I just got an HTC M8 from Rogers and got a couple OTA updates and now I am on software number 2.23.631.2. I have looked through the forums and have not found anyone else on 2.23. The android version is 4.4.3 and the baseband is 1.19.21331147. I thought the latest firmware was version 2.22.401, how do I have 2.23.631.2?

Should I be concerned with rooting it and getting it S OFF because the firmware is 2.23 rather than 2.22?

Root should be fine, using TWRP. You SHOULD however Install TWRP, take a backup using TWRP, then ROOT, and then S-OFF.
You will probably have to use Sunshine but try firewater first. It has a low success rater however.
IF You can, please upload your TWRP backup files to google drive/mega/etc and send me a link for me to host it on my return to stock thread. I will remove your userdata files.
Thanks!

I have the new firmware on my unlocked stock Rogers One(m8) and wondering if I should bother even trying firewater.

Quite sure you can, just find the VZW 4.4.3 firmware and flash it then flash a 4.4.3 ROM. Or if there is a 4.4.3 RUU you could do that as it'll flash everything including firmware, ROM, etc.
You need to be S-OFF to flash firmware or do an RUU though.

Its not clear what you or the OP are asking exactly. If the intent is to "downgrade" to run firewater, then NO you can't do it.
If already s-off, just flash the desired firmware by fastboot and restore a stock nandroid.

This kinda sucks. Broke my original M8 and the replacement came with 4.4.4 on it so I'm stuck with a stock HTC phone. I want my GPE 5.0 ROM back! Stupid Verizon.
So i just returned to a stock ROM on my HTC One M8 and it won't let me turn on the wifi.

go to your bootloader menu and figure out if that the firmware build number is the the same in the about phone in the setting menu

3.28.401.7 is pretty new. It should work with 4.4.4. Strange issue IMO.
You cannot run a 4.4.4 rom. And without being s-off you cannot update your firmware... Yes you may have flashed a stock rom but not the stock rom you were on previously. You will ONLY be able to flash a rom with it looks like 4.4.2 or maybe 4.4.3.

Can someone please tell me like I'm a total idiot on how to fix this issue? I have to somehow unlock the bootloader again, get S-OFF and use a stock 4.4.3? THEN do a software update to 4.4.4?

The second link is the exact link I was following. The only nandroid for Telus is already 4.4.4 so that doesn't help me. I've unlocked my bootloader again and about to gain root so I guess I'll just flash a custom ROM again but I'd love if someone could actually tell me exactly what I'm missing here? If their isn't a stock Telus 4.4.3 I can't return to stock right?

Get S-OFF again and flash the firmware manually. Don't know why you went S-ON and locked in the first place. There is no reason to go back S-ON(Unless you're gonna exchange then it's a small maybe) and when it's S-OFF there is no reason to lock the bootloader.

I was following a tutorial on The Unlockr and he said to go back to S-ON so I listened. I'll definitely make sure to stay S-OFF from now on though so thank you! So how do I manually flash the firmware? I can't find a stock 4.4.3 on Telus anywhere...
EDIT: I'm now S-OFF again and I'm ready to go but I cannot find where to grab 4.4.3 stock with Telus. Would flashing a custom ROM that is on 4.4.3 fix my wifi too? I'm really confused by this whole thing like is Cyanogenmod 11 using 4.4.3 or is it it's own entity or?

Grab the OTA file for Telus from OTA ZIP COLLECTION extract the OTA.zip to get the firmware.zip file inside it.

He subsequently verified this by saying he restored a stock nandroid. But I was pretty sure of that already.

I'm not sure. If you go to Settings>About>Software information you can check the software number.
The Dev edition is going to be 1.32.617.6 or 1.32.617.30. If the numbers match, then it would be fine.

Error 155 is usually a firmware or HTC signigature issue.. just flash the old lp firmware and run the ruu. Gotta downgrade firmware before the ruu will match the signatures.

Cool. So what is the question?
There is some info on the thread about how to downgrade. But to be any more specific, you need to give some info about your phone (fastboot getvar all, and post the results - delete your IMEI and serial number before posting).
Frustrating
This is very frustrating, I can not downgrade due to the firmware issue. Where can I get an older firmware for
a developer phone, s-off and bs_us001?
tpteam6, how did you find yours? I search, but found nothing. Some twrp nand backup stuff.
I've been having this issue for a couple of months now, tried changing roms with no luck, I am currently using the ViperROM latest version, when I input video either on instagram or facebook or snapchat, I get this weird green lines at the beginning of any of them. Weird part is that at the beginning I though it was the phone but then I noticed that it doesn't do it when I use my camera application.
https://pasteboard.co/GImTnWE.jpg
has anybody seen this before? Any fix? thank you
I currently have that issue on any rom I flash as well.
If you are on a old marshmallow firmware then update to the newer nougat firmware and try again. If i recall correctly the issue comes from that combination.
I have that as well. Running ViperOS's Nougat on a Marshmallow OS. Sucks that I can't update because my phone is from Hong Kong and there's no RUU available.

So you want to downgrade to nougat, when you do that you also need to downgrade your rom to a nougat OS.
Oreo roms on Oreo firmware
Nougat roms on Nougat firmware
So if you are on Oreo and running viper oreo the rom will stay when you downgrade the firmware only but the rom doesn't work anymore. So i don't quite understand why you want to downgrade when want to use Viper oreo ?

I'm currently running Marshmallow firmware with the latest LeeDroid nougat ROM.
1. I did some research and for some reason my CID doesn't show up in download mode. I ran some command in a terminal emulator and my CID turned out to be HTC__060.
2. I found this thread but the RUUs seem to just be numbers. How do I know which RUU number is the latest nougat firmware?
3. If I flash the firmware.zip through fastboot without S-OFF (phone still S-ON), will it factory reset and wipe all my data?
Thanks a bunch in advance
