ZVD, AOSP, Loki, HELP?! - Sprint LG G2

Okay, so I think I understand all this, but help me out anyways please. I know that once you take the ZVA OTA you can't easily flash an AOSP ROM like CyanogenMod, and this is because something in ZVA (the radio?) patched Loki, right? So what has to be changed (if anything besides going back to ZV to be able to flash an AOSP ROM? And after doing whatever that is, can I then use Nandroids and Titanium to switch between, say CyanogenMod and the original software that came on my phone? Thanks, just trying to understand how it all works.

Your best option is to tot to zva, put recovery, flash your cm.

Ugh but tot'ing is such a PITA

Aosp are in zva radio firmware. Current is zvc radio with zvd firmware.

Okay so if I .TOT back to LS980ZVA, root with ioroot, put TWRP on with AutoRec, then make a backup and flash CyanogenMod, wipe dalvik, system, cache, and data, I should have CyanogenMod? Then will I be able to restore to that backup to be on the LG software?

Okay, last night I downloaded the LS980ZVA_01.TOT from StorageCow and reset back to stock.
Download LS980ZVA_01.TOT
Open LGFlashTool
Open .DLL and .TOT
Put LS980 into Download Mode
Start LGFlashTool process.
Plug in LS980
Phone is flashed to stock ZVA
Run ioroot
Phone is rooted
Download AutoRec and Install
Run AutoRec to install TWRP recovery
Go into TWRP, make backup
Wipe System, Dalvik Cache
Wipe Data, Cache
Install cm-11-20140810-NIGHTLY-ls980
Wipe Dalvik & Cache
Install ls980_noOC-simple-v5 (dr87's Kernel)
Reboot
Get "LG Security Error"
I tried this in several different combinations from wiping dalvik and cache to not, to flashing Kernel and not, etc. none worked, and when I restored my backup, I was stuck in a black screen boot loop (just notification LED changing colors). So help me out here, please. I'd like to be able to switch easily between CyanogenMod and LG software. I know that I can get CM on ZV8, but I kinda want my Spark.

Can't have your cake and eat it too unfortunately. ZV8 you must go

You need ZV8 modem, and you cannot flash Simplekernel onto CM11. There's not any stable kernels on Cm11 except for the CM11 kernel that is bundled.

Thanks. I finally just .TOT'd back to ZV8 and installed CM11 that way. Ugh that was a pain in the arse.

yea i spent 3 days doing this and bricked my phone bad by nor remembering to flash the kernel and not knowing about the zv8 radio.
i have read other post about the radio and it seems to throttle the speeds of your data more than anything
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/93947-which-radio-to-flash-for-latest-nightly-ls980/.
BTW for others reading you do not have to tot to zv8 just need to flash the zv8 modem.zip along with the ROM and gapps

So, I have stock zvd backup, but when I restore it, I'm stuck in boot loop. Currently on CM 11 with zv8. What do I need to do to boot into my previous stock zvd backup?

Try re flashing the zvd radio had same problem but with a cm11 backup reflashed the zv8 radio and booted no problem

I tried flashing just the ZV8 modem ZIP with ROM and GApps and it never worked. Tried several times. Had to .TOT no matter what. I spend basically a month with a new phone because I had to .TOT so many times from trying just about everything I could. Could you post exactly what you did to be able to just flash the ZV8 modem?

Cm 11 -here
I prefer Snapshots
Zv8 Radio -Here
This link jumps straight to the download thanks to Zack Miller
Full gapps - here
Thanks to the Cyanogenmod Devs
My Setup
1. Sprint LG G2 LS980_ZVC_12.tot
2. TWRP v2.7.0.0 as custom recovery
Make sure that your .zip files (gapps, cm11, zv8 radio) are in the root of internal storage.
Boot to recovery and create a backup of system, boot, and data
Then do a wipe
Then you can (install) flash your .zip files, you can flash multiple at once
Select the cm11.zip first then the zv8radio.zip then the gapps.zip
Swipe to flash
Wipe dalvik/cache
Reboot make take up to 10 mins for cm11 to boot the first time

Reverse
Can I restore my backup, flash the most current radio (I'm assuming still ZVC) and restore to revert back to my stock LG setup?

Help me move from ZVB stock rooted (adriVelasquez) to a 4.2.2 rom

Hey all I'm pretty noob with the flashing and wondering if someone can help me move from the ics stock zvb to something 4.2.2
I'm looking for something stable with minimal bugs and no showstopper bugs to use as a daily driver. I want something I can keep a while without reflashing.
All help and handholding appreciated.
I really don't know what steps I have to take and in what order...
Do I have to reflash the radio again?
Thanks

To jump on the 4.2.2 bandwagon you will need to do all of these steps and depending on the actual ROM might take more really read the installation steps before trying anything and definitely make a backup of your current configuration
Make sure you are on the jb ota (android os 4.1.2) or used the appropriate teeny bin
Must be unlocked ( using freegee... available in the market ), rooted, and using team win recovery (twrp)
Make sure ROM and gapps are on your sdcard
Reboot into recovery
Factory reset
Wipe system (not data/media)
Wipe cache and dalvick cache
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Then reboot and set everything up

I didn't get the OTA update, I updated via flash to the zvb stock JB using freegee goomanager and twrp. So do I need the zv9 or zvb teenybin? That's one thing confusing me.
Or should I revert back to stock ICS, then do ota to JB then do Freegee again and flash to 4.2.2?
Aftyer all this, my next phone is going to be a Nexus.

Okay I got my phone restored back to stock zv8 ota updated to sv9 then zvb
Next I saved a bunch of backups both efs and twrp
Then I flashed my new rom, The very lovely Revolt JB. and after clearing cache and wiping it booted...but....I forgot Gapps...:silly:
Question:
can I flash it over the existing install or do I need to reflash both the rom and Gapps at the same time?
Thanks and cheers
just drop gapps in storage and flash it in recovery you dont need to flash rom again

[Q] Need help flashing CM11 on ZVC

My LG G2 is on the latest version LS980ZVC rooted and latest TWRP Recovery(2.7.0.0). When I flash the latest CM11 nightly and GAPPS, Everything is successful. Problem is when I try to boot it, it won't go passed the LG Logo. I've tried factory reseting it through recovery while the rom is still flashed but to no luck.
I am not new to flashing as I've been doing it since the HTC Evo.
I've tried for the past couple of days searching through this site and the internet on my issue. When the ZVC update first came around there was a thread in the Sprint android development section that explained how flash any rom after the ZVC update and now I cannot find this thread.
Also, When I flash Mahdi Rom, it flash and boots perfectly fine. Only problem is, I get no data and service goes away completely and doesn't come back unless I reflash the rom. But it only lasts for about 5 minutes before it just drops again. When I switch back to stock and I find that I have to go into my mobile network settings and switch from global/wcdma back to lte/cdma in order to get service back.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I tried that as well and I would get 3G data but phone calls or texts didn't work either for me.
Zv8 modem
The CM11 nightlies aren't made to work with the new ZVC kernel and baseband. In order to flash CM11 from ZVC you need to obtain the ZV8 modem and flash BEFORE the ROM and GAPPS. Boot to recovery and wipe everything except internal storage 3x to make sure everything is wiped. Then flash the modem rom and gapps in that order exactly otherwise it won't work. After everything flashes clear the davlik cache and cache 3x then reboot to system. Been using this method since I got my phone and it works everytime with every ROM I've tried. Also for those interested in unlocking US GSM capabilities do this then install an app called Tellinfo, from there you can do everything to change over to your GSM bands and use a GSM SIM card. I've been on AT&T for 3 months now.

Rom won't work.

So i was on the G2 apps added E988 ROM version 5.5 for a long time then i decided to switch and try a new rom out, I ended up switching to the Candykat rom. I want to switch back to the v 5.5 but for some reason everytime i try it just gets stuck and wont boot up so i have to manually go back into cwm and choose a different rom. Does anyone know why? would i have to go back to stock first then re-root and go to that rom? I just dont wanna have to go through all that if there is an easier way, thank you.

Hmm, could be a bad backup. Or could be a problem with the recovery.
Have you tried restoring without data? And if that works you could always restore data in other ways.

CandyKat is based on the E980, while the G2 rom is based on the E988, which has fiff kernel config/modem basebands. So logically the best way to go back to v5.5 would be to reflash the factory stock E988 image, with kernel and baseband already included, then flash v5.5.

Sure, go to this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438088. I recommend that you download a kdz file of your chosen country of origin, then afterwards follow the KDZ guide within this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2432476 (also provided on the 1st link) courtesy of Hyelton. Then on the guide, best way to proceed is using method 1 (Authomatic VBS script).
Once you master the art of flashing via KDZ method it would only take within 10 minutes to flash stock kdz files, very convenient, especially when softbricks occur.
After you successfully install the stock E988 kdz file, you may opt to root using towelroot by following this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785465 (just install towelroot app, open it, click and you're good to go). After rooting, install cwm 6.0.4.5 via this app:https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...DB2BC3A6!107 .Then install the recovery using the app then reboot
Next, install Busybox from the playstore, then afterwards, install Freegee. Once on freegee, You can install cwm 6.0.4.7 or twrp successfully.
Then from there flash your rom. Instructions sound tedious but once you get used to it you're good to go in minutes

[Q] TWRP On 4.4.2 ZVD Stock

For those who have flashed TWRP from AutoRec on Stock 4.4.2 Rom, please let me know.
I need to ask something from you guys.
I used AutoRec. I haven't flashed a ROM I have made 2 backups and flashed a kernel. What do you need to know. My opinion however is AutoRec is absolutely the smartest most effective route to date! ?
Currently I have the same set up. Stock ZVD and used Autorec to flash TWRP. Which works perfectly fine, my only issue is that when flashing any ROM I'm stuck in a boot loop. Its a clean flash. I wipe system, data and the caches. So what am I doing wrong. So far I've tried CM11, AOKP, Affliction ROM, and also PAcman all resulting with a bootloop of the LG logo.
Cm, aokp and oyhwt non stock ROMs require zv8 radio. Affliction was zvd based but should work even with zvc radio.

Sprint LG G2 (LS980) - How to install CM13 roms - TWRP/Bootloader/Bootloop debunked

Before event thinking about anything, please create a backup of existing ROM.
Why the post?
CM13 is BUMP compatible. ( BUMP explained below)
The Sprint G2 is having very confusing Bootloader and Bootstacks combination needs for every major release of Cyanogenmod.
e.g.
Initially we had to have ZV8 modem for CM11 without it we had bootloops
We were confused with LP-loki and LP-BUMP bootstacks before using CM12.1
I got bootlooped twice doing the upgrade, so I thought to share the experience to save you from such touble and make step-to-step guide for you to help to jump to the amazing Android 6
What we need -
Bump TWRP Recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/twrp-twrp-2-8-0-0-kernel-f2fs-tools-t2898705 (Thank to blastagator )
Hybrid Bootstack - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/boot-g2-hybrid-bootstacks-t3183219 (Thank to daniel.stuart14 )
CM13 based roms (few recommended below)
Resurrection - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...on-remix-m-t3271114/post64315465#post64315465 ( Thank to varund7726 )
crDroid - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-crdroid-t3120790 (Thank to firebird11 )
waiting for Bliss 6.0 from Team Bliss
Gapps for 6.X.X ( http://download.dirtyunicorns.com/files/gapps/banks_gapps/ )
Why to update TWRP?
CM13 is BUMP. If you are like me and used FreeGee to downgrade aboot, for installing TWRP, then you are on JB bootloader which is Loki based.
Loki is synonyms to JB bootloader & BUMP is synonyms to Kitkat Bootloader.
So if you flash this ROM with current setup, you wont be able to go beyond Bootscreen LG logo (in other words, you would softbrick) because of Modem mismatch.
And if you flash the Hybrid bootloader after flashing ROM, then logically you should be fixing the above problem but your TWRP, which can be booted on Loki (JB), wont be able to boot behind Kitkat Bootloader.
So we will make the TWRP capable to boot on Kitkat bootloader and then start to play with the ROMs.
So first, Install TWRP-thermal from above link. I would recommend to update your current TWRP to 2.8.6.0 with official TWRP files (https://dl.twrp.me/g2spr/) and then flash the above zip to upgrade to 2.8.7.3
Which Bootstack and what about bootloader?
The BUMP recovery can boot against JB bootloader and Kitkat bootloader. So what you have now can boot on current bootloader. So basically you can restart the recovery with JB bootloader without any problem. Reboot and flash the Hybrid bootstack from above link which takes care of everything. Remember to reboot into recovery after you flash the bootstack.
Now for ROM installation the usual procedure is needed,
Wipe Dalvik, system, data and cache
Install ROM
Install Gapps
Reboot
Few common problems and solutions,
Bootstack failing signature validation - (Checksum of the bootstack-ls980-CAF-signed.zip is : e32c3c4d5ece4749903ef7502485f488 ). So if this is matching, uncheck Zip signature verification and flash.
Google Now-On-Tap not working - This will happen if you have opted for Nano Gapps file which would not have all apps for Now-On-Tap (Just Google app is not enough probably ).
So happy flashing and hit the thanks if you see above information useful.
Let me know if you want any clarification regarding above process or any specific points.
Would this method work on the Stock LP? Also, I am from Pakistan so would I need to do network unlock on the CM13 again or would it already be unlocked? If unlock is required, would the general stock LP unlock method work? Would really appreciate your help thanks for the great guide

Hi,
SIM unlock does not go away after ROM installation so it will be unlocked. The SIM unlock procedure is same for AOSP and Stock roms which involves replacing few files with Root access.
If you have a problem with network (e.g. SIM not able to serch network ) after ROM install then it is a probelm with modem file, which is taken care by Hybrid bootstack in above case.
thank you bro
Only until yesterday i heard about bump loki and bootstack, i installed cm12.1 and 13 on my ls980 without knowing all this and they worked great until y tried to install Resurrection Remix and got the soft brick, i solved my problem with another post but i want to thank you anyway

thanks for the rom. It runs great with the exception of mobile data(3g or lte). I was wondering if there were some recommended tweaks. I also noticed that when I go into the "cellular network settings", the APN submenu among others are gone, although they were there right after the initial installation. Thanks again!

I've got the exact same issue. Just TOTed back to stock ZVG and restored my 3g/LTE connection. Gonna try flashing again later this evening. I'll let you know if it keeps the data connection or not.
On a side note, I did have 3g at one point but have yet to get LTE in ANY custom rom I've tried.

exactly. Same here. I even tried the custom ROMs in the OP. I don't consider having only 3g to be "fully working". I tried AICP, Resurrection, and CM13 above. I'm sticking to stock ZVI for now, because it looks like there won't be any custom Marshmallow development with working LTE.

thanks for the rom. It runs great with the exception of mobile data(3g or lte). I was wondering if there were some recommended tweaks. I also noticed that when I go into the "cellular network settings", the APN submenu among others are gone, although they were there right after the initial installation. Thanks again!

I don't know why APN submenu disappeared but you can try latest build for LS980 from 06.05.2016: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=51135
Mobile data (evdo) is also working! On CDMA - for sure! Thanks to mrlika for great rom!

For all who use CDMA network! In all slim roms (AICP, PA, RR, Bliss, Exodus & other) except this rom (cm13-unofficial) you has working phonecalls (even 1x & 3g network) but NO EVDO AT ALL. I've tried all variants for LS980: only in this rom you has working 3G (EVDO). Also I think its the same for LTE. So I've forget about ZVI & use this great CM13 build! All is working!
I am running AICP, have Hybrid bootstack installed, and cannot get LTE or 1x unless I am on modem ZV8.
Is it possible to run a newer modem (at least ZVG) and get LTE?
Help please!

No! If you restore your partitions after - you have the same rom as before you install cm13! You must restore your sw using backup software like titanium backup. And NEVER restore xposed software settings - you'll have system crashes after... But another steps seems fine.

If you flash 5.0.2 bootstack, then you cannot stay on zv8 modem, because bootstack flashes modem also. But anyway you can find zvimodem.zip and flash it through recovery after; I've tried it myself and have no issues with rom after. But LTE & EVDO you can have ONLY on cm13 "clean" rom - this rom by mrlika. If you flash AICP, bliss, exodus etc. - these roms are 'slim', which means you cannot turn on evdo mobile data (or maybe lte also) in it! Be aware about it, because I've tried almost 10 different roms, and EVDO working only in cm13 by mrlika!

I have looked and can't find ZVI for LS980. I did find ZVH and am running it: it fixed my LTE issue.
Works you mind pointing me in the direction of the ZVI modem? I can find only the update itself, and have not been able to extract it successfully.
Here is ZVI modem. I've put it on my google drive https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_i7PPx6-NrOMHNsdUcyblFhdlU Just flash it through TWRP

Okay just to put this out there... I did exactly the steps I listed in my post and everything worked 100% fine. Also I updated to the latest blastigator 3.0.1-2 after everything, so I can confirm my steps worked! But to add anything important for anyone who might want to know this is what I did before install CM13.
-restored phone with ZVA8.tot (4.2.2)
-rooted using ioroot
-download FreeGee and installed TWRP (while still on stock 4.2.2 btw)
-downloaded cm11 SnapShot
-then I decided to update my TWRP to 2.8.6.0 (the latest available TWRP for lg g2 ls980 from the main TWRP website
-rebooted into recovery and flashed the latest TWRP I installed and rebooted successfully without wiping anything (still on 4.2.2)
-then checked to make sure I have everything I need
-rebooted into recovery again
-went to wipe, advanced wipe, and checked everything except "internal storage"
-then while still in recovery (don't reboot after wiping) flash CM11 and rebooted
-everything worked fine still and cm11 was successful
-went into settings and downloaded the latest CM12 SnapShot and did an auto update after downloading
-rebooted successfully
-then I came here and read on how to install CM13 and did that, and if you follow my exact list from earlier from what I asked, it will lead to success.
~also through the whole process I never installed Gapps except when I upgraded to CM13 (made the process faster) and ONLY update to the latest Thermal/Blastigator TWRP after you install CM13 on the recoveries listed in the main post, and make sure you Backup everything to be safe incase a mistake is made.
/the list I made asking if it would work correctly did work, and aside from restoring from the backup, my list is a simpler version of the instructions from the main post, but I give all credit to the poster and say thanks and I only put their list of steps into my simpler form, thanks!

Lots of useless steps. If you has TWRP already, you don't need flash tot or cm11-12! Just flash latest twrp-blasted, then bootstack-caf + cm13 + gapps! Profit! (As I've mentioned before, bootstack updates radio & aboot).
P.S. ZVA (ZV8) tot you need only in 1 case: if you need to make sprint unlock, before you put another phone number (i.e. then you buy it from smb.). For install cm13 if you has twrp & root also - this is unnecessary
