Rid me of thou - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am loving my rooted G3. I am, however, increasing annoyed by "thou" showing up almost every time I swype " you". Is there anyway thou can think of to remove this cursed word for the word list.

I don't use the stock keyboard, you could either elect to use a third party keyboard, or maybe see if you can edit the dicitonary in the stock offering. I found this link for you (personal dictionary) but have no idea if it works on the G3 as I have removed all of that garbage from my phone.

Try swiftkey or swype instead.

I don't have an issue with Thou popping up in place of You. But instead nearly everytime I type the word "and" it replaces it with "abd"
wtf does abd even commonly stand for?
I've tried checking the default keyboard settings and dictionaries but there's no way to edit the inbuilt dictionary, only the personal ones. And I have not added this word "abd" to it.

I think you will find that is ADB!

It's the new keyboard update. It's crap when it comes to auto correct.
Sent from my LG-D851

Maybe start swiping from Y instead of T?
Regarding abd, swipe from A to N instead of B....
Problem solved, it is a matter of swiping correctly, the same would happen in swiftkey if you swipe the same way...

[Q] Ginger bread Keyboard for our screen

Anyone know where to get the Gingerbread keyboard for a screen our size? I downloaded one of the apk's and its made for a 3" screen or something like that. I love this phone but hate the samsung/swype keyboards.
I downloaded "keyboard from Android 2.3" from the market and I really like it so far.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
i thought the stock samsung keyboard was basically the gingerbread keyboard that came with the phone
I am pretty sure that the stock keyboard is Samsung's take on it. Just like TW, this is their keyboard.
Also I downloaded the Keyboard from android 2.3 off the market. I'm very pleased with it as well
I downloaded it as well, but when you go to install it, there is a warning that says, "...Gingerbread keyboard application may collect all the text you type, including passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal data. Continue?" I hit "Cancel." Is this normal for a keyboard from the market to ask?
I am pretty sure that is normal, of all the keyboards that i have tried in the past they all gave me a warning like that, i think that it is a built in message just for safety reasons but i have never had a problem with it
I saw that too, but I didn't worry too much about it. I don't use my phone to enter credit card numbers or anything like that.

All you have to do is long press in any text box and select "input method" when the option pops up. It will ask you to choose between sammys take on either Swype or the stock Gingerbread keyboard. Hope that helps
If it was in a rom.. Then go into the zip file and open it up.
1. Open ____.zip file. (aka your rom)
2. Go to system/apps/
3. Now look for the keyboard that your looking for.
4. Extract it.
5. Find the apk file where you extracted it and then go to your phone and place the apk file in your phones sd card or usb storage.
6. Install it and it should work.. But idk. If it force closes then its not fit for the screen and firmware
6.

[Q] Which keyboard to use?

I'm surprised the standard Galaxy Nexus / ICS doesn't have a new line / enter key.
Are there any keyboards that are very similar to the stock keyboard, but instead of a smiley key it has an enter button?
I really need to use new lines in SMS messages. :C
Thumb keyboard is what I use on my tablet because its similar to stocks method of word correction but is more customisable in its layouts. I use stock on my nexus though.

Well swiftkeyX learns from the way you type, so if you end up typing any different way, it'll try to "push" you in the direction it expects you to be typing. You get a more narrowly focused autocorrect that helps for your every day 100 character tweets and SMS, but hurts in your forum posts (or other long form typing).
I still always wonder why people still use "tap" keyboards when there are swipe versions
I've personally used Swype on my last 3 Android phones and i can't envision me using anything else. It's so simple, accurate and bloody quick.

This.
I have used swype on my past few Android devices and was always SURE that it was 10x faster than any 'tap' keyboard could ever be. Upon the discovery of Swiftkey X however, I was proven very wrong. Swiftkey is incredible fast and accurate. Yes it needs optimization for the GNex but still, it's faster than anything out there at the minute.

I wanted to say something to this effect earlier. I tried swiftkey before swype and they're like chalk and cheese to me. Swype seems so much better.
I use ICS themed swype from here: http://jbthemes.com/djdarkknight/daswypethemes/
Swype is the best
I really dig SwiftkeyX. Predictions improved a lot when I linked it to my facebook and gmail accounts. Never could get the hang of swype but maybe I should give it another try.
I'd like to try swype for gnex. So where do you "download" it? Its not on the market place. I have slide it, which is garbage. Could someone put a link up for swype for the nexus?
Thanks guys.

hey there, this should be the latest...
but what you'll need to do is visit the swype beta page and sign up, you'll need your username and password and enter it when the app opens, this'll then download the GN version onto your phone then install the apk...
Can anyone confirm this?? Sorry mate, I'm just a little paranoid installing some random apk not from one of the moderators...Please dont take offence. Thank you very much for posting it up. I've thanked your post.

Samsung Keyboard Has no Auto Correct???

This is a strange one for me. When typing on the keyboard it doesn't automatically correct typos and mispellings. It does give you options to choose to correct while typing but it doesn't automatically select the correct word. I have yet to figure out how to make it select the correct word automatically. Any suggestions?
Wondering also...
searched but didn't found.
on the market i used Jelly Bean Keyboard from VLLWP wich does it.
But it's a shame to install it on a already JB phone.

And with another keyboard we lose multi-screen functionality and handwriting recognition. We lose sooooo many features just to have this. Its hard to make that jump
You said it! But jump had to be made! Using perfecy keyboard, its very good. If auto correct was there I'd stay
Darn i thought i was just missing the setting lol.. The positive part of samsung's keyboard is you can select the word and correct it with two clicks. That is really nice. It does it much better than other keyboards.

I like it how it is now.
I don't use auto correct, and now if i see that i have one wrong spelling in a word, i can just tap it.
Might make my typing slower, but at least with less errors.

Sadly you just have to switch keyboards.
The Samsung keyboard is the best. I've used Swiftkey and Swype but Samsung tops both. Prediction has become better over time than Swiftkey and I thought Swiftkey was fantastic. I can write almost whole messages just by using the predictive text. I like having the numbers at the top as well as almost everything I need on the front page. I can Swype if I want. Could use a theme.

what I dislike about the samsung keyboard is that symbols like @ and exclamation point, ect... you have to press the button on the right of the space bar then a pop up appears, then when you select the symbols you want, the pop up will not go unless you press somewhere on the screen or you press the arrow down button.

Samsung keyboard is made by swifkey, so the prediction it is the same, they only changed very few features
i am starting to like samsung keyboard as well. not as feature rich as swiftkey or swype individually but it beats both by being able to type and swype. plus the handwriting is quite nifty, it recognises my scribbles quite well and there's not need to change your handwriting too much to accomodate it. just scribble away!

Auto correct feature

I cannot find this feature for the life of me....When I type on my keyboard (samsung keyboard) it will not auto correct what I type. It gives me the option to go up and pick the word on the predict line or whatever. But I want to be just typing along and if im off a little it will auto correct to the word it thinks im going for without me having to pick it. Bc unfortunately im still kinda bad at typing even with all this real estate.
Sent from my Galaxy Note II
This is a short coming of the Samsung KB. It has suggestion but not the auto correction you seek. I suggest the stock jellybean KB. Then switch to the Samsung only if you wish to use the handwriting feature with the S Pen.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Try the swiftkey flow beta (google it). It does swype and autocorrect.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
I just wish the swift flow had numbers on top like the samsung keyboard.
Doesnt seem to be a solution exactly as you seek. You'll probably just have to get another keyboard off of the play store, and hope for the best when an update comes out.

Is anyone else liking the Note 3 keyboard?

I come from Swype and recently Swiftkey and find that the Note keyboard is not bad at all.
I'm very surprised to be saying this but I am enjoying it very much. Started using it to test the one handed operation as my fingers couldn't reach the "A" key with ease and have been using it since.
The engine is Swiftkey so I guess is the similar with Samsung twist. I love the fact that I can type in multiple languages simultaneously w/o having to change.
What keyboard are you guys using? What would you change or add to it?

It would also be nice if you could do the "ctrl C" and "ctrl V" to copy and paste as you do in Swype.

The keyboard was one of the things I was looking forward to. Having a dedicated number row is nice. I had a note 2 keyboard mod on my gs3. Really liked it.
I am loving it, I am honestly liking it more than swift key.
I love it too, but have your guys'/gals' swiping predictions been all over the place? I'm constantly having to un learn crazy words I have never and would never use. Thinking about going back to swift key for this reason.
Btw, when I typed that, it suggested " fount beak" instead of "going back." ..rly
Edit: gonna try turning off live prediction, which might be theculprit. ..and turn on learn from Gmail and messages.
new keyboard
I'm finding the new keyboard to my liking. Having the numbers there without having to go into a sub-keyboard is really great. I like the size of the keys for when I use my fingers, and the keys are a good distance when I use the stylus too. :good:

Hit this thread and install xposed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467958
Launch the app and select framework then install framework.
After you have it set up, tap download from the main menu, then find the Samsung keyboard short delay module. Download and install it, then enable it in the modules menu. Reboot and it should be active.

Glad to help. Have fun with the note.
I really liked this keyboard and I WOULD LOVE TO USE IT but a couple things that im not sure i can let go from swiftkey. 1) the longpress duration (im not rooted yet) 2) i have my predictions backed up via cloud with swiftkey so it already knows my "language" and 3) WHICH IS THE BIG ONE, I LOVE swiping back to delete the word with swiftkey. This saves me so much time, I wish I can get that on this keyboard because I really like it and it seems to type more accurately. Swiftkey skips the 1st letter if i type the 2nd one too fast, and thats never happened to me on any other phone just this one. Anyway, sorry for the novel

I like it a lot. Especially the numbers on top. I installed the official Google Keyboard from the Play Store too. I like the big buttons on it, and if it had numbers on top I'd probably use it as default, so for now I switch back and forth when I feel like it.
I love the new N3 keyboard. The only thing that's bothering me is the small space bar. I also can't seem to find the setting that hides the symbols on the keyboard. Is there any way to get rid of that on the r mobile USA version?
