Hey guys, so I took the plunge and updated from CM10 to CM10.1 today (20121218 build) and I am here to report that Android 4.2 is pretty slick. For those that are going to update, here are a couple of things you might also see:
1. My wireless connectivity was a little sketchy after the update. I had to go into the list of APNs and restore the defaults...after that, everything was fine.
2. On startup, the clock app crashes. In order to stop that (and set new alarms) I had to clear data from the app.
3. If you want to enable developer options, it's hidden now and has to be enabled from the about phone menu.
4. The new features are pretty cool, IMO.
Now my million-dollar question:
Android 4.2 is supposed to bring multi-user support, but I can't find it or figure out how to enable it. From the quick settings panel there is a tile called user switcher, but when you select it it brings up a screen that only allows me to select the current (default) user. There's not much written about it yet...are there any knowledgable peeps out there that can help a brother out and drop some knowledge?
Thanks for reading!
Just guessing. That's all. I'm thinking its a Work in progress.
I'm almost certain that the multi-user support is for tablets only, as for cm 10.1 im dying to try it but I think I'm going to wait till most of the bugs are worked out of it before I take the plunge.
http://10.1.cmxlog.com/?device=d2att here's CM10.1's changelog. It appears multi-user is to come with the next nightly 12/19. Btw questions belong in the Q&A section.
Nice! Thanks. At least I don't have to wait long. I'm stoked to try this out.

I don't have any options in about phone for developer. Can you be more specific sir?

IIRC: Multiuser is a tablet only-feature in stock Android, highly likely due to a Nokia patent regarding a multiuser function for phones.
Though that might not stop mods from appearing, that enable it on phones, but I don't know if CM will support it on phones in an official release...

I think you're misreading the changelog. This change is to allow the su binary to support multiple users, not to add multi-user support to the ROM in general.

Oo My mistake. I haven't been on nightlies lately so I couldn't confirm if it was actually there or not.
I know this was doable via kernel on the GSM models - but if I remember right, those weren't for CDMA models. Has anybody tried or seen anything on the VZW model? It would be great to be able to make use of them, especially the HTC button... like a double tap for wake / lock.

Right now it isnt possible until source code for the Kernel is released and custom kernels come out . It is an easy remap but source is needed .

Thanks - is that something we should see eventually? Or is there a good chance Verizon will stop that? I don't know what kind of say the carrier would have in something like that... I would *think* it would be an HTC thing only - but Verizon never ceases to get their fingers in every part of the process!

We will see it , Once source comes out there will be tons of custom kernels out there , with many other mods like sweep to wake , sweep to sleep , cap buttons notifications , and remaps .
Alright, I must say, I'm not a fan of hardware navigations keys. That is a reason as shallow as it can be to some but not for me, I like it on-screen.
So my question is, is there an existing ROMs around that supports that feature even on a phone with hardware navigation keys?
If yes, are they planning to support 7a? Thanks all in advance.
PS: doesn't want to start with the hardware versus on-screen argument(or get a phone with on-screen instead), just want to know if there are ROMs that do that

good to know:good:
although, personally, I prefer it be built-in into the ROM coz sometimes xposed(or maybe the module) gets in the way of the ROMs' stability, etc. as far as I've seen on other threads
but if that's the last resort, I may still consider that xposed thingy
If I can set the hw buttons behavior I don't see the point in using SW buttons.. The space is used, so why to reduce dimensions of the useful screen?

as i've mention, it's my preference and don't want to start an argument with on-screen versus hardware nav keys
to each his own and i understand that
and yes, it's also good if the hardware can be set as back-HOME-recent setup, I can tolerate that(again personally my opinion only)
I just saw One+'s feature regarding switching to on-screen or capacitive keys. That's quite neat being a built-in feature. Oppo 7 hope will have this built into their ROM as well.
Tapatalked from my Nypon
I prefer on screen buttons myself so I can set them up my way (four across in my chosen order) but I cant say I would be willing to give up screen area for them as you would be doing here. Regardless xposed will usually play well with others if you keep it to a minimum, its when you pile on the changes that things usually go wrong. Might be worth a try if nothing else comes up.
i already found a way to disable capacitive buttons and enable onscreen/soft-keys buttons. Its pretty hacky though and involves root and commenting a few things in Generic.kl in system/usr/keylayout. Also adding a line to build.prop

Great, the 7a will be available here at my place next week. So having this mod ready is really good. Just hope there's no delay on the availability here.
While I've generally been "not a fan" of hacks like this, since CM is officially doing it on the OnePlus - I'm going to look into this eventually for Omni. (I think maxwen has already implemented 75%+ of it on the N1...)
With Omni though, my top priority after basic bringup is figuring out a way to have unified storage in an optional way.
ayysir - don't try to use the omni f7a kernel in its current state BTW. I screwed up merging something somewhere in the display code and it IOMMU faults where stock usually does the contsplash handoff.
I love you for this entropy.

Unified storage? Oh yes. That would rock. I have no idea why OPPO chose to go with the ancient implementation of the 3GB partition for apps.
I prefer hardware keys myself, but giving people the choice would be cool.
I can't wait until I get my 7a.

Omni kernel is now usable - at the very least, the kernel/device tree produces a usable TWRP.
It also builds successfully when using blobs from teamgruntled - but I have yet to actually try flashing it. (plan is to whip up an eng build tomorrow, I'm too busy tonight to make any progress.)

teamgruntled for blobs temporarily since I might forcepush-rebase the blobs once or twice, kernel/device tree are in omni github.
Current state of the device tree is almost guaranteed to result in massive bogosity if flashed. As in if I'm afraid to flash it to my device you should be too!

There are definitely apps on the Play Store that can superimpose softkeys on the screen at the bottom, if you really don't like the capacitive ones.

Funny enough I installed a softkeys app for rooted devices off the play store and it put my phone in a bootloop...looks like I'm going to have to flash the factory firmware.

I believe it edited the build prop so it was navigation buttons, not superimposed.
The reason I was trying to get the navigation buttons back by the way was because the capacitive stopped working.

It might be bootlooping because if you try to enable a feature (in the build prop) that isn't on the device (the actual system files), it can't boot up correctly.

That's most likely the case, I was just getting frustrated and installed the app without thinking, oh well.
I just want the navigation bar because, at least from my experience, most apps that superimpose the buttons are never the same. They won't appear at boot, interfere with the keyboard, and require a gesture to make them appear.
Doesnt gravity box have an option? Never tried it though.. just saying it might work.
i saw someone doing this but cant remeber where. Look in the develompent forum or in Google+ asus zenui beta development
I've been using this app for the last two years. I can highly recommend it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198
Install LP xposed, and LP gravity box, go to "navigation bar tweaks" and tick "master switch" "enable navigation bar" and soft reboot done =]
You have to edit the correct build.prop in /system/ that corresponds to your Zenfone 2 model.
If you have the same model as me (WW/64GB/4GB RAM/2.3GHz), you need to edit build.ze551.dual.2p3GHz.prop
If you look through my posting history, you'll see me offer a link to a guide on doing it, link also includes info on disabling the capacitive buttons. On mobile so can't look through myself. Cheers.
You could use one hand mode until you find a working one.

Strange it worked for me perfectly.
I have made a mod for the oneplus one. And since i think these devices have much in common I'm curious if the mod works on the find7 as well.
Is there anyone who wants to try it?

Anyone tried it?
@Thomson2412:
First of all - if anybody with Find 7 is to flash this, he will probably have a custom ROM and it does not have to be CM.
Your zip is obviously for CM ROM. I am using OmniROM with Android 7.1 at the moment.
I flashed it and found out it is not working at all. Altought, it does add the options to settings panel.
Setting any option does not do anything and checking Haptic feedback for any action causes crash.
---
When I flashed the Omni version you have in your original thread (after I removed the OnePlus related checks) the settings options were not there at all - it is in Settings - Device Features.
1. Setting app for Camera gesture works.
2. Clicking on setting vibrator strength causes crash.
And I might be wrong, but it seems that flashing that zip messed up my "menu button one-click".
I do not get any menu popups anymore. Even when I put the original version back..

I can't add gestures to a rom that doesn't have them by default because that would require a kernel change and I'm not capable (yet) to implement "new" gestures. Currently I don't have the time nor interest in learning how to change a kernel. So if your device doesn't have gestures I'm afraid I cant be of any help. I only alter what gestures do not add them or create custom ones.
I hope this answers your question, if not feel free to ask some more

If you are talking those off screen gesture features which comes in OPPO phones mostly (like draw C to open camera or draw M to open music app ) then these kind of features "by default" we dont have in any stock or custom rom But
if Double to tap wake screen (D2W) feature is enough to work your mod on my device then yes we do have this thing in all ROMs by default(kernel enabled )....,,
