Hi! As stated in titel, I want to disable vibration on boot and shutdown. Before froyo, it used to vibrate only when starting, now vibrates also in shutdown.
There is a small app called Silent Boot which disables sound on boot even though the phone is not in the silent mode. App that I am looking for is an app similar to it but also has ability to disable vibration.
Additionally, although "haptic feedback" option is deselected, it is still available in the stock calculator.. annoying. I want to use vibration only on incoming calls, nowhere else.

Vibration on start / shutdown - How to disable?
Is there a solution to do that?
Would also like to know this. Bump.
Me too, no idea why they included the shutdown vibration in the Froyo update. Pointless?
Ehm, just curious ...
What's the problem with vibration during shutdown and boot?
I hate the boot sound MORE because it affect other people ... But, I "fixed" that using Tasker easily (no root required)
Sorted out the boot sound issue thanks to "Silent Boot". Simply, personally, I find vibration much irritating on such. Pointless..

I understand. personal reason etc. however its not pointless. If the phone takes more than a few seconds to shut down the screen goes blank but the phone is still "shutting down". This happened alot on 2.1. Phone would take 10minutes to shut down. you had to keep turning on screen to see if it was off yet or still 'shuttnig down' The vibrate now gives a positive confirmation the phone is off. not just screen off.
Ok I see the function as well, but it would be better if this was left for user to decide whether or not to use it; as kind of preference.

Its probably going to be more hassle than its worth disabling it. Though I really can't see why it really is a problem, do you like shutting your phone down a lot? I can't remember the last time I actually turned mine off or even had to restart it
If you root the phone and bake a custom ROM you can get rid of it - the latest MoDaCo ROM has this 'feature'
Personally, I like the boot sound/vibrations
I was considering that there might be a tweak, an app etc. which is not requiring root and/or cooked rom as well (like as Silent Boot) now I see there is no way out.
Yeap, this is a matter of taste...
BUMP
Believe it or not the noise of the vibrate has woke the person next to me up more than once. I need it gone.

Well, afaik, the FroYo update has removed the shutdown-vibration.
The Boot-One is still there though.
shutdown vibrate annoyance
turn on haptic and set the vibration level to zero, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) this also disables all vibration alerts.

I'm just baffled at how a 16 month old thread gets revived...and to what purpose??
You coming to OneX or what?
Does anyone know how to keep this off? It keeps coming back on, I believe when i go from silent to volume again with the volume rocker. I'm not rooted and don't want to be.

Not sure being rooted or not has anything to do with it. Mine has done this once (rooted) and not sure why yet. After disabling it hasn't come back and done it yet.
When in sound settings screen does the option recheck itself when you toggle the volume rocker?
Also, how long has it been since you rebooted the device? Might try unchecking and then rebooting and see what happens. Just a thought.
Just stating the rooting thing in case someone had some funky way to fix it that required rooting. And yes the option re-checks itself every time.

Might read through this thread if you haven't seen it already: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-s-iii/204714-touch-sounds-turning-back-itself.html
So from that thread it seems there are 2 possible causes for this glitch:
-switching camera modes (unrooted)
-turning off camera snapshot noise (rooted)
I'm not rooted and have no option for turning off the snapshot noise, so i toggled my camera from vid to pic and it did immediately re-check the touch sound option but only the first time. For several tries after it didn't do it, only the first. I did change my camera mode earlier which if it is the cause of this glitch then that kind of proves it. I will be mindful of it if I change camera modes for verification, but It seems weird to me the camera is tied to the touch sound option.
I can confirm that the camera will cause this to happen when you switch between still to video mode. I know that I have seen (heard) it happen under other circumstances as well but I have not been able to pin it down.
I do not know of a solution for the unrooted phone. I am rooted so I went in and replaced the sound files with a silent file to permanently disable the sounds.

Help! On my 4th (yes FOURTH) malfunctioning S3 and the soft keys will not light up nor do anything. No haptic feedback, no action, no light, nothing - it's like they are not on the phone.
I have tried all the timing setting for the soft key light duration to no avail.
Instead of getting endless refurbished phones from Asurion, T-mobile decided to send me a brand new stock S3 but.....
....my problem is that I can't back up my phone as all the backup options require you to use the the left hand soft key to access the menu options!!!!!
Can anyone help me with a workaround? I don't want to have to root it if possible as I'll have to unroot it again to send the bad one back.

What app are you using to back up? Titanium does not require the use of softkeys to do this.
Button Savior on the app store.

So close and thanks for the suggestion but no dice - both button savior and virtual button need root for the menu. SO DAMN ANNOYING that the devs left this out (and apparently it wasn't a limitation, they assume people don't need it!)
This might be the way to go but I can't find an app that allows use of the menu button.
Any other suggestions people? I'm going crazy and I really don't want to have to root and unroot just to back my phone up.

Unsure how to phrase this diplomatically, so beware...
Rooting is a hurdle for you - but it's an imaginary one for me and everyone else. Flash a recovery, root it, do what you need, TriangleAway, unroot it. Unsure what the issue is.
If you need stock recovery downloads, they can be found, They are on my Dropbox, I just don't link them. Or you can Odin. There are countless ways to achieve your goal. Why you are refusing them all, I do not understand. You can 100% undo a root. And if you are currently residing in the UK, as your profile suggests, you are in the wrong forum. And the files in my signature are not for you; don't flash them.

i know what you're saying but I had to do it several times before and it adds about a good 2 hours to the whole process. It's not bullet proof either as I had to triangle away several times on one occasion to get it to work.
I did however find a solution:
Using Button Savior to give me a back button, I found that SUPER BACKUP does require use of the menu button at all, and it also backs up all Apps, contacts, SMS, call logs etc. Then all I had to was copy and paste all my images to storage card.
I honestly don't know why someone hasn't made a app with a virtual menu button - if you google "soft keys not working s3" you will find literally hundreds of threads as it seems to be a common problem. I know someone would have got my $5 yesterday if it existed.
You might want to look into ADB Backups using a computer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36499906
At first I thought I was the only one suffering from this annoyance, but then I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgvTFu6UKJI
See, the problem is that whenever I send or receive a message, this icon pops up. At first I thought I was delusional, but then it repeatedly became clear that this was truly a bug. I managed to get a screenshot of it (which was really difficult considering that it only pops up for about half a second). I want to know if I anyone else has had this issue, and whether or not someone found a workaround from it popping up. Anyone at all?
Are you using Hangouts?
Nope! Stock everything, and unrooted. Using the HTC messaging app

This bothered me as well, but I have since gotten rid of it. Granted that you're rooted, you can download an Xposed module called NotifyClean. It listens for "notifications" in the status bar, and you have the option to disable them. Download/install/activate the module, turn on the listening feature, and send a message. When you go back into NotifyClean, you'll see "Data Usage". Select that, then select "Data usage is running". It should highlight the selection in red, and ultimately get rid of the little annoying icon that shows up for a split second.
It seems that I'm not the only one having an issue. Well hopefully there's a better work around for this because I don't plan rooting my phone for a long time! Flashing roms and tweaks could be addicting haha! Hopefully someone finds a better fix to hide this annoying notification!

Yeah, take it from someone that flashed a ROM today and every mod/tweak I could find... it gets addicting. I spent 8 hours at my computer today going over various mods and personalizing my phone. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to help with your issue that doesn't involve root. If you know what is causing the notification then you may be able to go into settings>apps>all and disable the offender?

I managed to get a screenshot, and I checked what app was causing it but it was a system app called "Data Usage". Anyone know how to turn off data usage notifications? Turning off data usage alert doesn't help
This is normal behavior. While it shouldn't be popping up, its normal as in that it is what is done when a SMS/MMS is sent while on WiFi.
You can locate the app through Application Manager and tap it to Disable Notifications. This doesnt require root or anything.
Taking shots in the dark here, but there is a data usage section under wireless & networks in settings. In that menu there is a toggle for 'alert me about data usage'. You can then drag a slider up and down to set the cap for when your phone warns you about data usage. Maybe yours is dragged to the very bottom so it alerts you about any data usage?
Unlikely because it would show up during everything, but worth asking. Maybe just disabling the notification toggle would work. Also, does your carrier ship with specific software to monitor data usage? If so then check all of those apps settings to see if anything has any effect.
It doesn't matter whether or not the wifi is on, it still annoyingly pops up. I meant that you really can't disable notifications as it is a system app

I read its some type of traffic usage. Someone here posted a picture of it here. Also I have an option on the ROM I'm running to hide that notification. O don't think its carrier IQ but then again.
So, I've been extremely dissapointed with the speaker volume of my G3 (Sprint) and am tempted to root just so I can change the volume settings. I was using GPS the other day and found it ridiculously hard to hear. Considering my S3 from 2 years ago had a louder volume I'm perplexed... Headphone volume and especially Bluetooth volume are also extremely low.
So, came to the trustry forum and learned about Stump Root. Knowing Android L will be coming to the G3 (eventually), if I do Root via Stump Root will I still receive the update or will I have to revert back to factory?
While I'm here I thought I'd also mention something else that's been bugging me on my G3 that's been available on the Galaxy S3 forever...
When I use the pulldown option and enable WiFi or Bluetooth I don't get the menu showing me what connections are available. I still have to go to settings, bluetooth or wifi to find the available connection. On S3 when I turned it on it would connect to my default and if default wasn't available it would open the menu of available connections. I sure hope they bring this into the G3 eventually. Not a deal breaker, but a lot of extra clicks to get onto a network...

I've read that if you root then you will have to go back to stock to update. No mention on if custom recovery was a factor.
On my g2 with root and twrp recovery if you tried to update you would get stuck in recovery. Had to go back to stock and get att to push several ota updates.
Still no one has answered me on if it was because of root or twrp installed on that phone. I am debating on rooting the g3 also because of this reason.

Most likely there will be a custom rom with Android L before LG's official release... So then you can get Android L "faster" with root basically.

How to change status ROOTED to UNROOTED on Download Mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715114
I have been coming across posts that some people are successfully updating with pc suite and not losing root. I myself would rather just remove root and then update and repeat root.
Reason being is because:
1. I haven't seen any info on what version update or model this is working for.
2. On the g2 even with same model and version update it seemed that everyone had problems without flashing to stock first. Not everyone had the same outcome though. Some proved to be pretty extreme. I came across a few that were lucky to come back from a hard brick.
So, being that the outcome is unpredictable, I would stick to the method that we know works. I wouldn't take that kind of risk with a device that even though its very popular it hasn't been in the devs hands very long.
