Set Handcent as default SMS application not working. When I set in setting as default, It only takes a moment and returned back. SMS goes only to the stock app and Handcent does not work.

B513, but it happens also on B511 and I think maybe on B510 too.
You try to define handcent by default in hancent settings or in the settings > Network > default SMS app ? You can also desactivate SMS app in settings > applications > all > SMS

yes I set it everywhere, but it only lasts a moment
See if your application need an update or try to unistall others sms third-party app or reinstall Handcent
It's probably a problem with the application try another cool sms app like Hello or EvolveSms or send an email to the dev and discribe the problem maybe it's an incompatibility with KitKat but I tried to install it on my p6 (ParanoidAndroid 4.4.4) it work when i change to handcent in phone settings
My version of Handcent is 6.0.5
If you think it's a Rom problem (during the update to KitKat for exemple) and you have this issue with any other Sms third-party app try a Factory Reset (Backup your Data before)
With originĂ¡l android handcent works perfectly, problem is only with huawei B5xx. Factory reset doesnt solve this issue.
Solved: Handcent was disabled in huawei startupmanager.

What files would i need to remove to completly remove/disable the stock text messaging app? I found a vanilla one i like very much and i keep getting double texts in both. D:<

You can turn off notifications via going into the stock "text messaging" app through your apps list and then go into "messaging settings" and uncheck the "notifications - status bar" button.
Then you will only have your new text msg app notifying you.
It still shows up in the new messaging app.

You can delete it from /system/app via root-explorer or adb Or you can uninstall it using TitaniumBackup.
download the app rootuninstaller.
and then uninstall it.
I tried to use system app remover to remove messaging. I still get double texts in my vanilla message app.

last time i had this problem (double sms received). i re-flashed the rom.
btw, i wouldn't remove the stock messaging app through, i think the 3rd party sms apps actually use the system one for the actual work, they're more of a "front-end". just disable the notifications should be fine.
if you install another sms app and now actually receiving double sms (not just the notification), i think there's something else wrong...
Hi all, I use ChompSMS for my messaging, and was wondering if I could use titanium backup to remove the stock messaging app safely? Would I still retain MMS, etc?
If not, is there any way to hide it in the default SE UI? Some app/tool?
Think chomp is standalone, so I would day yes, you can uninstall/freeze it.

no chomp doesnmt offer sms or mms replacement. If you remove stock you wont recieve any texts. You can use handcent though and remove stock that will work fine thats what I got.
Go sms pro is bestone!!
And with this app you can uninstall stock sms app.

+1 for go sms
Thanks everyone. I tried GoSMS, but I really don't like their handling of blacklisted threads. I've been using Chomp for a long time so it's what I'm used to I guess.
I'll try freezing/uninstalling and see if things go haywire. I'll update the thread.
have you tried using handcent? They have excellent cutomization. But the bubbles are so ugly I hasve to use android theme style.
apps like backup Master?
Suddenly I don't get the sound notification (vibration works) when I get SMS, but all the other sounds work fine. I've changed the SMS tone lot of time and nothing seems to be getting it back to work.
Any ideas or help?
Open application manager, find messages.apk, clear defaults/data and set your ringtone agen in sms app settings.
Cheers

Thanks for your reply.
Tried that just now and nope, it doesn't work . Before that I wiped them using TB which also didn't do any good .
Are you using any third part sms app maybe?
Check your volume settings?
Try third part (etc go sms) sms app?
Strange
Cheers

Nope! Nothing special and the sound gone automatically. The phone ring tone, Email, etc. are working fine. Only issue is with the SMS.
As the title says, when I select a new notification sound within handcent it still is the same default notification sound as selected in Android settings. Is this pretty typical? I haven't had this issue with my old x10.

This may be a dumb question, is it possible that although you selected a notification to use the radio selection is still set to use the default? Also which version of handcent are you using?
Hmm I donno exactly what u mean, but no settings are set to default.
I'm using the latest version of handcent.

I've had the notification setting from within handcent revert to the defualt ringtone in the past, even after i had specified a different one. I don't know what else to suggest other than uninstall and re-install handcent and see if that helps. Other than that maybe contact the developer from the market page, as this is likely an app specific problem.
good day, i tried using 3rd party sms apps on my zenfone 2 (2gb ze551ml variant) and it seems that i can't receive sms unless the 3rd party app is currently open. i have tried textra and google messenger, both can't receive sms unless they are open. any suggestions? thanks in advance
I have only used the stock sms app so far, so i'm not sure how well this will work.
Go to settings > more (under wireless and networks) > default sms app and choose your 3rd party app.

I use Hangouts and have no problem whether it is open or not.
I used textra and gosms both worked fine. Did you make them the default app for SMS and enabled notification. I did ran into problems with dual sim for both apps.
