android bluetooth keyboard doenst capitalize with shift key - General Accessories

The shift key on this Bluetooth keyboard doesnt do what its supposed to. I know that Android recognizes it because when i press it i get a small triangle under the cursor when im typing. Ive tried several IMEs and none fix it. Ive even manually mapped the shift key using USB/BT Joy Center. So Android sees it and doesnt use it. What gives. Also, Ive only tested it on this device which is a Toshiba Excite 7C running Android 4.2.2. Im using an iPad keyboard called ZAAGmate. Please any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I do have root permissions so altering the keylayout files is an option.

Are you sure it's just the Shift Key? I have a keyboard that does't recognize any key combinations (like Ctrl+C) which work with a USB keyboard.
My thread is here.

Not sure if this is your problem, but many cheap BT keyboards don't process two simultaneous key presses, like the ones mentioned. You can use Shift Lock to get a capitalized letter and others have a special key for Ctrl and Alt.

Start bar on keyboard

hi guys , i know this might seem a strange question but like most my stylus is loose in the holder and i sometimes need to use the keyboard to do most things on the unit and i cant find anywhere that activates the start option on the screen. I have done it by accident once but nothing since. i have checked the manual and it mentions it no where all operations seem to be around the stylus?
does anyone know what key combination it is ?
I have a 02 phone and unlike tmobile which has a one of the 4 buttons on front setup to do this as one of the defaults.
cheers in advance
It should be ctrl+escape on a full keyboard. It might also be enabled by the windows or context menu keys, not sure what your keyboard looks like.
You can use my VJKeypress to get this as well. I think it's keycode 91, not sure, check my website.

Im talking about the blue angel, xda 2s keyboard thanks you for reply im not talking normal pc keyboard it does not have ctrl esc or alt on 02 xda 2s keyboard
Sorry! I've never seen a BlueAngel keyboard

Why not assign one of the hardware buttons to do this, each one can have a duel function assigned either a tap or hold, according to the phone, in reality this doesn't work (unless anyone knows different - latest O2 ROM - not messed around with), whatever you set for a tap is also carried accross to the hold function, go to settings and locate the power buttons icon select it, then select the button you want (ok for example) then assign the <Start Menu> from the drop down box, press OK, the device might want a soft reset (mine did when I just tried this), when it comes back up hit the assigned button, and use the four way thumb control to navigate through the menus, it saves sliding out the keyboard and it becoming loose - Mike
cheers for this when i tried to reassign buttons before like the camera it wouldnt let me change them ..i hate the camera button getting accidently caught same as the record one as well.
cheers for the advance will do that would just like to know for my own peace of mind as well how to use the keyboard to do it, it should be possible.

Multipress on Universal keyboard.

Hello, I was wondering if there's anyway i could press and hold on to 2 buttons simultaneously for my Universal (Dopod 900)
was playing some games till i've realised that i could only hold on to 1 button at a time. (eg. i can only hold Up or Left instead of moving diagonally)
searched for "keyboard fix/hack" in this forum as well as modaco's forum but having no results, tried 6700's multipress hack and it didn't work as well.
any clues will be appreciated. thanks.
it is possible, as you can press the function or shift keys and another one at the same time
yes, but however, it doesn't work on games. that require any two keys other than function or shift key to be pressed simultaneously. then again, i'll be googling around for a fix.
It's been discussed on here before, and IIRC the people with knowledge of the Universal's hardware said that this was a limitation of the Universal's keyboard driver. Unless someone is willing to attempt to write a new keyboard driver (nobody was last time) this will always be a limitation.
Note that you can press a keyboard key and another button (e.g. the backlight button, or direction keys next to the screen) at the same time, which is awkward but does allow you to do multiple keypresses in games (with some practice!)
I think a better approach for the universal would be a macro-like program that allows one keypress to act as more than one. So, for example, you could program 'E' to be 'WD', 'C' to be 'DX' etc. and so give you an 8 direction d-pad. Maybe there's already some software out there that can do that, I don't know...
was looking for something like that as well. so far with no valid.

'OK'ing and 'X'ing an application from the keyboard.

I find it frustrating when I've been working in the keyboard that to accept it or close it down that I have to move up to the top right of the touch screen.
Is there a way to do it from the keyboard (my old mda 2 had its own ok button). Assuming not can code be written that does the job via the Fn key. Say Fn then X.
you can probably use rhodium keyboard controller and map something. everyone swears by that program but i never got it working. the att version has an ok button anyway.
Of course the hardware button on the front of the phone does "Ok" but if you want to specifically close, yes you need something else.. I still use AEButtonPlus myself for stuff like that, but the keyboard controller would likely be able to do it too.
"Rhodium keyboard controller" works excellent!
And yes, it is possible to remap so that a button works simililar to an "Ok"-button. I use the letter-symbol-button as "Ok". The Ok often works as closing the program ("x").
I haven´t found anything corresonding to "x" but haven´t really missed it either with the above solution. But it would be interesting to know it there i such a function.
Good luck!

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard for Galaxy Nexus

Hey!
My question is: Can you connect a keyboard to the Galaxy Nexus through bluetooth? If so, any suggestions?
Thanks.
I have an HP bluetooth keyboard meant for the Touchpad that works just fine on the Nexus. Not sure about others, but the functionality is certainly there and it works great. Kind of felt silly typing on the keyboard for a text message, but it works.
My Freedom Pro worked in HID mode without drivers. Unfortunately I broke the power switch so I'm waiting on a cheap HID roll up keyboard from Amazon as I don't want to shell out for another Freedom Pro..
Interesting. How was coding on it? (if you did any)

Didn't really do anything strenuous with it tbh, I always found the Freedom Pro a bit small for comfy typing, hence trying a rollup next. When needs must i usually break out the Transformer...
Well the cheap silicone keyboard has arrived and works a treat with both Transformer and Galaxy Nexus - no drivers required for either.
It's a ricco (www.ricco.tv) purchased via Amazon for GBP £19.99 with free delivery, pairs as a Soniq CBT100.

shift key not working on bt paired keyboard on gn ics
i bought a bluetooth keyboard at fry's along with an mhl adapter and hooked up my gn to a tv. my magic mouse pairs and works beautifully but the shift key on the keyboard doesnt work.
the keyboard is a lower end, 35dollar, bt keyboard designed for ipad/phone pairing. everything works great except the shift key. i've read that its because the shift key doesnt 'stay on'. this makes sense except that the CAPS LOCK key does work.
this makes me wonder if i coule remap the caps lock to be the shift key, i never use caps lock anyway, and apparently that key has the 'stay on' function. although, then shift would stay on until it was pressedagain which is silly.
does anyone else have bt keyboard shift key issues. should i just go return this keyboard for an android one. i cant put a question mark otherwise i would..
I got the XOOM Bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo for 40USD when Motorola had their New Year sale. Works wonderfully, then again it's an Android keyboard. My Nexus is always ready for some MHL tri-action.

I know this is an old thread but I've been Googling around and it just lead me here so here goes...
I've just bought a rollup keyboard, mouse and MHL from Amazon and so far so good.
The keyboard has a key with a little square in it that is presumably meant to be that annoying button on iPhone that doesn't do what Android users expect it to, and that is mapped on my nexus to the Home key.
There are plenty of other buttons (plus the Fn button) that don't do anything, so I figure I can edit the keymap to make a button for Back (aActually esc is back) Recents, Search etc. Then I can run in Expanded Desktop mode while it's on the telly.
Anybody able to give me any pointers?

[Q] bluetooth mouse

hi guys,
I am using a Bluetooth mouse with my note 8. The left mouse button works as expected, but I would like the right mouse button to work roughly as it does under windows. Is there a way to assign functions ( like copy/paste) to the right mouse button. Right now it will close a window if I press it.
Incidentally I am using both a Bluetooth and a USB keyboard( with the docking station) and many of the keys don't work as expected. For instance, the escape key will close a window. Is there a way to assign a function to a key?

Hi guys,
Just giving this a bump. It has been here for a week and no reply. Please let me know if there is a better forum for these types of questions.
Last I tried my wireless mouse I had the same issues which I think are either android related or touchwiz implementation. So rightclick works as a back button however if you hold left mouse button for a while you should get the context menus or what ever you expect rightclick to do. Not ideal but works. In win7 I get same behaviour with my wacom tablet pen.

i think its an operation system issues , how to react on right mouse click.
i use a mouse on my n5100 when i need to connect rdp to my WIN7 desktop,
and there, right click works just fine.
i think, if you want to call context menu with right mouse button on android,
(which is done by long clickin), maybe try searching for apps that control those kinda functions.
