Out of curiosity I booted into recovery. I have not done any modification to my tab so it's not rooted and have stock recovery. I accidently went into "apply update via ADB" now it's stuck at 'Now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload <filename"...'
How do I get out of it? I don't have any file to send. I tried pressed power button for 30 seconds but nothing happens. Please help!
Got it! Power + Volume DOWN for 10+ seconds. Phew! I thought I had to exhaust the battery.

The Power Button does not work in bootloader or recovery mode to select anything. I need S-On and Unroot to stock 2.2 before I bring it to sprint.
Does anyone know how I can do this without the power button? I am on Aman RA 2.2 recovery, is there away to "select" beside the power button?
Here is what I can still do:
- Use 'adb reboot recovery' to get into recovery mode but power button does not work to select "update from zip"
- PC36IMG.ZIP will allow me update via up and down button
I tried:
- rename unrevoked-forever-son.zip to PC36IMG.ZIP or update.zip but phone doesn't ask to update on bootloader
Idk, my thought is you will have to load the RUU....
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
adb shell "recovery --update_package=/sdcard/(s-on zip name)"
it will hang once it finishes, you should be able to ctrl+c out of it and go from there
Yea or just bring the phone in with the broken button as is. Unless im not understanding something, they cant see the rooted rom if they cant turn on the screen. Unless they like call it or something...
I have the same problem. Did you ever get yours fixed?
it just vibes 3 times and nothing? I can get into Rom Manager recovery but why can't I using regular method???
Rooted today using unrevoked....then load Rom manager 3.0.0.8 made recovery from that and now I can't even boot in the Vol up or down + power?
If you pressed vol + and pwr you put it into debug mode. Pull the battery and then do vol - and pwr, it should boot into the bootloader.
Same issue as the O.P.
I press PWR+VOL DOWN and get it to the screen that shows hboot, recovery, fastboot, etc.... BUT I can't access Recovery AT ALL. The VOL UP & VOL DOWN keys do absolutely nothing.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Found the fix... had to remove the p5 img from the sdcard that was used to root the HTC TB. If you don't remove it, the phone automatically tries to load it.
I'm having this problem too only I can't boot into my phone at all. I loaded nerozehl's latest kernel and can't get back into my phone. It just comes up saying "Process system is not responding." I have the radio on the root of the sdcard but don't know of any way of getting it off.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: And I just remembered that I could do adb reboot recovery. Whoops...
I try holding Vol- and Power when rebooting, but it doesn't work. I installed ADB with root and choose to reboot into recovery, but I get a green android character with a yellow ! inside of a triangle. What am I supposed to do from here to get to recovery? I tried vol- and power and it doesn't work.
Am I supposed to have a certain recovery file on my SD card to initiate the recovery prompt? When I try to do vol- and power from being turned off, nothing happens.
I'd appreciate any help, I have to return to stock to send this phone back and I haven't done this in ages. ;x
I've tried to put recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-espresso.zip as update.zip on my microSD and it still won't work. Fairly certaiin my recovery image is broken, I don't have a nandroid backup, what can I do?
Lol, when you get the screen with the android you have to press Vol up and power at the same time. Try that.
I have been having issues trying to update my rooted zenfone 2 to 40.168. I found out that I am unable to get into recovery since I have been trying to update. I was able to enter recovery mode before during and after I rooted my phone. When I try to enter recovery mode, it does not go to the error android anymore, instead it goes back to fastboot screen. No matter how many times I try to enter recovery mode, the phone just reboots. I have tried unrooting by uninstalling xposed and unrooting through supersu, but this did not change the fact that I can not enter recovery or update ota. The second method I tried was using ADB sideload: once I got to the step to enter the code 'adb sideload file.zip', it did not recognize the command. The third method I tried was clearing the cache with fastboot format cache but it said permission denied. I just recently attempted another method of updating ota while rooted but still no success. In fact I think I made it worse now because my phone has just randomly rebooted three times within about 2 minutes of being on. The last thing I tried before I am getting these random reboots was steps to apply OTA manually.
I followed these steps..
Download the OTA file from here, check under ota update heading [get the latest one ,check the version number]
rename the OTA zip which you download to "MOFD_SDUPDATE" zip[verify with this pic], paste the renamed zip in external memory[not in internal, tried to place in internal but it didnt work]
now power off, Once it is off, hold down the volume up button and hold on to the power button until the phone vibrates. After the vibration stops, release the power button and continue pressing the volume up button until the green Android robot appears. You should see a blue line below saying "Waiting Fastboot command" ,Now here click vol down till you see Recovery mode in top big rectangle box,now click power button, and thats all it will update your phone..
I have nearly lost hope and I am thinking about a full reformat of the device if I can even get to settings and restore to factory without it randomly rebooting again. I did not need the latest update however I wanted it. Hopefully someone here can help me.
UPDATE1:
Somehow the random reboots have stopped while I am typing this. Just fyi.
UPDATE2:
So I tried to flash the prerooted img of 168 to my phone via fastboot but every command I entered, I recieved permission denied. I still continued with every command and after I finished I wanted to reboot normally to see if it changed anything. I ended up getting my phone stuck on asus boot logo screen(or bricked).. I just booted into fastboot again and attempted to enter recovery mode again. Now recovery mode is actually doing 'Installing system update' like I wanted it to before but it didn't till now!.. It is making progress and is about 1/4th complete so I will keep this thread updated.
UPDATE3: SO that did fix it. I guess I had to brick my phone in order to fix my recovery lol. Now I am going to try to root this 168 version. Thanks for no help people I didn't need it anyways
You're welcome, remember we are all at your beck and call 24/7 (we even have a TARDIS to go back in case you need our help and no one is available) Just hold your breath while someone pops back to help you...
Glad you got it up and running again but seriously, you ask for help and fix it yourself in less than 1 1/2 hours... How many people are available to help you in that time, we all have lives too...
Hello,
Recently I got my Device updated to last firmware, and since after all problems started to appear.
I tried to Download last firmware from the page and to manually install it but failed since mobile is not PC can't read the mobile on USB. (zip file doesn't contain recovery.img or system.img)
When I use recovery from boot screen it shows the logo and stuck
Mobile is not rooted or anything, if there's anyway to recover it, I'd be glad to hear it.
zc500tg boot loop
same problem for me after the last update
I can't enter to recovery mode. tried some combination like volume down + power , vol up + power , vol up + vol down in "no command" page but i couldn't see the recovery mode options
hey I found the solution
1. Turn off the phone, either by regular shutdown or by removing and reinserting the battery.
2. Hold volume up+power button until phone vibrates.
3. Phone should boot to Bootloader Mode. In this mode, volume up is select, volume down is "OK".
4. Using volume up, scroll to Recovery Mode and press volume down to confirm.
5. When you see the "No command." icon, hold power, and press volume up once to access Recovery Mode.
6.download the firmware zip file . place the firmware file on your microsd card and insert it to the phone.
Go to recovery mode>choose apply update from sdcards>choose the firmware you copied earlier>then wait for process completed.
If the installation completed choose reboot system firmware.
The asus logo loading will take upto 7-8mins so be patient.
I'm pretty sure he said he had updated to a later ROM, and the bootloader unlocking isn't there(last version was v39, i think).
OP, if you can, try to reboot to recovery mode, it should be able to let you connect the phone as MTP(storage).
Upload an older ROM to the phone, and then use the recovery to update it with the .zip you uploaded.
Hope it helps! Good luck!
