Hello, this is my first android device, so I'm not too experienced with the whole rooting thing. My device is currently rooted with the original firmware that came on it. (Galaxy Tab S 10.5) not quite sure which version is on here or even where to find out. I tried to do an over the air update and it wouldn't let me because the device is rooted, but apparently there is a new firmware version out, so I definitely want to get on that.
How do I go about getting the latest firmware installed and getting my device rooted again?
Thanks!
How you rooted it the first time, just repeat the steps again.
Well to get an OTA as far as I know you will need to un-root and try the update, BUT if you rooted with Chainfire method probably is gona fail, because that method trips knox, and the update is going to fail.
If for whatever reason you can update, you might loose root and maybe the exploit that worked with your current build this time is not going to work.
To find out what build you have, go to settings>>>general>>about device and there it's
That's why once you root you have to block or deny the updates until the people here with more knowledge report that it's safe.

The build number says:
KOT49H.T800XXU1ANF8
I haven't tried it for marks but auto update via Kies should work. Even if rooted. Does not affect root. And does not factory reset. i. e. you get same effect as OTA.

can anyone confirm this?

Ok, I have tried to follow a couple of root guides here in the forums, this one, both on Mac and Win7 (via Bootcamp). I get the device rooted but the, almost immediately, I get Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly after the newest OTA. The error comes almost directly after the last update {Build number: IMM76D.I747UCALH9}.
I am interested in root to be able to install Google Now over S-Voice, Google Wallet over Isis and I would like to de-bloat the ROM. If I can also get CWM on there for occasional ROM backups that would be cool too. But I also want the newest update as it contains the one thing I really longed for in the stock TouchWiz ROM... Screen brightness from the Notifications menu.
Can anyone offer a point in the right direction for me?? I have rooted a Nexus before, but I tell ya, Non Nexus devices are a different ball game HAHA.
There are a number of ways to root this phone, and I don't know which one to recommend that would be easiest for you. However, you never root, then take an OTA update, which appears to be what you are doing. It's guaranteed to kill your root, if not your phone as well. You either have to root the phone and then flash a rooted stock ROM with the latest OTA update, or update your (unrooted) phone to the latest OTA update, and then root it.

Or, root, use Voodoo Root Keeper to back up root, do ota, then use Root Keeper to restore root. But, not sure if that works 100% on LH9 (haven't tried it myself, so I'm not completely,100% going to say it works). It does work on lg1, as i did that myself.

I'm pretty sure I updated the stock unrooted rom before deciding to rooting, like I'm sure it was a good 24-48 hrs before I decided to root. Anyway, I guess I'll go back to the drawing board and do some research.
Thanks for post though!
I'm just wondering if it's safe to rollback the firmware on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5" to the previous one or if it causes some sort of conflict.
I want to do so because I've just installed the most recent one (T800ODD1ANK1 - India) and I can't root it using Cf-Autoroot posted here.
Thanks!
What happens when you try to root it?

Nothing. I did it with Odin and it just reboots to the same old unrooted tablet. All is working fine as usual, but no root.
What botters me the most is that I had Xposed framework installed but now it has no functionality and all the modules I had installed don't work. I would install the previous firmware but I'm afraid of breaking something, with installing older software on top of newer one.
I was able to root the US version of that ROM (T800XXU1ANK1) using CF Auto Root from Chainfire:
http://download.chainfire.eu/473/CF...uto-Root-chagallwifi-chagallwifixx-smt800.zip
Perhaps give that a shot???
I will but the India version has a more recent changelist (which was the reason why I chose to install it).
Thanks in advance.
As I predicted, since the changelist is different (your version has the same as the older one I had, with functioning root, but not with this one), no root.
Does anyone know if it is safe to install a previous version of the software? Like, for example, Cellular South ANK1 (with an older changelist).
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue as the original poster. It says I am rooted, but I'm not because root checker just keeps spinning and there isn't a SU# icon in my apps. I've done this with Odin about a million times before, for some reason on my new T800 (after I updated the software), it doesn't work.
Am I missing a step because I have the same version you have? Extract the file. Load the md5 file into AP. Hit Start. Wait for it to reboot. Right?
Yea root isn't working for me with T800XXU1ANK1. =(
Im assuming you ran Super SU and updated the binaries or whatever it asks, or updated the app in playstore?
Ive done nothing different and root works fine.
I was thinking about another root alternative. I was thinking about downloading the supersu zip and save it to the device or sd card. Then flash twrp recovery with odin, then boot into recovery and flash the supersu zip to get root? Could that work as an alternative since it flashes root in the process?
I just rolled back to T800XXU1ANJ6 and I am rooted.
I just bought a Tab S, and I can't seem to find an answer to a question that relates to this thread. Is there any advantage to updating before rooting?
I can't decide if I should root it now or update the software, and then root. After searching some, it appears that it doesn't matter whether I upgrade or not, but I can't seem to find if there is any advantage to updating it then rooting. Like, is it easier to get the latest firmware that way?

If i am correct, There should be stock custom roms available that are prerooted so you can flash over. As for an ota update, that is faster than being rooted then flashing lollipop rom.
Anyway we have a lollipop rom already built. Its smooth and most things are working. Its really cool and id rather use this than waiting for samsung to get the latest update out. Do you have the 10.5 in or 8.4 inch?

I have the wifi 10.5 inch.
So, you are saying update OTA then root, unless I want to jump to Lollipop (which I do), which in that case it doesn't matter so I should just root and flash a lollipop rom?
Thanks for helping me out.

Up to you If you want to jump to lollipop/CM12, just run flash Cfautoroot( with odin to root) then install twrp and flash the lollipop rom. There is a thread for cm12/lollipop in the development tab s section.
But wait! Rooting trips knox with voids your warranty. Same users has reported getting service from samsung for free of charge from defective units and some had to pay to get defective parts replaced by samsung. 50/50 chance. I took the risk and havent got a hardbrick or anything yet.

Thank you for the heads-up. I've rooted all 6 of my android phones that I've had, so I'm not too worried about voiding the watrranty. Judging by your reply it sounds like there are a lot of lemons out there for this device. Mine seems to be running okay, but I just can't take all the lag that I assume comes from TW and bloatware. My HTC One M8 with Lollipop seems faster and smoother than my Tab S at stock. Although after typing the last sentence, I put Nova on there and sped up all the animations and it is definitely light years faster than my One M8 now.
I think the answer to the original post is that the Su binary was installed, but the op didn't download then update Super su after rooting. You wont get full root until you do as there is no app to handle root requests.
Hello guys,
I'm sorry I created a new thread to ask some questions but nobody responded when I asked on an existing thread. Also, I think you should keep this thread for new users who what to know everything about rooting their LG G3.
So, my questions are the following:
I just bought the LG G3 (D855, runs Lollipop out of the box) and I want to root to it (I've rooted many devices before) but will I be able to receive OTA updates? Does LG has any security feature like Samsung's Knox that is triggered by the rooting process and marks my device? Is there any danger in general?
If later on I decide to flash TWRP and custom ROMs will I have to unlock the bootloader?
Thank you for your time, and again, sorry for the new tread.
I am not sure about the Lollipop version but when I was running KitKat I was notified of OTA updates but when I've tried to run it I got a pop up that update couldn't be applied because my phone was rooted. had to get rid of root than I could update it.

From what I heard a simple unroot from SuperSu app was not even enough, because the stock fw has a counter that is incremented in case you root, and therefore even if you remove root the counter will still prevent you from applying the OTA.

I've flashed a stock firmware and updated. There may have been a simpler way, but I am not an expert.
Again I am not sure if things got easier or harder with Lollipop but to be very honest in the last few firmware updates I did not see anything life changing from LG that would worth the hassle. I think being rooted is much more valuable than the latest firmware updates were.
For me personally anyways

Thank you guys for the answers! :good:
So, LG indeed has a "security" feature that messes with your device. Can someone confirm it?
If the counter is software can't we alter/erase it? Or is it hw-based like Samsung's Knox Warranty Void? If it is hw-based we cannot do something.
I used the KINGOROOT technique to root my SM-T800. I had to downgrade to firmware T800XXU1ANF8_T800XAR1ANF6_XAR (ANF8) to allow KINGOROOT to work.
The SM-T800 is now offering an OTA update. The only detail provided is "Size 39.96 MB" No clue what version it is.
Is there any way to determine what version of update would be loaded?
Would root be maintained?
I have purchased SuperSU Pro, and enabled "Survival Mode", which says it "attempts" to keep superuser access across OTA updates.
Can anyone confirm whether SuperSU Pro's "attempts" are actually successful on the SM-T800?
Once rooted you should disregard small updates.
You never know what this update will do. It could do anything from something simple to locking your bootloader. It won't be the first time people have ended up locked out of their device after an update.
If you really want to flash it, let it download then flash it with FLASHFIRE.

I wasn't thinking of the small updates - I was going jump ahead and flash the latest stock Lollipop (T800XXU1BOE2_T800XAR1BOC5_XAR) Android 5.0.2?
At this point I've got the tablet usable with KitKat - thanks for all your help!
I won't have time to mess with it for a few weeks probably, so I'll defer the Lollipop update till then.
I guess I have already let it download something, although it doesn't say what. However, it is nagging me to install the OTA update all the time. So how can I
1) Capture the downloaded update file?
2) Find out what version it is so I can decide if I want it?
3) Stop the nagging to install the update?
If you're going the whole hog then just flash Lollipop with Flashfire and you'll keep root.
Hi,
I rooted a new A3 (2017) sm-a320fl device for a friend using CF-Auto-Root from firmware.mobi.
However, it turns out that after tripping KNOX and blowing the eFuse automatic OTA updates are now broken.
Is there any way to return to OTA updates?
My friend would prefer to not have root and return to a newly flashed stock ROM rather than not receive automatic system updates. However, I'm not sure if this will be possible at all, now that KNOX is already tripped and eFuse blown?
And if there is no way to return to OTA updates, then what is the easiest way to install updates from now on?
I missed the whole KNOX/eFuse development and went ahead too quickly and thoughtlessly without thorough research and now I'm dreading that there may be no way back to a newbie-friendly device for my friend...
Hope some of you can help us out.
Greetings,
shevtak
Flash the latest firmware available for your country on Odin and your friend will gets updates again without root
Thanks for the quick response - I will try that.
But I'm still curious in case I run into this myself one day: Can you also tell me if there is a known place to get the update files from and install these manually on the CF-auto-root'ed system (i.e. using FlashFire)? So far, I was only able to find complete stock firmware images, but not update files...

I don't recommend using FlashFire for flashing updates or so. With an locked bootloader it's highly to hard brick your phone ?. And yeah the only way to get the OTA's back is to flash the official firmware via Odin. A good rooting method is Magisk, you should try it out!
