[Q] Cant copy files to external sd card - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What the title says, i cant copy music or pictures from internal storage to ex sd without a pc... Why is this?

Most likely because you're running a 4.4 rom. Google: "new app permissions in Android KK".
You should still be able to use the stock file manager to copy files to/from your microSD, but user installed apps can no longer freely write to the microSD.
You need root to get around that.

Is there a stock file manager? And i know you cant mess with apps anymore but its really annoying that i cant move my music around, when i download a track, it goes to the phone storage instead of ext. So i have to move it, but i cant without a pc which is really really frustrating

Don't know... I have the VZW M8 but can't remember if it had a file manager on stock. My phone was on stock for about 45 minutes after I openend the box...
Root or flash that baby!

I am on CleanROM since day 1 and have not had a single reboot - ever!
Don't know which rom you tried, but if you are S-off, just flash a custom recovery and then flash SuperSU in recovery to root your stock rom. Then you can apply the KK SDcard fix from the Play Store and you're back to 4.3 behaviour as far as app permissions are concerned.

[Q] samsung keypad + font installer hangs

I have a small problem i installed font installer from the market and now after uninstalling the keyboard is stuck on the font that was last installed by the app. I have gone through the root of my sd to find the apk from which the keyboard is installed and cannot for the life of me find it. I thought maybe if i could find it wiping cache and data on that apk would remove it. If there is anyone out there that may be able to help i would greatly appreciate it.
As seen in pic its only the keyboard. Also kote that swype keyboard and gingerbread keyboard are both the same as the system font for some reason its only this keyboard and that is it.

Flash your last back up from cwm?
Or try to install the app again and set it to the default font then uninstall it.
In the future use the built in flipfont.
Deebo took your bike too?
Hey there everyone. Here is the story in list format.
- Got first Galaxy S2 (Tmobile)
- after a few days rooted the phone using odin
- uninstalled bloatware via titanium back up pro
- installed a few apps(fb, twitter, swift key x, mobli, two different font changers)
- everything was running smoothly until i actually installed a font and the app prompted for a reboot.
- i reboot and the booting process freezes at the bootloader logo (tried countless times)
- i enter recovery mode to wipe phone.
- wipe phone.
- same issue.
- i thought then that the phone had some sort of issue in itself.
- i take the phone to tmobile a few days later and tell em some bs.
- get my new phone.
- root it again same way.
- uninstall all the bloatware i want gone and install all the apps i want.
- again SAME thing happens when i install this font changing program.
the program downloads previews for 146ish fonts. you select one. it actually downloads it and reassigns the default font with the font you download and after a reboot it should work.
except i get a frozen bootloader screen. so this time around i am convinced of the app somehow messing with the bootloader settings (etc...)
soooo...i decide to flash "SGH-T989 UVKID // Insecure // Root // Busybox" by bubby323.
odin says its successful, but still same freezing issue at bootloader.
help please.
Your problem is with the ROM. Boot into recovery, mount USB, put the ROM on your SD card and flash it from recovery.
Also, stop using that app

i do not have an external sd card, so is there any other method? i can always go and purchase one tomorrow. there is no way for me to put the file onto the internal sd memory because windows never recognizes the phone because it never boots up.
and trust me, i learned my lesson....never downloading that program again.

There are drivers posted in the dev section, be sure to try and download them again.
Your phone's "/sdcard/" location is actually an internal SD card. So when you use CWM to mount the sdcard, it will mount both the internal, and external SD card if it can. So you should still be able to do it.
as you said i was able to mount and copy over the rom, but after i copied over the rom file, it does not show on the android cwm file menu. maybe if i restart the phone?ill try it now.
still no go the rom file is not showing, the drivers have been installed. i reinstalled them JUST in case.
maybe i'm doing something.
- i mount usb storage
- copy over rom tar files
- unmount and look for it in the apply update from sd card and install zip from sd card selections but both show no files.
alright well after a few hours of trying a million different things...the only thing that worked was eaglesblood rom via cwm mount. thanks romanb for helping.

Moving items from internal to external sd card

Just looking for a definative answer. One I didn't know about the HTC one m8. I'm in the process of rooting the phone be doing it later when I get home. But I downloaded viper Rom anyway to have it on the Phone to save flashing time. It downloaded onto internal memory as normal. But I cannot move it to my external ad card. Using es file explorer. After a little searching from what I can grasp is I have to do it through pc. Is it true
I also found out that I can easily do it after rooting. But if I root I loose the file. Yes I know I can save it to pc and transfer later but I find it strange I cannot moves files like normal on any other phone and this is me coming from the galaxy s4

Why do you lose the file after rooting? All files stay intact after rooting on my device. It's unlocking the bootloader that wipes everything.

[Q] Help me with media issue?

So i was on g2 apps v5.5 rom for some time when all of a sudden my media stopped scanning, i wasnt sure why, rescan media apps werent working either, so i decided to flash a new rom and i chose candykat, since then all of my files that i used to have, pictures, videos, etc have completely vanished. i cant locate the files in 7 zipper, es file explorer, and media scan apps still bring me nothing. Yet my internal storage still has the same amount of space used that it did before, and also when i go into CWM and choose install a zip it shows all the folders and things that i am missing, but that is the only place i see the folders but i dont have access to my files from cwm. Also i have noticed that when i am on 7zipper looking through files my internal storage says storage/emoulated/0 and i have no idea what the emulated is about, if anyone has any info or knows what im talking about please to help, Im not too great with phone stuff but i am okay, so if anyone has any simplified steps to give me on how to fix this issue it would be appriciated, thank you.
No answers anyone?
Just do some searching mate. And use ROOT EXPLORER and give it access.

The way Kitkat makes the "SDcard"/"Internal Storage" directory is different from how it was on Jelly bean. <--EDIT: By this, I mean that the directory path is different.
The card is reading that X amount of data is on the card, yet you can't see it because your files are technically still there, but under the old directory path.
There are a couple of ways to fix this, but the EASIEST (IMO) way is to first restore a JB Nandroid backup (you can backup your KK ROM first if desired). First thing you'll notice is that the files will be there again. Now, plug your phone into your computer and copy all the files to it.
Reboot into recovery and format the internal SD. It's best to do it from within recovery, because otherwise, JB will just recreate the JB file structure and immediately start saving stuff to it. So when you get to KK, there will once again be the old structure hidden and with some files taking up space.
Now either reflash your KK rom or restore your KK backup.
Boot it up and copy your files back to the phone.
*I ran into this same issue after flashing KK for the first time. This is the exact process I did to resolve it.
Another way is to use a root file browser and locate the old directory and copy everything over to the new one. However, I think this might take quite a long time since the phone can do this only so fast.

[Q] Hating Kitkat 4.4.2. Need help finding work around for Dropsync or else...

Since updating to Kitkat 4.4 I've lost the ability to sync files and folders on my MicroSD card.
There is a work around provided by the dropsync developers where you put your files in the /Android/data/com.ttxapps.dropsync/files folder on your microSD card and you're supposed to be able to sync there. However I don't have the 'com.ttxapps.dropsync/files' folder in my microSD card. In fact there is nothing in there that appears to be associated with dropsync. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling dropsync to see if those folders would be generated but they were not.
So I tried creating those folders in there myself and dropping my folders and files to be synced in there as well. When I tried to set the sync settings through dropsync it says that those folders cannot be two-way synced.
Does anyone have some advice for me? I really don't want to root because I don't want to void my warranty, but if there is absolutely no other way of resolving this issue that I may end up doing so.
Does anyone think android will change their minds about this and let apps write to the microSD card in a later update?

Did you used a system file manager app to create the folder (file manager app build in with the O/S)? you can't create with a third party file manager. Give it a try. If that's not working then you need....ROOT!!!

yep that's the system file manager. Tell you the truth, if your sync app already installed before you upgrade then you may have a chance, but if you install the app after the 4.4 upgrade then, most likely it's not going to work...just my observation.

It was installed and set up to sync all my files before the upgrade. It was working perfectly until I updated to Kitkat. Now it's all gone to hell and I'm about ready to root. This irritates me so much.

Yes the link is good, but the files are not up to date here is mine;
1) Download this file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ixx-smp600.zip then unzip, you will see this file CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600.tar.md5.
2) Turn Off Tablet, Hold Volume Down + Power. Follow the instructions on the screen to get to download mode (Odin mode).
Rooting Instructions
1.Flash the CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600.tar.md5 file with Odin v3.09 (put in AP slot, don't change any other settings, click start)
2.Let it do its trick! boot up then go to play store download and install supersu in order to update supersu to the latest binary.
3. Boot back into Odin mode and flash TWRP version 2.6.3.3 found here https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/lt03wifiue/
That's all!

Hi
Just got my TAB S 10.5 wifi. Painstakingly been trying to setup the pc so the tablet can talk to it. And installed ES File explorer so I can simply copy & paste my music to my SD card when ever I want.
But when I came to it, ES explorer will not let me do it, it says it needs to be rooted, which I don't want to do, I did on my S3 but that was purely to installed Viper for android.
2 questions:
Does anyone know if lollipop will sort out this permission problem when it's released.
and if not, is there a way to write to my SD card without rooting?
Many Thanks
At least make a proper effort at posting a subject line in the right sub forum and somebody might make an effort to reply...
Lollipop should fix sd issue i guess. I am running cm12 and have no problems. And theres no way to write to sd without rooting on kitkat or maybe i havent found a way

Kitkat introduced SD Card restrictions that meant apps could only read SD card data without being able to write to them or modify anything. Samsung somehow worked around this with their stock My Files app which allows writing to SD.
Lollipop should fix this by default and open up access to ES again

did not realise the title went missing, my phone is a bit Laggy now and plays up.
Anyway, bit more digging, and I have come across an app called B1 File manager.
anyway, move this to the SD card, and you can write to it's own folder. Then I can assign my media player albums to the sub folder and works a charm!!!!!
And I never tried the stock file manager. I'm still learning what's on here, I've been stuck on jellybean for the past 2 years so there's probably lots on here to figure out.
