apps wont install due to not enough free space, but i have plenty - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

See screenshot. My phone looks like it only has 550MB free but it's barely using 2.5GB.. so should have plenty free. Market isn't letting me install anything and giving me an error.

Are you using clockworkmod recovery?
If so the missing space is likely being taken up by nandroid backups that you’ve made. Clockworkmod hides the backups it makes in the internal SD card unless you chance the backup location in settings. And for some reason the files don't show up in the stock storage graph.

Cm6 internal memory

I've just noticed that I have run low on internal memory on my incredible and I have nothing rly installed on my phone and all my music is on the sd card
Is there something wrong with my phone or is it the rom?

I am searching and searching for this problem but no one really has an asnwer... Why cant anyone help us out?
I have a stock unrooted Droid Incredible and have installed about 20-30 free apps from the market and I am getting this low memory error.
I go into "settings/sd & phone storage" and it says:
SD card
Total space
7.39GB
Available space
4.83GB
Internal phone storage
Total space
6.46GB
Available space
6.41GB
Phone Memory
Total space
748MB
Available space
572MB
The only way to correct the problem is to uninstall some programs.
I have moved all the apps that I can to the SD card.
As it is right now, if I install an app, I will get the "low on memory" error and I will have to uninstall something in order to try something new.
I dont want to start a new thread so I figured this one was the closest to my problem.
SO PLEASE help me with this.
I dont really want to use anything other than stock rom, been there done that and had too many probs with little things not working(on a different phone).. I would like to keep it stock..... For now anyway... lol
Thanks for any comments...

Open up a terminal and type "df -h" - post the output if it isn't self explanatory.
This assumes you've rooted the device.
Nope, I haven't rooted it. I guess I should start reading about rooting.
Any links you might want to share for an Android noob? For rooting of coarse.
I come from windows mobile and I never had to deal with "rooting". We just had to "unlock" our phones.
Thanks

Go to the development forum and check the sticky threads. Particularly, the thread with links to other helpful threads should be useful. Pretty sure you just need to run unrevoked forever, flash a custom recovery, then the rom of your choice.

[Q] App updates eating my Internal Space

Hello guys, i am having a problem, last night my Adobe flash player automatically got updated, it was previously a system app which was done with titanium, after it got updated, i integrated it into the rom like before.
however i lost 3mb in the process i tried cleaning the dalvick catch and i used sd maid also to delete any dead apps but both did not find anything to clean.
I tired uninstalling it and installing my previous version via titanium backup, but sill i have lost 3mb, Any ideas to how i can retrieve my internal space back?? now I have turned off the automatic updates. thanks.

Were you having the previous installation of Flash player in the sd card?
No, it was originally from the market.
Seriously, you are complaining about 3 MB?
Nevertheless, back to topic: When system apps are updated, the updates are always installed to /data partition. Don't know why, but this gives you the possibility to uninstall updates, which could not be done if updates were installed to /system.
SwiftKeyed from CyanogenMod with Transparent XDA App
Whenever my internal space starts to get low and some of the applications have been updated more than once I uninstall them and the re-install, it seems to be that my phone is storing data after every update so updating straight to the most recent version seems to take up less space.
I dont know if this is 100% correct but it seems to work for me.
Its not about 3mb, thats one case, if several updates happen then you will have no internal space. I dont have a table for my desire, after all my main apps installed im left with a limited 25mb of internal space so every mb matters. il try that aswel TheDarkenedPoet though. thanks for replying

Cannot install ROM Manager newer version...

Somehow I can't install newer version of ROM manager from Google play store...
Check the screenshots, what's the problem...? :/
Thanks if you can help..

EDIT: PLEASE don't keep my old threads alive!
Screenshot isn't showing up for me.
Is it saying you're out of storage space?
Try clearing your market data.
Settings>Apps>Play Store>Clear Data
This will change your market settings back to stock and remove your recent market searches...
But other than that you won't lose anything and it might remedy the situation.

I uploaded the screenshots via my Galaxy Nexus and just noticed it's not showing them.. in market it said: ERROR: "Insufficient storage available", i can install other apps but not the ROM Manager!
I should clear market data and cache but I'm not sure does it help because it just can't install this one application and I have 6 GB free memory, I gonna clear market data and then I try to install it again.
But Thanks anyway for the reply!..
Edit: now I see the screenshots, sometimes it takes time to show them, I don't know why..
and still it doesn't install it.. little bit weird..
People who get this specific error don't deserve the answer.

Once i did that, i was certain that all my apps were in the SD card but when i looked at storage they were all saved under the phones built in SD..
Apart from that.. all of a sudden it won't let me download any apps what so ever from the internet.. it comes up with an error telling me i have NO space and to delete some apps.. i have 8gb of EXT SD sace and 6gb Internal SD.. so why cant i download a 50mb app????????

Try factory reset. I've never had that issue before. I've been reading the forums and the external memory on the gs3 and note 2 among others can be tricky. There are mods that can be applied that help issues with expandable memory. Tread lightly, and carefully is the only advice I have right now

Try asking in the Omega ROM thread then. Might be something specific to that ROM. Alternatively, go back to stock.
did that as soon as i posted, but to be honest im thinking about getting rid of omega rom, i quite liked it stock but obviously rooted.. what would be the best rom for that? to have it stock but rooted and be able to remove bloat ware?

Go back to stock and add latest firmware
Root it
Use titanium backup to freeze or remove bloatware or use ROM Cleaner v1.1 AROMA
Stock, root and bloatware free :fingers-crossed:

I agree.
Also, before posting in the Q&A section, go to the rom's thread and post the issues prior to asking here. Also, Galaxy Note 2 should have about 16GB of internal storage.
And you didn't mention what brand of SD card you bought. You may need to check that product issue prior to problem, also, when you use App2Data, I would suggest you restart your phone after using App2Data. Also, you may need to check your apps' data for any extra data. Some apps may download extra data and store it on your phone without lettting you know.
i was using a Sandisk 16gb and it worked perectly fine, all these things seem to happen out of nowhere. When i tried to use apps to SD it would never shower up with movable apps so i treid moving them using MY FILES.
When i downloaded a music software on my computer the phone wouldn't show up either when plugged in.
thanks for helping tho ive waited quite a few days for help
Apps2SD doesn't work on JB, so you probably messed something up whilst trying to get it to work.
what can i use to move the apps in to the SD then?

Root Storage Space VS Unrooted Fire TV

I noticed my legit Fire TV unrooted on the latest firmware has 4.09 GB of space after root - yet my rooted ones are at 3.79 GB
Can anyone tell me why this is? I noticed the Cache is taking a lot of space...
Do you ever let the screen saver run? I've observed it download 400MB worth of images unless turned off. Clearing the photos app cache seem to reclaim the space.
That ironically worked and yes - i leave it on all the time LOL.
Also do you have "CaptivePortalLauncher" showing under apps with the android icon? Wonder why this shows but on non-rooted it doesn't...

My rooted box is still on the earliest boot menu-compatible firmware. I think the captive portal app showed up on the stick since this March.

Thank you everyone!
I am rooted using rbox pre-rooted firmware. I have swapped internal storage to my ssd. Everything works great, however when I revert back to internal storage the available storage shows only 787 mb of space available. Even after I do a factory reset from CWM recovery. Am I missing something as far as maybe having to wipe system? the storage available should be a little more than 3.5 gigs since there are no user apps installed? Does the swap to external leave data from the swap somewhere on the Fire TV?
any help would be appreciated.
