit # 2: I called Sprint, they walked me through fixing the MDN and MSID, factory reset, nothing works. It still shows "NO SERVICE," "AUTHENTICATION ERROR," AND ALTHOUGH IN MDN AND MSD my # is correct, in SETTINGS it shows my old (pre-port) phone number.
He told me to take it to a Sprint Store but clearly I can't because I'm rooted and on a debloated ROM. Please, any advice is so much appreciated.
Thank you,
BIlly

This SOUNDS like the answer...but I'm missing an EFS backup and these 2 files. Can I get my hands on these two files?
modemst1.img and modemst2.img????
Thank you... http://www.shiftpda.com/archive/index.php/t-12042.html
I've had this problem. I do think this phone can be wonky when using custom ROMs. Some people have no problem, others have constant problems, and some have problems SOMETIMES. There is no right answer so far.
I would just continue flashing different ROMs until something works. This worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775888
But unfortunately now I have the dreaded touch dead-spot.
have you tried to tot back ?

Yes, they did (hence the reference to LG Flash Tools). It sounds likeyour EFS partition got wiped. If you didn't back up your EFS, I think you're kinda SOL. From what I've read it's nearly impossible to get back your EFS data if you don't have the files. If you can find a way to hack it out by using someone else's files, let me know. I have mine from every backup I've done and if I can remove my info from them I'll post them. Sorry to hear about your issue, hope you find a solution.

I think I have great news. I looked in my ioroot folder and found both of the files (3 MB each) that are modemst1.img and modemst2.img.
I created a folder on the Internal called EFS_Backup, and I copied and pasted those two files into the new folder, renaming them efs1 and efs2. They renamed and stuck in the folder just fine, but running the ADB commands didn't work. So I used the flashable EFS zip in TWRP and it said FAILED.
I'm thinking since I have these 2 files I should be able to fix this, right???? But...the thing that's driving me nuts is that LG Flash Tool, no matter what version, will NOT work on my device anymore. Not with either of my PC's.
Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do now that I found those modem files in my ioroot folder?
I feel like this is the closest I have gotten and now I'm stuck. LG Flash Tools never worked on Windows 8. The OLDER versions worked fine with .tot files BEFORE all of this happened, in Windows 7. Now even Windows 7 won't work to use LG Flash Tools, after I created this mess.
Can anyone PLEASE help me take these 2 files and get them to fix my EFS? I really don't know what I'm doing, clearly, or I would have backed up my EFS first. Problem here is probably same everywhere...I've always done this, never bothered with Nandroid or EFS backups, but also never had the issue of only having an internal memory on an Android device. Stupid mistake.
I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered. I have one more day and I can still take this phone back...IF I can fix it. Thank you in advance!
PS: I Have my ESN, MEID HEX, MEID DEC, IMEI, ICCID AND IMSI - ALL POPULATED WITH NUMBERS IN SETTINGS. WHAT IS "UNKNOWN" IS MY PHONE NUMBER AND MY PRL.

[Q] Serious help fast!

ok so heres what happened. forgot my phone was rooted. i tried tmobile ota update. kicked me out into twrp. i messed aroun and bascily now i have no os or anything. i accidentally formatted everything in the phone. its the white 32gb tmobile version if that matters. to make things worse, i use ubuntu 14.04 LTS. no windows. cant even figure out how to get windows on the pc. and no i cant go buy it. noodle budget. i also messed with the fat32 thing and it said unable to make fat32 partition. basicly. its screwed. i need to know what to do about this. i have the lg flash tool, the original .dll and .tot ready to go. but theres the linux thing. everytime i try to connect it to the computer in download mode it said could not mount adroid device or something like that, now it wont even come on for me. i dont know what to do about this. no i couldnt get adb sideload to start, i couldnt mount in download mode, i could get adb to recognise the device but thats about it. i pushed a couple roms to it but nadda. after installing succesfully it just went right back to twrp. i need a video or something that i can slightly understand on how to fix this.
Your best bet is to set up a virtual box and virtualize it. I guess in twrp if you can still get access to it. Is to wipe system and all that fun stuff so it can reformat it to ext4 then try to adb sideload the rom that matches the update as close as possible. The only thing I can think of is that the update messed up partitions so when you flash a rom it can't all fit like it used too.
Sorry if I didnt help I'm just trying my method I had to do when I had my g2

Wow... reading OP was like a mirror into my own experience except I am on W81 I have tried in every way imaginable to fix this issue with LG Flashtool and it constantly tells me that it can't boot into download mode even though it is already set into it. You must have Windows Virtual Box if running Linux, Ubuntu, Solaris, or Mac. Start HERE. It can be tricky for some, you may want to read this whole page before attempting.

[Q] [x-post from LG G3] D851 unroot / restore to stock

I recently picked up a D851 (TMobile). I rooted it, but did not replace the ROM or install a custom bootloader.
Last weekend, the phone started randomly rebooting. Watching logcat via adb showed me several random apps throwing sig11s, after which the phone would give up and reboot. Cycle repeats.
This looks like a hardware issue, as the apps that crash change on each boot cycle.
I arranged with TMobile to swap the device, but they cautioned me that the phone must be returned to an unrooted state.
I've had a hell of a time with it from here. My first try was to install the LG drivers and the PC Suite under a Windows VM, as I do not run Windows at home. Enabling USB passthrough for the phone to the VM let Windows see the phone, but the LG drivers would invariably fail with 'Device cannot start. Code 10.'. Likewise, the PC Suite couldn't find the phone.
Next step was to throw together some spare hw and install Windows 7 on that (a desparate move, to be certain. ). The LG drivers can now recognize the phone, so that's a definite plus. The LG PC Suite, though, claimed that my phone could not be upgraded. Wonderful.
Next step was to try this tutorial: http://www.androidrootz.com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants.html . I was able to get further with this method, but as it begins to flash SYSTEM, it pauses, and then dies with 'We can't communicate with Phone'. End result - I now have a soft bricked phone. On the phone, I see the port - COM41 - appear, and the usb animation starts to spin ... and after a few seconds, stops. It's at this point that Flashtool throws the Can't Connect error.
I next tried following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089 to flash a KDZ. The newer LG Flash tool used here can't create a connection to my phone for flashing.
I've run into a wall here. Any ideas on where to go next? I need to reset this phone back to a working stock state so that I can send it back.

Also - as silly as it sounds, make certain you're using the USB cable that came with the phone. This has solved problems for a lot of people when trying to revert to stock.

I wasn't initially, but I did switch to it last night. Still no go.
I suspect it's either the phone itself (see above: re suspected hw failure), or the PC in question (nVidia chipset on this old motherboard, and I've had more than a few problems with adb talking to phones on nVidia motherboards). I'm going to try Bacardilimon's suggestion tonight, on a PC that has *nothing* nVidia-related in it, before I throw in the towel. As it is, the failing phone needs to be back to TMO by the middle of next week, so I'm all but out of time to resolve this.

Holy hell. That site's links are absolutely infuriating. Anyone who puts each and every download link for software referenced by a howto behind separate timed appearance links that you have to ALSO enter an annoying captcha to enable should be shot out of a cannon - or, at the very least, have their howto ignored by the rest of the world.
Suffice it to say, the quality of that page doesn't give me much confidence that this will work any better than what I've tried already. Since I've already wasted a crapload of time on this project, and more on following those damned links, I'll give it a try tonight, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Is the author of that page an XDA member? If so, please let me know who he is, so I can berate him personally. Thanks.

I'd consider doing that, except as I mentioned, the G3 in question disconnected during a run of Flashtool, rendering it without a working OS to boot to. The phone now boots straight to download mode. The good news is, it's now officially unrooted. The bad news is, it's also officially bricked until I can get an OS flash to work.

Yes he is a member and for every phone that is out their he has its own page doing this for us. If you can't fix your phone with his method then it not the method but you. I have used this for many bricks. It works and it works great. Sorry if he making you do a little typing but like I said u can use his method or keep trying the other methods. Good luck

After going through the painful process of clicking his links, I found that everything I downloaded is the same thing I already had, except for Flashtool - lgg3root's is actually older. Even the TMO firmware for my phone and the dll are both exactly the same, and I checked by running md5sum on them.
But hey, it must be me. There's clearly no other technology-related cause for this issue. I obviously don't know how to follow a howto, right?
Thanks for 'keeping it real'.

Not likely.
In any case, it failed again. The video he did gave me the exact same steps I followed elsewhere, and unsurprisingly, it failed with 'We can't communicate with Phone', after beginning the flash process. There is something else wrong here, though I'm not certain if the failing phone is at fault or the PC in question is causing the issue. To be crystal clear, the flash process starts, and then, at a random point during the flash, it completely stops, and Flashtool eventually gives up and throws the aforementioned error.
Any other ideas? If not, I'm going to have to try another PC to rule that out as the culprit. Sigh.
Mine gave the same error as well as couldn't communicate with server but the flash process continued running and the phone rebooted took about 3 minutes u learned not to touch any of the popups on the screen during flash and sorry I missed the part about no OS I thought you were booting to recovery... Driving while reading not the best idea

Nope, the phone is definitely not doing anything - the usb animation on the G3 completely stops before Flashtool throws the error.
And damnit, quit reading while driving. You can do that later.
Moved the hdd Windows is installed on to another PC with a different chipset. After it updated drivers, I tried again. Flash proceeded partway, then died. Reset phone, Flashtool reststarted flash from scratch, flash died at 15%.
15% is interesting. While I've seen the flash die at various points, 15% is the one that was most often repeated. This tells me the failure follows the phone, not the PC - which makes sense, as the phone has a suspected RAM failure.
At this point, it appears that flashing this phone is impossible due to faulty hw. Hopefully TMO (and eventually, LG) will accept the faulty phone back with no OS, because there's no way an OS is being written to this device ever again.

No problem. There's nothing I hate more than stumbling across a thread where the OP has the same problem I have, only to find it was never updated with the solution.
Good luck man let us know what tmobile says

LG G4 wont start after update

So I have a G4, and I started system updates on it the other day, and now the phone wont boot at all. When I turn it on, it goes to the "system updates" screen with the android guy, and then shuts off. I can't load safemode and I cant factory reset, I'm just stuck. No warranty or anything. Is there a way to erase and reinstall all the stuff on my phone? It's a LS991 model. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I don't care if stuff is erased on the phone at this point, I just want a phone.
Pretty sure the same LGup technique used for upgrading or downgrading before attempting root will fix this. There are about 3 different files you need and a PC with up to date LG drivers.

Ok, so I'm pretty good with computers, but I have honestly never worked with cell phones before. What you just said sounds like a great idea, could you walk me through it a bit more? Do I download the LG Drivers from LG website? And is there a link with the walk through of the LGup technique?
Thanks

If you have a fairly new computer and have connected and transferred data to or from phone you're probably good, but just make sure by installing tge drivers associated with the post about lgup. All links are working, i've downloaded them myself and then backed out. I simply wasn't sure if any version of MM or LL could be used in conjunction with any other. I think the consensus is that because it's a complete overwrite, it doesn't matter. For instance im on vs98628A, can i use the vs98611A tar file to downgrade and then root. I'm just not sure enough to try it. If your phone is not useable anyway, then I would probably go for it. Think there's a secondary route that was easier to brick the phone.
