Has anyone successfully connected at 802.11ac and what kind of speeds are you getting? For some reason, I can't get past 54Mbps and it seems to be stuck on 802.11n at 5Ghz.
It has 802.11n with one or two streams(150 or 300mbit). I think I have seen a 200mbit connection once or twice, but quite often its 150mbit,which is twice of what my other two androids can achieve. Actual transfer rates are much lower, up to 2mbyte/s in my LAN, twice my ADSL rate.
Supposedly, it also supports 802.11ac. I bought a Netgear 6300 which supports 802.11ac and the Note 10.1 2014 doesn't connect at those speeds.
http://www.samsung.com/sa_en/consumer/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/galaxy-note/SM-P6050ZWAKSA
i manage about 5MB/s on my 300Mb wifi N on 5GHz (150Mb connection)
havent tried AC, but it should obviously get faster than that (this is wifi file transfer from a PC or NAS, not speedtests)
i'd have to say it must be a router config setings problem, unless its working at full speed on other devices.

I noticed when I was at a friend's place recently that the Vibrant supports N wifi networks as well as G. However, I did not have the opportunity to do any extended testing.
I have noticed that wifi transfers over the network using various file sharing tools tend to be slow, and buffering with Allshare can be slow at times. What I'm wondering is, has anybody compared actual speed of Wifi on the Vibrant or Galaxy when using an N network versus G? Is the speed of the phone itself more the limiting factor, or would I get much better speeds using an N network?
Reason is, I'm currently using a Buffalo WHR-54GS router. It is a bit old, but using DD-WRT firmware, it has been rock solid. It does not, however, support N networking. I'm wondering if I would see any improvement in speeds transferring files and buffering DLNA connections by upgrading to a Buffalo WHR-HP-GN which supports N networking.
The only reason I'd upgrade would be for the N based Wifi - so if there's no benefit on my phone, then I wouldn't need to upgrade. Any input?
I have not had a chance to do any benchmarking but I have done allshare over both a G and N network and it did seem noticibly faster over the N network. Especially when paired with a gigabit hard wire to whaterver your streaming to/from.
Actually I think the gigabit helped as much as the wireless N, of course those routers tend to be more expensive...
I got a linksys wrt160n with ddwrt. the n doesnt work great with ddwrt but the router is great. i also have another n wireless but i dont notice much diference at all. maybe internal network stuff but not internet stuff.
Can't say I've done side-by-side comparisons, but it does seem to get some boost from the N speeds. For a new router, I'd suggest the ASUS RT-N16. Just about the most powerful consumer router out there (RAM & CPU) and it runs Tomato (plus dd-wrt)
N is better for streaming.
The N network allows a faster streaming and file transfer over the wifi. Now this will not improve your internet speed. The limit on the router might be higher, the modem will still have its limits. If you use allshare alot, I'll recommend you get a N router, otherwise no reason to purchase something you won't use. I have a Netgear dualband router (WNDR 3300). It supports both N and G networks but I rarely use the N since most of my devices do not support N. The ones I have that do like the Vibrant supports at 2.4ghz frequency. The router can be switched to broadcast the N at 2.4ghz, but like I said, If you're not streaming, there's really no need for it. To put this in numbers, the G networks can only transfer data at the maximum of 50mbps while the N can transfer files at Maximum of ~400mbps (if not higher). If your internet service does not offer more than 50mbps speed, then your internet will remain the same whether on G or N. You have been schooled
Helpful, informative post. Up until the last sentence.
Unless you only set your router to n you wont get the full advantage of using n you will only get compatibility. Having g on slows down you n network to a like speed. At least that what happens on my router, I have a dlink, when I did a little Googling it confirmed it.

May be specific to your Dlink. My Asus does G & N, and the N devices ran significantly faster than the G laptop that I still had connected until recently. The G laptop never slowed anything else down.

If you are going to try to school people, please do it right and quit misleading people.
The Vibrant is not MIMO capable, so we only get a theoretical 150Mbps on 802.11N. Due to security and WiFi error correction, realistic throughput is ~70Mb/s. That is 8.75MB/s, slightly faster than an AData 16G class 6 card, but significantly slower than a SanDisk 8G Class 6 card.
On 802.11G, again due to WiFi error correction and security, a realistic throughput number is around 20Mb/s. That is 2.5MB/s, barely faster than a crappy Class 2 SD card.
Keep in mind that these are all "optimal" numbers. The amount of time that your vibrant will ever see these (more realistic) maximum numbers are probably less than 10% of the time.

Try a file transfer on N with the compatibility mode off (N Only) versus in B/G/N mode. You should see a speed increase on N only. However, with everything RF, you might have interfering neighbors that will influence testing.
Some of the wireless routers will slow down. it has to do with the router only having one band. In a dual simultaneous router, one band can be slowed to G speeds, such as my PS3 or my dad's 2nd gen iPod touch. My vibrant, however is automatically positioned on a completely seperate stream from the G devices.
i have a Cisco E3000
and i do see a small difference
about a minute difference in downloading a 600mb file
Forgetting all external speeds, what is the best link speed you've seen? I can't seem to get over 65Mbps on the GNex. I've got a 300Mbps 5gHz router that I am connected to and it will never connect at over 65Mbps.
Has anyone gotten higher? Yes, I know that is faster than most internet speeds but I'm interested in certain streaming at home and I'd like to get the best connection possible.
I'm connected at 65mbit too, it is N speed since regular wireless is 54mbit though. I haven't seen any specs other then it supports N networks.

And you need more than 65mbps why?
I bet the hardware is limited around that speed of 65Mbps...mobile cpu/ram is bottleneck.
Yup 65mbps is the max connection you will get - same as the iPad 2
Cant be bothered digging up details on why, because it wont change anything
Same here but with a net connection of 20Mbps then I don't think I'd often benefit from faster. Usually do file tranfers over wires as well
I can only seem to connect at 150Mbps. Is this phone wireless N 150Mbps or 300Mbps or 450Mbps?
Is your router capable of 300Mbps or 450Mbps?

According to Geekaphone.com it's Wireless N 150Mbps. Hope this helps
No worries about that, to have an isp providing internet at that speed would put you on the to 1% list.

I only ever remember seeing a 150Mbps linkspeed on TouchWiz, even though my Dlink WNDR3700 (w/dd-wrt) router supports faster, and I've only seen up to 65-72Mbps on CM10 fwiw.
I tend to use the 802.11G more than N, though, because it has much better range, and almost always gets a 54Mbps linkspeed, which is still plenty of bandwidth (~6MB/s) for just about everything these days. I'll sometimes switch back to N if G gets congested or in the rare case when I need slightly more bandwidth (like maxing out the 10MB/s write speed of my external class10 SDcard when not using USB).

I have 30mbps down and 2mbps internet package
im getting between 16mbps and 20mbps down and 2mbps to 3mbps up.
my laptop with built-in wireless card gets pretty much the same but when i use my usb wifi adapter (linksys in 2.4ghz mode) it gets 30mbps down and close to the same upload.
my router is a belkin n300 share with stock belkin firmware
so i know the router can do 30mbps over wifi as my linksys usb wifi adapter proves that.
just wondering why my laptop AND GS3 only get about 20mbps consistantly over wifi....
anyone do a test on their S3 over "WIFI" and see what they get or tell me what is wrong with my laptop and s3?
the router can not do 5ghz it is only capeable of 2.4ghz and b/g/n with 20mhz/40mhz bandwith
when i use that linksys usb wifi adapter its really working good but im surprised the GS3 is not, the laptop i could even understand getting the 20mbps (wireless-n 1030 built-in)
it dont seem like any setting i make really changes the speed for the laptop or the phone
suggestions would be great

im picking the same exact server i get 30mpbs with my linksys usb adapter
just wanted to note:
when using iPerf (only checking b/w over the lan) i get about 10mbps from s3 to laptop wireless n 1030 buitlin
when hooking laptop straight to router with lan cord and run iperf i get the same 20mbps on the s3
there is something wrong with the wifi in the S3 i believe
could be

The USB WiFi adapter are far more advanced an faster than that of a phone or laptop its not a modem issue or device issue its just simply the WiFi adapters inside our devices i have a similar issue where i have a 35mbs plan and i only got around 15-20mbs i upgraded my router and now i nearly achieve my 35mbs mark but no matter what router you get if you use Ethernet or a USB WiFi card the internet will be faster because generally computers interpret internet faster over a hard connection vs a wireless connection where u still loose around 5-10mbs the only possible solution is maybe invest in a different router with the option to direct more bandwidth via WiFi or change your WiFi broadcast frequency to only one type or frequency weather it be 801.11n or 802.11g or 802.11b choose ONE that is fastest not all 3 or which ever you have because that generally slows your internet by great amounts as well

why exactly do the phone (gs3 in this case) and the laptop (built-in intel wireless-n 1030) get the same speeds?
with wireless-n (even at 2,4) single antenna it should get close to 150mbps (theorectical)
wireless G = 54mbps in actuality it is around 20mbps which is what im getting and yep i checked both the laptop and the gs3 show as wireless n connections
you made an interesting point about putting the router in a single mode like "N" and i have tried that but both the laptop and the phone will not connect unless i put the router in b/g/n mode
the linksys usb adapter will connect ok with the router in wireless "N" mode
i am running latest belkin firmware for my f7d3302 router
Because its a wireless signal most devices interpret signals much better through Ethernet or USB just because it cant capture the signal fast enough and long enough to keep it stable enough to stay at the same speed the router is broadcasting at sure enough the router is broadcasting at a stable speed but the device wont capture it fast enough the only solution i found is what i mentioned to either get a router which makes a more stronger secure signal or broadcast at only one frequency and the s3 should capture N maybe try changing from 2.4 to 5.0 and try N again otherwise there might be a hardware issue because i use my router at 2.4 with 801.11n on channel 10 and my internet is almost as fast as Ethernet and far longer range

was able to put router in wireless n mode only (2.4ghz) by enabling "802.11e/WMM QoS"
now laptop with built-in nic and s3 can both connect at wireless n only
the laptop speed did jump up to what the hard wire ethernet cable AND linksys usb wifi are getting
they are all getting 28mbps (within a 1mbps deviation)
the phone is still stuck at 18-22mbps.
daniel4653
so the phone can actually get over 22mbps in "WIFI" mode?
are you on 5ghz N or 2.4ghz N?
would like to add
iperf from the phone to the laptop (builtin nic) is now getting 25mbps in multiple runs
this is on the local lan only in wireless N mode (2.4ghz) with 20/40 enabled in router
so this is a big improvement over the 7-10mbps i was getting earlier but the wifi connected to net is still 20mbps

With phones there is a bigger difference because they're might be many factors like the modem the type of WiFi chip the size of the chip range and capability also what ROM your running just too much that might vary but on my phone on average i get around 20mbs it seems to me there's a 10mbs variation because at work we have a 100mbs connection and i get around 85mbs i believe the s3 maxes out at 100 but to reach that you have to have some fast internet and either a gaming router or a business router

on wireless n (2.4ghz) it should connect the "link speed" at 150mbps
when its at 150mbps this indicates "Channel Bonding" is working
im getting 72mbps and i had been reading other cellphone that had similar problems @ 75mbps
to my understanding the phones were not channel bonding correctly.
i have had 3-4 people saying all kinds of stuff without really saying anything scientific.
i could have done that too but instead i knew there was a real problem
i kept digging and am sharing my experience as i find out what is really going on.
to check your "link speed" you can long press on your wifi connection and then go advance and scroll down and it should show it.
you can also get wifi analyzer and change the view and then select your connection
from what it looks like this galaxy s3 and my belkin n300 share router are not getting along.
i need another router to see if that is the problem or if it is really my phone and the software its running.
if other people with their devices would post your findings here it would be great
thanks

if you try to put your router at 2.4ghz (wireless n with 20/40) and connect your phone at "link speed 150mbps" you might still get that same 40/50
if your "link speed = 72mbps" like mine you will probably only get 20mbps down and prob same thing up
im pretty curious as it does seem like your phone and internet is working correctly

There's several variables... are you referring to MegaBITS or MegaBYTES? I believe the fire tv box only has 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports. You will probably need to use a USB Gigabit ethernet adapter. This would increase your throughput, but again, you're limited by usb 2.0 speed, but should get you closer to your bandwidth limits.

I have 3 Firesticks two with LAN connection & one WIFI with this issue. My internet is 150 MBPS by Comcast. I would settle for only getting close to 100 MBPS but I am lucky if I can get 20 MBPS when I run speed test on the Firestick. I can get over 100 MBPS on a laptop right next to the WIFI Firestick. I can't see all 3 being defective but I can't run a VPN because it slows the connection speed to the point where I get all kinds of buffering. This is really starting to irritate me.
I have tge same problem,. I have 70mbps internet speed but i only get 9mbps on firestick,. I cant stream anything,.
Are these Fire 'Sticks'? Only Fire 'anything' that has a Ethernet port are the FireTv "boxes". (....that I know of, but saw Sr Member mention 'stick' with connections above?)
I do know that if you're on wifi, you'd have to be on a 5.8 GHz connection for the faster speeds, while the normal 2.4 GHz would give the speeds described above.
And, agree, if you are using the USB/LAN connection, that too, would be a 'bottle-neck'
