How can I unroot my samsung galaxy s3 AT&T phone that is running 4.3 stock mod rom
Depending on what bootloader you have it might be possible through mobile Odin. I would double check before doing anything. I was able to do so recently via mobile odin. I downloaded the stock firmware which you will find on these forums and flashed.

Of course it didn't work, because there is no stock 4.3 to flash though Odin. AT&T never released the firmware.

well. they said it could not be done. but i did it. i downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1.2. and so far everything is working. i used mobile odin pro. loaded the stock 4.1.2 rom but loaded the modem from 4.3. i have a working phone, sound and network.lets see how long it will work for.
and just let me add virgin s3 sgh-i747m
As far as I am aware it was never said this was not possible with mobile ODIN. Desktop ODIN is the issue because it attempts to downgrade the bootloader which is what bricks the phone. You can bypass the bootloader with mobile ODIN so therefore no bricking.

well maybe someone should post a thread about it. like i did. not something that is 377 pages long and a noob like me wont understand. keep it simple. basic directions and links to downloads. its good that you showed a link to how to use mobile oden. but some people don't understand half this stuff. i'm still learning the basics but could not take 4.3 any longer so i took a chance. bricked my phone 20 times trying different stuff and posted what i finally got to work so others can find it easier.

and the rest i downloaded from sammobile
the way i did it is i loaded the old stock file 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 in mobile odin but i loaded the modem file from the 4.3 that i got from link above. it will not change your bootloader but will give you a mix of 4.1.1 and 4.3. make sure you also select to root devise well updating. and use mobile oden pro. it's well worth the $5.00. it took me all of 2 min. fyi you have to load both roms to your sd card on the phone. and back up your phone first. it wiped mine when i did it.

Flashed MK5 and lost my baseband and IMEI.
Tried another one and kuput.
Once you flash the mk5 bootloader, it cannot be downgraded. Any attempts to downgrade could brick the phone.
SInce your phone isn't booting, you may have to have it jtagged.
I have seen a thread for de-bricking but that looks like it is for the AT&T s3.

Why would it have lost my IMEI?
I saw a method that involved a 16gb SD card...just need to find more specific instructions....any ideas?
If not where can I find detailed instructions to do a jtag? I have access to the tools required.
I purchased an early upgrade to a Nexus 5 and would rather return it and return to my S3 so the sooner the better!
Thanks for the assist!
Jtagging is not simple because you would need to disassemble the phone in order to access the relevant points on the motherboard.
Did the phone boot after you flashed the mk5 bootloader? Did you flash another bootloader after that?
Which carrier is your phone with?
You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
The MK5 bootloader is the stock 4.3 bootloader to Canadian carriers.

So the phone boots? If it does, did you try flashing an updated modem? Try an updated modem before de-bricking.
BTW, I was able to install several KK ROMs using the stock 4.1.2 bootloader. Upgrading wasn't necessary for Validus, Cyanfox, and CM11.

No I tried flashing another one after that because of the no imei/baseband. And now it won't boot. I was trying to upgrade from an older omni 4.4 ROM to the latest one and cwm wouldn't flash the ROM using the latest cwm

Loading an incorrect bootloader can result in a hard brick where the phone needs to be jtagged.

It goes on the T-Mobile 4G LTE Screen, but stays there the whole time.
I don't have any recovery option, only download mode works.

That's what happens when you flash a 4.2.2 ROM which you can still do.. that SEANDROID message doesn't prevent anything so there is nothing to bypass.. I'm coming from an HTC device which required both rooting and flashing an unlocked bootloader, so I'm a bit confused as to the ease as to which it seems this device can be rooted.
After digging though the forums, I have a few questions:
I'm seeing nothing in regards to unlocking the bootloader, so I'm assuming that's not an issue/anything important with this device?
I'm seeing root methods using both ODIN and Heimdall, and I'm at a loss (again, I'm coming from an HTC device) as to which is the best?
What I'm looking to do is have a fully open device (flash any ROM, kernel, radio, etc. I'd like); I understand Samsung has a flash counter (KNOX, I believe), and I'm fine with that (as long as it doesn't lock me out at some point ... does it?); and I'm not sure which method would give me that.

You can root/unroot this device with ease. I believe the only gs4 with locked a bootloader are the Verizon and sprint variants. I could be wrong. But I think those are the 2 carriers that lock you out of your phone. Anyway there's very little chance of you getting locked out of your phone unless you flash the wrong files. Odin is definitely the best way to go for Samsung devices. I've been using it since the vibrant came out.

When you root your phone and start flashing ROMs, KNOX will be tripped to 0x1 but that will just void the warranty. And I just found out a week ago that Samsung says they will still honor their warranty even if KNOX is tripped.
ODIN would be your best bet. I haven't even heard of Heimdall.

Awesome, thanks ... I see you're on T-Mo as well; I was just going to stick with CyanogenMod but, any ROMs you recommend for the T-Mo variant? I prefer a pretty clean interface (eg. no TouchWiz), with little "bling".

I'm a TW man so I couldn't tell you which ROM is better. I'm on insane KitKat. Great ROM!

Not to bash what you are saying, but Verizon, sprint and anything with KNOX keep you from unlocking your bootloader and a locked bootloader is a locked bootloader. Am I locked bootloader right? Lol

Having KNOX doesn't mean the bootloader is locked. The M919 on 4.3 and above has KNOX implemented but the bootloader is still unlocked regardless of what baseband version you're on. Literally the only functional difference is that pre-MK2 firmware you can't trip the KNOX counter as it hadn't yet been implemented..

Oh ok. I got my m919n with 4.3 MK5 and my bootloader is locked. Feom what you are saying, I can unlock it? KNOX is already tripped so what the hell, I'll unlock it.

I've seen a lot of people mention that ROM, I'll definitely take a look once I get my device up and running (damn T-Mo store gave me a SIM card that had already been activated so I have a fancy paperweight until they can release the number so that I can activate it).
Out of curiosity, this the root method you'd recommend (I have a M919UVUEMK2 baseband)? Also, is there a way to flash CWM via ODIN? I'd rather not have to set my device up in order to install ROM Manager just to flash a recovery (I'm basically wanting to root, flash CWM, make a full backup, and then wipe and install a ROM).

Just flash recovery with Odin, and proceed to flash your ROM.. Root is not required

And how are you certain that the bootloader is locked? How was the flag tripped?

Yes that will work. I recommend TWRP recovery. It works very well on our device. Here is the CWM Odin flasable .tar the download link is in post #24. If you like to give twrp a try just let me know. Also if you wanna try Insane KitKat let me know. I'm very familiar with it.

Awesome, thanks ... I vaguely remember TWRP from when it first came out but, it never made it to my old device; I'm probably going to go with CWM for the time being as I'm more familiar with it and I'm already a bit over my head trying to figure out the Samsung way of doing things. Really though, I'm hoping MadMaxx hurries up and releases his updated 4ext which is supposed to support this device.

It could be anything. Even a simple stock recovery change will trip Knox.

Hey, sorry to bug you again but, since we're using the same device, on the same network, think you could answer this question for me (there doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic on that thread these days, and I'd rather not start my own thread with the same question).
