So this is the second time it happens with a DIFFERENT hard drive.
While normally using my firetv + xbmc +usb harddrive is flawless. it is the second time that i disconnect the hard drive thinking its idling (fist time) or unmounting the drive (second time) that i lost 150gb of movies. like poof gone, never existed, just free space. i have no clue why this is happening. is there a way to SAFELY disconnect my hard drive so i can move files easier?? and hopefully a way to restore the lost files? i mean they must be there, just the index or whatever is corrupt?
*the second time i unmounted using umount /dev/storage/sda1 without errors in adb. im guessing this is not the way to safely eject the drive...

Let me ask you this, when you click on 'Unmount" in StickMount, does it show you a confirmation that blah blah has been unmounted? When I click on the unmount button, it simply tells me that the active mount is whatever... Same message that I get when mounting.

Yes, you should get a second messsage that says "Active mounts none." You must have root in order to use Stickmount.

My FTV is rooted.
I can never get to unmount my USB using StickMount. I always get the active mount message when I unmount. I do have the option to kills apps preventing un-mount as checked and it has made no difference. I wonder if that is due to the USB powered hub that my USB is in and not directly connected to FTV... Not sure...
Can you confirm that the StickMount is mounting your drive using Partition label instead of device names like sda/sda1/sdb... That is the second thing that has never worked for me.
I installed "USB OTG Helper" and happy with it as it does the unmount correctly. It does not have the partition label feature.
Cant say mine has lost anything..... yet
Using a USB powered HDD connected directly to my rooted FTV.
Upon boot stickmount auto-mounts the drive but clicking the un-mount button does nothing but display the same message that appears when its first mounted...
Is there perhaps a way to tell it to power down the drive?

This is definitely a confusing one on my part. I have my HTC Tilt2 running Android, and the volume options for it and everything are working perfectly. I can hear music being played out of it and all. Thing is though, I can't change ANY of the ringtone options, notifications, or sms reminder sounds. They are all set on silent, with no other options. I look in the /andboot/media/audio however, and I can very clearly see that all the options for sound are still there. I have tried removing Android off of my SD Card to no avail.
Format your card with the HP tool. I think the partition table gets screwed up on peoples cards, and the Windows format doesn't touch the table. Just a guess.
Well, I formatted my SD Card, and... Surprise surprise, it didn't work :/
Maybe it has something to do with a storage file on the phone, idk...

With the HP tool or how did you format it?
Also, are you using the preFRX02 system image or...?
I used the format tool on the phone because I don't have a way of formatting it without it being in the phone since I lost my SD Card Adapter for it.
And I believe I am using... the ProjectAndroid2.2BLAZN.092810 build with the 10/10 update on it.

That's NOT the way I asked you to format.
I even said I think the partition table is what is getting screwed up, and that the Windows format tool doesn't touch the partition table - the WinMo tool would be the same way.
So you lost your USB cable to your PC as well? That's how I always format/communicate with the SD card...

I tried using the USB cable, but I couldn't get the option to format it. It wouldn't come up under the devices for it. Would it possibly have anything to do with syncing it to the PC? Like changing it from using to ActiveSync to connecting with it using the Disk Drive?

Yea, I always select the "Disk Drive" popup on the phone when I want to format/work with just the card. I don't think it'll work in ActiveSync - you'll be able to see the card, but I don't think you'll be able to format it.

I'll do that the moment I can get the Disk Drive to work. Doesn't seem to be appearing up on my computer with that option selected...
*EDIT* Okay, I got it to recognize it under the Disk Drive, but now it won't format. It doesn't even start loading, it just says "Formatting the device..."
*EDIT2* Got it formatted under Windows and using the HP Tool, reinstalled Froyo 2.2 on there, and still didn't have it working. Went through with the Media Scanner though, and it fixed the problem right up. Thanks arrrghhh

Yeah, I know it does, but I was hoping I could get it under settings too, to see how much of music, apps, etc are taking it up.
Or maybe a way I can even mount it as a SD card.

I have made an app to toggle between the two scripts suggested by bazald in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768752
Issues:
1. Only mounts external SD card. This is the limitation of the bazald's scripts. If in future the scripts allow for internal SD card, I'll modify the app for that.
2. On starting the app, the app assumes that you are in MTP mode.

Update:

This isn't working for me, and I'm guessing it's because the mount location of the external card is specified explicitly as /dev/block/vold/179:97 (as in bazald's script). It would be better to cut it from the output of the mount command, as in the (mostly) US-compatible version of SGS3 Easy UMS. To wit, replace
Code:
echo "/dev/block/vold/179:97" > /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun_ex/file
with
Code:
mount | grep /mnt/extSdCard | cut -f 1 -d " " > /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun_ex/file
in the UMS enable script.

Didn't work for me. Tries to mount in MTP mode, then tries to install a driver and fails. It started to install a mass storage device driver at first but then switched, I can't get it to do that again. Would love to make this work.

Yeah windows sometimes messes up the driver part.
"If Windows fails to find the correct driver, go to the Device Manager and manually set it to use the driver, "USB Mass Storage Device". It seemed to try to stick with the MTP driver in my case."

I'm running Jellybro's CM10 August 4th nightly on my AT&T Galaxy S III and it worked fine for me.
Can't mount internal SD card after using app
So I'm probably doing something wrong, but here is what happened.
Starting from a rooted stock ROM, in MTP mode, I ran the app and turned it "on". The external SD card popped up with no problem.
I was able to load my music etc. and it worked great (thanks for that).
After I was finished I unmounted the SD card from my computer and turned the app "off". I disconnected the phone from the computer.
I reconnected the phone to the computer, selected PTP mode and my internal SD card showed up but only for a second. I could not access it. I switched to MTP mode and it didn't work (as expected since I am using Linux). I tried every combination of off/on, MTP, PTP I could think of and nothing would give me access to the internal SD card.
As a last resort I ran the MTP.sh script using gscript and everything went back to "normal". I could mount my internal SD card in PTP mode.
I manually ran the Mass Storage.sh script and the external SD card popped up. All good.
Did I screw up something in using the app in the first place?
Thanks for the great work. I just want to figure out if I should have done something differently. If you need additional info let me know and I'll send it your way.

I tried it on my machine (windows 7 64bit)
1. Connected phone in MTP mode
2 Launched App, and turned it on. SD card showed up.
3. Ejected the card. Got a notification on phone saying MTP needs to restart. Clicked OK. Phone showed up in MTP mode again.
4. Switched to PTP. Worked perfectly.
The only thing I see different is the MTP restart notification. Just wait for it before you disconnect.
Thank you very much! works great!

How did your SD card get corrupted by the way?
I think it got corrupted because it was mounting and un mounting to my car when I was removing and plugging in the phone while playing music. But since then, I can't get it to work. I can't try the mass storage trick because I don't even get a device on my win 7 to try it on. The mtp device disappears and nothing new comes in when I hit the on button

Hello Guys and girls,
Is there an option on the Huawei Ascend Mate wich allows you to charge the phone with the USB cable.
If I put the cable in my computer it always goes to my SD-card, HiSuite, Camera (PTP) or Media (MTP).
But I don't want to connect to the computer, but I want it charging.
It's still charging if it's connected, but all my music is on my SD card, wich isn't mounted at that time.

mine automatically checks the last option...
so the sd card automatically unmounts and mounts to the pc.
it wont mount in pc unless one of the options is clicked. let it remain with the far bottom option 'remind me'...
if its mounted on pc, just disconnect from the icon in the pc taskbar (commonly in green color icon for usb connection)...it will simply mount back to the HAM automatically....
its one of a safety function in most of phones today without any option of "charge only"....sometimes the excess currents can effect the sdcard (there were some news before about it)...
and yes, its not samsung, its Huawei and this Huawei devices mostly lives longer than sammy...just my 2 cents..

On my Mate it always mounts as "USB Storage Device" even when the "Always prompt me" option is checked. I've also noticed that it no longer mounts the internal storage just the external SD card. When I look through the file manager on the phone I noticed that the internal storage used to be located at mnt/sdcard and the external SD card was located at mnt/sdcard2. But now both mnt/sdcard and mnt/sdcard2 point to the external SD card and the internal storage is now located at mnt/shell/emulated. Does anyone know how to fix this so internal storage mounts on my computer again? I'm using a Mac.

Then why were you trying to use stickmount? That has nothing to do with what you are doing, it is used for otg.
Just plug the tablet in, install the drivers, and that's all there is to it. If that's not working, then you either have a driver issue, or usb ppt or cable issue.
