Haptic/vibration stops sometimes - Droid RAZR M General

Sometimes for some unknown reason my phone stops vibration, for example for typing on keyboard, etc
It comes back when I reboot.
Is that a hardware or software issue?
Thanks

Software glitch, possibly. If it quits doing its thing on keyboard, try running other apps other than keyboard that you know uses haptic feedback or vibrate the phone.

Well, I dont really think its the keyboard, back, home and recent buttons stop too, rebooting its the only solution, but after rebooting haptic takes some time to go back to normal.

Ok. Did you check Sound settings and keyboard settings, with the haptic feedback already enabled? Just need to confirm. Then we can proceed to isolate the issues (Do you have root? If yes, then I will tell you what to type in, for the purpose of finding the root cause of haptic feedback lag or cutout.)

Well, this just happens sometimes totally random.
When this happened last time I checked everything related to vibration and all was as before.
It was happening to me with my moto bravo too but for some unknown reason this just happens when using whatsapp.

Alright, if you have root, try this command with succeeding length of servo time:
echo 100 > /sys/devices/timed_output/vibrator/enable
With 100 milliseconds listed, go in 100 ms intervals, up to 500 ms, that way you could rule out the issues, as some servos doesn't last very long so I want to rule out the stiction (as in stuck rare-Earth magnet in the servo vibrator). Either way, you should be able to tell. If it doesn't feel funny when vibrating, try disabling few apps until the gremlins quit messing with the vibrator.

Thanks will try this when it happens next time.
If that happens again, I will report.

Auto spelling stuck on, won't stop!

Spell correction, word completion, predictive text, etc, suddenly started up and I'm unable to switch it off! Under Settings/Keyboard/Input/Touch input/Options/XT9 Settings everything is un-checked. Rebooting does not solve the issue, the problem remains, even though the settings remain unchecked. Can anyone shed any light as to what might be going on, please? I loathe predictive anything and am desparate to switch it off ... permanently!

i was gonna say check out the settings but uve already done that. Hmm..seems stuck. Try downloading Advanced Config. 3.3 cab. I believe it lets u cut it off there also. If its not in there, try BsB tweaks or HD tweaks or Diamond Tweaks. Actually, im almost sure its in Diamond tweaks. Just dont go messing around with the audio settings or u will blow out all audio until the setting is restored back to default. Just warning ya, i know it can tempting to cut the volume booster up. lol Let me know if any of those had worked for u. I had that problem and was able to cut it off in the keyboard settings alone. which u state doesnt wrk for u, so try out one or several of those cabs to see if the option for what u looking for is there. Its in one of those cabs. Hopefully, dat will fix ur prob.
Many thanks. I already use AdvanceConfig and have had another look through that. In fact since posting this morning the auto stuff stopped all by itself, came back on again all by itself during the afternoon; I rebooted, that killed it again and at the moment it's still off. So it really does seem to be coming and going entirely of its own volition. Or ... I wonder, could it be that there is some keyboard shortcut which I am inadvertently triggering? Can the auto stuff be switched on - and indeed off - via keyboard shortcuts?
Occasionally I found that XT9 automatically turns on or off (especially when I use a cooked ROM). Try pushing that button on or off if it happens again.

Er ... which button?!
To turn XT9 off. I am using a custom ROM right now. But, irregardless of what ROM I use, whenever XT9 was on (always accidentally), the autocomplete was always on no matter what else I did. On my ROM it is on the left, just above the shift key.
If it is not there, go to settings -> Input and check your options so that XT9 is off.
I hope this works for you.

Ringer volume spontaneously turned down (not the well known volume bug)

I noticed this from the beginning, but didn't pay much attention to it because I thought it was my fault. But it happens again and again and I'm sure I don't do anything to cause this.
The problem: often when I haven't used the phone for a while the ringer volume is mysteriously turned down to a miminum level.
I now lock the ringer volume with an app, so this kinda solved the problem for me. Nevertheless I'm wondering if there are others who have this weird volume behavior.
BTW this is not the "classical" volume bug that was solved a few days ago with the OTA patch.
Can't say I ever have any problem like that. Might be an app on your phone that is turning the volume down? I agree it's definitely not the button bug since you can't change the volume with those buttons without unlocking the screen.

This might be an app. For example the 1Password reader app changes your volume based on some setting in the app.
yep. since day 1. no idea what causes and it's definitely no app causing it as i returned to factory settings to test it out and i still had the same issue
i honestly think it's the placement of the volume buttons but really difficult to be certain, as sometimes i will find the phone on vibrate and i am 100% i haven't touched the volume button.
At least now i am know i am not going crazy as this has been my one and only gripe about the phone
what app are you using to keep the volume locked?
Does you phone have the update? If not, then I'd assume it is the bug.
Why would I assume that. Cause the bug picks up noise on the volume keys, which control volume of everything, ringers, media, notifications, ect. The buttons control different things depending on what screen you might happen to be on. So it's possible that the bug could change your ringer volume as well.

Ahhh thx, this was driving me bananas .. at least I now know that it can be mysteriously reproduced on other devices. I've tried to monitor my own actions but I'm also pretty sure I don't accidentally touch the volume keys. I didn't do extensive research because I just thought it wasn't worthwhile. But because I missed some calls lately because of this it is now pretty high on my annoyance list.
The app I'm using is Volume + (free version will do). Until now it seems to work well. It runs a background service and intercepts volume key presses events and pushes the volume back to a saved level. (Could have used that for the other volume bug)

I've installed the latest update (build ITL41F). Maybe the fix doesn't cover all scenarios yet?
Sounds like interference to me. The fix added a 2ms de-bounce time which is ALOT. What frequency is your network on? You should try fixing it to 3g just to check if that fixes it. If it does its most likely interference.
I wonder if you have a bad ground connection in it somewhere (hardware fault).
If you can tell me the frequency your network uses (or your operator and i'll look it up) I can calculate the GSM burst time and see how it fits in 2ms. Ironically the burst arrives when you're about to receive a call so its turning the ringer down just before it rings lol

My operator uses 900 MHz (for 2G) /1800 MHz (3g) . Operator is T-Mobile Netherlands
Btw I just accidentaly catched the bug doing it's nasty thing on 3g.
Anyone know where to report this?
Can't replicate this myself, however before submitting this as a bug maybe worth checking out the logcat trace around the time the volume is changing.
With the "SAV" issue, I seem to recall someone saw overrun errors in the log around the time of interference.
You may find something similar in the log or likewise there maybe some entries in there detailing a rogue process doing something a bit wacky which causes your issues.

SAV issue, overruns start on line 4
I'm also having this issue using: ICL35F.I9250XWKL2.
I can't find a way to reproduce it. If/when I find more info, I'll try to keep up to date.
From preliminary tests I've conducted, I now find Talk 4.0.2-235179 to be the culprit.
I have notification on and its tone is Silent. If I'm chatting with someone and that someone replies, the volume changes to 0???
I've written an app that polls the volume and notifies when it changes. Later today I might post the code.
Talk in Silent
Finally have a found the real reason. When Talk is set to:
Notification: System Bar;
Sound: Silent.
When a message comes and the chat is in foreground, the volume is changed to level 3.
The program I've made, once started, poles the sound level each 5 seconds and when it's different a notification appears.
To this post I've attached the .apk, its source and a silent ringtone to overcome this bug.

Thanks for your detective work. This is exactly what was causing my volume to seemingly change at random. It was especially annoying because some days I use gtalk quite a bit and other days not at all.
I linked to your post and this thread on the relevant Google Code Android bug report that someone had created back in December for the same issue. It can be found here if anyone cares to star the issue in hopes of giving this bug more exposure: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22579
I can confirm the problem. It only happens with Talk in the foreground running and with the silent notification on.
Thank you very much, I got the new One X and was wondering if it was a software bug in HTC software....guess not

Physical Keyboard stops working

Quite frequently, my glide's physical keyboard stops working. A reboot fixes it but is kind of annoying to do this once a day
This is a new phone (less than a week old) and I am trying to find out if this is a known issue and if there is a fix for it. If my phone is defective, I might be able to still get a replacement from newegg.
I notice that there was another thread in XDA on the same topic but it quickly moved on to discuss some other issue with no clear advice.
Thanks and appreciate your help,

Stops working all together or opens up different applications when you press a key? I had the latter. If it is the apps opening up double check you do not have any shift type button stuck as that would make it act funny and appear to not be working properly.
Tap on "ALT", "SHIFT", "SEARCH" see if that fixes it.

If it is launching Different apps then it is the Quick launch that is the cause. You can see what Shortcut is associated with which app go here:Settings -> Applications -> Quick Launch
Most Launch with Search + any key. Perhaps your search button is stuck.

Mine has that problem as well usually requires a reboot as well but can't ever get it to just do it on command. U on a custom rom? Or stock?
If the random apps are opening, open the landscape keyboard and press the search button. If you accidentally press it and then you press a corresponding letter to open a certain app, it'll so that. And when you hit back, the phone thinks that you pressed the wrong letter key and has that quick open on. Just press search again. That's all lol

I am on stock. It's just annoying when it happens at least once in 2 days.
I am thinking of rooting it and installing a custom rom to see if that takes care of it. Will keep you all posted.
I might turn on the debugging level in the logs as well to see if I can find out what's going on. Given that this happens only every two days or so, not sure if that will help much but let me see.

I am on Rogers stock ROM. At this point, it certainly looks like something to do with the software (will be hard to find several of us having the same hardware problem).

+1.
My keyboard stops working too, but this doesn't happen very often. I experience this about once in 3-4 weeks for now.
I have had this problem a few times as well (on stock AT&T).. QWERTY doesn't respond at all, reboot fixes it! Got me worried the first couple of times though
I continue to run in to this once in a while. I have tried pressing all kinds of keys (search, alt etc) with no success. At times, I see some of the keys working but not others.
Anyway, this looks like software / driver issue. Looks like reboot is the only cure so far.

[Q] Annoying BUGS

Sprint Version, OTA update on launch day.
Bug 1: Continually goes into "Car Mode". I'm not sure if it is somehow related to the holster I'm using or what, but I pull my phone out at least 20-30 times a day and it's in car mode. It becomes super annoying when you answer a call and it immediately goes to speaker phone. I tried "force stopping" this app, but that didn't work. Next step is to freeze it, but come on...I shouldn't have to do that. Weirdest bug I've ever seen. Anyone have insight about some auto-Car mode or pushing certain buttons turns it on automatically??? Weird.
Bug 2: When typing in the texting app (only place I've observed it). I'll get a few words in, then randomly, the cursor goes back to the beginning. It's been happening pretty consistently and I even noticed it on the demo model at the Sprint store (thought I had hit an arrow or something). This happens ~3-5 times per day and annoys the hell out of me.
Other than these, this phone is a BEAST. Super fast and beautiful screen. I'm missing CM10 and will definitely root/flash when the bootloader is cracked.
Anyone else notice bugs similar to these?

For the curser thing. Try Swiftkey. You'll absolutely love it, plus it fixes the keyboard curser issue
Thanks for the replies...
Bug 1: This is due to the magnet in the flap of my holster. I'm not a holster guy at all, but at work it's a must since I wear scrubs all day. I can reproduce the Car Mode by placing the phone close to the flap magnet. Makes me think they're going to have Car Mount accessories that will have a magnet and automatically turn Car Mode on when mounted. Also makes me think I need a different holster because my phone thinks it's in the care and I can't shut the damn Car Mode off (yet). Sigh.
Bug 2: It's not the keyboard. I know and like swiftkey, but like the stock android keyboard even more. I installed the AOSP 4.2 Keyboard 10 minutes after getting the phone. The bug lies in the Messaging app. I'm now running GO SMS without any issues....buuuuuttttt....I shouldn't need to do that to sidestep an annoyance in such a critical and basic app. Who the hell is testing these things and lets them out the door with even the slightest flaw in either the phone or SMS apps???
I'm missing my AOSP more and more. I love the phone and the hardware is quite impressive, but if this device doesn't get cracked and CM10 or 10.1 soon, I'll be swapping it out.
the only bug I've seen on this phone so far is that sometimes spell check does not work in the messaging app and then sometimes it does. (Spell check as in when it underlines an incorrectly spelled word in red)
I have noticed the bug #2 as well within the messaging app. Pretty annoying.

Dont have the keyboarding issue.
But i do occasionally have the Car Mode. bug I need this 4.1.1 update asap
Any fixes for Bug 2? My boyfriend & I got the same phone at the same time, and mine does this, his doesn't. I also think it has something to do with the tilt sensor. I'd appreciate any input if someone knows the cause. Thanks!
For 2, I use another messaging app and swift key flow and it doesn't do it anymore. Go SMS or the jelly bean app

I too believe it's the keyboard and the placement of it's keys. Using 4.2 keyboard and no problems. Just a taste of some AOSP to come. Hopefully (crossing fingers)

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Sleep of Death

Problem: Cannot turn on the screen by pressing the power button sometimes. The screen is black or very dim, I cannot tell. One can see nothing on the screen, and it doesn’t accept any touch input, either. The phone still rings if there’s an incoming call. If this happens, the following several presses (about 10 - 20) on the power button will probably lead to a reboot. The “screen auto-rotate” and the proximity sensor may fail after the reboot, but will recover after a manual reboot.
Frequency: Fewer with higher Rom version. About once per day for 4.3.
Other description:
 The problem frequently happens when I just take the phone outside my house/office, and seldom happens when the phone just stays somewhere.
 The problem seems to be irrelevant to the remaining battery capacity or the uptime, but it never happens when charging.
 The problem seems to be irrelevant to the Apps installed.
 The problem seldom happens in the first 3-4 days after flashing a Rom, but happens more and more frequently as time goes by. My guess is some cache is stuffed by some trash, which causes the problem. The phone may be fine as long as the trash can be cleaned up on a regular basis.
 I manually reboot my phone at most every two days.
Solutions tried, but don’t work
 Flashing official ROMs 4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.2 and 4.3 following the procedure “adb reboot bootloader; fastboot oem unlock; flash-all; fastboot oem lock”, without google wallet, not rooted.
 Turning off the auto-brightness control, as suggested by some post on the Internet.
Does it look like it goes to standby normally or does the screen show gibberish and then turns off?

Thank you very much.
I think it's standing-by normally even through the screen is black (or very dim, I cannot tell), since it rings if there's an incoming call. I can see nothing from the screen, and I don't think the screen accepts any touch input, either.
Does this answer your question? Thank you.

I've also had this blank screen with calls still ring issue for as long as I can remember, nearly 2.5 yrs.
I've always suspected it's my ROM and so I'd try out another ROM'S, BUT no other ROM works like how I'd like, so I always come back to my ROM.
It doesn't happen every single day, but it does happen very often.
I've tried using apps that auto reboot daily, but eventually this blank screen issue will return.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find any solution, so I just put up with it, it's like the 1 only flaw with my ROM.

Not to be at all rude, but I'm really glad op has had this issue from testing other versions of Android, cause then at least I know I don't need to give up my great tablet mode ROM.
LOL
I think I've finally found a work around for this screen of death.
Using Exposed, download/install this module/extension:
Disable Proximity
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox
It does exactly what it's name is and ever since then I've not once had to remove my GN battery to work again because the screen went completely dead.
NVM
Screen still goes dead.
Anyone find an actual fix to this?
isajoo,
I had pretty much the same problems with my Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod 11 M12.
It got better by doing the following :
Blowing dry air in the earpiece… though the proximity sensor is clearly beside it. Can't do any harm though, I guess.
Settings/Applications/All/menu/Reset applications preferences (or whatever that's called in english) : that seemed to do a lot of good to my phone ! However, it's a very unsatisfactory answer on a technical point of view, as I still don't know WHAT was precisely needed. It's a "magic wand" solution for which I can't give an explanation.
Not specifically related, but greatly helped my phone in the responsiveness area : Trimmer (fstrim) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fifthelement.trimmer), an updated version of LagFix that you may already know
Hope that helped !
(I wanted to try http://www.androidlegend.com/how-to-perform-proximity-sensor-calibration-on-any-samsung-phone/ as well, but apparently, /sys/class/sensors/proximity_sensor/prox_cal does not exist on my phone…)
