[Q] Disable touch to install ZVD update icon in notifcation bar - Sprint LG G2

Hello,
I have had the ZVD update (not installed yet) notificaton on my phone for about a week now and I have no plans on updating my phone to ZVD at this time so I would like to know how to remove / disable the "System Update Downloaded Touch to install" notification from the notification bar so I do not accidentally touch it and install it by mistake.
While I am at it, I would like to disable all future updates at the same time so it would be nice to know which app controls the downloading of these updates and freeze it so I don't have to be bothered with these notifications in the future as well.
TIA,
MTCell

Hello, what I did was drop down the notification panel, and touch and hold the update notification, it took me to Google Services Framework, I unchecked "show notifications", and it removed the update from the notifications,[emoji4][emoji4] Try that.[emoji4][emoji106]

For me it takes me to Google Play Services. Is this the same thing as the Google Services Framework ?
Also, is there not an app that I can freeze that will stop the updates from downloading in the first place. I am happy with ZVC and I have no intentions of taking future updates unless they fix some large security hole in the system so if I can just disable / freeze an app to stop the updates from downloading in the first place I would prefer that.

Oh, I'm sorry, my mistake, not exactly the same, (correct me anyone who reads this thread) I think the Google Play Services is where you receive updates from the Google Playstore, where as the Google Services Framework, you receive updates for the Android Operating System.[emoji4] you can uncheck "show notifications" in Google Play Services.[emoji4], sorry about that.

Ok, now I am more confused. Why would system updates be handled by 2 different apps on the same phone. For yours, it's Google Services Framework and for mine it's Google Play Services?
Also, as you said Google Play Services seems to be apart of the app store so if I disable that, would that not also stop other notifications (that I want to receive) from being shown. Again, I am more confused now than I was when I first asked this question.
Basically, all I really want to do is delete the currently downloaded (but not yet installed) update from my phone and then freeze the app that is responsible for downloading / checking for updates in the first place so I am never bothered by this problem again. Surely this is possible right ?

I have seen threads like these on the fourms before I made this post and they were not for the Sprint LG G2 so I dismissed them as I do not want to mess anything up. Again, I would like to ask about freezing the app responsible for the updates and freeze it. I have also included a small video that shows that the system update take me to Google Play Services and not Google Services Framework like it does on your phone. Why would that happen?

The process responsible for the ota update is the Google Play Services, I apologize for the confusion, it was the Google Play Services, not the Framework Services, but you can't dismiss them, you can however disable the Google Play Services and uncheck the "show notifications" from the update trying to proceed to install itself.[emoji4]

Thanks again for the replies, but as I said if I disable the Google Play Services Notifications I would also lose the ability to get ANY notifications from the Play Store even for apps that I want to be notified about. So you are saying this is the only way to stop the notification and what about freezing future updates from downloading, this not possible either ?
Again, I appreciate the reply, but it seems like I am either stuck with the notification forever if I want to have any notifications from the play store at all or disable it and lose all notifications from the play store for all apps and there is no way to disable to the downloading of future apps on this phone.

Yeah, that's the tradeoff in not receiving updates about products from the Play store when you disable notifications in the Google Play Services, this isn't the only way, there are other ways, but it requires root access of your device, I've read a thread somewhere concerning disabling OTA Updates, I'll find that thread for you as soon as I can.[emoji4]

Open the dialer on your G2, put in this code 3845#*980#, a hidden menu should pop up, scroll WLAN Test, select the OTA Option, next you change the value to off, and you're done[emoji4]

I have root access, I apologize for not mentioning it in the OP and dialing that code on my phone just places a call to #3845 so that's a no go either. I used the code 5689#*980# which did show the hidden menu, but there was no WLAN Test option. I think we have 2 different phones or atleast 2 different carriers. Maybe it's the fact that you have a custom rom on your phone, but alot of the things you refer to are different on the stock rooted version of the Sprint LG G2 running ZVC.

Yes, it's true that I do have a custom ROM on top of the Sprint LG G2 ROM(you saw my signature LOL), I'm still on ZVC because I ignored the ZVD Update notification and installed CyanogenMod 11 M9 Snapshot on my device and it didn't bother me again, now when I go to updates, it doesn't show up anymore.[emoji4][emoji106]

google play: error retrieving info from server [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]

My galaxy S2 was working fine. I used google play a couple of days ago without any problem and today when I tried to update my app systemPanel from google play (or any other app), I got the error (there was no change to my S2. I'm running stock 4.0.4, rooted):
Update for 'systemPanel app/Task Manager' could not be downloaded due to
an error. (error retrieving info from server [RPC:S-5:AEC-0])
what exactly does it mean?
I already tried everything below without success:
- clear data/cache of google play/google framework. This made it worse as when I started google play it said "no connection- retry". I had to restore app+data from titanium backup.
- clear data/cache 'download manager'
- uninstall updates for google play
- I have also deleted then added back my gmail account and it did not help.
I couldn't install any app either. I got the same error when I tried to install any app from Google play store.
I'd appreciate any help you can give.
Thank you.
please? Anybody? I'm desperate as I couldn't do anything. I couldn't access all my paid apps or free apps.
I was able to search google play just fine. I just couldn't download anything.
Please help. Thank you!
Personally, I'd take this as a good time to update to jelly bean. And your problem will surely be gone as well.

Found a google support phone for the Google Play Store and talk to a support person. Google must hire the minimum wage workers to work the phones. She basically just acknowledged that yes, there was a problem. No, we don't have a fix. Sorry. That was it. It was a waste of time even to talk to them.
Thanks for the reply. What do I need to do to update to JB? I think I froze the update process a while ago as I didn't want to update to JB. I have to find out what did I freeze.
Also, if worse comes to worst, what's a good alternate app site I can use that I don't need to rely on google play store as I can't access it anymore?
I'm sure my money is good everywhere, since google doesn't seem to care or need my money
A paid app costs the same everywhere else, I assume.
Most other app store apps lead you back to playstore to install. LOL
To upgrade to jelly bean you just need to choose a rom that sounds like something you'd like, then follow the install instructions to the letter.

2 tips....you'll need to likely flash the newest T-Mobile or Telus radio....they are the only 2 that will work...before you flash rom. And make sure you're cmw or twrp are current.

When you removed your Google account and readded it, did you reboot your phone before readding it? If you don't reboot, nothing will happen. (So try removing the account, restarting, then sign back in once it starts up again.)
As kj said, most alternate app stores just redirect through Google, lol, but there are a few alternatives if it's fubar'd. Appbrain is the first that comes to my mind, I haven't used it in a few years but it didn't redirect, it was its own server. And just to specify, its uvmc6 or tlmc4 that you will need if you want to update.
App brain does redirect now. LOL
There was one I've tried that doesn't, but don't remember the name. Plus it only has a fraction of what's on play store, and a lot that aren't allowed on play store.....in otherwords, possibly harmful.

I like app brain tho....it sorts apps in ways you can't do on play store.
I find sometimes app brain widels down the memory and crashes.
Still a useful app tho. But it takes you to play store to install.

Yes, I did. If I didn't reboot, adding account wouldn't stick (the added account wouldn't show up).
I looked at appbrain and in order to use it, I have to go to google play store to download and install 'appbrain'. Man, how *brilliant* is that?
There is no other way to install appbrain!
It seems that once anybody got this [RPC:S-5:AEC-0] error, there is no fix... and therefore screwed...
and nobody ever knows why it happened (Google itself doesn't even know why).
I haven't gone to the extreme of doing a factory reset yet and I wonder if that will work?
When I go to Google Play on my PC, under settings->device, I saw that my S2 is not there anymore.
I don't know why it was gone and there is no way to add it back except by connecting to
Google play store from the device
Just reflash stock, or a rom....whatever you want and unless its some issue with your Google account, problem will be solved.

Unfortunately neither of those things work. going to settings then accounts and sync and Google just opens up the normal Google now settings.
Also uninstalling Google now has royally screwed up my phone so I would not recommend anyone else do this.

thats why I installed a custom rom as soon as I got the phone out of the box
backup with htc cloud, shouldn't take long to recover everything back to normal
I really don't want to install a custom rom. They are too unstable for me and the stock rom has great battery life and is well designed. Xposed modules can allow me to make any changes necessary without the bugs you get with custom roms.
Bumping this again. I have uninstalled, wiped data of the app, and done everything I can think of. Also updated to the latest one and no success. I have no apps modifying google now or any touch interfaces of any kind. Any idea for a fix?
So what are you actually wanting to change? What Google Now cards are shown? If so, you open Google Now and then click the magic wand you can then add/remove which cards are shown

Imho he means the settings screen where you can access e.g. the Offline Voice Packs...
A couple of us have been trying to figure this out forever. Custom ROM won't help. Something else is breaking it. In my case, I think it was when I installed a clear themed gnow from tbo. The only way I ever got it back was when I accidentally wiped my internal storage. I broke it again with clear gnow. Restoring a nand doesn't help. Clean flash doesn't help. This leads me to believe something is being left in internal SD that's messing with it. Another of us has not installed anything themed and still it's happening to him. Very elusive.
Here's a workaround that was just found. I'm pasting it from the tho thread I just posted it in. Op, maybe add to your op for people who stumble upon this thread with the same problem.
Pasted: Just want to keep you abreast of my discoveries. My problem, and a friends, of settings not working clearly start when I install clear gnow however I have found a couple people who have this problem and did not theme anything. Someone found a work around. This may or may not shed some more light. If you install gnow launcher you can access the settings from there. If you switch back to sense it stays until reboot but then if you need to adjust you can switch back to g launcher to do it. I'm just keeping gnow launcher installed for that purpose.

[App] Multi-Window Commander(All apps enabled)

EDIT:
As I mentioned to TDunham on his thread for OA6 DeOdexed.....
For those of you taking the Lollipop update, there is an app in the playstore that enables all apps for Lollipop. It is also the only one I know of to work with Android L at the moment. Of course, this is unless any Devs here eventually modify the Lollipop UI on their own custom roms.
ROOT IS REQUIRED!!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xpe.app.multiwindow.commander
After download.......grant SU, select apps, save and reboot. It's that simple. The difference is that NOW your MW will be on the right side with no thumb/arrow pull. You will have to double tap the back button to use. I'm not sure if this was a patent issue with Samsung, but it works.
I am just posting this as a pass-on. Moderators, feel free to delete or move this thread at will.
I don't need any thanks. Thank you's all go to the developers of this awesome app.
Its nice but it is a paid app. Devs technically wouldnt be able to implement that. Thanks for the find though. Im purchasing now

Yeah. I guess I typed that wrong. I meant that the devs on XDA have the ability to break down the UI to implement their own mods.
I multi-task with my phone, hence needing multiwindow. This app thankfully gives the solution "now". Great stuff.

What I do see is you quoting an Exynos version of your phones. Am I correct? There MAY be issues on International versions, as we here are on the Sprint(P) variant. I do know that not ALL phones will work with this app.
Are both of you rooted and on stock Touchwiz?
There was also an issue with the latest update as stated by the developer. Perhaps a simple clear of data and cache will solve this issue.

Have you tried contacting the developer?
Can you open the app itself at all?
I fear that your tablet MAY not be compatible, although some comments in the play store section seem to suggest otherwise. The developer states that the app fits all Galaxy series phones, and most galaxy tablets with KitKat or Lollipop. I'm sure there are exceptions.
I've attached my screenshots so you can see what you SHOULD have. If you can not even open the app itself to select the apps that you want, there's a bigger issue. Perhaps even try reinstalling altogether.
One pic is the slide window activated by hard-pressing the back button, now on the right side. The other pic is what the app itself looks like when you open it.

One pic is the slide window activated by hard-pressing the back button, now on the right side. The other pic is what the app itself looks like when you open it.

In read in the reviews section of the Play Store that a Tab S user is having no issues with the app. I have tried reinstalling multiple times. I open the app. The loading message is displayed and the app closes within a second. And that keeps happening every time I open the app.

Yes. I have also seen that some Tab users have had success. Did you get the initial request for root? If you haven't, there is your first problem.

The first time I installed, I did which was followed by the app closing. I reinstalled and I stopped getting the root request dialogue. Root is working as other apps are actively using root and requesting for it.

At this point, I would just contact the developer by clicking the email link in the playstore.

Not compatible with Note4 N910U MM 6.0.1

S6 Edge + supports MultiWindow, why is it that I don't see the app I'm the Play Store app but I can follow the link, then I can see it but with a message - Your device isn't compatible. wtf?! been using it for years and now it's not cpmpitable on the device with MultiWindow support.

Marshmallow is supported by the app. Even if you side load the apk it will just open then immediately close. Xposed with Xtouchwiz module is the only way to go rightnow bro.

Pop up ads on my home screen

Hello, so recently I've been dealing with pop up ads on my phone. I factory reset the phone and they were gone, but now it's having ads again when I don't even have an app open. I've tried virus scanners and nothing detected. Is there a way to figure out what file is causing this?
Thank you!
I had that same issue last week. Are they popping up though chrome or firefox? It was a rogue app on my part but for you it looks like its something else. Since you already factory reset the phone, you might as well download the latest build and "flash-all". After that you should not have any problems as it completely wipes the device.
If you goto your battery settings does it show an app that may be causing ads?

So it pops up randomly not just using chrome. A few minutes ago I was in the middle of a Clash Royale Game and an add popped up. I recently downloaded a QR reader from the play store and I think that's when it started again.
I deleted the app, but it's been still going on. That's why I went to use the anti virus/malware apps, but they found nothing.
Is there anyway to fix or find what is doing it without factory resetting?

No, nothing shows up on my battery setting.
check the root directory for any strange folders that should not belong there and delete those. I had some that were like 5489399fgjjll and crap. Those are a sure sign there is malware on your phone

Aww dang, alright. Thanks.
Is the root directory the android->data folder?

No it would be back one more step but I would look there also
But you are going to need root to view that part

Did you solve this?
having the same issue with my nexus 6p
anyone solved this problem?
UPDATE:
i may have found the culprit, it's the qrcode scanner app, i may need a few hour to verify this
Just did Kaspersky and nothing found. Another $3 wasted ...
@hketola: Kapersky isn't trustworthy IMO. Try Malwarebytes instead.
If you have Adaway installed, go into the settings and check for Adaware, it'll tell you what apps and what kind of ads they push
I just had the same problem and it seemed to be caused by the app store. So I read all your efforts and then took a look in my settings and here's what I did that resolved the issues: settings < apps & notifications < advanced < Special app access < display over other apps < google play services < switch to "not allowed"
Hope this works for you.

I'll let you know as I've been having this issue for the last few days. Thank you!
I fixed a similar issue on a friends phone. When Ad appears, swipe up (assuming pill gesture on Android 9) and you get the recents screens. The current app (app showing ad) icon will be at top of the screen preview. Press and hold on the icon until a context menu appears and select App Info. Now you know which app is popping ads up.
Google Account Ad Personalization (Ad Settings)
The Patriot Act started all this bull****. No Privacy
It's that ****ing google ads that you can opt out of, but they force the others ads on you.
This is an invasion of privacy you pay all this money for your personal phone and they force content on you whether you like it or not.
I'm thinking about downgrading my phone and operating systems?

Trying to get past the 10 post filter aye? That's what it looks like based upon the fact you replied to a post that's been dead for six months plus.
Now I won't engage with your political rant because this isn't political. You own the hardware, but Google owns the software, especially the Google apps. The ads are Google's means of recouping development costs of Android.
Now, if you don't want ads but want to use Google apps, you install and run Blokada. It works on virtually everything, except YouTube. Or you use a version of Android that doesn't include Google apps.
If neither option appeals to you, try and find a dumbphone, because Apple is worse.

Still Don't Have New Android Messages Material Design?

I still don't have the new updated white look for Android Messages. I still have the one with the blue at top. Anything I can do to get the update?

Not sure if it's out yet, I haven't seen anything about that. I know XDA had a write up on how to enable it but if it was killed from memory it went back to the old way
You can obviously do the APK method but then you won't get updates from Play store for your Android messages App

Is that so? APK Mirror say you will?
I don't think anyone has it enabled and downloading the latest from APK isn't going to help:

No you will still get Playstore updates as long as they are a newer version then the one you sideloaded.
This is available now. You can get it from APK mirror
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/messenger-google-inc/messenger-google-inc-3-5-048-release/
The APK method does work and will get updates - it's the same APK you'd get from the play store.
Once installed, force-close the app and you should have the new interface next time you open it.

Force stopping the app and opening it again worked for me
This is awesome! Now just for Gmail. I can't stand the stupid 5 year old kid crayon colors Google's been using... BUT, what the hell happened to the widget??? Mine disappeared, and there is no widget to select now either... This is NOT okay.
The dark mode option is such a tease. System wide dark mode please!

I can assume this is the correct APK for the Pixel 2 XL?
Yeah it's the right one.. Also, if you use messages on the web, it matches!
Soooo, I changed my wallpaper, and now the new look is gone. Seriously. I've force closed, cleared cache, rebooted, nothing will bring it back. What. The. Eff... Maybe it wasn't turned on correctly on the server side with this update? Anyone else have this problem? I really miss it, but I went back one version and have my widget back. Not sure which I want more...
I installed the apk from apkmirror, forced closed and it was there, for 2 days..... It has since reverted back to the old layout with no dark mode option. Anyone else?
UPDATE: Just found my answer on another thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/android-messages-dark-mode-t3830570

Same here as well. The new material design simply disappeared and reverted back to the previous layout
